The first thing you notice when you walk in is the overwhelming smell of mildew.  The two waitresses on duty were friendly enough, but the one who actually served us was pretty much clueless.  She tried to take our food in the middle of our meal, she didn't tell us about the split/share fee until after she had served us,

My husband and I shared the Greek Pork chops.  The salad was decent, the portions were large, but other than the greek potatoes, the rest of the food was fairly tasteless.  The pork chops, which looked really good, were tough and tasteless.  Our son ordered the "baked" ravioli and it was soggy and overly cheesed.  The rolls, which also looked really good, were very dry and the desert was dry and soggy all at the same time.

The owner of the place came out and wandered around the restaurant and then sent the other waitress out to ask if it was our truck in the truck parking lot.  He never spoke to us, and we were the only people in the joint.

There is also a note on the BACK of the menu about a minimum of $1.75 charge for each person in a booth.

Not a very good experience, and we'll never go back.

Returning from southern Illinois via Rt. 47, my husband and I stopped at Pete's for lunch.  The food was absolutely awful.  I had ordered buttermilk pancakes, usually a safe choice.  The pancakes weren't very good, and I ate less than half.  My husband had ordered a "melt" of beef and cheese on a pita.  The beef was indelibly dry.  The cheese on top was so rubbery that he could bounce his flatware off it.  That was also left on the plate.  The worst thing we encountered, though, was the bathrooms.  The women's room had the overpowering smell of methane, to the point I could barely breathe.  My husband said the men's room was the same.  I wished I had gone in before we ordered, instead of cleaning my hands with a wet-wipe in the car.  Believe me, we'd never have stayed in the first place.

I travel for work and found this little gem when I saw the sign while getting fuel. I don't have the privelage of eating home cooked meals so this was a real treat. I had a salad with thousand island dressing that was made from scratch. I also had the chicken noodle soup with hand made noodles.  YUM! My husband had the walleye which was baked and seared. He got a greek potato as a side that was bursting with flavor! Plus the rolls came with optional freshly churned butter. How can you beat that? I am not a reviewer that eats at chains or fast food either because those are processed and disgusting!

Most of the food is gross, and is very very very overpriced

Can't really complain too much about anything at Pete's. It wasn't my choice to stop here, but it sure beat Hardee's.
The place is very, very clean. I liked the decor, very casual. Our waitress was one of the sweetest people I've ever been served by. Very polite, lots of smiles.
As for the food, well, I have had better biscuits n gravy. The gravy was really spicy which made it hard for me to taste anything else. My biscuits and poached eggs were a bit overdone. The size of the meal relative to the price was decent though, so now we are on the road with full tummies.

The waitress was rude from the start.  The meals were too large, especially when you are travelling.  But, you can't split anything without an extra charge.  Lettuce was brown, fries were cold, corn beef and turkey could not be eaten due to toughness. We had a party of six and the only thing really edible was the pie.

I can sum this up in one sentence:  Terrible food and Terrible Service. Will  not make that mistake again!

Gross! I ordered the veggie pasta it came with salad and a dessert. Pasta was ice cold, salad came without the ranch dressing I ordered, once I finally got my dressing I poured it on to find the bottom was filled with water. They brought out two tablespoons worth of dessert some sort of apple thing. I was about to ask for a real portion when I tasted it. It was literally scraped out of a can apple filling. I threw down my money and left. Yuck never again!

The food is decent, and the portions are pretty good for the price.  The decor is quite eclectic, but the people seemed nice enough, and I'm a fan mainly of anyone who tries to run a single, small-town establishment in an age of fast-food chain-everything.  Pete does pretty well.

You take a place like this and put in the Chicago metro area and I am certain that it will get no more than three stars. There are many similar places to it in the Chicago area. A place like this that serves good food, fast, friendly service, clean dining room, and reasonable prices would still have some stiff competition in the Chicago Area. You take a place like this and put it off the highway in the town of Dwight and you have a diamond in the rough.

As I mentioned before, everything here was solid and we were not disappointed. Nothing knocked our socks off but we enjoyed our meal. With the endless amount of signs for fast food off of highway exits, it is great to see an independent business as one of my choices. I grow weary of seeing the signs for all of the chains all of the time. This place is a recommended stop from me!

As with pretty much all the other yelpers to review this place, I dropped by on my way to St Louis from Chicago.

The kitschy greek decor is intriguing, yes, but the white and brown iceberg "greek" salad that my boyfriend ordered was repulsive.  However, my soup (similar to most of these greasy spoon family restaurant types) was solid.

Rule of thumb: if forced to eat at one of these such establishments, order the soup.

I stopped for breakfast on my way south to St. Louis from Chicago not expecting much, but a change from fast food and was pleasantly suprised! The food was delicious! I had the asparagus omelette with ham and mozzarella and I'd definately recommend it. If you have a few more minutes avoid the three plus fast food joints surrounding it and go home cooking!

I have stopped at Pete's many times over the years traveling between St Louis & Chicago.  My wife and I both stopped there recently and had a disappointing meal,  I started with a salad full of brown lettuce, so I skipped that.  I was then served an open faced Turkey sandwich, and the turkey was tough and rubbery. Took a few bites and said not me.  My wife also had a Turkey Panini sandwich and did not eat hers either.  She said hers also had a "funny" taste to it.  We brought this to our waitress's attention and she said our taste buds might be off because of the heat.  When I showed her the brown salad she said "yeah, I noticed that when I picked it up".  We paid our bill and left the meal on the table and went to Bloomington to get something to eat.  That will be my last trip to Pete's.

3.5 stars.  Great place to stop while traveling on I-55.  Family-friendly diner. We stopped here on our way back home to Chicago.  I was trying to avoid fast food (ok so grilled cheese and pancakes aren't much better for the kiddos but it was nice to get out of the car).  Friendly service, food was good.

Food is ok, but nothing special.  It has a pretty average menu for a greek owned place.  One recommendation would be the apple pancake for breakfast.  It takes about 25 min, but is worth the wait.  Another good one is the saganaki for a lunch appetizer.

Great little family restaurant/diner just off of I-55 in Dwight.  About 80 miles south of Chicago, it's a good place to stop for a meal on your way downstate.  Meals are pretty cheap by Chicago standards, but seem a little pricey by small-town standards. Maybe the location warrants it.  Menu is huge, with notably more specifically Greek options than you'd see in your typical diner.  I can't give five stars because they still allow people to smoke in the restaurant.  Still worth a stop-by though.
