Probably more of a 3.5 based on my meal but I'm being generous because I tasted my hubby's and I'm getting that next time. I got the turkey, mashed potatoes and dressing. He got the broasted chicken, potluck cheesy potatoes and you can get the salad bar as a side for no extra charge. (Seriously!? Yes please!) My turkey was really good. Moist, chunks of real turkey, no "loaf" or low grade poultry glob that is sliced up. The mashed potatoes were bland and the stuffing was nothing more than grilled bread, random veggies and dry, dry, dry. No seasoning either. I had to mix the sides together to make them edible.

Now the hubby's chicken and potatoes were very good. So good that when he kept raving, I had to shut him up because it was irritating me since I didn't have the same experience. Crunchy, juicy chicken, the cheesy potatoes were just as you'd want with probably a log of Velveeta with a side of coronary disease with crunched up crackers on top! YUM! They also gave us bread and they have this peanut butter spread and apple butter on the table. USE IT. It's enough to make you want to non-chalantly put it in your purse. If I'd known it was that good, I would've grabbed some at Hershbergers when we saw it.

The lines here are insane so be prepared to wait. We came at off peak time (so we thought...1:30pm) and it was still a 30 minute wait which isn't bad but it is SO packed in the lobby and their loudspeaker doesn't reach to the outside so you have no choice but to wait. We somehow lucked out and after driving around for 20 minutes, we walked in to wait with the rest of the masses and they were calling our name as soon as we walked in. So don't wait outside or drive around since their estimates might be a little off.

I'd go here again and get the broasted chicken and potluck potatoes for sure.

This was really good food and absolutely great service. I had the buffet on Friday night and hubby had the ribs, which didn't look all that great but tasted wonderful. Everything I tried on the buffet, meat loaf, chicken (the best we have had lately!), noodles, salad bar, fresh baked bread... I tried a little of everything and it was all good and served in small portions so that it could be brought out hot and fresh. We will be returning, if we ever get hungry again. :)

Mrs Yoder's is a little more plain than the big 'amish' restaurants along the main tourist drag. Tables are covered in vinyl and there's not much breaking up the large dining area. The place is clean.

But - look past the simple decor. The food is phenomenal. The broasted chicken I had here was a knock out, far better than the broasted chicken at one of those mega-restaurants 10 minutes away. It was juicy, hot, and seasoned great. Blueberry pie was bursting full of blueberries, very fresh. My wife's date cake was delicious as well, you could taste the date and the texture of the cake was moist while not being drowned into a soggy mess. Kids menu is nice, very reasonable at under $5 with big portions.

Server was extremely polite and just felt more true to the Amish way. Prices were $1-2 less than the big name restaurants as well. So if you want to keep a little more money in your pocket AND get food that is equal or better, this is your stop.

By far the best food on the area! The broasted chicken is amazing!

Great food, excellent service. Even there buffet (though we didn't try it), looked good and the food looked freshly prepared.

I ordered the Wedding Steak, which was decent, and mashed potatoes and green beans. Sadly, the mashed potatoes did not taste homemade, and the green beans were canned.

A nice touch in the restaurant is their fresh baked bread (white or wheat) which they will bring to you in unlimited supply. Also supplied on each table is the wonderful Amish peanut butter, which I'm told has maple flavoring and marshmallow crème in it...very tasty, and rich. Also on the table is their delicious apple butter. Never had apple butter before quite like it - it was rather good and not overly spiced.

Unfortunately, the blackberry pie I ordered wasn't good at all (hence the missing star). This would have been a five star review, but the "homemade" pie was just awful. The crust was not flaky at all, and the filling was just gloppy and gelatinous, with barely any blackberries, and I doubt they were even fresh (more than likely frozen or canned). I thought the Amish were known for their pies but this pie wasn't worthy of an "Amish title" in my opinion My sister's dessert, however, was very good. She ordered the date cake with caramel sauce.

I would definitely visit this restaurant again if I'm ever in the area.

You can't beat this place for selection, quality and price. We have the lunch buffet which changes daily. The salad bar is huge (clean too) and the entree's are always hot. Homemade bread is served with each meal. The price is low!!! It's a "don't miss it" in Amish Country of Ohio.

