Ok I call this restaurant - the restaurant you would love to hate. Â The food is fab- hands down- no problems there. Â But there seems to be a problem with the kitchen and how food is brought out. Â
We ordered the cheese and meat plate, soup, and dinners for 3 of us. We were served the dinners, then soup, and then "because he said he forgot" the meat an cheese plate at the end. Â
We had to go get the waiter so we could get more drinks- apparently the conversation with the cute waitress was more important. Â Ughhhhhhhhhhh - I know the owners have other restaurants in the area - come on get the kitchen and waitstaff on board as to how to serve food and keep patrons. Â
(I know in my last review I wrote the waitstaff was excellent- I should have been clearer - she was excellent in personality but the exact same thing happened with the bizarre order the food came out. Â I didnt mention it because I thought it was a fluke)
I didn't get a chance to eat anything here. I just met up with people for drinks and I must say that it's a pretty nice place to just sit and have drinks. They have an extensive menu for drinks including beers, wines, and cocktails. They also have a decent drink specials list.
The theme here is definitely soccer. I think thats a nice change from most bars that typically only have ESPN on. Don't get me wrong, I like watching other sports, but I'm digging the soccer theme here. Although it was raining yesterday when we were there, we decided to sit out on the patio. Apparently it's been recently done and it looks great! On a nicer day, sitting out on the patio would've been perfect. The staff here are also really great. The bartender was very nice and seemed to be enjoying his job. The other staff are  great as well and I noticed that they were regularly monitoring the cleanliness of the place, which you definitely don't see often at bars, especially ones that are full of people.
I think this is yet another great place on Hertel Ave that adds to the charm of North Buffalo. It's definitely a nice place for drinks. Next time I'd love to try out the food. I'm sure I'll be back soon!
Met a group of friends for a birthday celebration. Liked the place, cool inside and an impressive beer list. Plus I was so happy to see both Magners and Strongbow offered... and who knows what other delicious options they had (I was in a hurry to order and was sold on the Magner's as soon as I saw it!).
Bartender service was fast and friendly. Prices were decent.
Definitely want to return to have a fuller experience. Bookmarked!
One of the newer bars in the area that has what it takes to be a long term staple in Buffalo...namely because of the great service and good food and beverage choices. Â Did I say great service? Â I mean really good service and there is a reason I am repeating this...I have been to many bars and restaurants in the Buffalo area and for some odd reason, the service is mediocre and I am a great tipper when I get great service. Â I digress. Â My beer drinking friend enjoyed the selections and I was happy to see California wine selections (maybe consider adding a Frensh rose? Â All the rage these days) Â The small plates are good portions and interesting selections - somewhat healthy (not fried, in other words). Â It gets noisy at times but it is a bar - nice decor and very clean bathrooms (always a good sign). Â I did not think the food prices were out of line but I am not into wings and am fine paying a little more for better food.
I will be back as this place has a good vibe. (I would have given a 5 but the parking is horrid...not their problem really but I am thinking the restaurant people need to ban together and get some sort of valet going similar to Market Street in lovely Cleveland)
Best of luck to the staff and owners!
I have visited Mes Que twice for drinks.
Pros: The bar is well-stocked. Â Not only did they serve rye, which is uncommon in Buffalo, but they had my favorite brand. Â It's one of the best atmospheres I have experienced at a Buffalo bar. Â The crowd is good-looking and professional. Â It is a little gem in the Hertel district. Â The soccer theme is noticeable, but not over the top. Â
Cons: Â The service was inconsistent. Â Of the three bartenders who served me, only one really seemed to care about the cocktail he was mixing, and the results matched his focus. Â The second was competent, and the third accidentally mixed vermouth with vermouth and called it a manhattan. Â Of course mistakes happen, but any decent bartender should be able to realize visually that something is awry. Â And another note about the service: Â The food servers dress like bartenders and prepare the simple menu items behind the bar. Â Just after arriving, and without knowing the bifurcation of duties, I tried ordering a drink from one of the servers behind the bar. Â The guy completely ignored me as if it was obvious that he was a hipster chef that night rather than a hipster bartender. Â That attitude belongs in the kitchen, not facing customers.
Overall: Â The service needs work but the bar's heart is in the right place.
This is going to be a short and sweet review.
They have soccer on TV all the time. It's pretty cool if you're a fan or need a distraction from your girlfriend. Really good beer selection. The specialty cocktails ($8) are delicious.
Negatives include limited seating. There will be none on a weekend night. The menu is very, very limited but I can't comment on it because I refuse to pay $15 for a small cheese dish.
