This is as good as it gets on the OBX. Â Donnie King has done a fabulous job getting a great team of professionals together to provide a super dining experience. Â All of the servers have held their jobs for years as has most of the cook staff, bartenders and others that work here. Â It is a cohesive team that delivers an excellent experience.
Good wine list, very creative dishes, and super atmosphere in this restaurant which is as close to the ocean as you can get on the Outer Banks.
For a special treat see if they can seat you at the table that overlooks the kitchen. Â You can watch the guys in the kitchen doing their thing from close range, or you can glance out to the right to look at the ocean while you wait for your food.
The only down side is every time I eat here I over do it and feel like a stuffed animal when I go home.
If you have a special occassion to celebrate or want to have an impressive meal OB is the place to be.
Oh, and they are one of the few restaurants open year round on the OBX!
Having been to Ocean Blvd a couple of times before, we had decided it was the most elegant and delicious place for adult dinners out. The food had been good in the past.
The last time we went, about a month ago, I ordered the mussels appetizer. I spat out one bad one, with apologies to my dinner mates. Then, had another bad one, so I stopped. I politely told the waiter that the mussels were bad, and he took them away. He did not offer me anything else for an app, and I had ordered dinner, so I let it pass. Â We were having a nice dinner, three of us, and at that moment it was not important.
Then, at the end of meal he brought the check, with the mussels still on it. I, again very politely, pointed out that the bad mussels were still on the check, and I had not been offered a replacement. The waiter said he had spoken with the owner and the chef, who both said the mussels were fine. I then quietly said that's too bad, because you will be the one to suffer in the end. He went away mumbling with my credit card, and came back and THREW the tray with chit, credit card and pen into my lap. Â Threw it. Â We have never been so shocked in our lives at duch behavior. I think the waiter acted like he was under the influence of something.
We will never go back--Blue Point is just as good , plus the wait staff is charming. Oh, I gave the waiter a $5 tip for a tab of more than $150. I do not remember ever doing that before, in all my 58 years. I always tip 20%.
My friend and I went here for dinner tonight. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile, and we're in town to go to the OBX Wedding Expo, and Ocean Boulevard is a participating vendor. Even without the expo discount, the food was totally worth it.
Since I had seen on other Yelp reviews that they offered a vegetarian menu, I asked for it. It was a full menu, with three appetizers, two salads and three entrees to choose from. They also offer quite a few beers, although nothing on tap--just bottles.
Both my friend and I ordered off the vegetarian menu. We went with a stir fry appetizer. Oh my, was it tasty. We're trying to figure out exactly what spices were in it to attempt to recreate when we get home. :P For entrees, I got a pasta dish with mushrooms, while my friend got the chickpea fritters, which were like falafel, but not quite. My friend declared them very good--I had a small sample, and the spices were good, but a bit on the sweet side. My pasta dish was tasty, although I didn't care for the caper berries.
After the incredible dinner we'd had, we decided to splurge on dessert. I ordered orange sorbet--had to be about 7 or 8 oz. of sorbet. Very sweet--both my friend and I shared it, and couldn't finish it. She also ordered peanut butter cheesecake--a huge piece, half of which came back with us to the hotel.
This meal was one of the best I've had on the Outer Banks, and we've been coming here for several years now. I will definitely be setting up a wedding tasting when I'm back out in the OBX in April.
Always enjoyed the restaurant.  Our 5th year back.  Last nite we were seated immediately and staff showed up promptly.  Swordfish special was outstanding.  I had the pork shoulder with caponata... Not bad  -- but would not do it again. Â
Our friends enjoyed the house Pinot Grigio but noted a big difference when They ordered a second glass. It could not have been the same wine!
Pumpkin ice cream was very nice.
Dinner at Ocean Boulevard on Saturday night of Labor Day weekend was relaxed, well presented and leisurely. Kudos to the staff. We consumed a mix of appetizers, soup, and regular entrees. The entrees were almost overkill, but not quite. Example, shortribs as a bed for chops, all the sides on the plates were yummy and overseasoning was not an issue (frequent problem in tourist locations especially). I would skip the griddle appetizer. The meats were all cooked perfectly.
Review Source:We stayed right down the road on our vacation so my wife and I went here several times. We also only got drinks and the mussell app. It is expensive but everything we got was great. Outside seating is awesome and theres always livep music after 6. It does close at ten which is kind of a bummer. The inside dining and bar also looked very nice...but why sit inside when youre right by the beach? Great place for a cocktail. My wife also wanted to note that the Liquid Passion martini should be 5 stars, so there it is.
