Did not expect much, but was pleasantly surprised! Sure the place is a little run down, and the bartender forgot about us a few times, but the mahi mahi tacos were surprisingly fresh and delicious! The basil chicken plate was pretty tasty and the side salad had some nice mixed greens and veggies. Happy hour prices are good and the drinks were stiff! Free popcorn!Would definitely stop in again. Stay hungry & thirsty my friends!
Review Source:I'd give negative stars if I could. Service was non-existent--despite an empty restaurant it took some time to get seated and then another 15-20 minutes for someone to take our order. We got our drinks, some warm but sour-tasting bread. We left after waiting 40 minutes for our food and left money for the drinks. Don't waste your time.
Review Source:The food was good, the service was not. We were there for an early dinner, so the place was not crowded. The hostess was helping a large party decide how to configure their table and asked us to wait. It took a very long time. We were seated on the patio, which was a very nice little spot. However, our table was dirty! The hostess said she'd have someone come and wipe it off, but she did not. When the server finally came she had someone take care of it. The service was slow and not very attentive.
On the other hand, the food was great. Lots of options and good choices for sides, not just fries! I had the Notti burger and it was excellent. They also had good happy hour prices.
drove to Big Bear for brunch had planned on another place but they have closed down since the last time we were up there. Called one resort on the lake to see if they had a restaurant and she recommended Nottinghams. I called and was happy to know they had a full bar Birthday celebration for me :)...got a table on the patio nice weather, nice breeze, good food.. Enjoyed the mimosa and my friend enjoyed a bloody mary. Food was good, and the waitress even brought over a slice of cheesecake with a candle for my birthday. This was only cause one of the friends said let the Birthday girl order first. Would def go back
Review Source:My husband and I got married here on 4/26/13. Everything turned out so much better than I could have imagined. There were a few hiccups, of course, but for the most part everything was perfect!!
The Bad:
We got married on a Friday morning, which saved us a ton of money. Only a few hiccups related to that. First was having our rehearsal the night before was a little difficult since there is a club that meets here on Thursday nights. But we got it done and taken care of. And then we had to be done w/the reception by 3pm since the bar opens up. I would think that since we're spending so much money they could hold off on opening the bar until we're done (wouldn't mind if they charged for the extra time). That way we're not rushed. But that didn't seem to be an option.
Other bad thing, they cleaned up and packaged things we'd used in the wedding (cake topper, cupcake stands, etc), but not everything was put back in the boxes we'd left. So our cake topper broke. Which really sucked b/c it was bobble heads of us, and my face was broken off. Luckily it broke around the hair line so I glued my face back in, and you can barely tell. But for the money I spent on it, I was a little upset (plus, my face broke off...that sucks to see).
The Good:
The room was the perfect shape and size. Everyone fit pretty comfortably. Although, we had 70 people in there, and I wouldn't recommend trying to squeeze too much more than that. The furniture was such good quality, not that normal cheap stuff you get if you rent. The table clothes were actually clean, some places used stained ones but Nottingham's did not. The crew setting up the room was super fast, and helpful. They helped get things decorated the night before, and right before the event. Anytime anyone asked for anything the wait staff was quick to respond. We did a sandwich buffet lunch, and everyone LOVED the food. I still get people complementing us about it.
The drinks here are pretty cheap, too. I was surprised by how inexpensive even the nicer boozes were. And they make good drinks, too...nice and strong. And the bartender was good at making recommendations.
I'm forgetting one of the most important things...the view. It is spectacular! The stage area is set up in the front of the room, with large windows that look out to the lake. And out the side windows are great views of the mountains. It made walking down the aisle double awesome, handsome man waiting for me and a beautiful view.
The Next Day:
The next day we went and had brunch w/wedding party/family. It was AMAZING!! After a night of partying, it was what we all needed. Great selection, and everything was great. We were eating off each others plates b/c it was all so good. And for $110 we fed like 7 or 8 people. I was pleasantly surprised by that. It was nice, too, that the staff recognized us and kept congratulating us and complimenting how nice everything looked.
When we went to pay off the remainder of everything and were surprised that it wasn't that much. I had high balled my figures, so we were happy w/the price. And all of our stuff that they told us to leave was packed up (not that well, but still), which made our job of clearing out the room SUPER easy.
