We made a reservation for 6 ppl at 6:30. Our table top was waiting for us when we arrived, but we did not like having a table top as two chairs had the back's the aile way of traffic. We sat down at the table top and order a few bottles of wine- the house is at reasonable price- all the others are overpriced for me.
Our waitress was good and pleasant. We started off with 3 apps. Â White Pizza, Calamari and Ahi Tuna. Â All tasty. The Calamari had a kick to it. There was a nice break between when we has our apps and when we ordered dinner.
Dinner was- Chopped Salad, Bad-ass Burger, Spaghetti with shrimp, mussels, scallops in a white wine sauce, and rigatoni is a spicy pork and beef ragu.
My dinner was the spaghetti with shrimp, scallops and mussels in a white wine sauce- DELISH! I would order that again hands down. The Mussels were not too big and tender and so were the scallops.
The friends that had the chopped salad said it was a wonderfull salad and would get it again. The Badass-burger and Rigatoni was so-so.
Overall Good experience and food. :-)
As a fan of restaurants in old buildings and a wine lover, I was very excited to find this place while in travel. The popcorn that was provided in place of the typical bar nuts was addicting, unique and appreciated. And any place that has a different risotto each night gets points in my book. As a carbaholic, I have to also give props to the bread basket. Yum! After reading a few of the other posts, yeah the decor is a bit hotel-like and doesn't do the architectural features of the place justice. Also, while good, I wish my entree (the chicken) had a bit more flavor and pizazz. It was cooked well but based on everything else I experienced I guess I was hoping to be saying "Yum" with every bite.
Review Source:A very unpleasant experience due to overly salty and overly cooked entrees, accompanied by extremely poor service.
Our waitress was inattentive and ignored our table after one of the entrees had to go back because it was not prepared as requested.
She said "ok" left the table, and did not return!
When the issue had to be brought to a manger, he was a bit arrogant making excuses for the entire place. We went with friends who live in town, and will not return.
Poor value at this place, and not a complimentary gesture or anything for the inconvenience.
A gem in Syracuse. Â Fine dining in casual comfort; services warm and professional. Â
The dinner menu offers small plates as well as full-size entree dishes; pasta can be ordered half- or full-portion. Â We've had nice seafood (diver scallops, sea bass, etc.), meat and game dishes, and of course, truffle fries. Â Everything is fresh and good quality, it takes a good chef to exercise discretion and control so he manipulates the food just enough to heighten and accentuate their natural flavours, Â and you can certainly taste the food in this place. Â Nothing over-fussed or overly pretentious. Â
I wouldn't hesitate recommending this place.
We have been here three times since it opened once was ok but the other two times were very disappointing. For the price the food was poorly cooked and lacked flavor. This lack of consistency at the prices that are charged will keep us from going back. To bad the atmosphere was nice. Time to the send send the chefs out for a refresher course.
Review Source:The atmosphere and ambience of the restaurant improved the dismal rating you see here. Our waitress was friendly, could have been more attentive but was generally fine. The hosts were nice and our food came out quickly.
The food, on the other hand, was mediocre (that's even going a bit far). My boyfriend and I ordered two dishes to share: the Radiatore Aniello (roasted chicken, spinach, mushrooms, other veggies in a pesto broth) and the Ahi Tuna (with baby bok choy, ginger coconut rice, BBQ sauce). Both were, again, very disappointing, so much so that I spoke up about the pasta (I didn't feel comfortable complaining about both, but in retrospect I should have). The pasta was overcooked to the point of being inedible, the roasted chicken was poor quality and was not roasted at all (I'm not sure HOW it was prepared, really). The vegetables were tasteless and the cheese on top was rubbery.
The tuna was not much better. The rice and BBQ sauce saved the dish, and the presentation was nice, but the tuna itself was not cooked properly (it was supposed to be seared on the outside, rare on the inside). Somehow, it was cooked too much to be rare, yet still partially rare. Not seared at all, and served so that it was cold within about one minute. The bok choy was watery and flavorless.
I told our waitress about the pasta and she offered to bring us another of the same one, or let us choose another. We chose Tagliatelle Toscano, which was a spicy-ish puttanesca sauce with fennel sausage and broccoli. It was not anything to write home about, but compared to the other dish it was at least edible.
We were charged for the new pasta dish and for the tuna dish. I was put off a bit by that, since I figured maybe the new pasta would be discounted at least. Regardless, we got our leftovers as quickly as possible and tipped the waitress much more than we probably should have.
Not a very good Valentine's Day dinner...I expected much more from a restaurant like Pascale's.
