Lousy service, mixed up orders and a roll that was stale a few days ago offset the decor and interest of the place.  Oh yes and then getting told "well we heat the rolls"....  ckinked on the plate

Went in on a Monday, it was admittedly busier then a normal day as there was a large unplanned event happening the next day. Anyway waited 45 minutes before I had to go find a waitress to take a drink order. Tried to order a Filet but was told they were all out so I told them to bring me the largest, best cut of meat they had left, fresh veggies and a baked potato. They brought me a $27 1/3" thick steak that Dennies would have been proud of and fries, cause guess what... they are out of potatoes too.

The place is nice and historic inside,  but I would never go back for anything but the bar. Food and service was a 0.0%!!!

We went here last Saturday evening about 8:30pm. We loved the history and decor of the saloon, but the service was something we have never seen before! And not in a good way! We walked in and sat a table near the bar. There were only a handful of other patrons in the place. The female bartender came over (there was a male and a female bartender) and asked what we would like to drink. I asked her if she had a wine list and she asked red or white. I told her white. She kind of rolled her eyes and started rattling off (very rapidly) a bunch of wines. When I heard one I liked, I stopped her and told her I would choose that one. My husband ordered a beer and asked for a menu. She said sure and turned around and walked off. After she walked away, my husband and I discussed that she seemed kind of irritated by us being there. We figured maybe she was just tired, at the end of a long shift, and maybe it would be better if we moved over and actually sat at the bar. Being the considerate patrons we are, we picked up and moved to the bar right in front of her and told her we would sit there to make it a little easier on her. She seemed to appreciate that and seemed to soften a little- smiled and started small talk with us. We got our drinks and menu and ordered a few things off the food menu.

Over the next hour, we watched as this same bartender did a lot of eye-rolling, sighing, and just rude behavior to every single patron that walked up to the bar. At one point, she had a group of 5 or 6 walk in and sit at a table in the bar area and they apparently asked her for a round of waters, plus a few beers...when she came back over to the bar to pour the drinks she complained to us about having to get them a bunch of "free waters"...she continued to act like that the rest of the time we were there- we watched person after person come up and get rude, short service from her. Our food order came out a bit messed up, but not wanting to deal with the bartender's attitude, we just grinned and beared it instead of asking to get it fixed. LOL  I really felt uncomfortable with what we were watching though, and so as soon as we were done eating we got our check and left.

On a side note, the male bartender wasn't much better. We saw him yell at several busser/servers that came up to the bar- saw him freak out because a large group of people came in and went and sat in the "dining area" of the saloon (he didn't want a bunch of people sitting in "his" dining area, he yelled at a server). And he was rude to my husband when my husband asked him politely if we could get a Diet Coke whenever he had a minute.

We would not return to the Palace purely because of how miserable/unhappy/rude the staff seems to be. Left a very bad taste in our mouths. When you go out to eat and/or drink, you shouldn't have to put up with servers who make it very clear to you that you, as a patron, are inconveniencing/bothering/ irritating them.

The history of this place is the only reason it gets 2 stars. I have been here twice. Once for drinks and once for dinner. Steaks overdone, cold sides, SLOW service and way overpriced. Go in for drinks and ambience.

Good food.  Quick and easy.  Portions are above average. . .you won't leave hungry.  They have sweet potato fries and waffle fries.  Service isn't bad and it does get very busy on the weekends so the staff is busy.  They have Dr. Pepper too instead of Mr. Pibb.

Alot of history in that bar.  Posted newspaper clippings and memorabilia hang on all the walls and even in the bathroom.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because I was on a memorial ride and the waitress gave the mother the party's check instead of giving it to one of us.

    My steak was perfect.
    The Oreo pie was delicious.
    This place is NOT cheap.
There are bullet holes in the ceiling from the good old days.
    The service was really good.
I might get drunk here next time.