Review Source:So, I went last year and would have given it 5 stars. Â So, I came back. Â Unfortunately, this year had a 3 star meal. Â So, the 4 stars are my average. Â I will come back because I am just thinking that they had an off night.
This is an actual real restaurant with creative cooking in the OBX. Â It does not have a buffet, a pirate theme, cheap plastic trinkets hanging from the walls, etc. Â Thank heavens. Â Instead, it is a good meal with interesting items.
Go without your kids. Â Definitely bring your wallet -- it has Duck prices in Kitty Hawk.
I FOUND IT!!!!
THE hoity-toity-hideaway of Kitty Hawk.
Our whole trip I was wondering where the Outer Banks Elite ventured to partake in dinner when they ventured out of their luscious oceanfront abodes.....
We were greeted by the most nonplussed hostess I've ever encountered. Our outlet clothing and less than polished appearance must have given away our non-elite social status.Thank goodness for Open Table online reservations because I fear we may been "informed" that seating wasn't available that evening. We were led to a surprisingly GREAT table overlooking the dunes along VA Dare Trail. A nice cozy corner for two. It was only slightly spoiled by the mother/daughter-glitzy-girls-night-out affair being conducted at the table adjacent to us. (nothing quite like the sound of the well-to-do and their offspring consuming alcohol and discussing their "problems")...anyways....
Once you get past the crowd and clientele....this place has a GREAT atmosphere and appearance. It's clean, spacious yet cozy, and the location is perfect.
As mentioned in other reviews (THANKS!!) this place has a FULL and separate vegetarian menu, which was just perfect for my wife's cravings that night. The regular menu was equally great! The place is on the pricey side, but you're definitely getting your money's worth. And by that I mean in quality AND portion size. The beer and wine selection was EXCELLENT. Â
Atmosphere is upscale casual.... you can wear jeans for sure...but at least throw on a button-up shirt or polo. You might feel out of place in board shorts, t-shirt and flip flops.... I'm not so sure nonplussed-Hostess would even seat you.
Good food, will eat again.
Ocean Boulevard never disappoints. Donnie and his staff consistently give excellent service, interesting, well prepared dishes in a beautiful setting. We had a recent evening out with a group of seven, and everything was flawless. i cannot recommend too highly. OB is not typical beach fare, but fine dining at the beach. Enjoy..
Review Source:We ate at Ocean Boulevard as guests of a wedding rehearsal dinner. This was both one of the best wedding rehearsal dinners and one of the best OBX dinners we've ever had. The bar is very nice and they had an excellent selection of beers (from real Belgians to the best American craft brews) and a nice wine list. Although the dinner was prix fixe, I was able to sample 3 of the entrees, the salad course and 2 desserts. I can recommend all of the entrees served--the mackerel was tender, the beef tenderloin was thick, marbled and juicy and the half chicken was baked and seasoned just right and fell right off the bone. The salad course was local greens, figs, pistachios and goat cheese providing excellent balance with the dijon dressing. The sides for the main dishes were also very fresh and flavorful--local limas, mushrooms and peppers and polenta with the chicken; asparagus, mustard greens and a delicious croquette with gruyere and bacon with the beef. Finally, the chocolate gateau with whipped cream and raspberry coulis and the creme brulee were excellent desserts. The service and accommodations were perfect for our event, we look forward to returning to sample the full menu in the OB dining room.
Review Source:Ocean Boulevard has a completely separate (and full) vegetarian menu. Â It is not a restaurant where they piecemeal together random vegetables to make a wannabe dish (this drives me insane). Â They have appetizers, salads and entrees that are completely vegetarian, i.e. they do not contain seafood, and care has been put into the ingredients. Â
Our waiter, who also served us in the fall, was very professional and knew the wine and food well and from the wine selection, Nikki chose a half bottle of the Sauvignon Blanc ($24).  The fresh bread and soft butter also win praise.  Out of the four vegetarian entrees, I chose the Pinot Noir Risotto ($17), which came with sautéed asparagus, roasted tomatoes and red onions and honey.  The honey meshed so well with the other flavors in this dish.  I was thrilled and would love to have this again.  Nikki ordered the special, lightly fried flounder with asparagus in a white wine bacon sauce ($30).  She said the sauce was watery and would not order this again, so Ocean Boulevard missed a five on the food rating.
