This is one of my favorite places to eat in S/T. I love all of it. I don't know where to start! Â I recommend the raw kale energy drink, one of my favorites. As for the food, I seem to order the black and bleu burger, the garden burger, and the Mediterranean sampler plate. Tonight I had the Big Lee Sampler. Everything so good and homemade! Erin even delivered it herself...to my house!!! I want to try more items, but I keep going back to what I know I like. I guess it's safe to assume I will like everything. It takes a lot to make it in a business in our area these days. Erin and Jamie have what it takes to keep their customers coming back again and again!
Review Source:FIrst breakfast food ever at Comfort and Joy... Stopped by while doing some errands and ordered a sweet little Roadie: eggs, ham, vegetables, lettuce, on pita bread, which was very fresh and tasty.
Coffee is great: ground fresh and hot.
Looking forward to their new hours as I can scarf a breakfast on my way out the door en route to work..
Nice little hidden gem! Â The staff is extremely friendly, and accommodating. Â They were very helpful with accommodating food sensitivities. Â Chris, their manager / chef, is a pastry chef...he is Gluten Free...therefore, is VERY aware in this arena, offering many GF choices.
I found them today on Yelp, when searching for a place to eat, in my friends 'hood'. Â Whoever...would have guessed...that a little earthy cafe in Tujunga, would offer Gluten Free, Vegan, and Vegetarian options?!? Â Will miracles never cease?!? Â I would honestly have to say, this little cafe...offers more GF options, than your 'fancy pants' well known, high end 'Healthy' restaurants, on the Westside, or Studio City. Â What a Surprise!!!
1st time here w wife n grandaughter. Wife had chicken bacon wrap delicious. granddaughter had jimmy cakes careful these cakes are giant. 1 for a child is plenty. I enjoyed my blu cheese bacon cheese burger w fries. Best blu cheese burger i have had in a long time. Desert was brownie synday. Great people great food fair pricing. Thanks for a great lunch.
Review Source:This is my absolutely favorite place in town! Â The food is all made fresh from scratch and is delicious! Â Honestly I've never had anything I didn't love here. Â The hummus is out of this world. Really the best I've ever had. Â I have no idea where the people that have posted bad reviews are going to but it's definitely not Comfort & Joy because I have NEVER witnessed or experienced most of what has been complained about! Â There was some constructive comments that the restaurant has since improved upon but most must be fake reviews because they just aren't accurate. Â The really great draw to this cafe aside from the great food is the atmosphere! Â It is the friendliest happiest place to eat, visit with friends, make new friends or enjoy some music. Â If I'm having a bad day I can go there enjoy a meal, be cheered up by the wonderful owners and their employees and more often than not have people I know or have met there stop by to say hi or join me in sharing a meal or just visit! Â The name Comfort & Joy is extremely accurate. Â Come and see for yourself! Â Maybe you'll see me there :)
Review Source:I work on foothill and would rather stay hungry till i got out of work at 5, and i can only really get delivery and i am not a fan of pizza or having to spend a min. of $15+ to get myself lunch...i met a gentlemen names LEE who told me about the place he delivered for called Comfort and Joy Cafe...no min. order and low-carb, vegan friendly and gluten-free options with fresh ingredients and amazing flavors, let's just say i am addicted and not so upset with my mom not having enough time to cook at home, because now i can enjoy home cooked, delicious food from a place that stands so true to their name bringing me the comfort of not having to starv till 5pm and joy of eating delicious food, and the dessert, sweet goodies they have that i have been luck enough to taste are soooo good, i have tried the peanut butter cream filled sandwich cookie, and this peanut butter cookie cup thing filled with yummy chocolate in the middle...sooo good!!!! my food is here! bye bye! :) THANK GUYS I LOVE YOU!
Review Source:The food here is really good and the staff is super nice. Seriously, I've rarely gotten food from a place with nicer people. I love the variety of their menu as well. They could use some improvement on their seating, but it's great to sit outside on a nice day. Also the perfect place for take-out.
