Walked into Notch 8 on a Saturday afternoon. Missed the lunch crowd, so it was easy to find a spot on the deck. My wife and I each had a couple of beers and an appetizer. The service was friendly. The beer that I wanted was tapped out, but our waitress gave us some suggestions (and samples) to alternate brews and we were happy with that. As for the food, my order of o rings was enormous and excellent. That smooth, crunchy beer batter, rather than breading. On the other end of the spectrum, my wife's order of guacamole came in a small condiment cup and left her with a lot of un-guaced chips (tasty as the chips were) and that was a bummer. Still we will be back for a real meal in the future.
Review Source:Like advertised they have a great beer selection. It ends there. The menu is nothing special. Â We ordered and waited and waited and waited. We watched another couple leave (without eating) who had been waiting over an hour for their food. Â Considering that other reviews mention how slow the service is, they REALLY need to do something about this. Â Actually the service was fine, it was the food that took way too long. Â My burger was a hockey puck with very little flavor. My husband's burger was a little better, probably because he ordered the buffalo. We won't go back.
Review Source:i had been hearing about this place for a while, everybody kept telling me about the beer selection. Â so i finally went in the other night and it is awesome! the food is great, i would have to say its the best burger i have had in McCall! Â the beer selection is huge and always changing according to the waitress. Â you even have the option to keep the glass your beer comes in if you want to, i did. Â
i will return here and reccomend it to anybody that asks for a good place to get a beer and a burger.
We rolled into McCall at 8:00ish  on a Thursday  looking to ski the next day at Brundage. We drove up from Boise and didn't stop for food before leaving town, there is really nothing to eat besides Subway between Boise & McCall. Well, there probably is but I was looking for quick & easy while in the car and that appeared to only be Subway. Notch 8 was recommended to us by the hotel clerk because they have huge selection of beer, we were tired and not really wanting put in any effort to find food, plus they seemed to be the only place open. Â
We walked in and the sign says "open until closed" which is on the vague side, well it seems closed or at least the grill is open to about or around 9pm. We were lucky that we just slipped in past the closed mark and ordered a beer and some burgers. The bar itself is in a great old building, it looked to be an old railroad station. It was dark out so we were not able to check out what the outside surroundings looked like but the interior was cool with multicolored wood planks. The burgers were good, they had a homemade feeling to them, we weren't asked how we wanted them, so I assume that they all come out medium to well done, which is okay with me, I don't like me meat bleeding. The fries were good and the beer selection was extensive with 50 different beers on tap. Once again one of those places that has so many options that I am overwhelmed and unable to make up my mind. Our waitress advised that all of their salmon dishes were great, they smoke all of the salmon in house. Service was great, it was a quiet night with maybe 10 patrons in all, there was only 1 server, I'm not sure if this was due to the time of night.
Being that this was my first trip to McCall I am excited to come back to the area for further snow adventures and some summertime hiking as well. I also wouldn't be opposed to stopping back by Notch 8 again as well.
My wife and I are twice a year McCall regulars. Â Notch 8 is a welcome addition to our trip. Â
3.5 star service: Â Our waitress was not fast, but no one is here in McCall. Â She was also not obscenely slow. Â She answered our questions effectively and obviously knew their beer selections well. Â She also checked on how we liked our food, which seems like a lost art in this town sometimes.
Decor is pleasent and way ahead of the curve for a reasonably priced restaurant in McCall.
5 star beer selection: Easily the best in the area. Â They have a great varity of local and not so local brews. Â All are priced by the pint and pitcher and have the brewery and alcohol content listed on the menu. Â Prices for the beers were very reasonable and we will return here for beers in the future.
3 star food: Â We both had burgers, a plain burger (lettuce tomato onion) for my wife and bacon avo burger for me. Â Tempertures were not taken for the burgers and they were prepared med-well which is just fine. Â The beef is Snake River Farms Kobe style beef which is very flavorful but the pattys were VERY underseasoned as was the bacon on my burger. Â They were descent the way they were but not memorable. Â The fries were seasoned steak fry style. Â Crispy and golden brown, tasty with fry sauce. Â My salad was a nice mix of greens with tomatos and mushroom. Â Fresh simple and with dressing on the side.
Overall, pretty happy. Â We'll come back when we want a good beer and if we're hungry we'll eat. Â If they find some more salt and get a little faster it could be a go to spot for more than just good beer.
Great beer selection but mediocre menu. Under staffed and restaurant is too loud. Waited 15+ minute for s drink while waiting for a table; getting dinner took another hour plus.
Having been very familiar with the other businesses that have come and left that building they did well on the "face lift". As a McCall vacation home owner and restaurant frequenter I hope they work on the food and customer service.
