My favorite bronx bar to go to! Simply the best wings and burgers all of uptown NYC. Everyone should try the eastchester burger, they're ginormous and full of flavor, not to mention the side of chilly.

Service here is great and the atmosphere is calm except when a football or baseball game is on then; the crowd is pretty much gut typical sports hyped crowd w the onslaught of brews.

Well PK, if you wanted me to stop coming here at all to eat, with my last visit you may have succeeded.
Came here for brunch at the recommendation of a friend when we had plans to go elsewhere. There was no paper brunch menu apparently-the waitress didn't know what was going on-I just said I would like scrambled eggs. She didn't tell me the brunch plate came filled with meats, nor did she seem to know anything about the brunch menu at all. As I usually get burgers here, I should have stuck with a burger. The eggs/sausage/ham/bacon beef platter was uber greasy and made me almost sick to my stomach. I ate just the eggs and picked some at the bacon. I ordered this with a bloody mary-which I never received and had to request from the bartender by walking up myself. Something was wrong with it-it had an irregular smoky taste to it which tasted different than the bloody mary my friend had ordered earlier. Bad mix? Unmixed mix? I didn't think it was a house mix but I sent it back and switched to beer. Ah. Cold bottled goodness.
The waitstaff disappeared throughout our stay-things like forks and drinks went missing. We would order drinks from one of the several wait staff that was floating randomly around and then they just didn't appear. We had to get them ourselves from the bartender. Then, now over a half hour since the initial drink order, the waiter told us our beers would be right there. Um-ok. The bartender had no issue in the 30 seconds it took him to open the friggen bottles.
Oh-taps were inoperational for the beginning of our stay. Nearing the end, I suppose they got them working again-gave us warm, flat beer in warm glasses that tasted like soap. Or something weird and not right. Apparently this place does not believe in "cold frosty mugs from the freezer" to serve beer in. You do burgers and beer and don't have cold glasses? Hmmmm.
Ah yes-and they revealed at the last second that the credit card machine was not working. More evidence that this place is an absolute mess. And the ATM in house was broken.
Sigh. I really, really wanted to like this place. It has actually gotten worse over time. The service and food here were awful. If I ever go back again, I would love to update this review to a more positive one. Previous visits were a dingy environment made up for by good burgers and beers and a wait staff that seemed to know what they were doing. This time, I left here very sad. The bartender seemed on point, the wait staff has zero clue of what is going on.

WAS my favorite regular restaurant with the best burgers and appetizers in town.

Food was great and the atmosphere was relaxed for dinner or a couple of drinks.

With that said, there are some serious heath issues that NEED to be addressed here.

Went here on the recommendation of Time Out New York, which placed it on a "Best Burgers in the Bronx" list. My husband was gleeful - the reviewt stated the burgers are best enjoyed plain (his preferred method). We spent a half hour looking for parking, then prepared for greatness.

The ambiance is typical of smaller bars - very dark, with clientele a bit on the raucous side. The waitstaff was uncertain about seating us, as a party was due at 8:00 PM (it was 6:45ish), but did so when we said we were only getting a quick burger

Now, maybe we were there on an off night. Perhaps we have an unusual view of "fantastic" burgers. That said, we were  unimpressed. While our burgers were cooked as ordered, they were merely "okay" in terms of flavor; there was no beefy "oomph.". Really, the discernible taste/feel was that of grease. The buns (supposedly big and fluffy) were supermarket-grade.

The fries, on the other hand, were awesome! Crispy yet creamy, good potato flavor - we scarfed down those suckers!

In short: The fries were wonderful, but the burgers weren't worth finishing. Next time we're in the area, we'll go elsewhere.

PK's is definitely a dive, but it is the best dive in town.  The burgers can't be beat - they are among the best I've ever had out.  The lunch crowd is a mix of regulars (think Norm of Cheers), locals, and people like me who come by for lunch once in a while.  The prices are the dirt cheap too.   If you're not looking for fine dining, but just want a cold beer with a great burger and pub grub, this is the place to be.

Super short review.  Went there on a Saturday night.  Good amount of people inside.  Very casual kind of place.  Ordered the salmon burger which was amazing!!!! Best I ever tasted.  Fast forward 3 hours later and I'm bent over my toilet feeling like I'm going to die.  I threw up at least 3 times and had horrible stomach cramps.  I didn't eat again until Sunday evening.  Turns out my cousin had previously ordered the Salmon burger but stopped eating it because hers tasted a little funny.

Def won't come back here again.  They get one star for the good music on the juke box.