Review Source:This place is right by my job and I eat there practically everyday! They have it ALL!!! Great selection of soups, breakfasts, lunches & dinners. They have the BEST Mediterranean wraps ever!! I also like the chix and wrap and the veggie omelette! Sometimes I simply eat "fresh fruits," which by the way are delicious! Everything is just so fresh and delicious at that place. Friendly employees too!!!!!!!
Review Source:I went there for comdey night and I was really disappointed in what I found. The manger when she saw me sitting their listening to the guy play guitar before the comdey show never greeted me or said hello. The only time I got a greeting from her was when I was in line thinking about ordering something. The comdey acts that where there where lame and insulting making fun of homeless and a lot of cussing and sex jokes. Not a night for childern. Also found it in bad taste as the roumor I herd is she is a christain and these comdians certinly did not have christian values.
Now when I was in line about to order and concidering my choices as glaced at a fairly expensive menu but that was to be expected as the food they severed was more on the healthier side but there are healthier places with cheaper prices in town. But what was not expected was the coffee they severed was yuban coffee and they still wanted a 1.49 for a cup. I passed on the coffee as part of the fun of going to some these coffee houses and cafes is having better than yuban coffee severed and especially if your going to charge starbuck prices, but the upside is that they do give free refils on the coffee. So does mc donals and I still think there coffee is better than yuban and it is only a dollar. Also the way you order is go to the counter to order then they bring the food to you.
As for the interior of the place looked run down and need a lot of love and the majority of the seating is outside or in another room that is set aside for parties to rent but the extra room did not really seem to be set up for everyday use. So if it is cold your going to feel it as most of the seating is outside as their is only a couple of tables inside where the counter is.
As for the night and being christian I left way before the comdey show was over and disappointed. As I was hoping for something a holsome from a lady with who claims Christ and from a purely non religon stand point I never like jokes that make other people look bad or put them down. So the lack of friendlieness of the manger, the rudeness of the comidians, the lack of the Christian values in action and just the fact that they are expensive and the unfriendliness of the manger and the lack of anything to do with Christ is enough to stay away forever
The lady who runs it is nice but the service is horrible, food is bland and when we go out to eat we don't appreciate being given plastic silverware to eat with. Had to go back inside and ask for napkins, salt & pepper while food became cold. New ownership please, or maybe it'll go out of business and a nice bookstore, coffee place will open in it's place.
Review Source:Okay, I want this restaurant to be successful as there none like it in the Sunland/Tujunga area. Â
My wife and I, and our 2 young kids (8, 5) visited last week. Â We had the sample platter with hummus etc., spinach wrap, vegan BBQ salad, and the spinach wrap. Â The food was decent, but came out at all different times. Â The PB and Js came, and then the appetizers 10 minutes later, followed by the grown ups' meals. Â The kids finished with their meals before my wife and I began ours. Â A little attention to the timing of food would be a enormous improvement. Â They did give the kids crayons and some games, which was nice. Â
My vegan BBQ salad was overloaded with BBQ sauce. it did contain cilantro bean salad component as mentioned on the menu. Â It was good, but lacked any real substance/variety of vegetables. Â My wife was happy with her spinach wrap. Â The sample plate with hummus was very good.
Lastly and most importantly, the outside patio area was nasty. Â Our table was facing the wall on the south side and there was an old television box, an old mop, dead vines and variety of other nasty things. Â How the owners could overlook this "eye sore" is beyond me.
So I am challenging the owners to take their restaurant to the next level. Â There is a certain expectation when dining out. Â We want to support the non-corporate/franchise restaurants, but you need to have the attention to detail that they employ. Â
We will probably try you one more time--but if the above things aren't improved upon-- it will be our last.
We love their Nana Cakes - potato cakes with bacon and cheese. Â They take a while to be prepared, but that's because it's made fresh. Â They have board games, TVs, and a nice, large seating area. Â I usually call in my order so I can eat right away. Â Erin and her boys are really friendly and helpful, and the food is always delicious!
