Something needs to change at Monty's if they want to see a night crowd.  I went on a Wednesday night,.  Lights were bright, 50s tunes were playing on the jukebox, and it had a very uninviting feel to the younger crowd.  Only a couple of people were there other than my group.

Best laid-back drinking in town! Sweet staff, easy atmosphere.

10 TV's showing different sports, 2 pool tables, 3 booths, 4 tables & 13 places at the bar means there is plenty of room for fun.

Karaoke & pool tournaments each week if you're into it.

    The perfect dive bar.

Monty's is the nightlife equivalent of wearing sweatpants out of the house. You want a cold beer, and other than that, you really just don't care.

The Hollywood velvet rope crowd and collegiate party animals seem a world away, replaced by Hollister Avenue's answer to Norm and Cliff. The shitfaced old guys at the bar are friendly as all hell, putting down drink after cheap drink while rocking Journey on the jukebox. You might also be lucky enough to witness the group of young Asian dudes crooning country love ballads to close down karaoke night. Given the prevalence of testicles among the clientele, it retains a surprisingly mellow vibe.

In fact, the only lady is often the bartender, who is not only as nice as could be but sneaky intelligent. One grizzly Monty's veteran was about to take a trip to New York, so she drew him a map of lower Manhattan and planned a walking tour of the tourist sites of note. Throughout the rest of her conversations, she casually tossed in literary references that few on the other side of the bar picked up on. Perhaps more relevantly, she also did a hell of a job of making sure you didn't have an empty in front of you.

Overall, it's not a must-visit destination by any means, but if you need a mood adjustment or a social lubricant and you're in the neighborhood, Monty's will get you closer to where you need to be.

This is a classic, neighborhood bar. If you're lucky, Susie will be behind the bar. If you want to be impressed (and also impress Susie) ask her what she's reading. She is a wonderful intellectual.

In addition to Susie, there are some more delightful surprises at Monty's. If you find yourself there on Thursdays, you'll hear some SERIOUS singers in their karaoke night. One woman comes in and sings Opera. Her voice almost shatters the bottles and the group adores her.

Drinks are a good value here and I suggest that you give Monty's a try.

I didn't go there, but my brother did last week and it was AWESOME.

There is a Nascar lampshade over one of the TWO pool tables and a giant jukebox packed with some pretty great power ballads and guitar music.
