This was my and my husbands favorite place to go in the Montgomery area when we just wanted to get out of the house, before I became pregnant (hey this town is boring and he's HOT). Now that we're a bit older (I'm 30), we want to go out earlier than 10 pm and still be around other humans, and actually speak to each other at regular volumes. This place is great for both those things. The absolute BEST part though, is that they started serving Goose Island beers (312 omg)!! Also, I am moderately (heavily by Montgomery standards) tattooed and this is really the only place I saw others of the same fortune, and I don't get gawked at. The bartenders could be a little friendlier, but they are attentive and quite decent (again by Montgomery standards). Oh and we came here for NYE and I got WASTED on mostly free beer & champagne. I think.
Review Source:A cool place because it's not downtown and it's in a relatively new development that keeps the riffraff out. Not very big interior so it can get a little crowded, but people are well-behaved so the noise level isn't ridiculous. Tap selection is solid and seasonal though certain taps can run ~$10. The bar is pine, as the name suggests, but other than that the decor is pretty standard.
It probably depends on the night, but the crowd skews older and plaid-jacket-wearing. Â On a weekday evening most people seemed like older Montgomery white-collar (tweed collar?) types who just got off work. There is a basic wine selection, and although there is a full bar here I didn't see anyone ordering anything other than beer or wine. Compared to your other drinking options in Montgomery, this is a chill, quieter place.
My favorite bar in town. A great after-work place with reliably interesting variations of draft and bottled beers. The atmosphere is very pleasant - the woodwork of the bar itself is quite impressive. The crowd usually consists of mature professionals, which keeps the place relatively quiet and low key, though a younger crowd does show up in the evenings and on Saturday nights, when things do get rowdy at times. This is a great place to have a quiet drink before heading out to dinner at True next door.
