If you have read the other reviews then you know that this is a Chicago fans hot spot; not the issue, much love for Chicago! First, I called ahead of time to see if there was a specific football game on and they said that they had it. We showed up and no game. Simple mistake maybe, moving forward...
Food: We ordered the french dip sandwich and it was tasty. Fries were great! The wings..awful. No doubt frozen. Maybe they had better days but not this day. They were very oily with little flavor. They do have decent prices for pitchers. All in all, not worth the money.
Service: Disappointment. You walk in, no tells you where to sit, no one evens says hi so just take a seat anywhere. It took forever for a server to even notice us and to give us our menus, drinks, and food.
Yes this place is a dive but I love dives! and I've been to dive that have better food and better service.
I would have never known about this place because:
A) I live in Denver
B) It's very unsuspecting in a random strip mall
Which works just fine because nothing really wowed me about this place. I went here with a friend to watch WVU play because thats where the alumni group in COS watches the games and it was just a meh experience. Besides the bartender, there was only one other girl working the entire place and the service wasn't great. She would stop by every now and then but I had to reach out to get refills, order and she didn't know what the drink specials of the day were (on football Saturday, what gives??) The menu was decent and they had a lot of bar food favorites (especially Chicago dogs since they are a Chicago bar) but 10 wings for $9? I don't think so. I like how they have have a combo where you can choose two from the appetizer list. Besides that and the huge tv, those were the only two redeeming qualities of Overtime.
This place reminds me of being back home in Wisconsin. It's cheap chairs and compressed sawdust tables screaming backwoods Sconnie'. The owners are Chicagoites and have the food to back it up.
Get the Italian Beef, dipped (wet) loaded with whatever your heart desires (onions, cheese etc.) Like it hot, get the giardiniera. DELICIOUS VIENNA BEEF, just like you're in Chicago.
Great local dive for sports, drinks and great Chicago-style food.
Oh, did I mentioned they have CHEESE CURDS?! You Wisconsin folks know, get in here if you need your fix!
Ok, I just left this place with friend who had highly recommended this bar as "THE PLACE" to watch the NFL in Colorado Springs.
The Good: They certainly have a fryer and know how to use it. I reccomend the cheese curds, which are Lady Baltimore or Sysco frozen. Also, the beer is cold and the wait staff, outside of the owners Dan and his wife, are very nice and I tipped them extremely well.
The Meh: Nothing is fresh made. I saw canned nacho cheese on nachos, frozen corn dogs and pre-made frozen fries. Even the ketchup is cheap. The bar is not filthy but not clean. The whole place is sort of like a frat house basement, from the industrial carpets and random beer lights to the unwashed bathrooms.
The Bad: This bar caters to Steelers and Bears fans, otherwise, don'f bother showing up. The owner, Dan, will change your TV without even speaking to you, although you may have been intentely watching the game on the TV he is messing with. If you tell him you are watching that TV, he will likely tell you what he told me, "It's my bar!", yes it certainly is. The TVs are ancient, the cable signal sucks and no one can work the wireless, so good luck managing your fantasy team while watching the game. I guess, I am from out of town and Dan/Wife knew that, so why be nice to me. Ultimately, I am a guy who spent 150.00 between three people over 4 hours and I guess I am not important enough to be nice to. So, I will go to BW3 or an Applebee's... ugh, next time I am in town.
Note to Dan, if you are aware of an invention called the internet, "Neighborhood haunts are only as good as their leadership." You can't be flustered or tired when it's time to make real money..., like nfl sunday. Treat customers like neighbors and stop opening freezer bags everytime you get a food order. The cost per unit of frozen is way higher than homemade. Perhaps you need to reevaluate your commitment to working hard to compete with faceless conglomerate bars. I wish you the best because you are in a tough business. Perhaps you've lost the will to compete.
6.26.12 I have since upgraded this place. Perhaps Dan was just having a rough day.
Cheers,
D
Great neighborhood sports bar. Â It has seen better days and totally needs a deco make over. Â The staff is friendly and attentive and they are more than willing to change channels to get your game on the best TV. Â The burgers are well prepared and they have a good variety on the menu.