Having been to a few Amish country buffets over the years, this is by far the best! I went there for lunch over Easter weekend and, while crowded, there were plenty of tables and no wait. The buffet is fairly straightforward with "broasted" chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, etc. A nice feature is a separate salad bar with good selection of greens, dressings, and other toppings. Our server was a delight and gave an excellent explanation of the other menu options. Having had chicken at another buffet the day before, Mrs. Yoder's was excellent: perfectly cooked, moist, and very tender!! I will definitely return. Also, don't miss the hardware store down the street as it has a very interesting and complete "housewares" section with Amish soap, cast iron pans, and straw hats!!

Easily the best "Amish" style resturaunt in Holmes County Ohio. We eat here frequently and are always happy with the food and great service!

They feature specialty buffets on some Friday nights during the winter months. If you happen to be there on one of those nights expect to wait an hour or so, otherwise it normally is 15 minutes or less.

Good home-style buffet breakfast. Nothing fancy, comfort food. Plenty and well executed. Not expensive. A definite stop in the area if you're looking for a traditional American buffet breakfast.

After lovely day in Holmes County we stopped here for an early dinner. It was so delicious. This place has great food. The salad bar is sparkling clean and vegetables fresh and beautiful. The entree bar had fried chicken, roast beef, meat loaf and sausage with cabbage, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, stuffing, sauteed squash and several other things. Everything we tried was cooked perfectly. There is skilled cook behind this kitchen who has high standards. This food was excellent. Best fried chicken I ever ate. I will be dreaming about it. Oh and the entire menu is very reasonably priced and the staff really friendly.

Good food, good service, very popular place. I had the buffet, and while it did not fit into my diet's idea of healthy, it was good.

The best experience here was eating with the Amish families and seeing their cute children. We ate here for lunch on a Wed. and had no wait. I ordered the 3 pc. broasted Chicken ($9.49) and it was very good - I don't usually eat fried food so it was a treat. My mashed potatoes were good but I make better. The asparagus was the best but beware they serve it covered in cheese & bacon - which I told them to NOT put on mine - they served it correctly. My friend got the roast turkey, mashed potatoes & stuffing - she liked it all but I tried her stuffing & I thought is was mushy & tasteless. Our waitress was great & accommodated my friends' many requests. This was the better of the 2 Amish restaurants we ate at during our quick trip.

I don't know... This place was fine, but I still felt like there was a lacking of authenticity, which is what I was really hoping for. The food was of the super-comfort variety. (Turkey, Potatoes, etc...) It was like another Thanksgiving dinner, but not all that exciting. I was intrigued by the hyper-color hues of some of the pickled items (like the canary yellow eggs).

The ambiance felt like a cafeteria that had touches of "grandma" hominess, but without any coziness.

My feelings toward my visit here in hindsight leave me not even caring that I went here...

Good, honest, home cooked Amish comfort food. I always get the lunch buffet. They have the absolute best fried chicken I have ever tasted in my life. The lunch buffet always has the chicken, and other rotating items. Also highly recommended are the hamloaf, chili/cornbread casserole, stuffing, and the cheesy potatoes.

Not a Fan is all I can say. Boring interior that reminded me of an old home cafeteria setting. I checked out the buffet and wasn't impressed at all, so hubby and I decided to order off of the stained menu. He went with the broasted chicken which he said was decent. I went with the meatloaf which was loaded with ketchup that I had to scrape off. I guess it was added to give flavor to the meatloaf. Both of us weren't impressed with the stuffing at all, which lacked anything but bread. I am not sure if they are big on using any seasoning whatsoever. Boring bread before the meal added nothing to the experience.
I decided to try to liven things up by having the pumpkin cake with icing for dessert, was just "OK". Hubby shared it with me and thought the cake was dry.
I did see some Amish families enjoying their meal there, and for the experience I guess it is worth going to if you want to experience that kind of food, but I can't give it a better rating then 2 stars.

Best Amish lunch or dinner I've had to date since visiting! Their Broasted chicken is fantastic!! Enough off the beaten path to weed out some tourists. Note: the place was pretty full, but it was so quiet. Everyone was too busy enjoying their meal to converse.