As I said in my quick tip, great place for old west history and a great bar, just don't eat here.  Average to below average fare at best.  'Nuf said

I so wanted to have a good dining experience here because I love the ambiance and history, but no-it didn't happen. My husband and I were there with family visiting in town on a Monday night when they had entertainment in the main dining room, and maybe that had something to do with the service. I had made a reservation a week prior for us to be seated in the saloon area. We were readily seated and received our requested drinks and ordered our dinners within a reasonable length of time.

I ordered a child's burger, the Buckaroo which came with fries but nothing else-no pickle, lettuce, nothing but a dry burger on a bun. Fries were good. My husband had the shaved beef sandwich on toast-not so good. Except for my grandson, the other meals were just okay. They goofed on his order and had to order the correct food. Problem #1 with it was that it took about 15-20 minutes. He had ordered the boneless chicken wings. I addressed the lengthy wait with the waitress, and she said that that is what happens when a special venue is going on in the other room. I stated that they shouldn't have taken my saloon reservation if they couldn't serve successfully. She retorted saying they shouldn't have taken my reservation-wow! When my grandson's meal came, it was actually chunks of chicken with buffalo sauce. Those are boneless wings?!!

The waitress could see our displeasure and apologized, served the grandkids free sundaes, and took my grandson's order off the bill. Yes, we appreciated the effort to make up for slow service and incorrect orders, but I'm pretty sure we won't be eating there again. Wish I had taken the family to another western steakhouse that we like-just not the ambiance and history. Too bad. I love the Courthouse Square and its surrounding restaurants, bars, and shops. Have to cross this one off my list for food.

I suggest going in The Palace for a drink at the bar to have some fun! And, our bill was quite high, even with taking off one of the kid's meals! Bummer.

I love the historical significance of this place.  You're walking into history when you enter this saloon through the bat-wing doors and sit at the very same bar where a drunk Doc Holiday raised hell.  However, the food is bad.  Just bad.  It really makes me sad that a place that has so much history could be so great.  I mean really great, but they've rested on the laurels of ambiance and become lazy with food quality.  The service was mediocre as well.  A server dropped a plate filled with ketchup next to our table, discussed it with another server and neither of them ever came back to clean it up while patrons stepped in it over and over again.  Finally, our server came to clean it up after many people had drudged their way through it and through the restaurant.  Not a huge deal, but it's indicative of the kind of service mentality that exists at the Palace.  This place deserves to be legendary and all the ownership and management are doing is exploiting the historical value of the establishment.  I really hope they take a long, hard look at their food quality and make the necessary changes.  It's really not that hard to do it right.

Andrew was our server full of personality and Ghost stories. The food is amazing. But the dessert is to die for. For a themed/historical and absolutley fun place I was expecting more ambiance than quality but when you eat the burbon pecan pie you will wonder why you didn't skip dinner and order another piece. We will come back every time we are in Prescott.

LOVED the history of the place. If you or your companion is a Tombstone fan, then, well, this is a must see.

Apparently, this is THE bar where Doc Holliday and the Earps drank and played poker. In fact, Doc's ladylove, Big Nose Kate, lived in Prescott till the 1940's when she died at age 90. Tons of memorabilia on the walls, and NO, you do not have to lean over people's tables to see it, like somebody said in their review. The entrance is so cool, with the saloon doors and all!

Look, we didn't actually eat there, so maybe its not fair for me to be rating the place, but for looks and atmosphere alone, I am giving it 4 stars. There's a patio, albeit small, out back if you have a pooch with you. Otherwise, wish we had more time, we would've been seated right away at lunch time. The prices, I thought, we very reasonable and they have a kids menu too. But hey, I'm from California so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to reasonable prices. He heh.

If you are here in Prescott, you gotta stop by this place. Next time we are in town, we will eat there and I'll update this review.

