The view is impeccable. Â Worth going just for that. Â The food and service however were mediocre at best.
I came into town for the yearly gem and mineral show. Â After looking for something close via my yelp app, I saw this 5 star rated restaurant and decided to give it a try. Â However, I got there at 7:30 pm and they said they were closing for the day. Â Pretty early IMO. Â Luckily I came back to the show 2 days later with some other friends and we made sure we made it in on time.
Upon being seated on the back deck with one of the most amazing views around it didn't take me long to realize that my waiter wasn't on point. Â He wasn't able to answer the simplest of questions about the menu, never refilled the water, and I actually saw him busing tables instead of cashing out our check later in the meal.
The menu is a little pricey for the area, but nothing too bad as long as you stay away from the "market priced" items.
FIrst, the drinks. Â We got a round of some of the worst bloody mary's I've ever had. Â CHeap vodka in some zing zang mix would blow these out the water. Â Speaking of water, I think they were literally watered down. Â We tried adding pepper, tabasco, salt, and eventually ordered some pickled veggies and that juice made them drinkable.
I went with the crab cakes. Â Doughy, not the most amazing flavor. Â Now that I think back on it, you probably shouldn't have your hopes that high for crab on top of a mountain. Â One friend ordered the Reuben. Â Not bad, but nothing special. Â Then my other fellow diner ordered the dry aged Ribeye. Â I'll admit, it was tasty, but it came out to almost $30 and it was not a $30 steak.
After some debacles with the waiter and the cashing out process, we left with some beautiful pictures and full bellies, but not too much else to show for it.  The people sitting next to us ordered the trout however, and it may be worth a try.  I'll go back if ever in the area, but not in  any hurry.
What a pleasant surprise to find nestled among the beautiful mountains of NC. Â The view was amazing, but the food and the service were outstanding. Â Everything we sampled was absolutely delicious and although it wasn't the special of the night, the staff had no problem accommodating our request for steak and lobster; serving us the juiciest filet mignon and the most appetizing and succulent lobster. Â Highly recommend.
Review Source:Best spot in Southern Appalachia. View. Atmosphere. Service. Food. American Nuveau Continental Cuisine. Â Also serves beer and wine. They MIGHT have a full bar by now, its been a year or two. That's how much it sticks out in my memory! Pretty Little Trout is TO DIE FOR! RECOMMEND AGAIN AND AGAIN!
