I've been to New Orleans a number of times and this place does not have the atmosphere equivalent to those in New Orleans. The food was pretty decent and the restaurant was clean. However, our waitress (I believe the owner) was very rude. She seemed as if serving us was an inconvenience and raised her voice at another patron. The man who made our food was so friendly though. We will probably only go back for takeout.
Review Source:I'm a fan of Nawlins Creole Cafe.
I loved the food, but found portions were on the small side. Â I left feeling like I had a good representation of New Orleans cuisine and wished I had a tad more though. Â This restaurant is family owned and spawned from a successful catering business. Â Mama Nawlins is always on site with someone in the back working their voodoo that they do, which I've found to be consistent each time.
The fried oyster, shrimp, and catfish are always good and lightly breaded with the right zing to take you back to the french quarter. Â I've also tried the shrimp po boy on a few occasions and found it to be very tasty as well.
Plenty of room to take the family or host a Mardi Gras party. Â I recommend the sampler platter so you can decide how adventurous you want to be. Â Menu is kid friendly.
They also offer Seafood Saturdays and from time to time, they offer all you can eat Catfish. Â I would place them as good contenders with the contemporary Yatz or even the "new comer" Mud Bugs (Carmel), if you are familiar with these other cajun-style places.
We did enjoy the food here.
I had a shrimp Po' Boy and it was very good. Â The portions are a little small. Â The really bad thing was that is was their crawfish boil day so most of the things on the menu weren't available to order. Â I guess this is because of the crawfish boil. Â The Mom of the place was pretty rude and opinionated. Â The son, however, was a charming guy. Â He was very nice and gave us some of the potatoes and other items to try from the crawfish boil. Â We will go back sometime, I am sure.
Deserves bragging rights for the BEST and most authentic Cajun cuisine in the Indy area!  My husband is a New Orleans native and we have dined at many area eateries that call themselves "authentic" Cajun but are in reality "diluted." This eatery orders all their bread AND seafood from New Orleans and the red beans ARE in fact red beans not kidney beans being called red neans. Owners ( mother and son) are always on the premises and are very friendly and genuinely interested in pleasing their customers. We have tried a variety of dishes and have yet to be disappointed. The Dump Cake is to die for!! Servings are plentiful and reasonably priced. Emphasis is on food rather than ambience  which is how it ought to be if one must make a choice. Service is usually quick. Go!!!!!!!
Review Source:The food was good, but the portions were small and service was terrible. Â It helps if your staff can pronounce the name of your establishment correctly. Â Go for the food (takeout), but don't expect anything from the atmosphere. This location must have previously been a coffee house. Â The only thing that would remind someone of New Orleans are a few posters purchased off the Internet.
Review Source:Had a chance to try this place this past weekend (Feb 13th) and wow what a great place to eat. Â The food was served in a timely manner and came out how and had incredible flavor. Â My dad had the special of the night and I had the Shrimp Ettouffe. Â We both had a bowl of the clam soup and it was great. Â The owners are there and make sure everything goes well. Â The place is very well priced and worth the drive and the price. Â If you like cajun food you will love this place.
