Not a bad place. Â Used to go here for happy hour with coworkers and they always have decently priced drinks and a good array of appetizers. Â I always enjoyed their Chicken Nachos. Â I've also been here a couple times for dinner and it's usually alright. Â The service is usually timely but uninterested. Â Very good place to go for group parties. Â Also has a terrific patio for the summer months.
Review Source:Held a meeting there for 25 people. Â The room was great, not crowded and quiet. Â The waitress was fantastic. Â I thought we would be forever taking orders and to get our food. Â She was efficient, after taking our orders she placed the order and moved out. Â Our food came out quickly, hot and correct. Â My salad was enormous and tasty. Â No one had any complaints about the food and service. Â Good job!
Review Source:When I first moved to Delaware in 2008 I thought Old Bag of Nails was the worst place on the planet. However the last few times I've been there it's been much better. The food is great, must try the reuben--wow, but the service is just slow and so uninterested. The servers just stand around at the bar talking. It's kind of annoying to watch when the place is pretty full.
Review Source:Old Bag of Nails is going to have to do a lot to get themselves back on my list of regular restaurants to frequent. Almost every time I've gone it's been a negative experience in one way or another. First time I think the waiter was trying to play a joke or complete a dare, but everything I received first came to me in mini-size... Diet Coke in a shot glass, "salad" in a dressing cup... it was cute/funny at first, and then I was frustrated because I was actually terribly hungry and not in the mood for it. If your'e going to play a prank, be able to read the customer first and see if she's up for it. I swore I was being punk'd... but Ashton Kutcher did not come out and surprise me at the end. Second time I got to hear our waitress bad-mouth the rest of her wait staff. The unprofessionalism continued every time. Like my mantra says, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but after multiple bad experiences I stay away.
The one thing the place does have going for it is an awesome outside patio that looks out onto the Delaware downtown and good beer on tap.
Watch out for the appetizer buffet! Â They are poorly equipped to handle this and the food gets cold. Â When I notified the manager that the food was cold, they just replaced the sterno to "reheat" the food. Â When I questioned the safety of reheating food that had gone cold they actually said "we can't just throw away all of that food!". This makes me question their other food handling practices. Â I will not be back to the Delaware location unless I know the kitchen manager has been educated on safe food prep/handling procedures.
Pros: Â good food selection
     Tasty when fresh and hot
Nice room you can reserve for bigger groups (beware of auto tip)
Cons: Â no more pretzel rolls!
Stay away from the patio unless you don't mind the overwhelming smoke
      SLOW service
Hit or miss if you get a good server.  I have had either really good ones or really bad ones
I haven't been a regular here since I graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 2008, but at the the time it had the best happy hour in town with great drinks and appetizers at great prices. The patio is a great place to sit and relax in the sun. They have a good tap selection and as far as I've been able to tell a very friendly staff. Will likely go again next time I'm in town.
Review Source:Went here over the weekend with a large group of people from out of town who had never been to an Old Bag of Nails and everyone was very pleased. Â We went in for lunch around 11 and got seated promptly. Â The server was great on getting everyone their drinks as a few members of are party straggled in after finding parking. Â I have been many of times and decided to try something new on the menu. Â The french onion soup was amazing. Â I decided to try the New England Ruben which tasted really good. Â I was glad to see that they had Yuengling and Yuengling Light both on tap and in the bottle. Â The only thing that I was not happy about was they no longer have ketchup in the bottle and the server has to bring you little cups, so if you like ketchup ask for a lot in advance. Â Loved being able to see the football games going on. Â Even though OSU had a night game the area still had a nice atmosphere.
Review Source:I think this place has gotten a bit of a bum rap, especially on some other review sites (where I know that some of its harsh reviews were written by the owners of local competitors' bars).
I really like the menu here. Â There's something for everyone, and it's pretty much all tasty, in my experience, having been here 7 or 8 times. Â I particularly like their all-you-can-eat chili and cornbread. Â Spinach salad with bacon vinaigrette dressing was delicious. Â They really have a wide selection of food, and beers too, I believe. Â The outdoor patio set-up is really nice. Â If you have kids, bring them on Sunday! There's some sort of special "kids eat free" deal on Sundays (and there are always crayons and activity place mats for the kids, along with a decent kids' menu).
Caveat: Â yes, the service IS slow here. Â It just is, every time I've been here. Â I've come to accept that. I think their kitchen and/or kitchen staff might be kind of small for what they're doing (I believe I read somewhere their kitchen space might be inadequate). Â Come when you've got some time to kill, not when you have to be somewhere else in half an hour. Â It's not fast food.
Nice ambiance and location in downtown Delaware, good to walk to and from.
This was a good place in 2010, but not so much. Â The shrimp kids plate is excellent quality shrimp. I actually preferred it over my fish n chips, which was tasteless and greasy. Â Waitress kindly coordianted a refund because I had only taken a few bites. Â My husband thought the chicken wrap was okay. Â Nice seating options, indoor and out, nothing for kids to stay busy with. A litle too expensive for such a mediochre experience.
Review Source:Bag of Nails came to town a few years back and it was the hottest thing since sliced bread.
Now five years later it has lost some of its luster and other restaurants have made changes to catch-up with it. The outside bar service is still a great thing but no longer "the only game in town."
The fried pickels advertiser is by far my favorite thing on the menu. The "famous" fish and chips is usually too oily for me and the fried snickers is worth sharing with friends.
Pros: Wide menu variety, outside seating, group area.
Con: Slow service, value for price.
The food at this place isn't bad.
The problem is the service. Been there several times and It's always the same. Sloooow. Wait staff attentive, very slow to get food and usually something is wrong. Once you have your food forget about them coming back to ask how it is or refill drinks. Even slow when trying to pay.
I've been here several times. I think you have to try playing around on their menu. Some of it's good and some of it's only "eh". The Pauly Burger or whatever was REALLY good when I had it. lt was hard to finish too haha. The onion rings are really good also.
It's pretty clean in there and decent for a relaxing dinner. There's different areas you could sit. Up away from the bar, in the back, outside, tables near the bar, and I believe you can sit at the bar...not totally sure about it though.
The comment "Over-priced version of McDonald's that serves alcohol" ... Wow...are you kidding me?
If you have the choice, go to the original in Worthington. In a pinch this is a nice place to hang out with friends. Durring the summer and early fall, there are live bands playing on the patio.
Unfortunately, the food isn't the greatest and priced higher than its quality allows. Â They offer a full bar, but in the last few times I've been, they have yet to get a basic drink correct (dry gin martini with too much vermuth, and having to explain how to make a Manhattan). Â They do however have a great variety of imports on tap, one of the few places in town that does.
When the Old Bag of Nails first opened in Delaware, I was thrilled. I used to frequent the original in Worthington, and was expecting something similar - but hopefully much less cramped and crowded.
I was elated when I first walked in and found a similar atmosphere, complete with Guinness on tap. The fish and chips are great, provided you expect them to be greasy. Fried pickles must be sampled before any opinion is made. The patio is a nice alternative on a moderate day. There's even a party room in the back for large groups.
Needless to say, I've enjoyed the Old Bag of Nails for many years. Unfortunately, our last few visits have been plagued with wrong orders, extremely slow service, and a higher-priced menu. My wife always seems to be seated directly under a vent that blasts freezing cold air to the point that a jacket is needed.
While I still go on occasion, I usually keep my expectations low and lament that it's not the same place it was a few years ago.