Honestly, it's a good place to cool down after a night of bar-hopping. It's not really a destination. I have no complaints. It helps make Hertel a little more classy.
Unlike the majority of the rest of the reviews, I am not a soccer or "futbol" fan.....at all. Â However I am a hockey fan, and a Sabres fan (no matter how awful they have been lately). Â So on a Thursday night when I checked my yelp app to see where there was a bar nearby to watch the Sabres game, Mes Que came up as a result, labeled "Sports Bar". Â So despite my lack of enthusiasm for soccer, I decided to go here with hopes that they would have the Sabres game on and there would be an open spot at the bar.
My hopes were answered when I walked in and saw two giant TVs over the bar with the Sabres game on. Â Luckily, there were also two open seats at the bar. Â Unfortunately, there was no audio for the game. Â I was surprised to see that there was barley any tables for dining in here. Â Instead, there was a large open space in the middle of the restaurant/bar. Â Until looking at the photos on the website and coming to find the hundreds of people that pack this place for a soccer game, I thought this space was unusual. Â I was pleased with the caliber of this so called "sports bar". Â Given the choices of bars on Hertel (Gecko's, Wellington Pub, etc.) this is a nice breath of fresh air. Â It was more upscale than I expected, and I liked this. Â I don't frequent Hertel often due to the lackluster of bars located there. Â Surprisingly, this place surpassed my expectations and reminded me more of an establishment you would find on Elmwood. Â Although the dark ambiance and the candles on the bar and tables made it cozy, it still was a little cold and uninviting upon your first steps in because of the giant unfilled space in the center. Â
This may be odd, but I have to comment that the bathroom is beautiful! Â The light fixtures and decorations are modern and fashionable, and there is even a gorgeous chandelier hanging from the ceiling! Â However, it was only a single use bathroom. Â On the night I was there it wasn't an issue at all, but after looking at those photos on the website when the bar is packed for soccer games; I can't even imagine the wait to use the restroom.
Both bartenders on duty that night were VERY friendly. Â They both went out of their way to explain all the drinks and specials they were offering. Â I picked two drinks off of their cocktail menu. Â Both were gin concoctions and both were delicious! $8 each..but well worth it! Â I did not order any food during my visit.
I can say the next time I am looking for a quiet, cozy, place to have a drink I will come back to Mes Que.
I am writing my review from the perspective of the soccer fan supporter. Â My husband is a fan of La Liga, Serie A, EPL, etc... so when we were going to be in Buffalo, I had wanted to find a place for him to enjoy while I would be working. Â Mes Que turned out to be that place and thankfully, it was way better than we could have anticipated.
We did not try the food, although we will next time. Â It gets a little crazy in there during the matches, which thankfully I did not get to experience. Â The service is great, staff is friendly, and has quite possibly the cleanest ladies room I have ever been in (this is a huge plus for me). Â
They have an impressive wine and scotch/whiskey/bourbon selection (not too expansive, just quality drinks with decent price points). After the matches are over, it becomes a pretty chill place with a great overall vibe. Â So much that I wish they were in our home base of Pittsburgh as well as this is the type of place we enjoy.
I hadn't been to Mes Que but have always wanted to check it out. I called a couple of weeks prior to my wife's birthday to see if they had any special events going on that evening. The staff member I spoke with was really nice and said that they would be happy to accommodate a group of 15 for my wife's birthday.
Everyone who came on the night of the party had a great time. The drink selection is great for both beer and wine. They even through in 3 pizzas and a cheese plate on the house because of the large group I bright in. I look forward to going back again soon.
cool tasteful decor inside. Â there was a nice vibe, the lights were low but not too dark, the crowd was a nice mix of neighborhood people and after work crowd. Â We went here to grab a quick dinner and to meet a friend for after dinner drinks. Â The food was decent (i'd skip the duck panni), but what impressed me the most is when I saw the smallest kitchen every and that the chef cooked our meal on a fancy hot plate. Â The service was perfect, and they had a nice beer selection. Â Will definitely come back again more so for drinks and an appt ..... Also, it's on my list of places to take out of town visitors for drinks
Review Source:What a nice surprise! Més Que is a tiny little bit of Europe in the neighborhood. Food is outstanding, wine and beer list is outstanding, and they show proper football (soccer for American readers). Décor is great, service is outstanding.