Review Source:Wanted so badly to be wowed by this place, and some parts of our meal did definitely deserve 4-5 stars. I will absolutely come back soon togive this place another shot and would gladly update my review to reflect any improvements.
First, to great parts. The johnny cakes are just as good as other yelpers described, maybe better. My sister;s shawerma wrap was delicious. The hummus is delicious and the meat was cooked nicely. My kid loved the pancake and at $2.99, it was a deal. The 2nd half of our service was impeccable. The owner, Erin, brought our food out when it was ready and was very attentive. She asked a couple times how everything was.
The reason this is only 3 stars is this; Â The lady who took our order seemed genuinely overwhelmed. There was no one else inside the restaurant and only one person outside waiting for food. She really didn't seem to be able to multi-task at all, which means getting our food took a very long time. Even ordering took forever. The blue cheese bacon burger was not good. The patty was tiny, burnt and dry, and there was just one little lump of blue cheese in the middle and the fries were limp. Â
Next time I will order a wrap or one of the house specialties because it seems like they've got the Mediterranean food down. 5 stars for the Johnny cake!
I don't eat meat, so I ordered their Garden Burger and fries. THE BEST garden burger I've ever had! I even had to ask the cook if she was sure it was a garden burger and not a beef burger! :) The fries are great too. It's a little bit of a drive for me, but worth it! Nice casual place, nice people, great food! I can't wait to go back and try something else...which will be tough because I'll want to get that delicious garden burger again...
Review Source:Ordered a chicken kebab plate. the rice was not cooked the right way and did not have the right texture or the taste. the chicken was ok but half of was burnt and the other half was not fully cooked. the dish was not done in a Mediterranean way. the service was good. If you're expecting to get Mediterranean style food you will be very disappointed.
Review Source:This place has been practically in my backyard, but because it didn't seem very appealing from the street and always empty I never bothered to stop in. Â I recently noticed new signage and banners so when I was looking for a breakfast place nearby, this came up as a well reviewed place. Â My 6-year old son & I sat out on their patio and had an awesome breakfast. Â His giant pancake was so good, he almost finished the whole thing. Â I had the nana cakes because I love anything potato and they were delish! Â One of the staff told me they also do open mic nights, karaoke, live bands and even comedy nights. Â I was so excited and happy to find this place I came back with my husband and son for dinner a few days later. Â My husband had the gyro w/their awesome skin-on fries, my son had the mini-burger and I had the tuna wrap. Â We also tried the raw green energy drink which they make fresh and that was great also. Â The menu is an interesting mix of Mediterranean and American cuisine so when I asked the owner he explained that the place was previously an Armenian restaurant so they kept the most popular dishes on the menu. Â
They also offer a variety of vegetarian and vegan items including desserts. Â This is definitely a place I will highly recommend and will put on my list of favorites for breakfast and lunch/dinner.
Most importantly, everything we had was so FRESH! Â In fact, their motto is "we don't serve fast food, we serve fresh food as fast as we can"!
An amazing little cafe serving up big portions of healthy, comforting fare at great prices. The Jimmy Cakes and homemade hummus are to die for.
True to its name, restaurant owner Erin aims to deliver Comfort and Joy to her customers by providing a space to enjoy good food, fun and entertainment. The patio area is filled with fun knick-knacks and games and she regularly hosts musical guests to play for customers. Definitely a "neighborhood" spot for Sunland-Tujunga.
This a little back to basics cafe in a quiet corner of Tujunga. Â Erin is always ready with a smile, Â and does a great job of serving comfort food at fair prices. Â You can have breakfast all day here, Â and the Pumpkin pancakes are the bomb! Â She also serves outstanding chicken-bacon-cheese quesadillas. The hummus is great as well. Â I highly recommend you stop by and support this small business, Â where the service is friendly and food is tasty!
Review Source:My husband and I tried this new local restaurant for dinner. We found a nice variety of vegetarian options for us, along with breakfast served all day and fresh juices. The soup of the day was very tasty, and our potato pancakes were fresh and very good. We will definitely go back to try their breakfasts.
