I had the Chicken Shwarma, Beef Kafka, and Gyro Special Plate...it was so flavourful and delicious. Â The squeeze bottle of Tzatziki sauce was heavenly. Â The owners were so wonderful, nice and caring. Â They were as friendly and genuine as you get. Â I will come back again and bring my family, what a great place with great fresh food. Â I agree with the previous post, this place tops Pita Inn by far. Â Keep up the great work Papa and Mama Marcos!!!
Review Source:We had a wonderful dinner at Papa Marco's on Tuesday night. I can't rave enough about this restaurant. Seriously, the food was terrific, the atmosphere was great, and the service was absolutely outstanding! The Tahini Sauce is addicting, the hummus is perfect, and the little 2 bite dessert sample I tried was heavenly. We will definitely be going back, very soon!
Review Source:I was soo eager to eat Lebanese food and I got what I needed. the owner is very welcoming, I also noticed the US flag and the owner picture in uniform. He is a veteran. Now about the food, the Kafta is out of this world, the hummous delicious, the chicken shawarma amazing. I just wished I had more space in my stomach. Finally I was impressed to realize how prices were reasonable.
Highly recommend
Great Great Food!! Awesome Owners. Waukegan was in desperate need of something other than Mexican! I visited Papa Marcos with in the firs two weeks of their Grand Opening and have been back a few times and will continue to go back. I highly recommend you try it. The rice is like no other for miles and miles away. It will not disappoint! Gotta try it!
Review Source:The first time I pulled up to Papa Marcos I was a little nervous. It's next to this awful little grocery store that looks super sketchy. Walking inside though, I was put at ease. Â Everyone was so friendly and it smelled amazing! Â
The first meal I had there, the owner brought us over some wonderful sweet cheesy pastry goodness to try. It was amazing!
The next time I ate there, he brought us some of his home made pita chips to go with our hummus appetizer. Â When he noticed the bowl was empty, he brought over another and told us 'never to be afraid to ask for more, it's like home here!' Â Seriously awesome. Â
Despite the 45 minute drive from my house, I cannot wait to eat at Papa Marcos again. Â Great food, great people...how can you ask for more?
WOW! Â The Pita Inn just got bumped down a notch and Papa Marcos has moved to the top! Â Had some friends over from Chicago who rave about all their local Mediterranean restaurants, so I decided to take them to this little gem tucked away in Waukegan - their exact words "Wow - very surprised, you actually have a good Mediterranean restaurant out here" Â
The food was outstanding and they have the best baba ganoush - which normally I won't eat anywhere else unless its amazing. Â If they have it on the menu, try their lentil soup, it was phenomenal. Â What made it even more enjoyable was they had "Kid Friendly" options too! Â Overall a great experience, I will be back frequently!
We were so glad to finally find some place nearby with middle eastern food. And it proved to be a delight - the food is great (especially the beef shawerma sandwich) and their tahini sauce is delicious. The owners are super friendly and the atmosphere is very homely. Going back for sure!
Review Source:This place is great! It is easy to miss it on the dead-man's curve on Grand Avenue. They have three distinct food groups...middle-eastern, american lunch and american breakfast. I have tried things on their menu in all three categories, and it has all been great. They have a daily special which is quite a deal. The owner's wife takes care of the front, and she is very nice and talkative. Her husband is a vet who cooks in back. The interior of this place is nice, too...a true diamond in the rough!
Review Source:For the neighborhood. Kefta kabob has bold flavors. I prefer my steak kabob medium rare. Mine arrived medium well so the texture did not work for me. Rice balanced out the meat flavors. Salad full of zest and well seasoned. Thin pita bread is very tasty. French fries had perfect crispy coating.
Chicken wings had amazing flavor which I crave, spicy and sweet. Missing the sticky but I know it can reach heights of perfection and popularity.
Assortment of traditional desserts, satisfying.
Small dine in area with a grand feeling.
Owners very hospitable. Were happy to hear my comments.
Plan ahead when carrying out. Good food takes time to cook.
Need online website. Small parking lot.
I believe this can be Waukegan's next best thing.

A little place with a lot of heart. I grew up in Chicago and I now have made Waukegan my home and Papa Marcos has that old Chicago neighborhood feel. The owners are very kind and accommodating to your needs. From breakfast to dinner there is something for everyone. The food has a Mediterranean theme but the menu crosses over to the American and Italian as well. Wonderful Falafel which is made fresh and includes a mix of rice wrapped in grape leaves that has a wonderful succulent taste. Included are a wonderful baba ganosh which is the Eggplant sister to  Hummus which is also included. Served along with a wonderful thin bread that wins over the Best Pita bread. This is all included in the Vegetarian plate that you can dine in or call ahead or to carry out as is for the rest of the Menu. The menu also includes a number of combinations of the beef or chicken Kafta or even the ever so familiar Gyros with their own homemade Tahini. They also have Italian Beef, Philly Steak along with a great burger that will satisfy your traditional carnivore. If you are from Waukegan or just visiting please stop by Papa Marcos and give it a try. We are so happy to welcome such wonderful people and their restaurant to a place they will fit right in, here in Waukegan Illinois.
Review Source:Finding a vegetarian option that isn't veggie burger for my companion can sometimes be a thorn in my side, so when I see an open door of opportunity, I dive through it head first, into a blob of hummus in this case. Â
The food here is good, and they have decent variety in their menu including some of your typical American quick serve standards (which I haven't tried) but it's really the service that stands out. Â The couple who owns the place remember customers' names and make a point to do it. Â They will take suggestions on the menu based on customers' preferences and generally go out of their way to get you what you want which I find can be atypical in the world of quick service restaurants. Â They've also made a nice effort to gussy up the space which is obviously not my top criteria of Yelp reviews, but it sure doesn't hurt.
