One of the best Irish places I've been to. So we were there in early April when it was still a little colder outside. When we asked to be seated outside I could tell the server was hesitant, but said it would be no problem. After sitting outside for a couple of minutes we knew it was a bad idea as it was cold and windy, but our server still did a great job.

The scoth eggs were very tasty as was pastry wrapped bangers. I would highly recommend. Prices were fair, service was great, and the food was amazing.

I took my boyfriend to Newport for a couple of days for his birthday.  We ate here several times.  Scotch eggs, the fries with corned beef, a steak and Guinness pie... what's NOT to love??  The atmosphere was great - there was a dining area for families, or a more bar-like area with darts and what not.  I was very impressed with this pub, for the food, the beer, the service, everything.  I can't wait to go back!

I love Irish Pubs.  I really do.  Nana's is no Kell's, but for a small Newport town, it does a pretty good job.

I didn't think I would be able to convince my friend to go, but we have an Irish friend that insisted we go when she discovered we would be here in Newport.  So.  We did.  Yay for me!

Our visit occurred on a Saturday night, and it looked like a lot of folks visiting for the weekend found it too as it was rather busy, but we were tabled quickly.

We both wanted to go traditional Irish with a Pie dish, so I ordered the shepherd's and the friend ordered the chicken pot pie.  Sadly, the waitress (call me old school....nothing wrong with the word waitress) returned with sad news.  They were out of shepherds pie.  It was 8:30 on a busy Saturday night....I understand.  However, it threw me for a loop, and the Smithwick's ale was kicking in so I panicked and ordered the reuben...no the cheesesteak....wait the reuben...ack!!!  I went with the cheesesteak.

The pies take 20 minutes.  Says it right on the menu, so no surprise.  My friend and I enjoyed lively conversation while we waited....people watched, enjoyed the blues band from the other room (disappointed in the lack of celtic music), and drank our spirits.

The food came.  My cheesesteak and fries were luke warm at best and cold to the touch in places.  I bet the cook didn't time it with the pie, and it sat waiting.  Fries were a bit soggy too.  The flavor was good though.  Just not hot and fresh.

My friend's pot pie?  OH MY!!  It was delicious!  I am happy we share.  The pastry on top was perfect for the chardonnay cream sauce used int he base.  Just amazing.

All in all a good experience.  We'll come back for sure.

This place has the best Reuben that I've ever had in my life. The corned beef is tender and the rye bread stayed crunchy (not saturated in sauerkraut juice). It was phenomenal. I'll be coming back for the Reuben.

I have to say this may be my second favorite, if not my favorite restaurant of all time. I don't know if it was because I was just that hungry, or if the altitude was messing with me (I'm from a valley) but their soda bread was really all I needed. Everything else just made the experience better. I got bangers and mash, and my boyfriend got steak and Guinness pie. We grabbed some beers and just enjoyed the ambience and the absolute massive amount of food provided to us. The bar is beautiful and it's really got some heritage to it. I hope someday I get back to this place. It was probably the most at home I felt 3000 miles away from home.

Love this place, good food, nice people. Some dishes take a little longer but they clearly state that on the menu. Would take a date, office staff or client and feel safe knowing you will be treated right and have great food.

I cannot say enough positive things about this place :) The atmosphere, the mind blowing food, the drinks, and the friendly staff...I go to Newport on a very frequent basis and typically hit up the Rogue, but they have new competition in my eyes...I will be back Nana's!

GREAT food, fun atmosphere. The food melts in your mouth it's that good. We were visiting from Portland and we eat out a lot in the city... This restaurant would be a HUGE hit there. GO!

Wonderful! We will come again for sure & will recommend to family & friends. The cod, banger sausages, shepherd's pie & cocktails were all great. Service was friendly & prompt. Noisy, crowded & fun!

yep.  you gotta love a place with scotch eggs on the menu.
and yes -- the atmosphere really is as close to a genuine pub as I've found this side of either ocean....
and you gotta check out their custom made bar -- it's gorgeous.

