Was Googling about the southwest suburbs, found this bar, and took a drive on Monday to Channahon.
It's in the Big Basin Marina so they get boaters AND bikers. The outside is faded blue wood with a red wooden stairway, a Bud sign, a Coors Lite sign, and a packaged goods sign. There's four Port-O-Sans if you don't want to go all the way to the marina restroom which is a nice little touch. If you can refer to Port-O-Sans that way.
This doesn't mean there's no indoor plumbing. There's restrooms and the men's has a trough that someone was thoughtful enough to leave some change in in case you were a little light for the tab.
I hope the bartender said her name was Molly because I didn't write it down and if my memory is faulty it's not through any shortcoming of her's. Had her all to myself for at least 15 or 20 minutes and thoroughly enjoyed the conversation.
There's four TVs scattered around. I think the 7' pool table, one-ended bags set-up,and deer hunting video game in the side room, the four gambling machines, the view of the marina, and the customers is the draw. Not to mention $7.75 for a Bud and a Jameson. Pretty darned good.
The floor's pretty well-worn but clean and the battered bar has a sealed top with dollar bills, coins, and memorabilia on the wood beneath. Grass shack top over the bar completes the picture along with the myriad windows that all open onto the water. Not to be forgotten is the big wrap-around deck on the side and in back that is partially covered for less than clement weather.
It's a neat little out of the way place but worth a look if you've got time to take a spin.
A great place to enjoy a cold beverage on a hot summer day. We have watched the sunset many times from the deck that overlooks the river. On a nice summer weekend this place will see hundreds of motorcycles stop by as well as quite a few boaters pulling up to their docks. We also never miss their annual polar plunge on New Years Day the place is always packed.
Review Source:Just a cool place to hang out and grab a beer. But, remember to bring cash.
What a relaxed atmosphere, this hidden gem, I'm sure rocks during the summer time.
This dump is all ambiance, I know that doesn't make sense, but if you pull up in your boat, it will make perfect sense. The only place better is Fox's in Miami.