I highly recommend this place for everything. From simply getting a drink, to having a wedding here...they will satisfy all your needs, and you'll be happy you chose Nottingham's. We'll definitely be coming back up here during snowboarding season and look forward to hanging out by the fire while having a great dinner and couple of drinks.
So, it was a nice evening and I used my handy dandy Yelp account to find us a place to go for dinner. Lo' and behold, I found this place. It's definitely a gem, however, I didn't particularly like the staff. It took us a long while to be sat down, our waitress was a joke (couldn't even get a drink to the table or keep it refilled, a busser did both of those things for me), and although everyone was friendly, it was as if my boyfriend and I were the only ones not receiving great service! Well, I guess the tip showed her that.
But, anyways, he got the Poncho Poncho burger and I got the flat iron steak. Let me tell you, the price definitely matched the quality and quantity. It was amazing. I was glad that we suffered through a lousy waitress because the food was on point.
All totaled up to $44 for two people, which wasnt bad. I will definitely come here again next time we're in the area.
Two stars for 2 chicken tenders...I came here with my friends and ordered the chicken tender meal and it came with TWO TENDERS!! I asked the server and she said that is how the meal is supposed to come...I think that is ridiculous! If I weren't for me ordering an appetizer, I would have walked out still hungry. Â OH and the server would drop our stuff off and runaway, like she was scared of a large party. Â With a party of 12 of us there should have been 2 servers at our table. Won't return to this place.

The wife & I were starving after unloading our gear at the cabin...we decided to Yelp a few local places & after pre-cocktails at Big Bear Mtn. Brewery, we agreed on Nottinghams.
Upon our arrival the downstairs bar area was booming with customers & dining room seemed full as well.
We decided to head up the staircase to the second level & found ourselves in what looked to be a nice looking tavern. It too seemed to be bustling w/only a couple of unoccupied family sized tables. The wife spied a couple empty stools at the bar & we sat.
We were immediately greeted with a smile. Not much of a draught menu but Nottinghams did have Shipwreck's XPA. So glad they did because it was cold & it was tasty. http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
We ordered a Notti Burger (avocado, cheddar & bacon) & fries to share. I like blue cheese to dip my fries in & the wife likes ranch - 1000 Island to liven up her burger...all of which we requested. The burger came out promptly & it was nice of the bartender to request the kitchen to split the burger in two & divide the fries unto two plates. Nicely done Mr. Bartender, nicely done. However, our dipping sides were missing. Mr. Bartender noticed & requested it from a passing server. 3 minutes later the server shows up with two garden salads, one with Ranch & 1000 Island Dressing the other with Blue Cheese. I chuckled as the bartender was handed the two salads & he looked confused, realizing it was our order (sans salads). He placed both salads respectively in front of us & said, "bon appétit, these are on the house." Instead of chewing out the server (I did hear the bartender say "sides of dressing") he played it classy. Not missing a beat, he saw my beer was getting low as well as my wife's glass of wine & gave me that "would you like another?" look. I nodded & w/out hesitation both drinks were well on their way.
The burger was above par & better than most places. The fries were slightly crispy & seasoned perfectly even w/out the sides of dressing.
NOTE: we brought the family here for lunch after their arrival the following day.
2 burgers, a chicken cobb sandwich, zucchini sticks, buffalo wings, a child's burger (as large as an adult burger), Denver omelet & children's pancakes (breakfast served everyday till 3 p.m.) took a little longer than expected, but no one complained.
I can tell you that Nottinghams may not be that 5 star a restaurant everyone is looking for, but it is family friendly & the food here is a B+ in my opinion. After all was said & done, most everything on our table was demolished, even the niece's mouse head shaped pancakes didn't stand a chance. There wasn't much for the "doggie bag" but the children's 1/2 burger & 1/2 of Shaun's Cobb sandwich.
This will always be a definite stop during our visits to Big Bear.
May your hunger always be satisfied & your thirst always quenched. deez® out.
I dined downstairs with my husband on a busy Sat night. The service was great and the food was delicious and well priced. I had the Chicken with lemon caper sauce and yummy garlic mashed potatoes. The portion size was very generous and the chicken was cooked to perfection! We'll definitely be back next time we're up on the mountain!