The beer batter fish and chips was a great meal, and the chowder is my favorite so far on the coast -- sometimes I feel like I'm eating my way up and down the Pacific coast looking for soup -- and this one is great.  Thick and creamy -- lots of delicious clams -- and lots of big chunks of potato.  Mmmm.

This is my kind of place -- cozy, friendly, good value for the money, and not a single complaint about the food or service.  Evidently there is live music from time to time -- though until the days get longer, I probably won't be coming back at night because of the long drive home.  So until summer -- they'll be seeing me for lunch or happy hour when I'm in town!!!  Can't wait to try the shepherd's pie -- and the corned beef and cabbage -- and the bangers and mash ---  the corned beef hash and eggs -- the Guiness steak pie -- the reuben sandwich....
you get the idea.  They have a new customer.

    Very happy customer.

*It should be pointed out that if you ask for a to-go box at the Pub, you get a recycled and recyclable carboard box -- in all other ways just like the nasty styrofoam boxes used by less conscienced places....  Hooray! Nana's!  (I added a pic of it....)

I'm always on the lookout for a good Reuben and Nana's has one. Its top notch.  My dining partner had the corn beef and cabbage lunch special and it got high marks from him as well. Great place to grab a Guinness and grub .

I've been to Nana's more than any other place in Newport. Not necessarily because it's my favorite place but because it's just the place to be. Knocking it down a notch, though, for a couple of reasons. One, it's really loud. Was there on a Friday night for dinner and literally couldn't speak to anyone at the table. If you're in the small room, by the bar, it is especially loud as there are quite a few people who go to Nana's to get drunk. I love it in the summertime on the patio but wintertime in the bar is a bit rowdy.

The wait service is always pretty good and I love the beer but the food isn't always great either. I've loved the fish and chips but this last time, the fish was dry and the breading was heavy and soggy. The french fries were still top notch, as was the homemade blue cheese dressing. The tartar sauce this time was sweet too but I know I've liked it in the past. So, not sure why the inconsistency but it's a bit of a bummer when the food isn't great.

Around lunchtime, we started searching for good spots to pull in and eat, and found Nana's in Newport --  just what we were looking for on a grey, rainy day.

Boyfriend had the chicken pot pie, which he let me try a bite of: chicken, peas, carrots, and corn in a puffy pastry shell with creamy sauce. I had the tuna melt (local tuna!), which was on rye bread, with a side salad. The salad was a nice one: mixed greens and some tasty vinaigrette.

Being an Irish pub, they had a big selection of beer and cider, but we didn't partake, since we were, you know, driving. :)

It has standard pub atmosphere, and friendly service - but it's the food that really pushes it from 3 to 4 stars. MUCH better than the usual pub food.

Recommended if you're driving down the coast and looking for a warm, comforty meal!

Went to Nana's for my first dinner in Newport and it was amazing! I had the meatloaf & my boyfriend had the Bangers & Mash, both were outstanding! Enough to eat a full meal and have leftovers for the next day's lunch. Great atmosphere, love the family-pub feel, I only wish we had been there when there was live music to enjoy!

The best fish and chips I've had in a long time!  It was cozy and warm on a cold rainy day.  A little too cozy... but everyone was nice so it worked.  Our server was prompt, the food was hot and good, and the clientele was diverse.  They had a wonderful Irish Whiskey/Scotch menu, so if you're a fan you'll find something special here.  Parking was on the street and there was a large outdoor patio, probably nice for a cigar or sunny day, it was pouring rain so we just ran through it!  I would definitely recommend Nana's.

Lousy service, we had 3 waitresses, none of which could get our orders right. The food turned out to be just as bad as the service. Too many other restaraunts in Newport to try before we'd even consider returning here.