Being that this is my first trip to Prescott, I wanted to visit Whiskey Row and catch up on some local history. The Palace was the first stop for my husband and I who used to live in this area 10 years ago.  The decor is a throw back to the old west and you can feel the former liveliness there.

We we fortunate enough to have Jeremy as our bartender who is a fifth generation local. He made our visit enjoyable with personal accounts of spirit activity and local lore you can't just learn any where!

I would recommend the red ale made for the Palace and wings....

Overly priced by far. Steak wasn't that great. The only good thing about this place is that it is historic and provides an old western atmosphere. Definitely won't be going again but it was cool to check it out on our mini-vacation to Prescott, AZ.

We ate here during a car show on Courthouse Square. There were 11 of us and as we were at the doors at 11:00am, we were seated right away.
Drink orders were taken and delivered promptly. Meal orders were taken once we all had something cold to drink. Hubby and I split a "palace campfire burger". This burger is fantastic!! Although, not for the faint of heart! Caramelized onions, mushrooms, green chilies, chipotle peppers, pepper jack and aged cheddar cheeses, all on top of a 1/2 lb angus patty.
Our waiter was attentive, the food was delicious and plentiful and the ambience is very cool!  The prices were more than fair, the location ws perfect and we can't wait to go back!

I really do not understand people griping about prices.  Natalie got a mixed drink, glass included, for under $10.  Most places you're lucky to get just the glass for $10 .... seriously Prescott, stop being such penny pinchers.

Our bartender was friendly, drinks were strong .... and yes, cheap.  The atmosphere was historical, but didn't feel like a museum which was pretty amazing.  We didn't get dinner here, but next time we're in town we will definitely be coming back.

This historic Prescott landmark has so much going for it.  The historic artifacts and the beautifully restored building make this a very special place.  If you go to Prescott and Whiskey Row, a visit to the Palace is required.  We've been in and out of this place for 30+ years.

Tonight we decided to spend our 4th of July family dinner at the Palace and we were very disappointed.  We were seated without a wait (on a holiday, during Rodeo week?) and our drink order was taken promptly by a somewhat surly waitress.  And then the wait began.  Eventually a different waitress appeared and said she would be our server and that she had just arrived.  She said she would get our drinks and come back for our dinner order.  Then we waited...

She appeared to have three tables  and everyone was flagging her down to ask her for forgotten items.  She eventually brought our drinks and took our order.  She promised bread but it did not arrive until we reminded her of it.  We finally got our dinners and my father's order was wrong.  He ordered chicken fajitas and was served beef.  The rest of us got our correct meals but were underwhelmed with the quality.  While my sister enjoyed her ribs and my husband enjoyed his prime rib, I found the salmon to be tasteless.

The manager was very responsive when my father reported his meal was not right and when he also said he did not want a replacement.  They still gave us the chicken order in a box to go and took the meal off the bill.  Still, it was pretty pricey for the four of us who ordered a meal.

This place has a great story and it's a fun place to walk into and maybe have a beer.  I would avoid the dining experience though.  There is a lot better in Prescott.

Old West themed historic restaurant in Prescott.

Just your usual American fare such as steaks, salad,  burgers, etc.

I had the Mile High Caesar Salad with marble rye croutons.  Little cutie pie had cod fish and chips. Hubby had half a roast beef sandwich and salad.  A couple of guys dressed in gunslinger garb drew us in after a photo op.

Not bad for lunch, came to about $30.

We went on a get away to Prescott the first week of April.  Needed to get out of California.  We stayed at the Hotel Vedome, that's another review.

While walking down Whiskey Row, we were looking for a place to eat, while in a store (wish I could remember the name, they were great people) we asked for recommendations.

A couple of patrons and the employee recommended a few places, but  this one sounded the best.  They warned it was a bit pricey, but hey, we were on vacation so what the hell.

It is very cool on the inside, decorated with artifacts from back in the day.  There are still bullets holes in the ceiling.  The place is haunted, as we asked, and the waitress was more than happy to share what she has heard.