Review Source:The upstairs of Nottinghams is a fun little tavern with a locals bar vibe. Beer selection is small but solid; both times I went they had ridiculously cheap pitchers of Shipwrecked DIPA. Last night there was live music, which made it even more fun. Employees are all super friendly.
I'm surprised to read some of these food comments because this is some of the more solid food I've had in Big Bear. I've ordered the Nottie Burger and a pork sandwich and was very pleased with the taste and price point of both (~$10 each).
Looks can be deceiving. Â A very nice building and well decorated. Â I thought I was going into one of towns nicer restaurants but l was disappointed. Â The quality of the food was barely average, the server was amateur at best. Â The worst was when they seated a family with two noisy children in their formal dining area next to my table instead in their more casual dining rooms. Â For the money paid I was let down.
Review Source:The upstairs portion of Nottingham's has a woodsy, sports bar type feel with a dart board, jukebox, and table shuffleboard, but is family friendly at the same time. Â The crowd is mixed from people celebrating birthdays to locals there to grab a few brews to families up for a ski weekend. Â The service is a bit slow and the food is adequate and slightly overpriced. Â Basically, pretty standard for Big Bear Village.
Review Source:The only thing good about this place are the 360 views of the town and the beer - because with the beer you at least are getting what you paid for. Â We came in a few weeks back and waited in the lobby one Sunday for lunch and waited, waited, waited, for 10 minutes and no service. Â There were 4 or 5 servers who walked right by us and didn't say a word yet there were all sorts of folks out back. Â We ended up leaving and just going to Murray's.
The bar is OK. Â The beer i good but the mixed drinks are AWFUL. Â My mom and wife both ordered vodka and cranberry and it was literally ALL cranberry juice. Â We're not looking to get ripped but a little kick would be appreciated. Â The food is OK with slow service; nothing special, simple American food.
The bartender is a little weird too. Â The guy who works the afternoons upstairs has a weird sense of humor and really makes you feel awkward or like you're inconveniencing him.
Overall it's just an OK establishment and we'll probably only ever go there if everything else is closed.
I was staying at the Robinhood with my boyfriend, so we decided to try the restaurant. When we walked in, the place was a ghost town. This kinda worried me, but we went upstairs to eat. It was delicious!!! All of it, no complaints. We both got hamburgers, and they had a great beer selection. They stop serving food early, so get there early during the week! I saw them turn away like ten people; thought that was bad business considering it was only 7pm. A great stop when you trek up to the mountains!
Review Source:HORRIBLE service and over priced food!!! Will NEVER come here again!! Owner was very unprofessional and they totally ripped us off on the bill and instead of fixing it they brought us 2 pieces of pie and 15 spoons and said it was a peace offering!! Are you kidding me???
15 people sat there and passed the pie around to get one bite each! That was suppose to make us feel better after they charged an extra $8 for each soup when they initially said its included with our meal. Its too bad some people just don't know how to run a business.
Came here and wanted to order from the happier hour menu, but was told it was a "misprint". Â Wouldn't honor the prices on their printed menu. Â Manager told us he informed the owner of the misprint. Â But when I asked to speak to the owner , the manager said "No". Â Interesting experience, just waiting to see if the food is any good.
Food was good but manager was pathetic, poor customer service. Â Took 45 minutes to get our food but at least it good
Sign at the door said seat yourself upstairs. After 15 minutes of waitning in a long line for a host/hostess, we opted to go upstairs. Big mistake? Said the server would be Right with you, waitied another 10 minutes. Server came took drink order, brought back half and said everything was downstairs so they would be back with the other half. appetizer and soups were good when they showed up 30 minutes later . Another 30 minutes after finishing our appetizers our COLD burgers and onion rings came. Â They might have been delicious served hot. Idid not complain just wanted out. Noisy and chaotic. Not well thought out . Customers and staff kept pushing my chair to get to another table rather than walk around. How rude is that. Not sure how anyone could grade this place high in customer service. It takes more than a friendly staff. it takes customer service. this place doesn't have it.
Review Source:My wife and I went here for Thanksgiving dinner after looking at a few other options in town. Nottingham's was in the middle of the road between traditional and non-traditional Thanksgiving options.