Never been on a weekend as I am ususally just in town on business. Food is great and I'm a big fan of the pot pies. More than a few people reccomended the bread pudding (i was too full). Staff has always been friendly and quick to provide a great experience.

Also, the soda bread was heavenly.

Okay so I have never actually been to an Irish Pub in my life but I LOVED this one for a number of reasons.

    1. Amazing outdoor seating. You may not be able to see the ocean from here but you can definitely feel the breeze. It's a nice big space that looks over the street and all the little shops.
    2. The Food was devine! I had the Chicken Pot Pie with Irish soda bread and it was great! I've never tasted a pie anything like it!
    3. Desert was even better! I got the Traditional Irish Bread Pudding and I was in heaven. The whipped cream on the top was super cold and fresh (and also didn't have any sugar in it which I LOVE) and the bread pudding was hot, sweet and melted in my mouth. Ah so good.

I love this place so much that I know I'm taking my friends to it the next time I go to Newport.

Came in here around 10pm for a few late night drinks. I ordered a Strongbow which was on tap and delicious as usual. The bartender was very nice. She did everything from making and serving the drinks to waiting on the tables and serving the food (at that time of night. There probably is a server during normal dinner hours). She never missed a beat. We saw her make a delicious looking margarita with fresh squeezed lime juice for another couple and of course had to order one. It came in a ball mason jar and it was delicious. Odd thing to order at an Irish bar, but definitely worth ordering. There was a local live band playing some blues that was pretty good and the overall atmosphere was laid back. Easy parking out front of bar on the street.

Great traditional Irish pub with american choices for the pickier in the crowd.  I was impressed by the sausage rolls (served with mashed potatoes and peas just like the would in Ireland or the UK) and the soda bread was AMAZING.  The boyfriend opted for the philly cheesesteak and seemed to like it well enough.

What I was most impressed by was the inclusion of the really Irish drinks.  Not only do they have Guinness and and all the required Irish beers, but they also advertise snake bites and black and tans.  Great place with a nice big outdoor seating area.

A fun place to visit on a weekend night.

The Saturday night I was there they had a small group plying a kind of bluegrass mix.  I believe their name was Son of a Beach.  The music was a touch loud to to try and talk over but, I did not mind because the band was good.  There is a second room if you desire a quieter space.  There were also dart boards if you care to toss a few.

I had the chicken pot pie with puff pastry and it was very delicious.  I also enjoyed the Irish soda bread.  They have a full bar and lots of beers on tap.  They even had hard cider.  Yeah!

My husband and I went here and ordered 2 veggie "pot pies" at $12 each and I got a vodka and cran at $7.50... after just having a few TALL ones at the local pub at $3.50 each.  The pot pies were nearly inedible.. only a slight buzz and near starvation allowed us to finish half and then throw the rest out.  It was an EXTREMELY sweet "curried" vegetable mix under a layer of puff pastry.  I'm wondering if they TASTED those before they sold them?  Absolutely terrible.  Will not be back.

In the 18th Century, Nana's clan, hailing from County Cork, married into the influential Sysco family.  Since that magical union, Nana's people have been serving limpid, unfresh, precooked meals to road weary travelers the world over.

Sometimes they even give you something different than what you ordered as a lesson in fatalism and acceptance.

    Clever, that.

I continued my Yelp tour with Nana's today...  I went down to Newport after doing a little Christmas shopping at Mossy Creek Pottery (if you haven't checked it out--you need to).  Nana's is located in the historic Nye Beach area of Newport.

I stopped in to grab a properly poured pint of Guinness.  It was poured perfectly with a little shamrock design in on the top--love it...

I wasn't all that hungry so I ordered the Yaquina Bay deep fried oysters off the appetizer menu.  I have to say--this was a full meal.  They brought out 6-8 good size oysters with lemon and cocktail sauce.  Very good and the perfect amount of food to accompany a pint of Guinness...

I will be heading back to this place to try the Reuben.  The person next to me ordered it and it looked fantastic..