Review Source:I had breakfast there yesterday with four of my friends and it is unanimous , we all enjoyed the food and in particular meeting Erin. Â The food was very good, I had the potato pancakes with everything. Â The dish came with two very large cakes, and I could have shared this dish and been full. Â We loved that Erin left a carafe of coffee on the table and was attentive to keeping it hot for us. She was so sweet and catered to our requests with a smile. Â We showed up before the door was unlocked, and even though, due to high winds the alarm had sounded, she let us right in. Â I will for sure return, for lunch next time.
Buying the restaurant was a real leap of faith and I pray that Erin will enjoy success for a long time. Â Let's support our local small business owners!
Driving from Canyon Country to our vet in Tujunga, we wanted to find a local place to grab breakfast while waiting for our pets to be ready for pick-up. Found this little gem tucked away on Commerce. The owner, Erin, was SO personable, and her sons (Noah was at the front counter) were super-respectful, friendly and efficient! This is home-cooked food at its best! We had breakfast, which included the Johnny cake. I've recently had gastric bypass and rarely can eat more than a few bites of food in a sitting, but I seriously wanted to clean my plate! Deeeeelicious! We even got some Hummus to take home, which truly is the best I've had, and we bought some of the vegan/gluten-free cookies that are AMAZING! I'm dying to try their kabobs and we will definitely be making the drive to Tujunga just to eat here again. Ya gotta try 'em - you won't be dissapointed!
Review Source:Great food and friendly staff and great prices.
I went with a friend  last night. I had a gyro, and she had a chicken. Alot of the menu had a middle eastern flare, but I can eat anything if it's prepared right.
The hummes and pita crisps were delicious, Â The pita bread was still warm, and they added extra oil and spice to bring out the flavor of the hummus. The sweet potato fries had honey dripped on them, this was something unique and delicious.
My gyro was sizzling with a delicious sauce, and fresh out of the oven gyro bread made it taste even more delicious.
Inexpensive prices, and people behind the counter that seemed like they dug their customers.
There is seating immediately in front of the counter, in front of the storefront, a patio, and an auxilliary dining room. The auxilliary dining room is a little awkward, I'd recommend eating on the patio if it's not too windy.
Cool place, and more than happy to support a locally owned business.
Go there when your in the area!
The whole menu looks amazing. I can't wait to try it all! I wanted everything that everyone around me was eating, but once I got a taste of Nana's potato pancakes, I knew I'd chosen wisely. Â Indescribably amazing!! Â I can't wait to go back for more... and to sample some other items. Â You really can't go wrong at Comfort & Joy!!
Review Source:This is the kind of place that gives a neighborhood flavor. Â Owner Chris and his wife prepare some of the best Mediterranean food around.
I recommend any of the kebobs. Â My favorite side dishes are the yogurt with cucumber and the cabbage salad although everything I've tried has been great. Â The wrapped grape leaves (sarma) are excellent, usually in restaurants they're too oily but these are done like grandma used to make it.
They have seating inside, outdoors, in a large covered patio and also a good sized banquet hall type of place. Â
Try it out, you won't regret it.
This is one of my newer favorite places to eat and meet. The actual name is Olde Towne Cafe.
Our club had a meeting here in their private dining area. Â It can accomodate 40-50 people. Â Our club had 27 people at our dinner and it was very comfortable and elegant. Â This small hall is perfect for smaller parties, baby showers, anniversaries, small engagements, meetings, etc. They have buffet style catering which is what we had.
I was personally very pleased with the food and the service from the owner. He is very friendly. Â I love mediterranian food and the kebabs were flavorful. Â Their hommus, and other various salads were delish! Â Their prices are VERY reasonable.
A kebab plate with a couple of sides runs for about $7-$9 dollars. Â Other restaurants charge $12-15 for the same plate. Â
Try it! Â There are many kebab places in the Glendale/Tujunga area this one is a STAND OUT!!!
