A warm summer night on the back porch is nothing short of amazing.  If you like mixed drinks, they are the best here.  Service is always  professional, there when you need them  and no hovering.  The menu is small, but all of the dishes are wonderfully prepared often with a touch of heat.  The downside is not enough seafood and maybe a little updating for those of us who have spent a number of summers on that back porch.

One of the highlights of our Adirondack summer is the weekend that "The Owl" opens for the season (usually the fist week of July). The restaurant offers a wonderful combination of Adirondack charm, a creative but unpretentious menu, a very nice list of moderately priced "bistro" wines, and the opportunity to spend an evening with one of the nicest staffs you will find in these parts (starting with the owners - Rich and Joanne). I should also mention that Joanne makes - without question - the best martini in the Adirondacks. Open ten weeks each year, and not to be missed. On my list of Adirondack Favorites.

Outstanding "foodie" restaurant, certainly the best we've visited in the Adirondacks over 20 years of coming up.  Creative dishes, good wine list.  Excellent romantic spot or place to take friends for a special occasion.  Intimate, elegant up-north ambience without the snooty factor that some places adopt.  Truly a best-kept secret, hiding in the middle of nowhere.

The only negative: their season is too short (just July and August this year, and we don't usually come up until early October).  If you're up in the summer, don't miss this place.

Excellent in every way.  Great steaks, fine dessert.

The Owl has been my mainstay of good food and excellent hospitality in the Adirondacks for over ten years.  I'm delighted to see them back for another summer season of skirt steak and chimichurri sauce.

Sadly, only open from April to November, but well worth the trip from Albany (90 minutes) or points north or if you're lucky enough to vacation in the Adirondacks....go to the Owl at Twilight.  The menu can be described as a Latin/Southwest take on elegant dining - a wide variety of wonderful dishes and very good service.  Last night I had a scallop/salmon ceviche appetizer (fabulous) followed by a skirt steak with chimichurra sauce (also fabulous) followed by an almond tea cake dessert with vanilla ice cream.  Also a great bottle of Spanish Rioja at a vey reasonable price.  Four satisfied customers with 2 bottles of wine, 1 before dinner drink, four appetizers, four entrees and four desserts....$315 including tax and tip but truly priceless.  We'll be back!

Having grown up spending many many weekends in both summer and winter on Schroon Lake, I'm quite familiar with Adirondack dining options. This place is in one of the oddest locations of them all, waaaay off the beaten path. Unless you're driving from Schroon Lake to ski at Gore, you'd never stumble upon it. However stumble upon it you must as it is by far the best and only true fine dining option for probably 30 miles.

The menu utilizes lots of local produce, cheeses, meats and fish. It's always nice to go to a business that you know supports the local economy as this one does. The menu falls clearly into the new american category, though it seems that many of the dishes encompass a southwestern element as well. The options vary with season and availability, but you'll often find seared duck breast, grilled tuna, lamb chops, and pork tenderloin. The wine list is a pleasant surprise containing many slightly more obscure options not seen regularly on small town menus. It seems fitting to have off the beaten track wines at an off the beaten path restaurant. Perhaps the owners thought so too.