The other reviews have gone into sufficient depth that more or less cover the basics; the gist from me: Exactly what you'd hope for when looking under 'Amish' in a restaurant guide.... I was there on a non-auction day (see http://www.mthopeauction…), but there was still a pretty good crowd of both local Amish and tourist English customers.

Heavy, traditional comfort food. I did the buffet to try a bit of everything: pepper steak, mashed potatoes, chicken/noodles, green beans with bacon etc etc etc - great sunday-dinner-on-the-farm-type stuff, in addition to a salad bar with two types of pickled eggs and plenty of bread. I ate too much and will go with a standard entree next time (the meatloaf wasn't on the buffet - it was calling my name from a bearded dude's plate at the next table.)

Atmosphere is church basement-ish, but it wouldn't be right if it was anything else.

All in all a great part of an unusual work-related visit to a very unique part of the country. I'll go back and take my family.

We moved to Ohio from North Hollywood CA and we were looking for that "go to" spot that we can go when we are not on diet. Mrs Yoder's Kitchen it is!!!

Let me start by describing how many people are waiting to be sit in. There are probably around 20 people waiting in the hallway but you don't have to wait long because after 15 mins, we got seated.

We tried the buffet so we can sample everything but you can order anythong you want. Their menu is so good that you will have problems choosing. Anywyas, we started with the salad bar and they got the freshest greens and awesome dressing. They have red and yellow eggs. A must try but nothing so special about it. There is an orange jello-take a bite of that.

Now the other part of the biffet is where you get the meats. I start off with the "broasted chicken, meatloaf and the home made gravy. Man oh man that chicken was awesome. Damn it was delicious. Top that with either brown or white gravy. They have chicken enchillada, thay was ok. The wedding steak with the white gravy was my second favorite. The home made bread that I got was so soft. I put some of their peanut butter and appple butter sauce abd gee we ordered both to go. Hands down it is the best restaurant we have ever been and officially now our go to place. Along the way, you will see lots of Amish cheese factory, antique stores and furnitures. It is a very interesting Place!

Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen is located in Amish Country and like most of the other Amish owned stores is certainly off the beaten path. I must say that this place is not a convenient trip to make, so while you are out there plan to visit some of the other Amish stores in the area, but keep an eye on the time as nearly everyplace closes early (relative to metropolitan standards).

The restaurant is almost always on a wait (about 20 minutes when we visited) but the crowds move through quickly. There is a popular buffet and salad bar. Most of the items on both bars looked fresh and of good quality. I ordered the pot roast dinner and chose mashed potatoes and gravy + steamed broccoli as my sides. I also added a trip to the salad bar. The server recommended that I mix my broccoli with cauliflower and top my vegetables with cheese. I decided to pass on the cheese.

The salad bar was fresh and the dressings appeared to be homemade. Their homemade bread is baked daily and is also sold at $2 a loaf to go. They had two versions of pickled eggs on the bar which I found of interest. When the main dishes arrived the server notified me that they had mistakenly put cheese on my vegetables and a replacement order would be out soon. The replacement wasn't steamed thoroughly and was icy in the center of the florets. The post roast was quite good, but like most Amish cuisine it was lightly seasoned. I had no complaints about the mashed potatoes or gravy.

I had a strawberry and lemon cake for dessert and a cup of coffee. If you are visiting from a metropolitan area I would advise you to skip the coffee. The flavors of coffee served throughout most of the US have progressed greatly in the last 10-15 years and the coffee at Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen (and most of Amish country) has a flavor that will taste off to most Americans.

I would return to Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen and I recommend it if you are in the area but keep in mind that the food is seasoned very simply and your expectations should be in line with traditional Amish fare. For three people, our bill was slightly over $50.

Note to restaurateurs and foodies: Expect to see several service items not typically used in today's establishments such as bus tub carts in the dining room and trays with a variety of pitchers containing soda pop, water and teas being used by the wait staff. Also squirt tubes of apple butter and homemade jelly are displayed in a caddy for use on each table.

Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen is a great buffet restaurant in Mt. Hope. I've eaten there several times and have had a great meal.

I did order off the menu once for breakfast and it was also very good.

It is also frequented by many of the local folks; expect to see some Amish buggies parked there.
