The jazz is great, the atmosphere is a little more upscale than I tend to prefer, but the food is excellent.

This place could be great, buts its not. The atmosphere was nice, though they have a dress code sign that was pretentious and not enforced. The food and drinks were tasty, but overpriced for the very small portions. I understand that's what they're going for, but the prices could reflect the portions.

I went with a group of 5 and the computers went down when we were trying to pay. We missed the movie we were trying to go to because we had to wait 45 minutes to pay (NOT exaggerating). After waiting 45 minutes, they calculated our tabs by hand and wrote down our credit card information. We weren't given any discounts or offered anything to make up for the wait. The owner was present, because we overheard people that had recently ordered food being told that because they couldnt keep track of food without computers, they were just not going to serve anything. The owner never came to apologize or inquire.

I may try this again, but not until they have a new owner or management.

Ask to sit outside. It's nice inside too, but once the band starts playing it's pretty hard to have a conversation.

Our server was amazing. He sat down and introduced himself and shared some about the restaurant. He suggested items but wasn't pushy.

My wife's martini was $11, but it was huge and really good (she let me try it!).

All the food was great. The kobe beef sliders were our favorite. The salmon and crab cakes were also very good.

Great place for a romantic night out or just to kick back with friends!

I found Motif nearly 2 years ago after moving to the area and looking for jazz. From the very first visit I felt like I was at a NY jazz club except Motif has extremely friendly staff, great service, and the best food you'll find anywhere. The music is second to none and mostly local talent. I've recommended Motif to many friends and is the #1 choice when I have out of town visitors. Make sure you give kudos to Rob the chef! Reservations a day or two in advance would be a wise decision.

Went here last weekend, my friend and I loved it! It was really cozy, we both had a glass of wine and split dessert while listening to a really superb group. The music was the perfect volume, not so loud that you couldn't talk, but you were mostly just listening anyway.  We didn't have reservations but I think we  got lucky with getting a spot. You could walk by this place and not see it, but I have a feeling they have a devoted crowd. A fun way to spend a Friday night. Cozy atmosphere, good dessert, good wine, and good jazz.

I made a reservation for 14 at Motif and had to change the time twice.  They were perfectly understanding about the whole thing.  Most places get a little irritated with you when you do that.  I appreciated the feeling of being an appreciated customer!  Something that seems to be lacking in most establishments anymore.

The drinks are all around 10 dollars a glass.  Not bad for innovative style martinis.  They also have a pretty decent wine list.

I have to agree with most other reviews about the Kobe Sliders.... They were one of my favorites of the night.  The Truffle fries were also a very good choice, an especially good choice to nibble on when you're trying some of their fun drinks.  The vegetarian selection wasn't very extensive... unless you want to try one of their yummy salads.

The live music was so much fun too.  Loud!  But definitely fun.  :D

I had a great time here and expect to come back again and again!

I love this place as it's a great hang-out place for date nights or girls night. Besides, wine and beer, they also serve delicious tapas and cocktail drinks. The place offers indoor and outdoor sittings, which is a nice options to have. (No bringing kids, though.) Dress attire is dressy casual, meaning no ripped jeans, t-shirt, flip-flops, etc. Yay! :)

I'd recommend this place to my family and friends.

I am SO glad there is a place like this in the Springs! Actually, it might be the ONLY one like it here! This place partners with a local, popular catering team called The Food Designers. They had converted an old house located in Old Colorado Springs into their kitchen and store-front, and had the brilliant idea of creating a Jazz bar in the un-used garage portion of the building in the back.

I have been here a few times and never once have I heard a bad band play. The people that frequent this place come mostly for the music, and it does not dissapoint! The other reason people come here (myself anyways) is the AMAZING food! It is created by the Food Designers and comes served nosh style so you can get a few plates to share. It isn't cheap, but I promise you won't regret spending the money.

The drinks here are also not cheap, but they have a nice menu full of drink flavors I haven't seen anywhere else.

I think my favorite part about this place, besides the amazing music, is the atmosphere. It is high-end looking without feeling stuffy and the crowd is a fun group of middle-aged people just looking to get out and have a great night without the kids. It is a breath of fresh air from the other overwhelming military hot spots on Tejon. This is my favorite place to go out in the Springs. By Far.

Would have loved to give this place 5 stars, but for whatever reason our service totally dropped off halfway through our meal.  It was as if they decided they were done waiting on us, never checked back to see if we wanted more drinks, more food, or dessert!  After waiting a while to try and get the attention of our waitress, the check was dropped off without us even asking for it.  Then to make matters worse, they didn't come back to pick up the check with our card in it.  The food was great, the music was great, the atmosphere was great, but the service was inconsistent and disorganized.

Hippest hot spot in the Rockies, maybe even the Western US.  Food is as sophisticated as any we have had in New York or L.A. The music is fresh and swinging...proprietor  Steve Draper makes every guest feel like he's known them for 25 years. And the guy can really rock the ivories. Will definitely be coming around for years on our trips to the Springs and recommending it to all our traveling friends.

Motif is the most "Chicago" I've felt since moving to Colorado Springs.  It has great ambience, good drinks, delicious food and really great jazz.

I'm excited to go back and try Motif when it gets a little warmer out-- they have an awesome garage door on one side of their space (it actually looks like they may be operating inside a nicely refurbished old garage), which opens on to a patio that looked casual and inviting.