Although the service was very slow at first, the food was great when it came out. I wasn't particularly impressed with the quality considering the price, but I have no complaints. It was all very good, just not amazing or anything.
Breakfast is my favorite meal. If one judges the quality of food by the potatoes / hash browns they serve, this place would fail. The breakfast potatoes tasted musty. Ask to sit on the patio If the weather is nice. Service was nothing spectacular had to ask for someone to take our order and the place only had three other tables occupied. Â For breakfast try another place.
Review Source:We stopped in for breakfast; no one was there, but we still had to wait to be seated. Â The food was good, but the service was not so good. Â For quite a while we were the only customers in the place and we had to wait for everything. Â Our coffee cups ran dry over and over again. Â It took so long to serve us our breakfast that my french toast was cold - I didn't send it back to be rewarmed because I didn't want to wait another 15 minutes for it to return. Â The portion sizes are small and overall the breakfast didn't seem like a good value. Â The wood and stained glass in the restaurant are gorgeous as is the rest of the decor. Â Very warm feeling - nice atmosphere.
Review Source:It's been a while since I dined here so I can't be too descriptive. But after a long day of snow boarding and at the point of starvation I can remember that the food was sub-par. I ordered the filet with blue cheese on top and the steak was over cooked and freezer burned. They use the single prepackaged frozen steaks and it was well past it's expiration.
I will not be back!
5 stars for service, this places all about customer service!
We love it since they allow furry friends on the patio.
The food is not the the greatest, but it is good!
The manager said the owner is thinking about not allowing pets on the patio, if that happens I'm sad to say we will not be going back.
Hopefully the owner reads yelp reviews!
We came in for dinner, and got seated in an empty room, by the owner, "Paddlewheel" Pat, so we could have a romantic and quiet dinner. He was so nice. However, as soon as we were greeted by our very nice waitress, the room was quickly filling up with -quite loud- elderly people.
Anyway, we were given warm bread rolls and butter, a beer and the diva martini. Both were good. We ordered the lobster bisque, which was yummy and full of chunky lobster pieces. I ordered the chicken supreme sans mushrooms, with the garlic mashed potatoes, and it was divine. The veggies were well cooked, the potatoes were tasty, and the chicken was savory. My boyfriend got the steak special, with the same sides. It was topped with minced garlic. He said it was great.
The only downsides to the evenings were: 1) flying mosquitoes EVERYWHERE, and 2) three old men who would NOT stop staring at me, even though my boyfriend kept mad-dogging them. Funny, yet obnoxious.
Great place! My husband and I were up there on a Tuesday and wanted a nice anniversary dinner. We decided on Nottinghams and I am glad we did.
First of all, it was DEAD!...So we LOVED IT! HA!
We sat in the dining room with the fireplace. The waitress was very sweet and very attentive, we never felt like we were ignored.
We got the garlic bread, mini mushrooms, french onion soup, hubby got the basil chicken and I got the salmon salad. Everything was very tasty and we really enjoyed it there. It's not crazy gourmet , but good food.
We had our own bottle of wine, $10 corkage fee.
I would definitely come here again.
Pretty good for a remote location. We didn't expect too much based on the windy drive up, but were pleasantly surprised.
We came during the off season so it was almost empty, but we were rewarded with personal and professional service. Midweek offers prime rib, but only medium well or higher, so we didn't try that.
My flank steak was cooked medium rare perfectly, though it was sliced a little early. The wife's filet was medium and tender. Bother were served with the same sautéed vegetables and options of sides. The vegetables were crisp, but under seasoned. The baked potato and mashed potatoes were good.
They provide an ok selection of wines by the glass or bottle at a range of prices (~$15-$50). We got a mid-priced Cab that was decent at first and opened up well. It wasn't the year listed on the menu, but there is small print that states due to quantity, the years are subject to availability.
The creme brûlée was good.
Overall, it was a good dinner at a decent price. With a bottle of wine, desert and tip, we spent right around $100 for two people.
We ate here a couple times since we stayed at the adjacent Robin Hood. Â Surprisingly, it was pretty good.