I've said once if I've said it 1,000 times, bars and restaurants in Buffalo have to cater to a very low-end, provincial crowd. If Buffaloanians believe a place to be too *fancy* or expensive (even if it isn't) it won't do well (just read some of the reviews above). Más Que is very un-Buffalo, on the chill and quiet side, so if you're looking for an obnoxious "sports" bar that shows Bills games and serves greasy trash to loud, obese "fans" with 50 cent drafts, then stay in your own neighborhood, this place isn't for you. However if you'd enjoy a fine relaxed evening in the company of other sport (notice there is no "s" there) aficionados, with some fine food and drinks without breaking the bank, this place is a real gem and an outstanding addition to the Hertel strip.
This is such a great addition to the Hertel strip! For a long time, there has been a distinct mix of very casual sports bars and upscale Italian restaurants.
Mes Que is the perfect bridge for those who want to relax in a  more sophisticated bar, but without the prices (and stuffiness) of a traditional fine dining experience. Soccer fan or not... it's definitely a very cool spot with a great selection of spirits.
I always wanted a place to watch soccer with some of my fellow supporters. Thankfully Mes Que is here. I went on opening day of the EPL season at noon. Bar already due to an earlier game. Luckily was able to find a seat when I got there. Bartender promptly took my order, and had my beer almost right away. They have a lot of beers on tap, mostly imports (real imports, not Molson). Which I don't care for much but it's cool that they have those. Bottle selection is nice if you don't like the beers on tap. Opened a tab and even though the bar was full, the bartender remembered my name from looking at the card once. Beers are a bit expensive, but they give you real pints when ordering draughts. Not 12 oz like most bars. 16 oz of glory. Â 4 tvs in the bar. Big ones behind the bar, nice area near a tv in the back corner with comfortable seating.
Came back a second time and more of the same. Had a young English kid behind the bar, looked like he was still learning the ropes of the place. Had a friendly demeanor and was engaging so I didn't mind at all. Asked for a vodka, OJ, but they didn't have OJ behind the bar. Come on!!! It's 1130am, get some oj!!! Bartender did offer to go get some for me, so they did have some, it was just downstairs. Different bartender came in halfway through my game (same guy from last week), he was great again. One of the best bartenders I've had in any bar in Buffalo. Always ready to refill your drink, friendly, knows when to talk, takes interest in your game. Mes Que is lucky to have him. I feel like I'm a jerk because I don't know his name.
Overall, great place, clean, fun, will go there  to watch any soccer event and every time I'm on Hertel, I will defintely stop in to get a drink.
My husband and I dined here about a week ago and we weren't quite sure what to expect of the food. I was hoping to sit on the lovely patio, but it was a rainy night so we headed inside instead. The crowd was good for a Friday night and the atmosphere was pleasant, mostly candlelit with two large TVs quietly playing soccer behind the bar. The beer and wine list was extensive and pretty reasonably priced. I ordered an organic beer and my hubs got a glass of wine. Both came pretty quickly. The dinner menu consisted of small plates, like individual pizzas and paninis. We decided to start with the pork empanada appetizer for $6. The plate it came on was kind of laughable as it was way too big and empty for the appetizer itself. The empanada was pretty small and came served in a mini cast iron skillet that was placed on top of doily. That's it. No garnish or mesclun salad. It tasted great, but it was gone too quickly. For dinner I ordered the salad with bacon, craisins, goat cheese and avocado for $8. The portion size was good and it had a generous amount of toppings. My husband ordered the BBQ chicken pizza for $8. It was also a good size (about 8 small slices) and came with a lot of toppings, although there was too much onion on it for my liking. Overall our dinner at Mes Que was a pleasant experience and we'll likely go back, but I think the kitchen could stand to work on their presentation/plating skills in the future.
Review Source:A lot of Buffalo's bars start to blend together, especially after a few drinks, but Mes Que stands out. The simple and bright interior, high quality and plentiful TV screens, beautifully covered patio, and the focus on futbol distinguish this bar from other local watering holes. I recently visited to watch the almighty US Women's soccer team bring home the gold vs. Japan, and had a wonderful time. The bar attracted a great crowd, and the atmosphere was lively, as fans drank, chanted, and cheered the USA to victory. I also appreciate that they have a good amount of seating, for those who may want to take a load off. Â I have yet to try their food, but the beer list is stocked with European favorites. I will definitely return to check out more games, and try what looked like some tasty bar food!
Review Source:On food, I'd give it a two. Â On atmosphere and service, a four. Â Balances out for a three. Â I didn't enjoy my goat cheese pizza -- the fruity balsamic sauce didn't go with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes. Â Might have been good without it. Â Everything else was enjoyable, especially the outdoor patio.
