Got the BBQ pork plate. Â The meat itself was pretty good and lean, which I like. Â Good flavor. Neither of the sauces were that good. They had 2, a sweet one and a vinegar based, I stopped using them after I tasted them and just ate it plain. Â Stew was not great, flavor was not there and way too much corn in it...more like corn stew than Brunswick stew. Â Sweet potato fries were good. Â If up there again, I would try somewhere else first.
Review Source:Pros: Â Very friendly waitresses, Fried Green Tomatoes, Onion rings, sweet tea and peanut butter pie were all very good.
Cons: Â Pulled pork was dry dry dry and had really no taste. Â Garlic salad was not fresh and just didn't taste good. Â Only ate about 1/4 of the salad. Â
Conclusion: Â Will probably not go back.
Spent our honeymoon in the Blue Ridge area. Â We were told the BBQ here was the best around and the garlic salad was to die for....boy were we disappointed.
I tried the pulled pork and my wife had the brisket. Â Both were dry and the sauce (the only one available) was mediocre at best. Â As for the garlic salad, it was decent but certainly was not anything special.
On a good note...the staff was very pleasant and helpful and the joint had character.
We had hoped to experience some local flavor by going here. Â It was rated highly by the company that we rented the cabin from. Â However, we were sorely dissapointed. Â My wife and I had the pork plate, and the pork was chopped pork, and was dry and cold. Â I had the macaroni and cheese as a side and it was very bland and I am not sure it was "home-made". Â We also tried the brunswick stew and it was nothing to be impressed with either. Â My daughter had chicken tenders that were just ok, and my son had the half chicken which was also dry. Â Everything was just kinda meh.... However, my wife did have the baked potato as a side, and said that was the best part of the meal. Â We should have known something was up when we didn't smell that familiar, smoking smell when we drove up.
Review Source:Atmosphere or Food?
-Staff was very very friendly ready to help
-The cleanliness was good not great
-Prices were inline with everyone else
-Decor/atmosphere is what you dream of for a BBQ joint: awesome
-Sides were great fresh made
-Meat was good, it had some fat and some smoke flavor
-Sauce was like spaghetti sauce with a little BBQ seasoning sprinkled in
-I walk away loving the atmosphere and staff and wanting a better sauce
I love my hometown BBQ places. I have been going here over the years, to watch it grow, and enjoy the same delicious food. I'll get right into the recommendation, which may make you raise your eyebrow higher than the Rock does: When you go to the Pink Pig, you have to try a garlic salad.
Now, I know what you're thinking. Who in the world gets a SALAD at a BBQ restaurant?! While I'd normally agree, since my go-to indulgence at BBQ joints is pulled pork, mac n cheese, cornbread, collard greens, all washed down with sweet tea--I'd have to tell you, this is the best dressing you'll get at most places. It's addictive.
The BBQ itself is pedestrian at best, but the sauce is great (I'm a really wet BBQ eater), and the slaw is good as well. Sweet tea here is perfectly made, which is essential to a good visit to a 'cue place.
One thing to avoid: potato salad. I've just never been impressed with their Tater Salad here. Save room for garlic salad instead.
Ladies and gentlemen, I have two words: Garlic salad
It is so wonderful. I don't even go for the bbq, but the garlic salad. Its unlike anything anywhere and so good.
They won't tell you what's in the dressing, so I can only assume it is made from the tears of angels.
Tryit and you can buy a bottle of the dressing to take home!
Pink Pig is a gem. The food is so good, friendly staff, fun environment, family dining room style, cozy tables. We have tried so much bbq and thought we had tried the best in Dallas at "Hard8 BBQ". That changed after this place!! I am a bbq fan and love smoking my own recipes. The head chef "Alice" came out to say hello after she had heard I am an "at home chef" and took the time to speak to me and give me a kitchen tour!! We walked away with some food for the road and will always remember the staff & food during our experience. You MUST try this place. It's the best bbq in blue ridge!
Review Source:Terrible. The worst BBQ I have ever eaten.. It was a group of 6 of us all extremely hungry..Each of us had the pork platter or the pork sandwich.. I had the platter with mac n cheese and fries.. The pork was dry, tasteless and quite frankly bad.. The mac n cheese was the WORST I have EVER eaten..Seriously tasted like a bad version of krafts..NO WAY it was homemade..The fries were decent kind of soggy. The best part of the whole meal was the sweet tea..
Being from Charleston,South Carolina I expect good BBQ not great bc there is nothing better than Carolina BBQ! Dear North Georgians, learn how to  cook good bbq and have better sauce.. Come to SC and learn!Thick ketchup base with vinegar? Ouch.. Plus it would be better to not have the Cattlemans bbq sauce container sittin right in plain view.
I had high hopes but this Charlestonian is sticking with good ole South Carolina BBQ!
