Mulcahy's is alright. I know it's a pretty popular place to go among the people in my town and in my age group. I've been here a few times with friends and it wasn't anything too special. I know BIg Shot performs here and it's a big hit, but I've been here just on the regular DJ music nights. The drinks are fairly reasonable. Last time I went they had $3 well drinks. Obviously they aren't going to be too strong if they're bottom shelf material. But if you're looking for something cheap, you got it.
The one thing I like about this place is that the dancefloor is HUGE. There's plenty of room for dance-offs (which happened last time). They have a fog machine and lights too. And seating! If the dancefloor is not your thing... you can always hangout and talk back in the other room where you can actually hear yourself think. Overall, an okay place. I don't mind going back but prefer places in RVC more.
I came here on St. Patricks day and had a great time. I got there around 1 in the afternoon and there was plenty of seating at any of the three bars they have. Â They had plenty of bartenders and gettin a beer was pretty easy. Â The place is huge an there was alot of people there but it wasnt overcrowded at all. Â They had a couple of guys playing piano and singing songs which was cool. Â They were pretty funny too.
Later on they had the band "Big Shot" whichis a billy joel cover band. Â They were awesome, sounded great. Â The beer selection, not so great though, so I was stuck with Bud lights for $3 which wasnt so bad. Â The only negative was we ordered some wings and after ot getting them for an hour I asked the bartender again and she reodered them for us. Â So about an hour and a half after we ordered they finally arrived.
All in all its a decent place and we had a good time. Â Will definetely be back to see Big Sot again.
RACIST ESTABLISHMENT!!!! Â It's hard to believe that a bartender who relies on tips would act like she didn't see 3 black people enter this establishment. We stood around the bar for 10 minutes before we decided that we didn't need to spend our money there. Very hard to believe that that sort of behavior still exists. Really?? One thing is for sure we will definitely spread the word around. Oh and I did try to give her the benefit of the doubt but SHE WALKED RIGHT BY US AS SHE WENT to the buffet table. One thing is a definite again we will definitely pass the word around.. that's for sure.. Mulcahy's is a racist establishment. See you on Facebook.
Review Source:I was here for a catered event of about 100 people on a week night. Â The service was slow and the food was right from Costco. Â All the food was just out of the package and got heated up on the sterno. Â
I'm not looking for a gourmet meal from Mulcahy's, I just think they could put a little effort into it.
Please avoid. The first sign of a bad night was when they refused entry to my friend for having a "plain" white polo shirt on. It clearly says Pub outside, not 5 a  star midtown venue. The end all was when I was having a decent dance and conversation with a female, and the bouncer who tried to speak with her before to no avail, grabbed me up like he was a Gambino thug and threw me out along with his entourage of degenerate security who continued to choke and drag me as if I commited a crime against the Godfather. The whole altercation was recorded by the heckling head of security, and I await the upload of the video to pursue further legal action.
Review Source:Look I agree with a lot of you 1 star people. Â 100% correct about the age group the shitty beer how horrid packed it gets.
You take the crowed out for a sec...picture it for what it is. Â 2 huge bars...nice dance floor( a ton of room to bust a move)...small but still smoking out back...location next to the train station. Its really not bad at all for people 21-24ish.
I have had some bad times here...especially Friday Saturday nights but...
I went for to go see a semi popular rock band on a Sunday night...only about 50-60 people their...i had a fantastic time and my pockets didn't hurt,
Back in the day this place would never have people under 30 in it. Totally different now.
I have been here a few times on Saturday night and had a very good time just dancing. I think the music is good and the crowd - well for me it is basically a high school reunion since I grew up in Wantagh. I don't mind that. I do like the layout inside and despite the fact that they chose to not let people in randomly for dumb reasons (someone we were with did not have the right shoes) I would go back just to dance and act a fool.
Review Source:I agree with other yelpers... the rating on this place depends on the night you go. Â It's good week nights and is also great for charity functions. Â Weekend nights can be pretty crowded and filled with really young and annoying people, but they do get some great bands! Â It's generally for a younger crowd which means, unless it was for a charity function I have not really gone to Mul's in years. Â If you're under 25 you might consider it a good night out. Â They don't do buybacks.
Review Source:I dread this place.
Yes, they have decent music sometimes. But it is crowded beyond crowded with children and the most annoying mix of people you hate seeing from High School or College (take your pick).
Most important, they are expensive and serve crap beer.
Quick example, after an hour or so of feeding one bartender decent tips and getting nothing in return, my friend Jane asked the bartender straight out "Do you do buy backs?" Â To which the smoking hot ditz said "No, we can't." To which Jane responded "Then why should I tip you for opening Bud Lights." And with that she removed her money from the bar.
This is not a pub, it's not a bar, it's not a club... it is a money collecting, noise maker, that serves chilled beer-like substances.
No me gusta.
I don't like.
Don't bother going if you're over 23. They generally enter children there, I remember going when I was 22 I would see people 2-3yrs younger than me from high school. It is surrounded with young immature douchebags. Likely to be Wantagh and Seaford's high school reunion. Yes big space..yes making it a loungey vibe. Gross = cage dancers. I'd only consider a Happy Hour there.
The rating of this place really depends on the night that you go. The crowd is usually the worst part of this place (unless they have a rock band). I actually enjoyed the crowd when I was 21, but now at 25 I'm not huge on it.
The place itself is massive with 3 bars which makes it rarely difficult to get a drink. If you come here to see a live act, it's a great venue. I've seen Badfish, Eve 6, among others and it has always been a great place to see a show. Â Also, they usually have a great cover band (Big Shot, Peat Moss, etc.) that plays there as well.
They have one of the better happy hours I've seen on the island with 2 for 1 drinks and a pretty big selection of finger foods. Â The happy hour is worth the trip alone.