Review Source:So having seen nothing of their menu or anything else, my wife and I went to Més Que with hopes of watching a "football" game or two. When we arrived, it was clear this was far from a proper football bar. I'm ok with "fine dining" but this is just...sad. It's trying too hard and doing a terrible job at it.
But lets highlight some key points;
*Two TVs behind the bar
*No audio even though a game was on
*The patrons were dressed up, far too night for a proper football bar
*The pizza I tried was ok, but the sauce was too much and too rich for the toppings they had selected
This is basically a "fancy bar" with two TVs that show football...if only to keep the facade that they are a "Soccer Bar"...quite pathetic. Had they actually been presenting the game properly, you know, with audio and perhaps some memorabilia from clubs (football clubs)...perhaps then I could have forgiven them for the lackluster food, but no, this is definitely not a place for football fans.
If you want drinks and OK food, go to Més Que, if you want to actually enjoy a football game, have a few drinks, and perhaps socialize with other fans, this is definitely NOT the place to go to.
EDIT: As I have learned in my short time living here the Buffalo area, people have...bad taste. Or perhaps low expectations. I enjoy a beer here and there, but it's not my life, and with Buffalo, it seems you need to have a few in your system before you eat.
Thankfully there are a few good places in Buffalo (that we've found so far) that are priced well and offer great food. Still looking for that elusive football bar though :(
Great atmosphere, without a doubt the best place to watch soccer....you get that same feeling as being in Europe or some of the major cities in the US.
The place is extremely well done and with the addition of an outdoor patio, a really nice restaurant to sip a cold one along with some very tasty food and a great wine selection.
I'm basing this review solely on drinks and aesthetics as I did not dine here. Â
Buddy was in town, so that usually means that we concentrate on drinking, so of course I wanted to check out a new place that was so close to home. Â I'm not a fan, or a hater, and I secretly want to follow soccer because I would like to wear a team scarf. Â I decided to go during a soccer game (Yes it's a game not a match) because I wanted to get a feel for how the place when it's at it's best. Â I was not disappointed. Â When you first walk in you notice brand new tables and seats with a mix of some older wood elements and that classic ceiling that those old Buffalo bars have. Â There was a good mix of seating and very tastefully done. Â A brand new floor an elegant bar ties everything together.
There was a good amount of people but not overly crowded so I was able to get my beer without much of a wait. Â Â The crowd was passionate for being only 3pm, and there was a mix of business suits, and gym shorts. Â Basically people were skipping work or play to come by and watch their team on a Thursday in the afternoon, gotta love that. Â Eyes were glued to the brand new flat-screens above the bar. Â While waiting for my beer I looked at the menu, and I will say some have piqued my interest, so I'll be going back.
I can't wait to go back and eat. Â Ole, ole, ole, ole, ole , ole
Great place. Nice and clean with a soccer oriented atmosphere. Â The menu is light and affordable. I'd recommend the goat cheese pizza as well as the stuffed pepper appetizer. I've had the salmon spread appetizer which was good as well.Friendly service and of course soccer games if you're in to that. They open early for specific games which is pretty cool.
Review Source:Soccer. Calcio. Football. Buffalo's soccer underground is small, but as passionate as any group of fans you will ever meet. Global events like the World Cup have evoked yawnbombs from red-blooded Americans for generations. What about the dedicated fans? Where does someone in love with the game go to watch matches big and small with like minded individuals who get it?
In the past we have had to settle for the odd TV set up at Cafe Aroma for the World Cup, or huddle around each other at a friend's house to watch the FA Cup. No more! We now have a pub dedicated to, and operated by, people obsessed with the beautiful game.
"But Jay, 'Mes Que' isn't even proper Spanish. Snort. Chuckle. What gives?"
Sir, or Madame, listen and be educated. "Mes Que" is a wink and a nod to soccer fans, and is in fact a shortened version of FC Barcelona's club motto "More than a club", or in the Catalan language 'Mes Que un Club" - signifying the importance of the game, the team, and Catalan culture. The owners here are hard cores. Big time.
I came here to watch Chelsea FC against FC Bayern Munchen last Saturday, and I have to say I'm very impressed with this pub. Even if you didn't give a damn about the game, you would have to admit this place is really, really nice. The ceiling, the lights, the wood of the bar - they all contribute to the feeling that you're in a nicer than average establishment. There are two flat screens behind the bar, and another flat screen or two on the opposite wall where the tables are located.