Wait staff was friendly.  No TVs--and I was looking to catch a little basketball--so that disappointed.  Fun Irish music playing in the background to make up for it...

We came for a casual dinner on a summer Saturday and it was amazing.  We had excellent food and excellent service. The Reuben and chicken pot pie were out of this world. The chocolate bread pudding was rich and not too sweet and enough dessert for three of us.

On our second trip to Newport two weeks later, we went to Nana's again.   I had the Shepherd's Pie and oh my heavens was it good.  Ditto for my hubby's corned beef and cabbage.  Never in my life did I dream that corned beef could taste that way.

Thank you, yelpers, for the recommendation. We will be back every time we visit Newport!

This is our 2nd time going to Newport and we stopped again at Nana's Irish. 1st time we tripped across it, and the 2nd time we planned on going there.

The food is always very good, no matter what you order.  However I am hooked on their Ruben as their corned beef is amazing.  I am a NY Jew, so I know Corned Beef, and granted it is not NY style, but still very good and worth it w/o a doubt.

My wife has tried a couple things there, the last time was the Sheppard's Pie.  The make it from scratch using sausage and not lamb as I am used to, but it was worth the 5 min extra wait.  It looked perfect coming out, and when you cracked the potato crust the smell of well cooked food and the steam bellowed out.  A lovely dish. My wife eats about 1/2 of everything she ordered, but she polished off this whole dish.

Their mixed drinks are very good, the Nutty Irishman is a favorite and we are trying to duplicate the same mix at home. Their beers are very good, always served with a smile.  If you possibly have room, their desserts are above and beyond.

We totally recommend going there, hanging out, sitting out front if the weather permits.

    We highly recommend Nana's Irish!

The only reason it got 4 and not 5 stars is that we feel it could be cleaned a little bit more.  There is a lot of food on the floors, napkins, stuff and we had to step all over crayons, which is odd since we sat next to the bar?

Regardless the food outweighs the tiny negative.

This was a fabulous find!  Thanks Yelp!

The family (husband's entire immediate with those who married in) was on vacation in Oregon for my mom in law's 60th birthday.  We'd been cooking at the rental house most of the week, but we went to visit that tallest lighthouse in Oregon and were all starving from the fresh ocean air and adventures in the tidepools.

Enter the yelp mobile app.  Just about a mile away was a highly rates irish pub.  Perfect for this family of british food lovers.

There was a lot of diversity across our table of 8 people, bangers & mash, ruben, scottish eggs, shepherds pie, fish and chips, irish breakfast, black and tans, strongbow, guinness, smithwicks.

And everyone was happy and very full.  This was the perfect find on a cool, misty day on the Oregon coast.  And the service was fantastic; upbeat and friendly. :)

Corned Beef every day? Herb-ed creme to dip, what??

We came in after lunch on our kid free vacation. I ordered a dirty gin martini and he ordered a vodka tonic. The drinks were great and the server was a total Betty. I asked for a menu, knowing we weren't going to eat just then, but I am nosy.

This menu is amazing. Every thing sounds delish. The isle chips caught my eye. Hand cut steak fries topped with corned beef, cheese, sour cream, onion, and OMG corned beef!!

So, next day, we lunch date with friends and we both order the isle chips to start. I order some magical potion they call soup. Susie ordered the phyllo dough covered baked brie (I will have that all to myself next time we go) with apples and crackers.

The food feels like it is made with down-home Irish love. For this just being a pub, I am impressed with the quality and quantity of food. Not your burger and chips fare. This place is a gem.

There are darts to play, and salty regulars to people watch, and cute waitresses.  A MUST DO place for lunch at Nye Beach.

