We stopped in here on our way home from Santa Fe.  We might be BBQ snobs, but this was AWFUL!  The brisket my husband ordered was quite fatty, and there was NO flavor to the meat.  The sausage was nothing more than a regular kielbasa.  I had the stuffed potato.  There was way too much fat draining from the meat into the potato!  The waitress was over-worked, trying to juggle all the customers.  She never did bring us refills for our water.

The BBQ restaurant I have ever visited. On our 9,000-mile crosscountry driving tour, we ate here twice--once on our way to New York and once on our way back home in California.

This place was just ok.. The ribs, brisket, and sausage all below average. This place would get laughed out of Texas..
Huge portions so it will definitely make a turd! And that's the reason we eat right?

I was pleasantly surprised when we tripped over this place on the way home from Bishops Castle. BBQ & castle climbing what a way to spend a day with my daughters!

Saw the sign <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/obies-fillin-station-colorado-city?select=J0xqzAVPXLXg1RtKabgDzQ#EtgfLBr5gxWtbQmbInQ1AA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>   and was drawn in like a moth to a bright light on a summers eve. Its hard for me to pass up BBQ as it is my favorite thing to eat. And with a name like Obie's Filling Station how could I go wrong.  <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/obies-fillin-station-colorado-city?select=J0xqzAVPXLXg1RtKabgDzQ#l11Xs4Qftv023a3syCy3aQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>

Obie's offers 2 places to eat. A 50's cafe style dining room or at the bar on the other side of the joint. Guess where we ate?  The bar of course, <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/obies-fillin-station-colorado-city?select=J0xqzAVPXLXg1RtKabgDzQ#3gTK55xOK74NWAvY4iA6iw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>   where Nitro Milk Porter for me  <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/obies-fillin-station-colorado-city?select=J0xqzAVPXLXg1RtKabgDzQ#J0xqzAVPXLXg1RtKabgDzQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>  and giant milk shakes for my girls <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/obies-fillin-station-colorado-city?select=J0xqzAVPXLXg1RtKabgDzQ#SiW1lxJb7QsJaKHsOzV7Aw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>   helped to cool us down from the days road trip.  5*****Stars

    FOOD ORDERED:
Rack of Ribs with Mac & Cheese and fries for daughter #1 <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/obies-fillin-station-colorado-city?select=LHcoYoKQKoJ5J4zC8pFkMQ#QqkjDNheEZdReIF3NWqf7w">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>

BBQ Chicken with Mac & Cheese and Deep Fried Corn on the Cob for daughter #2 <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/obies-fillin-station-colorado-city?select=LHcoYoKQKoJ5J4zC8pFkMQ#a46hoTqaRtEwToRb6N6Uug">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>

Smoked Jalapeno Cheddar Elk Sausage with Mashed Potatoes & Gravy and Onion Rings for me.  <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/obies-fillin-station-colorado-city?select=LHcoYoKQKoJ5J4zC8pFkMQ#LHcoYoKQKoJ5J4zC8pFkMQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>

I tried all 3 BBQ sauces while waiting
Spicy  ... had a little kick
    Smokey ...  was pretty tasty
Honey ...  I didn't taste honey but it was sweet, too sweet for me

I found that mixing the Smokey & Spicy was the best deal

    FOOD TASTE:

Daughter #1's ribs .... at 65lbs she did some serious damage eating half the ribs all the M&C and half the fries. She gave it 5*****Stars, I finished the ribs and after I replaced the ketchup like sauce they came with the Spicy / Smokey stuff and they were much better. These ribs lacked smoke and bark. I gave the ribs 3***Stars

Daughter #2's Chicken .... She ate the whole thing the M&C but skipped the Corn.
She gave it a solid 3.5***Stars

I ate her Corn. It was Meh 2 Stars

My Smoked Jalapeno Cheddar Elk Sausage with Mashed Potatoes & Gravy and Onion Rings was mostly all good. The O-rings were perfect but the gravy was some bottled stuff. The Sausage was kick ass and as advertised the jalapeno kicked it up a notch. A super combo for a sausage. Just look close and you see all the pepper & cheesy love in that baby. <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/obies-fillin-station-colorado-city?select=LHcoYoKQKoJ5J4zC8pFkMQ#Tu2P0IEr4ufbCj2_xc9QHA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>  I really liked this one. 2 big sausages = 1 great meal! 4.5****Stars for me.