I can't believe I'm going to do this, but I have to say the bathrooms here are really nice. WAAAAAYYY above average for a pub in Buffalo. Feels like a hotel in there.
For the Champions League game they had a special menu of small pizzas. I tried two of them. The first had shaved ribeye, hot cherry peppers and provolone for $8. The second had chorizo, arugula pesto, roma tomatoes and manchego for $7. Personally I felt that the flavors were fine on both, with the chorizo pie being my favorite of the two, but if I'm going to nitpick something I'll say the dough was too chewy for my taste.
The beer. It is a bar, and the beer does matter to me. Let's run it down:
Draft
----------------------
-Staropramen
-Franziskaner Dunkel
-Hofbrau Original
-Guinness
-Smithwick's
-FB Rusty Chain
-Okocim
-Fuller's ESB
Bottles (Just some highlights)
----------------------
-PBR, Corona, Bud, Bud Light, Coors Light (!!!!!), Blue Blue Light, Yuengling, et cetera, for people with poor taste
-Lindemans (which one, I have no idea, I don't ever order it)
-Leffe (again, don't know which one, I stay away from InBev)
-Ommegang Hennepin, Rare Vos and Witte (YES!!)
-European favorites Carlsberg, Boddington, Peroni, Kronenbourg)
-Estrella Daura, Strongbow Cider, and Magners Irish Cider if you are gluten-free
-Orval (serious thumbs up to this choice)
-Sam Adams Boston Lager
-Southern Tier Phin and Matt's
....and many more.
There is something for everyone on the beer list, from beer noob to beer snob. But what about the atmosphere??? That's why soccer fans come to a place like this. The bar was packed, an INTERNATIONAL crowd that you will typically only find at a soccer bar. Great vibe for the game. Everyone was into it. Awesome!!
Thank you for humoring this filibuster. Mes Que is a fantastic addition to a Hertel Avenue which is, in my opinion, getting better all the time. If you have even a passing interest in the beautiful game, or if you just want a good beer at a chill bar, I can't recommend this place enough.
Owners of Mes Que, thank you for giving us football nuts a place to congregate!!!
Admittedly, I have not yet tried their food so I can't comment. Â The menu looks great but a little pricey. Â This is not a "sports bar" by any means - higher end food, not "bar food."
That said, you really can't beat the bar here. Â Specifically: beer selection and price! Their draft list consists of various beers that I have not seen elsewhere (I have a friend who is from Czechoslovakia and they have a Czech beer which made her so happy and homesick). Â And how about this: Flying Bison Rusty Chain on draft for $3!!! Not even limited to happy hour!!!
For those who like a little fruity flavor to their beer, they have the rare, sought-after Lambic in bottle. Â Delicious, especially if you're not a big beer drinker. Â Tastes more like a cross between a malt and a beer.
If you're not a beer snob like myself, get a domestic (Labbatt, Bud, Mich Ultra) for only $2.50 at any time!!! You can't beat that deal, especially when you're on Hertel at a higher-end bar.
The televisions are great and I can tell that this would be a great place to watch soccer.
I wasn't terribly impressed with the bartenders; they were a little snooty.
Overall, a great place to get a good, inexpensive beer. Â I hope to eventually try their food.
Next time I am feeling particularly European and want to watch some Futbol I will most certainly be stopping into Mes Que. It's a really attractive space with a great beer list and quite a sizable wine list. My fiance ordered an old fashioned and the bartender even asked what kind of whiskey he would like!
I didn't  order any food but the menu looked interesting. I believe I saw a duck panini which sounds delightful. The TVs here are beautiful and I am sure will look even better with lots of hot soccer players on them! Haha.
I am always on the hunt for a great place to watch a great Futbol game (that's soccer for everyone in the States), but here in Buffalo well that is kind of hard to come by. Not anymore! Leaving Spot Coffee on Hertel Ave. this afternoon and I am hearing cheering coming from inside of this newly renovated space. Tv's are on and the place is pretty busy for 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon.
There's an open seat at the bar, so I slide on in. I ask the bartender what they have for beers and he kind of chuckled at me and just tossed me a menu. Take a gander at this! Glancing down at their menu and I stopped counting at 35 beers, most of which were imports. So I order a beer. Turns out their kitchen is open too so I order a panini. It comes out in record time with a salad and a bowl of pistachio's! That's right I said Pistachio's! How awesome is that...
To sum it up... A make needed and welcomed addition to Hertel Ave. Great beer selection and a small but what seems to be delicious menu.