I thought the live music was good! Until the musician stopped strumming and I still heard a guitar. Still sounded nice even though it wasn't acapela.
Food was amazing! I had the steamed oysters, the flavor and texture of the oysters were perfect. The cabbage soup helped warm me up and the salad was a salad, not much you can say about a salad.
My mom loved the cornbeef she had. She is all about the "homemade stuff".. "You can't find good cornbeef in Hawaii", she says. haha, well 4 stars for food, minus 1 for it taking a while to actually get to our table. But hey if it's made from scratch, maybe it deserves that star. Well let's consider this review a 4.5 star review :)

Who knew??? An Irish pub in a little beach town...very tasty.

Stopped in nye beach on our trip up the OR coast and we had a bad feeling that we would be wasting a meal.  This place looked cool and it had a fair amount of patrons so we gave it a whirl.

The people were very friendly and the food was really good.  We had the cheese fries which had a nice twist (corned beef) and we split our server's recommended beef and mushroom pie.  It was so flavorful.  The mushrooms were firm and spicy...I have no idea how they packed them with so much flavor and didn't turn them to mush.

    Goodtimes...

This place is really cute. We came in from out of town and stumbled upon it. The staff was friendly, but not really in a comforting way. You can tell this place is a local place with regulars. Still good though. Made me want to be a local.

We went around 11am. We ordered 2 fish and chips and 2 beers. It hit the spot. The fish and chips were so delicious.

The decor is cute too. Cute irish pub. Small place.

I recommend this place for lunch.

Packed.... Seafood and Wine Festival was in full tilt and this place was nutt to butt. The special was a Mahi Mahi Pot Pie. YUMMY.
Yes, i burned my mouth with the first bite like every other time I've eaten a pot pie. That sucked. The pie was wonderfully seasoned and the crust was perfectly flaky. Our group of 5 thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and stayed about 3 hours drinking. The service was exceptional and we will be back......

I have been to Nana's four times, I am in love with the Shepards pie and the fish in chips. The Shepards pie is nicely spiced with smashed red potatoes on top and a thick, velvity gravy. The fish was fresh and the batter was crisp and not overwhelming - some of the best I've had on the coast. The beers on tap are all Irish in origin (I think) and the staff very friendly. The Irish Soda Bread is very tender and a must.

The Sandwiches are also very good and its a good choice for lunch or dinner. There is music every Friday and Saturday nights which varies from pleasant to really good.

Both family friendly and plenty of dark corners.

Ugh, I was not impressed with this place at all.  I had considered ordering the Celtic Curry Veggie Pot Pie which came with a bunch of different veggies: parsnips, carrots, onions, mushrooms, corn, pinto beans, and garlic in a cream curry sauce.  Although I am not a huge fan of creamy sauces I was intrigued by the flaky pastry crust and what the curry sauce would taste like.  But, when I asked the waitress for specifics about the sauce she really didn't answer any of my questions.  In fact, she did not even sound positive that the sauce and dish was completely vegetarian.  When I asked her to give me a bit more information about the sauce she really couldn't provide any more information, not even what the base of the sauce was or whether or not it was more of a gravy or a cream.

So, I opted for the cheese plate and an egg salad.  My husband ordered the Shepard's Pie.  The cheese plate was interesting that is for sure.  My first thought was, if this is an Irish Pub, why are none of the cheese's from Ireland?  My next thought was, what on earth am I going to do with a plate full of cheese and only seven or eight Keebler Town House Crackers?  But, what really made me angry was the black hair that was in between two apple slices.  The waitress took the plate off my bill and was apologetic but, still, it was quite gross.

My husband had to send back his Sierra Mist as the cup tasted quite strongly like soap.  After the hairy cheese plate and the soapy Sierra Mist I canceled my order.  No way I was eating an egg salad at a place that had two cleanliness strikes against it.  But, my husband really enjoyed his Shepard's Pie, he had never had a Shepard's Pie before so he had no way to judge it against any other ones.  He enjoyed it though.

Anyway, I would personally never go back.  Along with the cleanliness issues, the service was slow and the waitress did not seem informed about the ingredients of food dishes.  Plus, it was fairly overpriced for the quality of the food.