Here's a shout-out to a neighborhood bar that I probably wouldn't have known about had I not live out here.

Located in Bronx neighborhood of Kingsbridge off the 231st Street stop on the 1-train.

"We have the best burgers in town!"
A claim advertised on the front of the bar and certainly does not disappoint. Walking past this place, I wouldn't have even throught to stop in here for a beer, let alone a burger. But I am glad they posted that sign and I am glad I decided to put their claim to the test.

These aren't pre-made frozen patties but handmade freshly ground beef. Piper's Kilt has about a dozen DELICIOUS 8 oz burgers with fries range which won't burn a hole in your wallet at $7.95 to $9.95, or you can supersize them Broadway style (10 oz) for only $2.00 more.

And for an even better deal, come here on Tuesday where burgers are half-price all day. You just need to try them all.

Steak Sandwich on Garlic Bread with grilled onions and fries - $10.95
There are not many places that I've been to that do a good job at steaks but I definitely recommend their Steak sandwich (featured above) for $10.95 which I ordered medium rare was delicious. Not many places understand the difference between well-done and medium rare but Piper's Kilt does.

If its drinks that you need, standard pints are about $6 or grab a pitcher of Coors Light for $11 or a Blue Moon or Sam Adams one for $17.

    They also have daily specials:
Mondays: .30 cent Buffalo Wings all day (11:30am-12:30am)
Tuesdays: Half-priced burgers all day (11:30am-12:30am)
Wednesday: Ladies Night: Half-priced drinks (7:30-11:30pm)
Thursday: Latin Day: New Latin items all day.
Fridays: Happy Hour Special - $20 Open Bar including Free Hot Buffet (4-6pm or 5-7pm)
Weekends: Double Brunch Special (12-3pm or 3-6pm)

Are you a Yankee or Rangers fan? Come down to the bar and watch the game on one of the many televisions throughout the bar.

All in all, I highly recommend checking out Piper's Kilt. Every time I've gone I've had really positive experiences. The bartender and wait staff are extremely welcoming, friendly, and genuine.

Simple looking place, with not such an amazing tap slection, but rockstar food!! Damn at burger!! The quality of the meat is so obvious, with a simple soft bun, and delicious cheddar cheese dripping onto the fries. My girlfriend had the steak sandwich which was delicious, with an amazing garlic hoggie and sweet onions. And not to forget the potato pancakes served with sour cream and applesauce... Very jewish and delicious. The beers and cheap and on tuesdays you can get all burgers half off. We will honestly give up Bronx Ale house and its great beers for amazing food haha.

I use to live right around the corner from this place and it was my go to place for burgers and beer.  That was eight years ago.

I happened to be in the neighborhood, heard it had new owners and decided to give it a try.  All I kept thinking was "I hope they haven't messed with the burger, please let the burger be the same"

Place looks the same with some Latin options to the menu, music much louder than I expected but gratefully the burger ( the Bronx Bomber of course) has not changed and the accompanying cole slaw was delicious.

I believe they had  a 20.00 happy hour all you can drink beer while the Yankees were playing.  However, I had two separate draft beers and the taste was off.  So i skipped the special .

I grew up in this neighborhood in the 80's and I'm so glad it's still here. Still has some of the juiciest burgers around. Hand made, not frozen and packaged.  Nachos were fantastic of course.   Great local joint to watch the game and catch up with old friends.  I haven't had the brunch here in a while but they still had some great specials.

    OH MY!

From the outside, it looks like a straight dump. The inside is another story. Defines what a DIVE BAR is. Sports memorabilia all over and has that old school vibe and feel.

The burger? WOW! I had the Bronx Bomber....Onions, Swiss and a fat, juicy burger that was devoured by me. It was a freakin' mess, but Gdamn, it was the BOMB!

    Can't wait to go back.

    Damn skippy!

This place has a solid good burger. I always have it plain the first time, sometimes without the bun, just to get a true taste. People always make the mistake of loading it up with the works. You know nuclear turkey could taste like heaven with the works! I foot at the end of a day with bacon and cheese between a brioche would make for some right good eatn' - so you get the point. Please people, respect the dead and don't put more dead on unless you must!

So anyway, this place has a really good burger. And that's that. I haven't tried anything else on the menu. I believe, if it's known for burgers just get the burger. God forbid more people start getting other things and they become less attentive on the thing they do best.