The food was AMAZING, my boyfriend had the ribeye and I had a chicken dish. It melted in our mouths and the flavour was incredible.  It has been 3 weeks and we still talk about it.  Yes, it is a bit pricey for the portions you get, but it makes up for it in quality.

Call us what you want, but we would drive the 7hours just to eat there again.  To us, it was that good.

How can you go through Prescott and not visit this place? We drove through last weekend and stopped for lunch. It's an old timey saloon with lots of historical memorabilia and such. There's live piano, too. We each had a sarsaparilla and a bbq sandwich. I'm not sure I'd eat there again but it's definitely worth doing once.

I have to agree with previous posters - do not make this one of your top dining destinations when you're in Prescott. Food is a bit pricey and very average.

That being said, I'd say it's worth a stop for a drink at the cool bar (which survived a town fire at the turn of the century... ask about that story if you're unfamiliar :D) or just to look around. There's a lot of interesting photos and articles on the walls. There's also a few display cases with interesting frontier memorabilia, etc. Definitely a fixture on Whiskey Row and in Prescott history.

Let me just say that the food is just okay. We already knew this going in, so we just ordered a few small dishes. It turned out to be pretty decent for what the place is. The atmosphere is really cool though. Loved the guy on the piano. Definitely a place to visit just because of its history!

Decided to take the family here in spite of all the negative reviews about the food. I figured that the atmosphere and history would carry the evening. What a mistake!

First of all, the food was disappointing as suspected - small portions, high price and served only lukewarm. The ribs were not the "fall off the bone" variety but rather chew it off.

The service was a mixed bag. We really liked our server; she was very nice, up beat and accommodating. However we had a weird experience with the manager. The restaurant was only about half full, and the hostess wanted to seat us at the worst possible table, sticking out in the middle of a main walk way. So we asked to take a different table that was out of major traffic lanes. She agreed and began leading us to the other table, when the manager scrambled out and bellowed his disapproval from the other side of the room. Can you say "awkward"?

Later we overheard a situation at a neighboring table that involved a woman's order being messed up. Her corrected meal was delivered way too much later by the manager who offered no apologies. In fact, when the woman politely said "thank you" for her late plate, the manager's only reply was "no problem."

The atmosphere may have once been something to experience, but now it just seems like a bad movie set. The staff clothing is uninteresting; there's no player piano or any music; no one is really "in character." It's just not FUN. There's just not enough to make up for the high prices and marginal food.

Yep... I'm a fan! And now I have my nephew hooked too... In fact, so much so that when I decided to head out of the valley for the day his vote was Prescott and directly to The Palace for the corn chowder!

Have to say that our last go around (7/11) I wasn't that impressed. It just wasn't what I had remembered. Maybe it was an off day or maybe it was what I had ordered (the veggie burger with potato salad on the side). Just kind of meh... My nephew on the other hand was over the moon for the Corn Chowder (he had ordered the soup & half sandwich but wasn't a fan of the sandwich).

This time it was back to where I remembered it to be! I ordered the *THUMB BUTTE TURKEY SANDWICH $8.95
Tomatoes, Caramelized Onions, Lettuce, Monterey Jack, Mayonnaise
It comes on the most amazing marble rye! So soft and fresh! mmmmm mmmm good!

My nephew, of course opted for the PALACE CORN CHOWDER (Cup $3.95 Bowl $4.95)

We sat on the back patio, and although not much of a view any longer (since they built the parking garage), the weather was wonderful and we were able to do some people watching which is always entertaining!

Great history, wonderful service, and just darn good food! How can you beat it! We will definitely be back!