Decided to give P's another try. Other than an awkward handover by waitstaff, the experience was very good. Everyone was very attentive. An odd looking layout of the salad plate did not effect the taste. Steaks were delicious and cooked rare as ordered. Salmon entree was wonderful as we're all of the sides. They earned my business back!
Review Source:I went to Pascale's for an anniversary dinner with my husband and wished I had listened to some of the reviews on Yelp. The ambiance is wonderful - dim lighting, nice tables, etc. but the service was not good. Our waitress kept forgetting us, we waited for a good 20 minutes before ordering and the tap water tasted like garden hose water. We ended up having to order Pellegrino. The food was actually OK for Syracuse standards but if you are looking for fine dining you can definitely get more for your  money at other places. I ordered the chicken vindaloo and it was mediocre. I would recommend Pascale's for appetizers and drinks but not necessarily the fine dining.
Review Source:wow. Â i wanted - really wanted - to like this place. Â we've found so few higher-end restaurants that are reliable in all manner - Â food, service, ambiance - that we had fingers-crossed that this could be the one. Â not so much.
first, the good news, and it's good. Â this restaurant, after undergoing a huuuge remodel and renovation last summer, is gorgeous. Â i'm talking beautiful top to bottom, and easily the prettiest interior of any restaurant i've been to in the CNY area. Â think gorgeous exposed brick and wood, open-air kitchen, textiles, art, even bathrooms. Â someone had an eye, and really knew their stuff. Â so far, so good.
however, and this is a biggie, you ultimately go to a restaurant for the food and, to a lesser extent, the experience overall. Â i've gotta say, and i know this is not in keeping with most other reviewers here, it was pedestrian at best. Â wine list? Â extensive and fairly impressive. Â nice job there. Â bread basket came out with decent selection and presentation. Â off to a good start, we thought. Â i ordered the house salad, husband the soup of the day, which was a lobster cream soup. Â salad alright, soup lacking in flavor and very thin to the point of watery. Â oddly, both soup and salad came out within literally 1-2 minutes of ordering. Â uh-oh; this usually means things are pre-prepared and waiting and, worse, the 'let's move them along, quickly' service mentality. Â
entrees... i ordered the stuffed fluke, a staple menu item. Â it was two fairly large fish fillets stuffed with spinach, artichokes (? really? Â not sure i saw anything resembling them), spaghetti squash, topped with a (again) fairly watery basil cream sauce. Â decent. Â that's all i can say... decent. Â i'm willing to pay just about anything and be thrilled if the food is good. Â but $25 for two stuffed fillets on a plate, no accompanying side or garnish, and average flavor? Â no, not happy. Â husband got the scallops over pasta; three scallops on a very tiny portion of noodles. Â yes, this was on the "small plates" section of the menu but, honestly, it should have been considered an appetizer. Â i nearly laughed when i saw the size of the plate - think dessert plate size. Â and, again, lacking in any real flavor. Â
dessert was the highlight; we shared a warmed pound cake with pistachio gelato. Â delicious. Â but a great dessert does not a great meal make. Â we won't be back. Â if you're wondering about service, tiffany w. got it right, below. Â our waitress constantly disappeared, had no personality to speak of, and when we inquired about our missing dessert (wait, wait, wait, no dessert), she acted surprised and even agitated that we'd ordered. Â no thank you at the end, nothing. Â simply because you're willing to pay $100+ for two dinners does not mean that you should be grateful to eat there. Â disappointing.
I ate at their old downtown location before and it was the single best dining experience I've ever had so I was excited to learn about the move to Fayetteville. I went there for my birthday and the atmosphere is very intimate and upscale, somewhat intimidating, I would def. dress up a little bit to go and the food was amazing as always. The service was good, not great..they seemed a little rushed at times. It was still a pleasant experience.
Review Source:There are better meals out there somewhere but 5 stars because here in the 'cuse this is as good as it gets.
This new and improved location from Pascale is very inviting from the first steps into the bar. We visited on a Wednesday night between Christmas and New Years for a family birthday. The bar was three deep, loud, friendly and full of energy. Bar Servers were busy but pleasant. The wine by the glass selection numbers around thirty so there is plenty to choose from.
We ate in back and had  attentive service. There was a few specials that sounded tasty. A nice feature on the menu are the "small plates". There were several to choose from and sometimes a salad and a small entree is all I need. A nice option.
Just as Pascale has offered Syracuse for a long time now...this is the best in the 'cuse.
