After several more trips to the OQAC, I feel better qualified to offer a little more information about the place. The owner is wrecks bell (his spelling), former bassist for Townes Van Zandt. If that name doesn't ring a bell, please stop reading this review; you have no reason to go to the Old Quarter.
As mentioned in another review, beer and wine are available, but no hard liquor. BYOB seems to be frowned upon, but is not outlawed. Understand before you go that the venue is all about the music. It is not a place with 200 beers on tap and an extensive wine list. It does, however, attract all of the top Americana, Red-Dirt, Canadian-folk, bluesy, alt-country, country-rock artists drawing breath today.
Newcomers and legends play the Old Quarter. You are hereby advised to see them there if you can. Seating is limited. Reserve early. Ticket price is set by the band, either directly or indirectly. Newer acts may play for $5. A show from a legend will be more.
While you are there, make sure you try a StarBock. It's a magical mixture of Lone Star and Shiner Bock. It is also the impetus of a lawsuit against wrecks by a famous(ly overrated) Seattle coffee pimp. Seriously, are we gonna confuse good beer with mediocre latte? I think not.
