Fun place to stop in for a quick, delicious meal. I had the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries & dad had a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. Good food with decent prices. Wait staff was maybe a little slow, but it was a busy Sunday when we stopped by. No complaints. I'll definitely be going back if I am ever driving through again.
Review Source:Fun little place in Summerland to eat and/or drink. Stopped in on an afternoon bike ride and had the pulled pork sandwich. You could tell everything was made in house but stand out flavors were not present. I still enjoyed the meal and you cant beat the price for the area. Service was very good, The owner and ladies at the bar were very nice and engaging which is always a plus. When I am in the area with friends...this is where we will be going. Great atmosphere, good food, excellent service. Recommended!
Review Source:Any place that you can drink beer with animal heads on the wall looking at you gets an automatic 3 starts from me.
We didn't eat here, only stopping in for a beer, so I can't rate the food. It was early afternoon, so the place was pretty quiet. The bartender was friendly and knowledgable and there were definitely quite a few regulars there, which I love in a bar.
I'd like to go back and try their food sometime.
Ain't nothing wrong here.
Service is great, very friendly.
Nice burger menu and you can substitute a chicken breast or veggie patty if you wish.
I keep wanting to try the beef stroganoff or meatloaf but I haven't had my fill of their burgers yet.
Kinda dark, lodge type decor with animal heads on the wall.
I love Summerland and this place is one of the reasons.
You won't find ANYWHERE like this place. Thats where the five stars are. Friendly staff. If you're down on your luck, and you're looking for an insta-family, come to this place. Order the house IPA and a crunch burger, you wont be diappointed. If you're a Mchealthy vegan-freak, foo foo, fancy pants, just stay the hell away from this quirky little gem. Embrace one of the dinosaur greasy spoons for it is: A great place to drink amazing cocktails and eat generally crap food (they offer fish and salads for you freaking health nuts, so calm down) but otherwise it's just a special place suspended in a place and time that's beginning to be forgotten. It's wonderful. Come in with that attitude, and you'll have a great experience here. They specialize in character and charm!
Review Source:The Nugget was awesome until it came under new ownership a few years ago.
The Goldminers Basic with cheese was one of the best burgers in town - it definitely had character just like the Nugget of old. Â
The place has been cleaned up and given a facelift but definitely not in a good way.  The character is gone - now its just another "burger joint"
This place is just ok in my opinion. Â The service is good and the food is good but it's nothing to write home about. Â I also think this place is overpriced for the quality of food, the service you get, and the ambiance. Â I would recommend other places for lunch or dinner. Â This place used to be excellent and it's sorta just gotten to that mediocre status. Â Every so often I try this place in hopes that it's gotten better and even just last week after I got my bill I thought, "Why did I just eat here?" Â
If looking for a burger, my first choice is Padaro Beach Grill on Santa Claus Lane follwed by Tinkers and then Stackey's. Â If you want a place to grab a beer and have some food, I would recommend the Brewhouse in Santa Barbara or the SB Brewing Company. Â If you want to grab a steak, I suggest Tee-Off. (Note: Â Tee-Off totally looks like a dive but it's a hidden gem.) Â If you want something like a sandwich or salad I would recommend Cafe Luna, Summerland Beach Cafe, Stackey's or Garden Market (on Santa Claus Lane) Bottom line, there are many choices in Summerland and this wouldn't be a place I first recommend. Â There are other places in this town that have better food and better value.
Stacky's across the street was closed but now I'm glad because my mom and I had a chance to try this awesome place.
As soon as we walked in someone greeted us and we automatically felt welcome.
The decor was over the top with bright lights and animal heads on the wall. Even though there is a bar in the main room this place gives off a family vibe to me. Very comfortable, very happy atmosphere.
On a Saturday night the place was packed but we were still seated after hardly any wait. We were seated next to the kitchen so we got to watch the chefs prepare the food. I always get a kick out of this, I don't know why.
I heard the burgers were great so that's what I ordered with fries. My mom ordered the petty melt- both were out of this world amazing! My burger had so much crunch and flavor to it and the fries were pretty good as well. As far as the staff goes- when you're there you're their friend and they are so nice and welcoming. We will continue to dine here.
Since moving away from Santa Barbara back in October of 2010, this is the place I think about and miss the most. There's nowhere else quite like it anywhere. The atmosphere is very comforting and ideal for anyone into rustic nostalgia. The photos and artifacts reveal a lot of local history. Plus, Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan both went there back in the day and you can even sit in the special presidential booth.