If you visit Prescott, AZ, once our territorial capital,
you really must visit Whiskey Row. One of the historic saloons you'll find on the street is The Palace.
One of the Earp Brothers shot a man in front of it and Wyatt and Doc Holliday drank beer and played poker here. The Brunswick Bar is the original bar that was in the first Palace Saloon that burned to the ground along with most of Whiskey Row back at the turn of the century.
It's a great place to have lunch and soak up the historic atmosphere. So I give the ambience 5 stars. The food was just so-so and I would give that 3 stars. No bad but just average. We had turkey sandwiches and fish and chips.  I give good marks for the French fries and the potato salad. Our server was wonderful and attentive.
Would I eat here again? You bet! At the same time, we're looking forward to trying out some different restaurants in town.

Good piece of History here.  To think that Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp had beers here is pretty cool.  Its kind of like a museum in this place which is worth checking out.  Beer selection is not the best and the bartender was kind of a jerk.  Other than that is worth checking out.

I sat at the bar so this review is only for that portion of food and drink.  This was a great stop for refuge during Christmas shopping.  I dropped in for a Prime Rib sandwich and a local pale ale.  The sandwich was served open faced smothered with roasted red peppers and onions topped with cheese.  In a word, tasty.  The staff recommended a good Pale Ale to match and I enjoyed a refreshing lunch priced right at a total of $15.

Wonderful old building structure, interesting freaky patrons and a reasonably priced meal.  If you have'nt enjoyed the history of Prescott, this place alone makes it worthwhile!

My father was very excited to visit this restaurant due to the historical significance and ambiance. If you choose to go here for this purpose, DO NOT eat the food! Stick with the bar. My husband had a drink there and it was fine.
My father was up all night with bad food poisoning. Thankfully, when I saw my salad was brown and wilted I took it easy and did not get as sick as him. If you don't drink get a root beer at the bar and be done with it. The staff is nice. It's nice to see the antique pieces. Just do NOT eat the food- unless you love your toilet.

The real reason i am giving this place 4 stars is more because of service than the food. While the food is decent its really not more than a 3 star although i am a fan off the bbq beef sandwich.

Yesterday i came in with a group of just shy of 30 people after having called in the day before asking for the back room for only about 20 people. They happily took my reservation without much in the way of specifics as with a group of motorcyclists you never know how things will pan out. I gave a rough number of people and a time range of 1-3pm for our arrival.

We got there and they had the room ready for us and our server was all set to do separate checks and had a good plan for keeping things organized. she got all the drink orders then came back with drinks and got all the food orders. I don't think anybody waited too long for food or was without a drink long as she was always checking for refills. When the bills came everything was split correctly and all payments were done in a very organized manner.

We have done this same event here in years past and it has been a mess even with 2 severs for the group but our one waitress yesterday did a great job. There were some slight issues with incorrect sides coming out and one burger was underdone but that is more the kitchen and she was happy to fix the issues with the sides (and done fast too i might add).

Treat this place like Clark W.Griswold did the Grand Canyon. Just take it in, briefly, and then move on. Tour the walls if you haven't seen enough "old west" stuff yet. Beer selection was sparce if that. Servers were a bit on the tumbleweed side. Should have rode the Harley right into the place and changed her oil.

After a few hours of taking the Rhino's through the snow (almost getting creamed by an out of control Surburban) I just really wanted some hot food and a good, hot, alcoholic drink.  We decided to come here because the guys who swung the doors open while we looked at the menu outside were dressed like old time cowboys.

Too bad the fastest service we got was the cowboys that opened the door for us.  We waited forever for everything and the server forgot more than once that we had asked for refills or mustard or whatever.

The food was ok, I got the fish and chips.  I really liked the fries but the fish was over breaded and kind of soggy.

What I was sad about was the drinks.  You would think with a bar that big (in a cold area none the less) that they would be able to figure out quite a few unique drinks.  I asked for a hot buttered rum and I got a blank look.  So I said what do you have that will warm me up?  Another blank look.  FInally I said give me a hot coco with Baily's.  It was ok but most of the mug was filled with whipped cream.

Over all it was ok, but kind of a tourist trap.  I'll keep looking.