I saw this out back but didn't taste it on the ribs or chicken.

This is a pretty nice little bar that seems to cater to the biker crowd. It was clean and even the bathrooms were nice. The waitress who took our order was kind of cranky. We were there close to closing so I cut her some slack. Overall the place and its food & Drink get a 3.75**** Star so I bumped em up.

Obie's ain't a bad place to chow down & cool down I'll be back one day.

Came here on our way to Bishop Castle. The ribs and the pulled pork were amazing, the brisket was great but if you're choosing sides stick with the pigs. All 3 sauces - spicy, smokey, and honey were fantastic. They don't mess around on the sides either, between the three of us, we had the mac and cheese, coleslaw, fried pickles, potato salad, fries, and battered corn. I think the fried pickles were the best of the bunch. Mac and cheese was the weakest offering and yet I finished it happily. This is a great little place. Quite the dessert offerings, too, including hand scooped ice cream although by the time we'd finished our entrees, we honestly couldn't have considered trying it. You won't regret your stop here.

This was such a surprise.  We came along it while gasing up on our way from Trinidad back to Denver.  The food was genuinely good.  I loved my portobello burger--it really hit the spot and the homemade potato chips that accompanied it were delicious.  The portion sizes as huge and very, very reasonably priced.  It's the type of joint where you know you're going to share your dish with your table mates and, thankfully, there's plenty to go around.  The only thing I didn't fall for was the brisket.  It just wasn't anything special.  Anyway I'll definitely be back the next time I'm along that portion of the I-25 corridor.

Excellent!!! We got the 3 meat platter to try a variety. The elk jalepeno sausage was to die for, the pulled pork was the best I've had in Colorado, Texas or Arizona, and the ribs were excellent too. Prices are reasonable. The atmosphere was cute old gas station diner.

We were camping and decided to escape the rain, so we drove into town and ended up at this place. We were pleasantly surprised with the portions of meat for the price. Definitely get the two or three meat combo - you could spend a day hiking through the woods with your belly full of meat and two sides. The backed potato as well comes with a huge delicious pile of meat on it. The service is mediocre. And $2 shock top beer.  Finish off with some ice cream.

    Have been here twice now.

The first time was one of the best BBQ experiences I have had anywhere. The brisket was smoky and tender.  The sauces were wonderful, and I had an excellent conversation with the bartender.  They even had Pacifico on tap.

The second visit, not three weeks later was a disappointment. I went back with my girlfriend after having talked this place up for weeks, and it did not live up the expectations. The waitress was rude, the brisket was cut poorly, and my girlfriend said her pulled pork was bland.

I will go back, no question, but I will hesitate to talk this place up more until I have a more complete picture.

Obie's gets four stars from me. Its a place that is fun and has pretty decent food but could be a one of those legendary joints you tell people from other states you have been to.

A group of us went for drinks and BBQ and sat in the bar, which was cool. Great atmosphere way out in Colorado City with a patio on the roof and pool tables in the "garage". Major props for that. You can get draft beers in 20oz large glasses or bottles. I of course went for the large glass. A couple of us got Margaritas and they liked them alot. So far so good. Good drinks, cool building.

So why only four stars? Well its the BBQ. The Brisket was pretty good. Not a ton of smoke flavor but differently passable. The Ribs on the other hand, well, they need some serious help. I think they were boiled?! That's a cardinal sin you say. Yes I reply. The giveaway is they you cannot get them without BBQ sauce already on them and the bone pulls out of the meat like a roast from the crock pot. Deliciously tender, yes, real BBQ, no.

So Obie if your reading this. Please, PLEASE work on those ribs. We know what good BBQ can be and I so want you to be the kind of place people go out of their way for.
