I've been coming to this place for a while now. I've noticed these people haven't updated a single place. The place looks exactly the same ever since I moved into the neighborhood.
They still have the same pots and the same fry tray that is beaten and bent. HOW CAN SOMEONE WHO MAKES ALL THIS $$ CAN'T EVEN BUY A FEW SIMPLE POTS AND TRAY HOLDERS???
They charge higher sales tax than normal and I HAVE RECEIPTS TO PROVE IT... Â The fries are outrageously expensive, although the food is good I must admit, but like I said WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for the type of service they give as well. THESE PEOPLE DON'T EVEN HAVE A CASH REGISTER!! HOW PATHETIC IS THAT? Â
The employees don't wash their hands when they handle food and they give you the ice cream cones with their bare hands after handling $, that's just sick! The place does look dirty in the waiting area. I def. won't be going back there, and they are a little too pricey for my taste and for the quality of food they sell.
Absolut must stop whenever coming or going from Midway Airport. Â I love the beef and sausage combo, however the steak sandwich is outstanding. Â I also make a special trip during Lent to have the pepper and egg sandwich. Â Their fries are delicious and when I ask for them crispy, they oblige and make them perfect. Â An institution in the neighborhood since the mid-50's, this place is not glam but the best kept secret on the south side! Â Ask anyone in the area.
Review Source:Maybe it is because I have coming here for years but I love the food here. Here is what I would recommend:
hotdogs, italian beef, italian sausage, itslian steak sandwich, hamburgers, ice cream, ice cream shakes and the fries!
Yes it's greasy and it's not the healthiest but it is delicious. Most people get the food to go but there is a counter there where you can stand and eat your food.
When I am hungry or in a rush I will always go here for some food. I would try to avoid the usual weekend lunch rush because it gets busy. But the food is delicious!
and yes the beef sauce and the red sauce bread is also pretty good.
Today was the first time I ever stopped at Parisi's and it will be the last. I've past it for years but never stopped in. Well my experience was one to remember. I went it for 3 cheeseburgers and some onion rings and came out with NOTHING..... I was discusted by what I saw. My order was taken by one of the three employees. He was taking orders plus handling cash and MInd You Food as awell. That's a NO NO... So I didn't say anything thought let me observe a little more and I sure did. While I was observing the female employee sneezed she didnt sneeze in her hand she turned around and sneezed without covering her mouth right on the open package of hamburger buns. So then she called up someone for their order to pay and tendered his sale . She DID NOT wash her hands and went right back handeling food to be exact my cheese for my cheesburgers. I said I saw enough went back to the order window and called the older employee to the window to tell him Please cancel my order because I saw your employees handel food and money and No washing of the hands. All he said was oh ok. Wow ! No sorry NOthing.....Must be normal service here...
Review Source:We who grew up with Parisi's love it, and for you first-timers who have expectations that you are going to a restaurant, I ask what is on your mind when you actually walk into this hot dog stand and don't see any chairs. Â If you are that picky, and these negative reviews are probably by non-native Chicagoans, then go to Portillo's, and enjoy another good sandwich that, by the way, tastes exactly like the sandwich at Parisi's. Â
It's a neighborhood place for neighborhood people. Â As kids, we could only afford the 15 cents sauce sandwich, and that probably went a long way to gain our loyalty. Â Aren't our favorite foods emotional in nature, taking us to a time when we enjoyed the experience. Â It's been there 50 years, probably still closes down in the winter for a few months, but there is no better place on a summer night. Â If you are doing the Triple D thing and touring around the city, you may not find Parisi's food to be the best, and truthfully, we only want you to go there so that you spend enough money to keep the place open for the loyal fans.
I live in California now, but Parisi's is a stop for us whenever we go to town in summer months.
Alot of 5 star ratings for this restaurant which I can't understand? Â The food is good, but it's not one of those restaurants that has that 1 sandwich that keeps you coming back. Â The beef is good, chicken sandwich- good, milkshakes are good but nothing I couldn't live without. Â The restaurant has been here over 40 years so that in itself is quite an accomplishment. Â The workers have no personalities and never add anything more than a robotic order taker could do. Â You'll often see them handling your food (buns, chicken breast, cheese, etc. ) with their bare hands.
Review Source:Jason is clearly out of his mind. I am a Chicago south side native with a passion for beef and Parisi's is tops. I've been going for years. Although I lean more to the Dog side of things, I know good beef when I taste it.
And it's not very cute to knock something as amazing as the sauce bread. For 1 little dollar you get a sammie sized piece of bread dipped and seasoned. It's totally delicious and I often buy it even when I have more than enough money for the real thing. Not because I'm CHEAP or POOR, because it's awesome!
Top it off with a chocolate malt and you have a helluva dinner.
Jason R's review is totally biased!
Parisis beef is the best around.
I am a past employee from 1982-1984 and I attest nothing but quality.
The bread you say?
Turano bread is the best around you lumpkin jason and vienna makes the best hot peppers around.
Your reviews are false and they suck, as do you.
You ARE NOT a true Chicago fan of beef...
Avoid this persons reviews to enjoy what Chicago has to offer :)
I have about a month and a half worth of reviews piling up here thanks to my friends on Facebook who suggest beef sandwich places to try on the south side of Chicago. Afterall, I'm the South Chicago Authority on beef sandwiches.
After tasting Parisi's beef sandwich, I knew this one had to be moved to the front of the pack to help warn as many people as possible in these rough economic times. Save your money. I've tasted bad - this is worse.
I ordered a beef sandwich, dry with giardinierra peppers - my standard sandwich as defined at http://www.JayRodChicago…. When I said dry, I didn't mean for the meat to be dry, as it was. I meant do not dip the bread. When I asked for giardinierra, that means I should taste the juices - if not the mixture - in every bite. It doesn't mean toss some on top to make it look colorful and pretty! And I won't even get into the bread. There has never been a more true statement than a previous reviewer's post that there is definitely better italian beef in the neighborhood.
If I was starving, I probably wouldn't even get a sauce bread, which is what they serve for the low-budget customers. Stick to whatever else you sell, Parisi's, but do us all a favor and correct your Italian beef recipe!
I LOVE PARISI'S!!!!!!!!!!!
The best beef sandwiches, dipped with mozzarella cheese and a side of red sauce. The large fry is like a pound of fries in a huge bag bigger than a brown lunch bag. Perfect hot dogs. Amazing Irish Mint and Vanilla Shakes. Soup in winter. Yummy burgers. And all of it is extremely reasonably priced. It's also very clean, even if it looks dingy on the outside. I wish I lived near Parisi's because I'd eat there every day. When I'm visiting friends out by Midway I stop in. I also know a lot of former employees and the manager and they are all awesome!
This is in no way making my opinion biased. If the food was shitty I'd tell them.
I've been going to Parisi's since I was a fetus. Â Probably my favorite place to eat in the whole world. Â Their Chicago hot dogs are top notch. Â Vienna dog, steamed bun, mustard, onion, a little cucumber, celery salt, tomato, optional sport pepper. Â Fantastico. Â Their fries are amazing, their burgers are fantastic, and their beefs are great as well. Â Running low on cash? Â Try a sauced bread--basically a beef sandwich without the beef (red sauce or gravy, your call).
Pepper and egg during Lent is great too.