I have to agree with Chris H here. Â I am from Charleston, SC and we have some great bbq here. Â This place was complete garbage. Â There so called home made sauce came straight from a big plastic Cattlemans bottle. Â The green beans were straight out of a can and bland. Â The mac and cheese was inedible and had a strong taste of mold, not blue cheese taste but like it was weeks old. Â As for the bbq it was so dry our table of 6 used the entire bottle of bad bbq sauce. Â The sweet potato fries came from a bag of Ore Ida frozen sp fries. Â I wouldnt typically go out of my way to write a bad review but this may of been one of the worst meals I can remember. Dont be fooled by the cute name that may suggest a good local bbq spot. Â You may be better off in Blue Ridge by trying one of the many restaurants that are simply named RESTAURANT. Â Im willing to bet it would be better than this garbage.
Review Source:According to the locals its a lot better since the new ownership, plus it was featured in Southern Living which has given it a slight boost in the down home southern comfort food direction.
Very quaint but very homey. I came here with my family last weekend and we all enjoyed it. The Sam's Special is a pulled pork sandwich with chips and a pickel for only $5, I think all of us ordered that.
The onion rings are SUPER greasy, i would stay away. Jalapeno poppers were typical but yummy, and they have vinegar based BBQ or a sweet BBQ sauce, either one is delicious.
Great BBQ!! Â Great service!! The family stopped by here after a hike around Blue Ridge Lake. Â I wish I had our waitre' name so I could include it here, but she was super nice and made us all feel at home.
The restaurant is small and the atmosphere is warm and very local. Â I think we were probably the only out-of-towners there. Â The pork sandwich was excellent and so were my side of sweet potato fries. Â They have two types of BBQ sauce (vinegar based sauce and a sweet BBQ sauce- both were really good, and not too vinegary as I saw in other reviews) in squeeze bottles at the table so you can try them both, and use a little or a lot. Â They also have a roll of paper towels at the table in case things get messy. Â All around a good restaurant and one I am getting hungry for again as I write this review.
Ate here with the family on a busy 4th of July weekend. the place is cute, but not small or cozy. Â Everything was edible, but not extraordinary. Â Chopped pork sliders were free of gristle, but not very flavorful - almost dry. Â My son enjoyed the ribs, but his hand-cut fries were greasy and less appetizing. My daughter loved the display shelves lined with pink pig figurines. Â The Brunswick stew tasted strongly of artificial smoke flavoring.
Review Source:LOVED IT.... small, quaint, little place with big bang flavors.
As you walk into the log building you'll find a cozy dining area with a huge fireplace at the end of the room. Â I ordered the pulled pork plate with fresh cut sweet potato fries and baked beans. Â The portions are huge, I could not for the life of me finish all of it although it was soooo good I just wanted to keep eating. Â Unlike some places, the pork was not slopped with bbq sauce. Â You had a choice of thier vinegar based bbq sauce or a sweet bbq sauce. Â The fries were fresh cut, crisp and delicious, my mouth is watering just thinking about it agin. Â
What would a Georgia bbq meal be with out some home made peach cobbler for dessert?! Â We weren't even thinking about dessert but the table next to us ordered one and we had to as well. Â We were busting at the seams but had to order one just to taste. Â It was, as expected, delicious!
The service was prompt and friendly and the food well worth the drive.
I have been to the small establishment 5 times I do believe.
They have some really great bbq, but then again so does most places in the north Georgia Mountains.
Don't confuse this place with all the pig tombstones scattered around, most people think that place is the Pink Pig, it is not.
I have only had pulled pork and beef here. I like the sauce they use, like other reviewers have mentioned on here it is a bit vinegary.
One reviewer gave this place a 1 star review, it must have been extra bad or he had it in for this place because I can't imagine being that terrible.
I would suggest swing by this place if you are headed to the Apple Festival or to Blue Ridge for some reason.
I am sorry I have to give the place a 1-star but I couldn't find anything lower. Â
The sad part is that this place has a great BBQ atmosphere its just too bad you can eat atmosphere becuase the food was bad.....
I wanted to like it, I really did but I couldn't bring myself to like it a little bit. Â I had the ribs, pulled pork, beef combo and not of it was really worth eating. Â I didn't even finish the plate. Â The sauce was terrible also, it is hard to describe it, Â kind of like a gross sweet candy with some hots sauce mixed in. Â On top of being bad the food came out cold, Â I would say the pork was bland but that would be an insult to bland, there was absolutely not trace of a pink smoke to the pork or the beef for that matter. Â The two ribs you get on your plate practically had no meat on them and so small you could use the bones to pick what little meat was stuck in your teeth. Â
I hate to steer people away from restaurants becuase everyone has their own taste but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Â Don't let the quaint cute BBQ look fool you the food is not good. Â Â
To add to David B's comment I suppose if you had a WHOLE lot of beer and were really really hungry and didn't have any other options then I guess I would eat it but thats about it. Â (Unless I could find a cardboard box I could put some BBQ sauce one, then would eat that instead.)