I went here with friends to have a nice relaxing dinner after a long week. Â Three of us ordered the lobster special. Â Although everything was tasty, the lobster was overcooked. Â Given the price tag, I was quite disappointed. Â I don't mind paying a bit for good food, but I don't like restaurants thinking that people will be duped into thinking anything with a big price tag tastes good.
Our service was deplorable. Â Our waiter acted like he was bored with us, and was slow to refill our drinks even though we were literally his ONLY table.
I'd like to go again, but I will order something different the next time around and pray for a different server!
So, my family chooses to enjoy a restaurant for Thanksgiving vs. cooking at home, so we have been to Pascale's twice now for the big day dinner.
What I love about Pascale's Thanksgiving menu is that it is a) customizable, and b) not only turkey. Â We had a reservation but it wasn't needed. Â Our waiter, Pat, was a phenom...really attentive and accomodating.
After dropping off our coats up front, we got a seat in the back. Â We started with glasses of wine; malbec and riesling (Alligator Hill). Â I enjoyed my riesling, and at $7.50, it was pretty affordable. Â All of us got appetizers to start; escargot, house salads and roasted root salad. Â I will speak for the roasted roots salad; various root veggies in a balsamic vinagrette and another sauce. Â I felt that you got a lot of veggies for your money ($8) and it was too much for me to finish, actually. We also had a bread basket to start, with a delicious pumpkin cornbread.
For the meal, 2 of my party got the traditional turkey dinner, which included green beans, mashed potatos, cornbread stuffing and turkey with gravy. Â I tasted a bit of it and it was good. I am not a big turkey on thanksgiving fan, so I had the cod with lemon creme sauce . Â One of the party members is vegetarian so she was able to have saffron risotto as her main meal (for $20 it was a bit of a rip off). The cod was good and there was a lot of fish for $13. Â Too much that I couldn't finish it.
I can't pass up thanksgiving desserts, so I had the bourbon spiked pecan pie which was fantastic! Others had coffee, chocolate mousse cake (Phenomenal) and the flourless chocolate cake. Â Everyone liked dessert a lot.
The prices are on par to Boston prices but really high for Syracuse. Â I loved the selection of meals and the service was great. Â Pascale's can use a interior makeover and parking can be tricky on non-holiday days. Â Definitely try this place if you want upscale dining.
Five stars all the way!
My colleague and I ate here while in Syracuse on business, and boy, were we happy we did. Â Our client recommended the place, and we couldn't thank him enough the next day.
I had the venison wellington, and was DELIGHTED!!! Â My colleague and I tried the risotto appetizer. Â Mmmmmmmm. Â It had aspargus and celerac (which the waiter kindly explained was from the celery family). Â My colleague, who doesn't like vegetables enjoyed the dish immensely. Â
I could go on and on, but I don't think there is any need. Â Prices seemed reasonable to me, but I come from Chicago and dine out often on business, so my perspective may be different than others. Â The wait service was EXCELLENT. Â The very very sad thing for both my colleague and I was that we did not dine here until our last night in Syracuse. Â If we had discovered this place on our first night, suffice to say we would have been back every night after that.
In short: fantastic food; great service; ok pricing.
I had the Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer, a house Cab, and the Steak Frites. The Tuna may have been the best version of this dish I have ever had. VERY well done, and the sauces were fantastic. The Steak Frites... the steak was cooked perfectly. The salad that accompanied it was very tasty. The fries were... well... just OK. I'm used to Steak Frites coming with the (very) French "shoestring" potatoes. These were thicker, and just... OK.
The service was very, very good. I got suggestions, attention (but not in-my-lap attention), and pleasantries. Perfect.
Overall, it was a great dining experience. I'm glad I looked on here before going to verify the 1 personal recommendation I got. It was WELL worth it.
Note: the pre-fixe menu that has been mentioned on here was a limited time offer, and is no longer available.
Granted, we had the special "SU Graduation" price-fixed menu, but I was unimpressed with the place.
The service was not bad, it just wasn't up to the standard I'd expect. The staff, while numerous did a poor job of delivering food together, setting proper silverware. Even small things like, yelling to each other across a table, or taking orders in a regulated fashion.
The food was a solid *** stars. As I say, we did have a price fixed menu, but the table found all the food to be dry, or over-done.
Ambiance was nice, but not fantastic. Our table was large enough that you had to shout to be heard across the table.
Decent, even good~ish, but likely not worth the price.
