I'll start by saying that that the service was excellent.  The staff was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive.  Other than that, there is much room for improvement.  The owner needs to decide what he wants this restaurant to be, both in terms of menu and decor.  The menu is an odd mix of Japanese, Italian, and, of course, caviar.  My dining companion and I opted to go Japanese.  The food was attractively presented. The sushi was fine, but not exceptional.  My house salad was supposed to come with ginger dressing (the main reason I ordered it) and while the dressing may have had some ginger in it, it tasted more like bottled Italian dressing. The decor is also "eclectic", which is fine, but I don't think a place that is trying to be an upscale champagne & caviar bar should have 3 tv's above the bar.

I think the prices were way out of line. For example, I ordered club soda with a splash of cranberry juice and a lime.  Since they didn't have club soda (how does a bar not have club soda???) I had to buy a large bottle of sparkling water. Ok, I don't mind buying a large bottle of sparkling water, but they charged me $3.50 for the "splash" of cranberry juice! So, even though it was happy hour, I paid $9.50 for water!

A little pricey for my taste.  For the price, you could get twice as much caviar here: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Ffoodfancy.net%2Fcaviar%2Fosetra.html&s=5e3b4c4dff8863adcbe069553417d93df98105621d2c9cd4bda6193edefd69c2" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://foodfancy.net/cav…</a>

I can't believe I only now just found out about this place!

Stopped in w/ the hubby for some appetizers & nice wine and it just happened to be Happy Hour. 50% off appetizers & wine...Had the most incredible caviar bites, and the smoked strugeon is beyond yummy! Our bill was beyond reasonable!

They have a great cab selection & server was so helpful and nice. Love the outdoor seating.

Great place to watch people from all over the world collide. Literally..saw an SUV full of tourist hit someone else's bumper. ;)

Next time I go, I'll bring several girlfriends. We'll eat caviar & champaign at Osetra, and the boys can sit right next door at the Cigar bar. It's a win win.

    Don't miss going here...

This place was great, great place to be seen and people watch throughout the night.  My food was excellent and was even able to meet to owner who was very passionate about each person at the table.   Definitely recommend stopping by for dinner or drinks, you wont regret it.

Osetra is a new place on Fifth Avenue and it caters to a sophisticated and  hip crowd.  Beautiful decor, very cozy and elegant.
Don't be descouraged by the name- they have a very nice variety of tasty dishes other than caviar that are reasonably priced: we loved the crab meat salad ($22)- was large enough for sharing- and the chef's selection of cheeses and meats ($25) was very nice.
The bartender Katie was great and the rest of the staff were very pleasant.
    Good luck to them all!

Came across this great new spot walking down 5th Avenue.  It has a comfortable outdoor eating area and the interior is beautifully designed.  The food was great (check out the lobster salad) and the servers very friendly.

Osetra is relatively new champagne and caviar bar on the 5th Ave strip (fall 2011 opening), located between Avenue Wine Cafe and Cafe Luna. Osetra's menu is good for the fish/seafood lovers though not very diverse. Appetizers range from $13-24 and the highest priced item on the menu is their namesake, Osetra President caviar at $1120 for 125 grams. You don't have to dive into your 401K to eat here though; many dishes are meant for two or more to share so the cost becomes a bit more reasonable.

For treats, try the Cheese Plate, a beautiful combination of three cheeses and meats ($25) as well as the Smoked Sturgeon Bites which are served on crostinis with creme fresh and a sprinkle of caviar...delectable ($20). And a Nutella sandwich? Oh yes--pressed panini with that hazelnut goodness melting your heart, strawberries and a dash of powdered sugar. That's a game-changer. ($13)

    Highlights:
    - Praise god they are open til 2am!! They are one of very few to understand that there's a market for those who enjoy dinner and drinks starting at 10pm.
    - For a champagne bar they have an awesome beer selection. Anyone with Magic Hat on tap gets a thumbs up in my book. And a host of unique bottled beers: Belgians, Germans, and a few boutique Americans dominate (I'm still talking beer here).
    - Great decor and outdoor seating. White, clean lines, European or funky Shibuya District style cafe.
    - One of the owners is a young guy from Serbia named Milos. He's personable, hospitable and has an eye and taste for quality.