We had some escargot at dinner. Â It was a nice 80's throwback appetizer. Â My wife had the prime rib which was well cooked and seasoned. Â I had the veal picatta which was also good.
For breakfast the next morning, we tried the crab cake benedict and the waffle combo. Â I really enjoyed the chicken habanero sausage on the combo. Â The eggs were cooked perfectly on both plates.
Prices are reasonable and the service was attentive.
I have never given a one star rating to anything on Yelp before, but this place was HORRIBLE.... BAD service, BAD food, just overall BAD experience.
We ordered steak and it came out COLD... how is that even possible?! Every drink we ordered wasn't in stock and when we asked for a recommendation, the waitress had no idea what any of the drinks were, let alone the specials... I mean we asked for a Port and she brought out sparkling wine... seriously?!
Also, the entrees were EXTREMELY overpriced for the quality and taste... overall, a horrible dining experience. We got a better meal at the Denney's down the street the next day... now that's really saying something!
Epic fail.
My friends, a large group of 14, and I came in on Saturday night with reservations. They sat us upstairs despite the fact that we had a birthday in the party and were looking to have a nice dinner in a more formal setting as opposed to a bar one.
They took our drink orders immediately and the server was nice, at least initially. I did like that they poured me a large glass of pineapple juice, not a very common service, but that was the only thing I liked about Not's. The menus they gave us were apparently not as extensive as the full menu downstairs, and it was difficult to find anything I wanted, since I'm not really into bar food in general.
I ordered crab cakes and they were awful. We knew there were only going to be two, but I made the false assumption that they were going to be larger than a dealer button. They also tasted like nothing, as in no crab flavor whatsoever.
My buddy and I got the forest burger which came with swiss and mushrooms. The burger was overcooked, tough and chewy. It also tasted like it had been sitting around awhile. What was even worse is that it took an hour and a half to get very basic dishes out, the most complicated dish was the ravioli. My other friend's tri-tip was simply pathetic, not larger than a hand, and definitely looked unappetizing.
The server refused to acknowledge that anything had gone wrong, and only asked if they came out with drinks frequently enough. They claim there were no tables downstairs although another party of 15 was seated downstairs as we were leaving. We walked into Sherwood Forest and got robbed. Go figure.
LOVE THIS PLACE!
We were here over New Year's 2011 and ate here on the first day, and the food was excellent! Â Their artichoke benedict is delicious! Â
On the last day, we tried to go to Boo Bear's for lunch, and we were treated so poorly before we even sat down, that we left and went back to Nottingham's!! Â Again, great food and wonderful service!
I even bought a T-shirt!
We will be back here every time we visit Big Bear!
Wish I could give a negative star rating...
First visit to Big Bear and did some research on good places for happy hour... Yelp had some good reviews and after checking out the menu on the website, we gave it a try. Huge mistake!!
Arrived at around 5:30 looking forward to the fish n chips listed on the HH menu. Went upstairs to the pub only to be told that they weren't doing happy hour this week! Â WTF?!?!
Okay, we're already there and hungry so we order off the dinner menu. Apparently, this place was disorganized. My dinner salad came at the same time as my entree. And yes, I've saved the "best" for last... Â My husband's salad had a long, blonde hair entangled throughout! Â Unbelievable! Â Stay far, far away from this place. Nasty, dirty, disorganized... What more can I say???
More like 3.5 stars...
I was staying at the Robinhood Resort, so I decided to drag my butt to Nottingham's for the 10% guest discount and cheap happy hour. Â I ordered potato skins/green salad; they weren't the most incredible dish i've ever eaten in life but the skins were piping hot with just the right amount of cheese/bacon (NOM.), so no complaints here. Â The staff is also ridiculously friendly and kept my drinks/water filled for the night.
The restaurant has several formal dining areas, which are typical Big Bear lodge type restaurants... Older looking.... comfy seating... etc. Â I liked that it had a fun bar area as well that made Sunday Night Football available on MULTIPLE TV's... SCORE.
Pros:
-Cheap Happy Hour Food/Drinks
-REALLY nice staff
-FOOTBALL
-Popcorn machine in the bar!!!
Cons:
-Very limited menu during happy hour
-Staff can get food orders mixed up frequently
Tips:
-HAPPY HOUR IS A MUST