I give this place a solid 4-star review****. Â It aspires to Fine Dining, and all of the dishes were generally of high quality. Â Each of us started with a salad (yummy) and split an order of the gnocchi. Â I found the gnocchi a bit disappointing--first, because there were only 4 of these pillowy confections and secondly, the sauce overpowered the gnocchi. Â The sauce was good but a bit *too much* IYKWIM. Â
The entrees were outstanding. Â Our waiter said that the scallops were "the best in the world" and while I don't entirely agree, they were some of the the best that I've had in Upstate New York World. Â
We did not have dessert. Â I had a coffee and baileys--served in a wine glass!!! Â
Our waitron was not engaged or engaging and tended to our needs in a perfunctory manner (see! that word again!). Â I also found the ambiance a bit lacking, and not as cool or chic as others have reviewed. Â
The valet made fun of my friend's parking/driving. Â Hey dude, it's only her first week with the mini-van. Â You should make fun of the mini-van but not the driver...
***the Upstate World 4-Star Review. Â Same standard do not apply in the Greater Culinary Universe
I'm not much of an experienced Syracuse restaurant-goer but if you get a chance to go downtown, this place is hands down amazing. The ambiance is very relaxed with chic interior design/lighting and live music also contributes to the lounge-y feel of the place. The service was relatively prompt and the food was absolutely delicious. I went with two other people and we all got different meals to share family-style; each one was extremely satisfactory. (I personally recommend the free range chicken, which was terrifically juicy and flavorsome.)
We were all pretty stuffed after dinner but couldn't resist ordering from the dessert trolley that had been traveling around the room and tempting us throughout the evening. You can also just get dessert take-out without eating there if you're in the mood for a quick sugar fix.
I'm still a student but Pascale's main crowd is a bit older and upscale. Don't let that stop you from whetting your appetite here though - Lord knows you can subsist on dining hall food for only so long.
Ate here twice: once, my freshman year at Syracuse for the inevitable father meets boyfriend date, and last week for a rehearsal dinner. Both times were amazing! I specifically recommend the rehearsal dinner. The food (juicy prime rib & mashed tatoes) was delicious and a superb open bar. The private room was beautiful and I didn't ask for anything the whole night.
Review Source:It is so nice to finally have found a real classy fancy restaurant in Syracuse proper. I will say, though, that even at a nice dinner, you can't escape the more annoying of the Syracuse girls... strewn all over the restaurant (anywhere except at their tables) yapping away on their cells like they  own the place.
But... the food was so great, and thank goodness Pascale provides us with a reason to get all dressed up again!
Pascale's is one of the reasons that I'm poor! Â Every time I'm in Syracuse I feel the need to eat here. Â I've organized parties here, met friends for dinner and had romantic evenings all inside of its hallowed halls.
The food is SO amazing. Â I HIGHLY recommend the antelope (venison) wellington. Â I have had it 3 or 4 times and each time I find it more enjoyable.
Their appetizer list is enough to keep your tummy happy without even looking at the entrees. Â However, do yourself the service and look at them anyway. Â
The staff is very knowledgeable about wine pairings and is also comfortable giving details about food preparation. Â The waiters/waitresses are friendly, quick and attentive. Â I appreciate an expensive restaurant in which the staff lives up to the prices.
For the last party that I planned at Pascale's I ordered a cake from their bake shop. Â AMAZING is the only word I have for it. Â Everyone loved it and we still left with a huge amount leftover. Â It was very reasonably priced for the amount that we had and the beauty of the cake.
I highly recommend Pascale's for anyone with a discerning palate and an interest in some fine dining in the city of Syracuse. Â It is truly the best of the best!
This restaurant is the epicenter of fine dining in Syracuse. Â I was traveling to Syracuse for business over a two and half year period and found myself eating at Pascale's at least once or twice a week. Â It is in the middle of the Armory Square which is where most of the bars and restaurants are. Â If you go there often enough, you will see every local politician and business leader having dinner or meeting for drinks.
The food is solid. Â There is nothing particularly unique but all dishes are prepared well. Â The steaks and seafood dishes are very good. Â The menu changes when access to interesting ingredients become available. Â Remember, we are talking central New York here. Â I had an ahi tuna that was memorable. Â The wait staff is very good at making recommendations.
One of the great things about Pascale's is the wine list. Â Chuck, the owner is a real wine enthusiast. Â He worked at a FInger Lakes region winery with John Williams of Stags Leap before venturing into the restaurant business. Â
If you are in Syracuse and need a solid four star restaurant, Pascale's should be on your short list. Â It has an elegant decor and a very professional staff. Â The owner walks the dining room floor making sure guest are happy with their experience.
