The beer is definitely the star of the show here, as it should be. I was a little disappointed in the selection that they had to offer. I probably wouldn't have been if they'd left the beers that weren't available off of the menu/board. The food was limited, yet decent. I'd like to see some other app selections other than pretzels and nuts, but I can see what they're trying to do here. My biggest gripe here was the service. The people working there are just not engaging. I watched people hemming a hawing indecisively as they tried to order beers. The bartender offered no suggestions or advice to the customer to help them along with their decision. Maybe I came in on an off day? The whole atmosphere in there just kinda seemed sterile to me.
Review Source:Went  On a Tuesday night August 27th 2013 6pm. The bartender was rude, out of all their local beers, self service, when the bartender/waitress collected our empties did not even bother to ask if we wanted another round, peanuts in a bag, 4 in our party, felt like they did not need our business?
Review Source:I am rating this restaurant on the food alone. Maybe I expect a higher quality of food at a brewery. Too much of the menu appears to be store bought. The soups appear to be purchased and not made there. Their soft pretzel appetizer is also store bought. Their pulled pork seems to come from a giant vat of supplier made tuna-consistency meat. I wouldn't come back.
Review Source:I really liked this brewery but have to give it 3 stars for the service.  The brewery does not have traditional wait staff.  Customers order at the counter and take their beer to an available table.  The food is also ordered at the counter/bar and it is delivered to the table by staff .  When the brewery is not busy it really wouldn't be a problem but when we were there the place was really busy.  So bottom line, you  have to wait in line to place another beer or food order.  The food menu is very limited but the sliders were good.  The brewery does have great potential.
Review Source:This is one of my favorite breweries now. Â They have great quick food options that are really good and the beer is great. Â We were passing through and stopped for lunch. Â I had the pork sliders which are served on pretzel buns so don't worry about ordering the pretzels because you'll get them as buns.
The beer was really good make sure to get the sampler. Â Grab the sampler menu at the register and pick your favorites. Â I highly recommend the Petoskey Dark Knight IPA.
All in all I wish I lived closer to this place so I could visit again and become a member for the mug club.
I went to Petoskey Brewing with a group of friends while we were camping at the state park. It was definitely a good find. Great craft beer selection. Food selection is limited, but good as well. It's an order up front/ seat yourself restaurant which also to speed up the service. I definitely recommend a visit.
Review Source:Try the pulled pork sliders, they come on these little pretzel roll buns that are really soft and tasty. Lots of hop-heavy pales to choose from; all are good. Â I'd imagine this place will get packed with obnoxious yuppie tourists come summer, so keep that in mind. The people who sat at the table next to us decided to leave when they learned you have to order food at the bar. Please feel free to go drink Bud Light at Applebee's if that is an issue for you.
Review Source:Great new brewery. I drove up from Traverse City and it was worth the trip. Cool space, great beer, awesome and fun staff. I had a great time hanging out and sampling the beers. If youre into Belgian style beer, Horny Monk won't disappoint. The porter and stout are also great. Absolutely worth checking out.
Review Source:What a classy operation. Â They've only been open since September but already they are distributing kegs to local businesses and bottling. Â Soon they will be canning as well. Â And it's not just your average brew that they're working with. Â Everything I tasted at their brewery was exceptional. Â My favorite was the Hopsessed double IPA. Â
Their brewery is clean with a very cool decor. Â High ceilings, cement bar (with Petoskey stones, nice touch!), brick walls, high and low tables for groups. Â There's a TV at the bar showing the latest Warren Miller movie and cool jams playing overhead. Â
They have a couple sliders to choose from, a soup of the day, and pretzel bites. Â My husband and I did not have any of those, instead choosing to focus on the beers. Â It seems like Petoskey Brewing has done the same--working on perfecting their beer before jumping to a full-blown menu. Â It will come with time, I'm sure. Â
This is an excellent place to visit after a long day skiing, or golfing if it happens to be summer. Â Grab a growler to take back with you to your party, or take home on Sunday before you head home.
This place is in a really cool building and good location, so it has great potential. I was here on a saturday evening, it was not too busy. The beer was good and the food was good. The sliders served on a pretzel bun are a nice touch. The clientele here was very mixed. There were youngsters, middle aged, and older folk here. The clientele when I was here was very friendly.
My main complaint would just be that the staff was not very talkative. We may have just been there on an off night, but a good brew pub is also made by a friendly staff. The selection of beer seemed to be mostly IPA's (which was good) but a little more variety would be nice.
It is so neat that after 100 years, this old building is once again home to a brewery! The last time I was here they had just opened and I was impressed that they already had all of the kinks worked out and were serving a decent variety of really solid beers to a huge crowd. We were able to get a seat by making friends with some people who had a little extra room at their table. On a more recent visit, they are now serving soft pretzels and three types of sliders. The pretzels were fine and came out of the kitchen surprisingly quickly. So far I've been very satisfied with the quality of Petoskey Brewing's beer and I look forward to trying more of their seasonal specialties.
Review Source:I'm a fan of this bar. I enjoy my experience every time I visit, but they are still working out the kinks at this place. Some of the little things that I will mention are the only reason I gave this fine establishment a 4/5 instead of a 5/5.
Beer:
Pro: Very tasty and a decent sized selection. Also, the simple fact that they exist is a huge pro in my book. Every good town needs a brew-pub with good micro-brews.
Con: They need a larger variety on tap. Â I can tell that they're still getting started and working out the kinks of running the bar, so I don't blame them for having more IPA's than anything else. I've asked the staff a few times what their favorite beer here is and they all mention one of the IPA's so I'm guessing that's how they decide what to put on tap. I recommend getting a flight of beers to help decide which is your favorite because they are all very good. Rating - 4/5
Staff:
Pro: Friendly, well-mannered, and clean.
Con: I sometimes wish they'd talk to their customers more. They often seem quiet, I enjoy conversing with bartenders even if I go alone or with friends and the staff seems distant most of the time, even during slow hours. Rating - 4/5
Food: They just added a few different selections for food. Nuts, pretzels, and sliders. The food is all good... it just all seems like something that could be purchased in bag at Gordons Food Service. The staff has mentioned a few times that they want to get pizza on the menu eventually, but they've also said that their kitchen is very small, so that seems unlikely. People would probably appreciate some snacks for free, but then they'd have to raise prices on the beer which is one of the main draws. A pint is only $4, which is very affordable and makes PBC an attractive place to go on a Friday night. I give them a 3/5 on food, but I'm not going to weight this one at all since the main draw for PBC is the beer and that's the way it should be. If you want good food at a bar, go to Palette Bistro or Whitecaps.
If you enjoy microbrews, then I highly recommend checking out the Petoskey Brewing Company. If you really enjoy it, then ask about buying a mug. They seem expensive at first, but it's actually a very good deal.
My wife and I had just left this very disappointing bar up the road and were sad by our choice to stop there. We were driving through the very dark countryside up and around the road, THEN like an omen this white neon beacon cut through the darkness and it says "BREWERY"!!!! Without any doing by myself the car just turned in to the parking lot.
We walk in and its one of these old brick buildings that has been converted to this new place. It seemed a tad bit like they were trying hard to be cool, but I went with it. I ordered the Dark Knight IPA and my wife got Leaf Maple Peeper Maple Brown. Along with the beer we ordered a trio of sliders. The beer was excellent. I wish we were staying nearby because we wanted to enjoy more. They did have beer to go, but all the growlers were sold out....well except for a $35 stainless steel one. The sliders were pretty good they were pulled pork, meatball and chicken. The chicken wasn't my favorite, but the pork one was top notch.