Dessert presentation is worthy of the Food Network and the flavors are as well. Â There are always five or six desserts and a few varieties of homemade ice cream for the choosing at Ocean Boulevard. Â

Love this place!!! I am in town visiting from Wilmington for work and thought I would give this place a try. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. The service was great it has an upscale but not stuffy feel, and the chef is awesome! I don't eat much meat so I had the ahi appetizer which was delicious, then had the soup of the day which was quite possibly the best sweet potato bisque I've ever had. I also had a salad that was great! If you're in the area I highly recommend giving this place a shot!
Review Source:So here's the short version: Â Very Good Service. Â Sat at the chef's table. Â The salad was average at best (nothing particularly wrong with it, just tasted boring). My problem was the steak. Â It was terrible! So overcooked. Â I got it Medium Rare and the second I ordered it, the Johnston & Wales trained 'chef' was putting it on the grill. Â By the time I'd had my salad and was ready for the entree, the charred meat was Well Done and gross. If it was cooked Medium or even Medium-Well, I probably wouldn't be writing this review... but I swear it was Well Done! That's a far cry from Med-Rare. Â
At really good steak houses, like Morton's, you can order your steak with a 'Plus' i.e. "Medium +" would be between Medium and Medium Well, and they get it right every time. But I don't need that much precision... just get it within one... or preferably... just get it right!
Very disappointed.
Love it. This place has been our go-to "no-kids" dinner for the past 2 years in OBX. They have a creative "martini" menu -- sweet cocktails are not usually my cup o' tea but I have to admit that some of these are pretty good.
The menu's a little confusing. The dishes are kind of all over the map, with surprising little seafood, but it doesn't matter: everything my wife and I have tried has been excellent.
The best part is the outdoor patio... where you can sit back after dinner, drink a bottle of wine, much on a cheese platter, and listen to the local beach musicians strumming out tunes. Now that's my idea of a date night. Awesome.
After trying out many of the "fine dining" joints in OBX... this place is just right.
UPDATE (Aug 2012):
Went here again this year. The food was the best I've ever had there; it was raining so outdoor entertainment, but we had a couple cocktails at the bar that were great. Perfect manhattan. This place attracts locals at the bar and they're always ready to chat :)
Dear Ocean Blvd,
I tried, I put in the effort. I came, we had a nice time. Your dinner was good, if a bit over priced and simple. But at the end of the day, it just wasn't interesting enough to keep me engaged, so I'm moving on.
I'm sure you'll find someone else, after all there are a lot of tourists who come through and only a very few decent restaurants so I'm sure you'll be fine.
You've got a great personality but we just didn't click, it's not you...it's me.
Goodbye.
Ocean Boulevard was a great spot to have dinner with the family. We typically go out once while we're in Nags Head for a week and this proved to be well worth the excursion from mom's cooking.
It was crowded at 7pm (peak dining time) but we were seated quickly with our reservation. They have a thorough wine list, beer and specialty house cocktail selection. We started with soups and salads - I highly recommend the crap soup or any feature "starter" chef prepares that evening.
For dinner we had crab cakes, catfish, and yellow tail tuna (evening feature) all were cooked perfectly and best of all everything was fresh.
My recommendation is to make reservations and go with an appetite.
I enjoy this nice restaurant and bar more than any other on the Outer Banks. The bar is warm and cozy, the martinis are awesome, and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. More often than not, we eat at the bar.
The food is always excellent, and the prices are reasonable for the quality - entrees in the mid to upper $20's. The Duck Confit Potstickers make a nice start. The Rack of Lamb, the Duck Breast, and the Beef Tenderloin are all nice, as is the Salmon.
Good food, good drinks, and good folks - there can never be too much good.
We had such high expectations based on the advertisements...Appetizers began the disappointment. Caesar salad was brown and dressing was too salty. The tuna asahi was tasteless and had inexplicable accompaniments...culminating in a seafood special that pro ported to be flounder, but was obviously some lesser fish with stewed arugula, which completely overshadowed the fish and the random dumplings scattered under the crunchy lima beans. The service was very rushed, even though there were many empty tables, for example, the waiter gave us our check before we even finished dessert. Hm.
Bottom line: come for the martinis and desserts...skip the appetizers/entrees.