The only night I'm not a fan of is "Weeds" which I believe is on Monday nights? Mulcahy's becomes a full out club, which isn't a horrible thing if it wasn't for the crowd that it attracts. Â
If you're not a club guy, avoid Weeds and you should have a great time at this place.
Tip: If you're like me and usually drink Bud Light when you go out, their Bud Light is a lot more expensive then their other drinks. I think it's around $6 for a Bud Light and you can get higher quality beer (Blue Moon, for example) for around $4.
I went to see Social Distortion play on August 3 at this place and was very disappointed. The venue and or the promoter totally oversold the show making it disgustingly packed to the point that my friends and I couldn't stand even close to the stage without feeling like cattle. I've been to hundreds of shows and have always been able to stand comfortably and watch bands play without having people move (push and shove) nonstop throughout the entire performance. The majority of the people at the show were rude, annoying and obnoxious and seemed to have no awareness of how to handle themselves at a punk show ( yes there is a way to conduct yourself without being an asshole). The venue itself I'm sure is great as a bar but as a concert venue it is awful. Not to mention no speakers by the bar area so you cant even hear the show when you get pushed back there by lame ass fucking long islanders who are there just for fuck's sake and not to watch an amazing band like Social Distortion (who were awesome).
Review Source:Am I a traitor to Long Island because I hate this place so much?
Terrible music.
Loud, terrible music.
So loud that you can't even yell to the person next to you. Â
Crappy beer.
Seemingly underage crowd.
Some nights, they even enforce a dress code and a cover charge, yet they call themselves a "pub".
Could be a two-star place if your favorite cover band is playing, but that's a stretch.
I've seen some good shows at Mulcahy's, but I don't really like to come just for a night out with friends, mostly b/c it's always so crowded and the drinks can be pretty pricey. I also don't like have you HAVE to use coat check. But it usually turns into a fun time, so it's worth trying
Review Source:I went to this place with my boyfriend and a bunch of our friends. Â The music is too loud to talk plus it isn't that kind of environment. .
They had 3$ beers and shots until midnight. Â There are absolutely NO hats allowed or jackets with hoods so you have to use coat check and you have to pay which is a bit of a rip off. Â There is also a 5$ cover charge. Â
There were a ton of people there and the place was huge. Â It was more like a club then a pub. Â
Good place to go if your looking to meet people and dance up on people but not great when you have your partner there.
Overall I liked the place but I probably won't go back for a while.
It was decently crowded, but Mulcahy's is so big that you never have to feel anyone's sweaty body touch yours unless you want to. Â It has a huge dance floor and three bars around the perimeter -- translation: drinks ready from any angle while dancing the night away.
I also thought the Bart Simpson laser projection was a nice touch.
It's a hike from where I am on the island, but I thought it was worth it. Â I definitely had a good time.
Ohh Mulchay's.........
Its one of those places that you love to hate and hate to love. Â
We always wind up here at one point or another, but it is ALWAYS a good time...
Huge space. Â 3 very large bars. Â Tons of bartenders. Â Televisions throughout the place. Â DJ & Live music most nights of the week. Â Very large dance area. Â Security and bouncers. Â They also have a 4th bar, located outside - the outside has a very large space too - seating, standing, dancing, smoking etc. Â They also have speakers outside so you can hear the music from inside and they have televisions at the bar out there as well.
Every Friday they have happy hour from 3-8. Â They do 2 for 1 beers, and have a ton of food. Â They also have a live band and inbetween sets a dj. Admission is free until 7pm. Â After that its a ridiculous $10 cover to get in. Â
Saturday nights they have "dance party". Â A DJ spinning everything from rap, R&B, hip hop to pop, rock and house.
Monday nights during the summer they host "Out of the Weeds" party. Â $10 cover charge, unless you have a free admission pass. Â They give these out usually a month before the summer season starts, typically you can just ask the bartenders or bouncers for them and they will give you a bunch. Â These cards get you in free every Monday night for the entire summer.
The drinks are over priced and watered down most of the time and they NEVER do buybacks, however Mulchs is always a fun time to dance and hang out with friends - you will always run into someone you know at this place. Â
It is also located right at the Wantagh train station so you can take the train (Babylon line) directly here. Â If you drive, there are tons of spots to park in (train station parking lots). Â Just be careful, cops are ALWAYS in the area.
24 hours McDonalds across the street and a 24 hour diner opposite Mulchay's on Sunrise Highway (walking distance).
Bar / Club
I totally forgot about this place - mostly because I do not bother going there much anymore. Â
Mulcahy's has been a huge party spot for a long time. Â I remember it from back in the day when it was half the present size. Â
To me, the place just has too many people and I am not into crowds. Â Definitely a place to go watch the games or to listen to great tunes at night. Â They do get very good bands there.
Overall a fine enough place to grab a few beers but if you don't like mobs, go earlier in the night.
Parking around the area.
Want to sit with friends and talk? Â Want to watch sports? Â Want to listen to live music? Â Want to dance your ass off? Â Want to drink good drinks and flirt with good-lookin happy bartenders? Â Then go to Mulcahy's for happy hour and for weekend good times.
The front bar is for mingling mostly and watching sports. Â The back bars are for flirting and dancing. Â The dance floor is roomy and security is always nearby in case a bad bad dancer gets a bit too hands-on with everyone else. Â
The live music is mostly local bands who play their own stuff and some covers too--Pete Moss and The Fertilizers have made their home there for over ten years. Â A lot of tribute bands also play there--from Bon Jovi to Van Halen, they rock the casbah. Â
Drawbacks--the bathrooms get a bit heinous towards the wee hours; the cover which starts at 7 and then goes up at 9