Why the negativity?  It's not every bar where you can walk through the original wood swinging doors, belly up to a giant 130 year old bar, throw back a shot of tequila and listen to some honky tonk piano.

And to know you're sitting in the very same bar where Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday played a little poker?  Be sure to check out the memorabilia that lines the walls from those days long ago.  Other reviewers complained about the food.  Who goes to a western saloon for a gourmet meal?  Have a beer and a shot and stop your bellyaching.

The Palace Saloon in Prescott first opened in 1877.  The 20 foot long bar was shipped complete with matching back bar and brass railings around the cape and carried overland by wagon.  It was considered the finest bar with the most luxurious and elegant furniture by the Prescott Newspaper at that time.
Since the glory of the palace beginnings, she has survived outlaws, gunman, festivals, and at least 2 major, burn the city to the ground fires.

Currently, The Palace is enjoying the face lift it was given with a full restoration in 1996.  The bar has been returned to its original splendor, the tables are beautifully attended and the menu has gone upscale.  This place is great for a treat.... get yourself off the row and into some old world charm while the rabble suck down brewskis on the rest of the row.  The Palace deserves more attention than that

I'm surprised to see this place has such low ratings, but after reading them, now I see why. I guess I'd have to agree that it's nothing like what you'd imagine a saloon to be, but the food here is not half bad. I've never had particularly bad service here, but I'm really not expecting much. I like to sit & visit with my family that lives out there in Prescott (because, frankly, I'd never set foot in that town if they didn't. Nothing against the place or the people that live there, it's beautiful & refreshing, but I'm a city girl through & through.). I've had a few meals here, one was shared appetizers during happy hour, & they've all been exactly what I expected them to be.

Now, that's pretty much a 3 star review, but I'll tell you why I gave it 4... THE BATHROOMS! I love them. They have the biggest stalls I've ever seen! & the picture of the graduating high school class of 1905 with 4 people pictured cheers me up every time I see it. I'll definitly be back again.

Needing a little road trip today, Prescott became the idea...and since I live in the North West part of the valley, it's a little closer to me than otherwise.

So of course a visit to the Palace Saloon is in order.

You can't help but giggle and think of cheesy spaghetti western entrances into a saloon when you see the genuine swinging doors.  But when you do enter, you are greeted by the sheer nostalgia of the place.  The hand crafted huge dark wood bar was carved in the 1800's in New Jersey and taken in pieces to Prescott.

Now granted, not everything is original anymore seeing as a large fire pretty much decimated the entire building, but the bar itself was toted out by some locals so it exists for us to see today.  Lots of memorabilia decorate the walls including some of the movies that had some scenes filmed there (ahh, that Steve McQueen.) and of course pictures of the famous Earp brothers and Doc.

Foodwise, I only had the opportunity to try out the Corn Chowder.  I thought I had tasted the perfect corn chowder before....THIS one made me swoon.  Nothing makes a soup better than roasted corn.  Yum.  The potatoes were perfect, not mushy.  Thick and creamy, this soup was a meal.

The service was awesome, they even GAVE me the recipe for their corn chowder soup when I asked.

Between the service, the historic story behind the place, and the soup and sasparilla, I had a wonderful experience.

Where else can you have dinner and drinks at the same saloon Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday used to frequent?  Granted, the place isn't exactly the same as it was then, but it's still in the exact same spot.  It opened in the late 1800's, burned down in the early 1900's and then reopened to become the saloon we know today!

There is a lot of history here and it still holds some of the items from the original bar.  The food is pretty good too, but I think people come more for the experience and the history of the place than anything else.

You can't really visit Prescott without stopping in this saloon.  You can even still find the original poles out front that people used to tie their horses up at!  That's how authentic it feels when you step on to Whiskey Row.  You definitely need to stop in for a steak and a beer and let your imagination take you back to the days when Wyatt Earp and his posse would walk  through the door.