The food here is excellent and much better quality than what one might expect. My wife and I absolutely adore the Salmon Crunch Burger which is made with a big slab of fresh, wild salmon. A little pricey but well worth it for what you get. The Nugget's signature drink, The Bloody Caesar, is an unparalleled cocktail for anyone who doesn't mind clamato and enjoys a peppery kick. The staff is cool; especially bartender/server Rick.
Ah, the Naughty Nugget. Â This (in)famous local establishment pulls off the family restaurant/dive bar vibe better than any place I know. Â It's where the rich folk go for a steak and a bottle of wine that's half the price than at Lucky's or Sly's, and with none of the pretension. Â And I mean none. Â In my early days of coming here, I naively asked whether the salmon was wild. Â To which the ruffled young waiter, with a deranged grin, replied: "It's fresh, it's wild, and it's comin' atcha!" Â How could I resist? Â (The salmon was excellent.)
Review Source:My dad wanted to go here because the last time he'd been the place was apparently just a hole in the wall that served a couple kinds of burgers. We were both really pleased with what we got at The Nugget -- I got the fish and chips and he got some sort of calamari dish. Not overpriced, impeccable service, and you get the awesome ambiance for free. Gonna dine here more often.
Review Source:Captain Jack's Wine Tour dropped us here for lunch. When you think wine tasting tours, you don't usually associate it with dead animals hung on the walls. Â WTF are you thinking Jack?
As for the food, sandwiches and burgers seem to be the popular choice in the $10-12 range. My beef stroganoff was not impressive, boyfriend can make it better. Sauce was a bit chunky like the cream wasn't blended in completely. Would not be returning.
I frequently visit friends in town and as with any human beings, we get hungry quite often. If we aren't in the mood for venturing a few miles north to the over crowded scene of Santa Barbara then we head to The Nugget. It seems to be an old establishment with quite the gang of memoribilia covering the walls. One of my friends told me that former President Clinton has eaten here, thats a plus.
The fish and chips are delicious for what this place is, I mean, not being a seafood restaurant. My buddies all dig on the burgers and salads, which they say are all quite tasty. The list of beers on tap is not anything to write home about. Do yourself a favor and skip the Budweiser and get an Island Blonde.
To top it off, this place is within walking distance of my friends house. That means we can get tanked and not have to worry about driving :)
Very delicious but very $$. The have the best tasting $6.00 burger for $9.00. Lol!! Three chicken strips on a bed of fries are hardly worth $12.95 even if they are good. You average $10.00 per person but it's fun & funky and the service is always with a smile. I'll surely go again & again since I'm just up the road.
Review Source:Kind of out of the way, but our friends didn't want us to have to drive through Santa Barbara to meet them. Â Turns out that they had history with this place, and used to come here when they were out on this coast. Â This place is about history, as the photos on the wall testify. Â From what I gathered, one of President Reagan's Secret Service agents knew this place and the original owners. Â So, brought the Man here. Â Lots of other celebrity types have been through. Â So, that was then, this is now.
Rather unremarkable place in a touristy area. Â Rather like a mini-Cambria. Â Check out the carved statues out front. Â Service is friendly, and efficient. Â Three of us had the fish and chips, one French dip, little guy had a cheeseburger, and I forgot what our other friend had. Â We were busy catching up with our friends, so I didn't find out how the other folks meals were. Â Little guy did a very creditable job on his c-burger. Â The fish and chips where generous, and quite good. Â On recommendation from another Yelper, we tried the onion rings, and they were good.
Came here on a road trip down to SoCal with my guy's family. The food was very tasty, BUT ridiculously pricey for what you get. As a vegetarian, I'm used to having to order sides to make a meal, which I don't have a problem with. However, I ordered mashed potatoes and spinach for $4.95 each and what arrived at the table was paltry. Small servings are fine, but they should be priced accordingly. Spent $15 on that and a beer and was still hungry when I left.
Review Source:We were on our way back to L.A. from SLO when "The Hunger" kicked in. We drove around the stuffy downtown part of Santa Barbara and I was turned off by the douchy atmosphere--back to the freeway it was!
We then decided to get off the next exit (I forget which exit) and scope out the eateries. The first one in sight, that has a bathroom wins.
The Nugget was that winner.
This is a burger joint with a bar, beer is all they serve, I believe.
I ordered an appetizer of marinated olives, and a cheeseburger--comes with fries. Milady ordered a salmon burger that also came with fries.
IMO, both meals were awesome and fulfilling--just what the doctor ordered.
I give props to the cool ass/funny ass hell cook Chuck. He rocked the grill!
The beef is fresh ground, not frozen--fish is also fresh catches of the day.
Damn, I'm hungry...again. ;-)