Fantastic service and great food. Came by on a Tuesday night and we were seated in the quaint park benches near the kitchen. I ordered the mussels and shrimp lyonnaise dish, while my parents got the tuna, salad and scallops. I love ordering appetizers moreover than an entree and this was a great place to do just that. Never did we have an empty glass and every dish was paced at the right time. Some of the mussels were bigger and tastier than others, but loved the curry sauce and sopped it up with the bread. My other dish was good, the shrimp and peas were OK, but the best part was the perfectly cut potatoes with sauteed onions. If you could imagine eating potatoes for the first time, with a light oil and crispy touch, it got better and better with each bite. While we were moderately full with our entrees, we couldn't pass up a dessert and continuing our wonderful experience. We ordered the chocolate dessert for us all and unbeknownst to us my dad who has diabetes tried to order something separate, which we quickly dismissed. Much to our surprise the waiter brought a mini sized dessert of the one that he wanted. That was damn special and we will never forget it.
Review Source:Carolina Chef's Tasting Menu: 3/12/10
Appetizer: NC Shrimp & Fayetteville Sausage Saute - Orecciette Pasta, roast Peppers, Kilmarlic Farms Greens +Herbed Shellfish Butter Sauce
Soup: Spiced Sweet Potato Soup, Pulled Duck Leg Confit, Spicy Greens + Goat Cheese
Entree: Seared Local Rockfish Fillet, South Carolina Heirloom Grits, Winter Squash Puree, Smoked Paprika Stewed Blackeyed Peas + Apple Relish
Dessert: Individual Walnut-Pecan Pie with Spiced Caramel Ice Cream
Wine selections paired with each based on NC offerings. Â The food was well presented, the flavor profiles were spot on and I was pleasantly surprised by the NC wine offerings as each dish was consumed. Â The staff was gracious, the place was hopping despite the downpour outside and the bustling open kitchen provided great culinary entertainment.
I have been to O BLVD before a couple of years ago and it was so nice to have the same experience this go 'round. Â Too many restaurants don't have consistency in the quality of their food, the customer service or even the ambiance during your dining experience - O BLVD does! Â The 2010 OBX Taste of the Beach event was a success and we heard from others during the weekend that this was one of their favorites.
Let's get the second half of the name out of the way....Ocean Boulevard Bistro & Martini Bar definitely has a good martini. Â They are well made to your (or their) specs and a nice way to start a meal.
The food here is good, every thing is cooked correctly and the main flavor components are good. Â However, the execution seems to be a bit clumsy with the main part of a dish playing second fiddle to an array of accompanying parts. Â
For example, a scallop special had well cooked scallops with apples and a bread pudding on the side, except there was more of both of the sides than the scallop. Â A fish dish came with random shrimp scattered about. Â The pork belly confit with apples and bacon brittle also had a random swipe of whipped potatoes that didn't add to the dish. Â The list of stuff that came with the Mahi Mahi dish was so long i asked for cliff notes.
Don't get me wrong, I like the food but it could use some focus.  The menu itself is a mix of some stand-by staples with some interesting  and adventuresome items mixed in.  An excellent roast half chicken dish sits next to a korean spiced BBQ pork.  A simple shrimp dish is next to an indian themed scallop dish.  They tend to have a couple of interesting specials.
Desert is pretty basic, Â a cheesecake, a creme brulee, etc, but worth the calories.
The service here is friendly and helpful. Â They know their menu well, have the cliff note version in check, and are able to offer good explanations when queried about the food. Â The dining room is comfortable and strikes a good balance between spaciousness and closeness. Â There is a spot where you can sit on a bar facing into the kitchen and an upstairs for private parties.
Overall, Ocean Boulevard is a fine option for a good meal in the Outer Banks.
Amazing restaurant! Â We were looking for a nice place to celebrate our vacation, and Ocean Boulevard more than delivered. Â The atmosphere is nice - you can feel comfortable dressed up or in jeans with a nice shirt.
The food was amazing. Â I had a steak and it was the best I've had in a very long time -- tender, cooked perfectly, and nicely balanced with vegetables on the side. Â One friend had scallops and he was just as happy with his choice. Â The martinis are actually interesting and not just vodka with a mixer. Â The rosemary infused lemon martini was smooth, unique, and something I doubt you can find anywhere else.
Overall it's the best place I've found for a nice night out in the Outer Banks. Â I'm looking forward to going back and trying everything else on the menu as soon as I can.
My friends took me here for my bachelorette party and the staff was soooo great. They gave us a private room and great service. We didn't realize until we left that they let us stay past when the other diners had left. The food was very, very good, and they have a full, separate vegetarian menu. The only thing that wasn't perfect was that the prices were on the high side. But for a special occasion, it was totally worth it.
