BIG fan of Outrigger, especially because there are very little options in Palacios for any decent food!
We've had the blackened shrimp, coconut shrimp, fried oyster po-boy, burgers, fried pickles and more! Mostly everything we've tried was pretty tasty and didn't disappoint us! We were only disappointed by the Balboa dip (shrimp & avocado). It was pre-packaged, mushy avocado with tiny shrimp pieces, and it was bland with no taste. We were expecting more of a ceviche type dip which would have been much more tastier, and fresh gulf shrimp was a given, but that was not evident in the dip! :(
Otherwise, we were overall satisfied and impressed. It was SO much better than the mexican restaurant or dairy queen...
This place may not look like much from the outside but being from New Braunfels I thought I was in a side room at Gruene Hall once inside so we loved the nostalgia. The fried shrimp was some of the best I've had in many years. You could tell it is truly fresh. Â I found out later the restaurant has its own shrimping boat. I also had the salad which was very fresh and good (no cheap iceberg lettuce) and topped off our meal with their homemade chocolate pie for desert. Â Wait staff was also very friendly and prices are in line for fresh fish on the coast.
Review Source:Cute, quaint little restaurant in Palacios. Â They have an outdoor seating area, but it was too windy Saturday night to enjoy. Â We came here on a Saturday to listen to some live music and drink some beers. Â Each bottled beer we ordered was brought out with a frosty mug, which is a plus plus plus in my book. We decided to order some appetizers since we already ate before coming and I highly recommend the fried pickles and hushpuppies. Â Yummy! Â I saw the plates being delivered to the other tables and they looked good too. Â Will definitely try some fried shrimp next time I'm in town!
Review Source:Will give this place 4 stars, just because it is nice to find a decent restaurant in a small community, which has been around for a number of years now. This is not 5 star dining, but take it for what it is, & you will be pleased. Fried catfish & chicken fried steak are both respectable. Solid fried shrimp. Sides of cole slaw, beans & mashed potatoes are tasty. Definitely need work with their french fries. Right from the bag to "far too little time" in the fryer, to the plate. Fix this & they get another 1/2 star. Great atmosphere & I hear their weekend entertainment offerings are worth the trip. Have been several times, & still enjoy it. Good 1/2 way stop for lunch on the Port A/Rockport to Houston route. Keep up the good work folks. Big portions at great prices.
Review Source:I really enjoyed my visit to Outrigger. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once we walked in I had a pretty good feeling about the place. It wasn't very busy, but the place had a good vibe.
Everyone in our party ordered the fried shrimp. I had the 6 piece with a salad and fried okra.
They didn't have bleu cheese, so I chose ranch. The salad was very fresh and crisp. It's usually a good sign if they take time with the salad. The only thing it was missing was some red onion. Overall it was much better than average.
The shrimp came out and I immediately went for the fried okra. Finding good crispy outside, yet somewhat firm, fresh, fried okra is a difficult task. The okra was amazing. I really enjoyed it.
The shrimp was some of the best I've had. The coating was light and crispy and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. It was worth every dime.
My tea was filled several times and we all left feeling really good about the meal and my girlfriend and I spoke about it all night.
I can't wait to go back soon.
I was here in Palacious to shoot a television pilot. Because we were staying at the Luther Hotel, which was walking distance to the restaurant, the producers made this our lunch and dinner spot.
Fresh, fresh, fresh seafood galore! Â Bay shrimp and oysters became everyone's faves. Â While most loved the raw oysters, I am partial to having them fried. I also had fried pickles for the first time and loved them! Â
The owners are down home friendly and damn fine cooks.
Table for one with lots of elbow room please! This place rocks! The Dodds are an amazing group of hosts - they make you feel like you are part of the family - which makes the amazing food even better! This is such a serious down-home cooking meal that will keep you asking for seconds... thirds... fourths.... TRUST!
I wil definitely be headed back here again - with larger pants!
We were taking the scenic route back to Houston from a friend's lovely wedding in Port Aransas and came across this gem.  Locals probably know about it, but out-of-towners driving through might not notice this slightly ramshackle establishment a step or two off the main route through town.  We almost turned around because the parking lot was completely empty, then we almost turned around because the restaurant was completely empty.  Fortunately we were immediately put at ease by Wayne Dodd, who along with his wife our waitress, and daughter, the chef, run Outrigger.  Go Dodd's! We were seated in an outdoor area that was comfortable and not overdone at all.  Perfect beach vibe!  Cervezas were offered to us quickly and we bopped to the music  (played at just the right volume) while we decided on what to eat.  All the seafood served at Outrigger is caught right here in Palacios  Cheryl Dodd told us proudly.  Boy was she right! We had a shrimp and oyster basket and a fish po'boy! Deeelish!  The po'boy bun was flavorful and soft and the breading on the fried food food was not overly thick or greasy.  The slaw was dead on.  Seriously no complaints (and I love complaining about food!) We were the only people in the joint, which normally freaks me out, but I was completely relaxed and charmed by the atmosphere, quality of the food, and style of service.  Outrigger will definitely be a highly anticipated stop when we head to the beach, and also when we return from the beach.  Highly recommended, tell your friends!