    A few notes:
    1) This place is REALLY LOUD.  If you want to have a conversation with your date, think again.  This is one reason I'd like to go back in the summer-- I think I'd really enjoy hearing the music AND enjoying my company with the music diffused a little bit and not bouncing around inside the concrete bar.
    2) This place can get really crowded-- be prepared for a wait, and don't be in a rush to get served by the 2 waitresses working their butts off to keep everyone happy.
    3) The menu is a little confusing-- some items are seasonal, or only available at certain times of day-- though these items aren't marked in any special way.

All in all, this place was fun.  The crowd skews a little older, but it's a fun group that's prone to leaping from their seats and filling the limited space around the bar with dancing.

I recommend the truffle fries and kobe beef sliders if you're in the mood to nosh.

The food was insanely good. The atmosphere was stellar and reminiscent of a jazz club of old with a modern flair. Service was both attentive and laid back. You could easily spend the night here without pressure. The kitchen service was fast without a sacrifice to quality..... Most certainly will dine again and bring others as well!

Trying to find a nighttime spot in Colorado Springs in next to impossible. After waiting on a wait list elsewhere, we called Motif Jazz bar and got on a wait list there. They actually returned the call about openings and held table for us until we got there.  Good music - that wasn't too loud even when right next to stage.  The food was good as well. Kitchen stayed open until 10:45pm. Prices were reasonable. Our waitress was Sarah and she was great.

Love this place!  Unexpected and hidden away, this little jazz club is a bit hard to find if you're expecting a obvious venue!  There is NO sign, so look for the bamboo fence surrounding the patio area.  The patio area is spacious with powerful heaters, so hanging out in the fall is comfortable.  The atmosphere was down to earth and laid back. Not really into jazz, but it was good music. Made me take notice. Sarah, our server was attentive and fun.  We literally tried everything on the menu except for the salmon.  Some of my favorites are the sweet potato gnocchi, steak and potato (my favorite), and truffle fries. They are tapas style and meant for sharing.  The portions are enough for 6 most of the time, except for the kobe beef sliders.  The drinks are yummy.  I stuck with the mango martini. I tasted all my friends martinis...you can't go wrong.  Good wine selection and a full bar.  Definitely coming back soon!

I wanted to love this place, but I need to try it again first.

This is a very cool jazz bar, hidden away in Old Colorado City, and you would never find it if you weren't looking for it. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not. The atmosphere is incredible. It has a garage door that opens up to to a big patio with torches for the night time.

Here's my problem: I went here for a social meetup, and found out that they had reserved the patio, but because we got rained out, we all had to squeeze inside the building which is very tiny, and they clearly were not prepared to hold that many people. This made for the most crowded and loudest get together I have ever been to. Ever. There were bodies everywhere, not sure whether to sit or stand, and having to yell above the noise was difficult enough already, and then a Jazz band started playing making all conversation almost pointless. My only other beef was that they have nothing on tap--just bottles, and a very limited selection at that. That's kind of annoying.

Other than those concerns, I want to come back here and give it another shot because it is so cool.

I just love Motif.  They are low-key, classy and fun.  Great bartender, the food is very consistently good, and the music adds such a great ambiance.  Usually they are only open Friday and Saturday, but during the summer they expand their hours a bit, offering a happy hour and opening for brunch on Sundays.  The outdoor patio is very nice as well, though I always sit at the bar.
In my opinion one of Old Colorado City's best-kept secrets.  Come check it out, but let's keep it to ourselves!

Ambiance: Wow! This is a hidden gem, tucked away on a side street in Old Colorado City. No signage, and one of the numbers of the address was missing from the side of the building, making this place a little difficult to find for a first-timer. Old garage, that has been converted into a small, hip jazz club, that one would expect to find in a major urban center, not in Colorado Springs. Nice patio, with high-end outdoor furniture, and heat towers to stay warm in cooler weather. Inside, bar has stools for about ten patrons, and there are about ten or so tables inside the bar. Jazz plays on weekends, and is very good, though difficult to hear at times over the roar of the crowd. Gets very busy. Trendy and a bit upscale, but still casual. Crowd age is typically late 30s to late 50s.

Service: Black-dressed bartender and wait staff are friendly and attentive. Food/drinks arrived timely, even when the place got crazy busy.

Food/Drink: Great tapas-inspired bar menu, though more Americanized than Spanish in themes. Outstanding kobe sliders and manchetta-laced truffle skinny fries. Yummy! Crusted chicken bits were crunchy, yet tender and juicy inside. Very good dipping sauces. Innovative drink and martini selections. Top shelf. My favorite is the cucumber vodka martini - even more refreshing than a mojito.

Overall: Our group arrived at about 6pm on a Friday, and stayed until close to 10pm, so we saw the place evolve from hardly anyone there, to being packed to the rafters. We all had one of the best nights out on the town here in Colorado Springs than at any other venue. The jazz vocalist on the night we were there was through-the-roof talented. Great backing band as well. And the food and drink were exceptional in both presentation and taste. Our group of three very easily ran up a tab over $200, so though this won't be a weekly outing, will be a place I look forward patronizing on a semi-regular basis.

This place is really something special in Old Colorado City. The decor is very modern and feels like New York, with an outside patio seating arrangement to create more atmosphere. The music is lively and very entertaining, while guests are busy chatting it up.

I have only tried the drinks and I can tell you they are top shelf. I personally took on the habanero martini challenge and survived! I'm not sure how without gallons of milk or loafs of bread! I will be back to try all of the food and possibly update this post! If you want a seat, you'd better get there early and settle in for a long night of fabulous atmosphere, drinks and jazz.