It's no secret that The Kilt, or PK's as everyone else calls it, serves the best burger in the Bronx...maybe in all of New York.  It's beefy, just-juicy-enough, and is half price on Tuesday.  My favorite is the Eastchester, enhanced by a side of Russian dressing.  If you wanna be a real fat-ass, order it Broadway big.
Aside from the burger and the well-worn wooden bar, there's something else that seems to make the Kilt - Teddy.
Teddy is somewhat of a bar legend in the Kingsbridge/Riverdale area.  He manned the bar at Jake's before it was Jake's (I wasn't alive then - the man himself gave me this tidbit of personal history).
Teddy is they type of bartender who anticipates your needs before you do - hence your beer glass is refilled just as you're getting to the real nitty gritty of your hot wings.  And boy...does this guy know his sports!  All of them!
My fiance and I like to stop in on a Tuesday or Thursday.  I walked in a couple of Thursdays ago, heard bachata blasting, and saw that Teddy was nowhere to be seen.  I walked out.  If my santa-claus look-alike favorite bartender isn't pouring to the sweet sounds of Elvis, Johnny Cash, and the like, then it's not the Kilt to me.

This place is known for their burgers, as they should be! Old school Irish bar that looks like it has not been renovated in years- truly an authentic neighborhood bar. Friendly staff, full bar, basic beer selection, and the burger/wings are the best!

Have not tried their other two locations, but if you are in the area looking for a good burger stop in.

I just found out about this place a few weeks ago here on Yelp, even though this bar is just 5 mins from where I live.

I do LOVE a good burger. So after reading reviews about this place I had to find out for myself just how good, or not, the burgers are.

As a bar, the place seems cool.
My girl and I went on a Sunday night, so it wasn't crowded at all.
The waitress was super friendly and quick to come to the table to take our order for beverages and food.

    The burger....
The menu has a few different burgers on it, everything from the simple, plain burger, cheeseburger, with grilled onions etc....but there are a few 'specialty' burgers with a few added toppings.
I had the Eastchester burger (cheese, onion rings, bacon, lettuce, tomato and a side of chilli)
I asked for my burger medium rare (the best way to get em!! ;) ) and that's how it came out.
The burger was tasty, not the BEST burger I've ever had, but it was good....good enough for me to want to go back and try the place again.
The chilli they served with the burger was very good as well. Next time I'll place some of it on the burger, I'm sure that'll add a nice flavor to the burger!

I was still hungry after the burger, and it wasn't small, so I ordered some chicken wings.
They only serve them with a mild sauce on them and it was tasty.

Overall, a very good meal. I was pleased. For now, I'm a fan of the place. We'll see how other visits go.
Consistency is important,  I'll see if they cook a med. rare burger the same way on my next visit. If so, it'll be nice to have this establishment on my list of local places for me to eat at!

I've been coming here since I was a little girl!

There is no place like P&K's as us locals like to say.

This is a neighborhood restaurant/bar for all ages.

The burgers are the best and so is the service.  Great place for gatherings, watching the Superbowl and or any sporting event.

Us locals, really appreciate P&K's and always will!!!!

just finished hastily leaving PKs as a result of the rude bartender. About 8 of us were there for lunch and really did enjoy our meals but when the baby in our party started squealing (he just turned 1). The senior bartender came over and commented about it. At first we thought he was joking and responded that the baby was squealing in delight but when he responded "somebody needs to shut that kid up" we knew it was not all fun and games. This is a restaurant/tavern not a 5 star establishment, which I have frequented for the last ummmmmmmmm let's say 18 years and never have I been met with such rudeness. Times aren't sure as they were in the past when the waiters were friendly and the bartender a delight. If they don't want babies in this establishment then I say take away the term restaurant. I've patronized this place long enough to know there's never peace and tranquility for if they want that then surely they'

Half-price burgers on Tuesdays. In other words, you pay $4, you get an insanely delicious meal. The fries are intense and tasty. Warm atmosphere with a bar staff who know all the customers, and the bartender (owner?) who has been there for ages. Feels like the Cheers of Kingsbridge.

The first time I went into Pipers Kilt was to meet a blind date that was set up by a friend. Now, I know you're asking yourself why someone who looks like me have to go on a blind date? Well, as my momma would say I don't gotta do anything but pay taxes and die, but I figured, what the hell, I'll give it a try. She knows my type, it'll be interesting and fun at the very least.

Yeah no. It was not fun. It wasn't even scary, it just was. The most memorable part of the date was the burger I had, along with my brew. Ok, fine it was about 4 brew's but, you get where I'm going. The burger was extra delicious, the fries had to be ordered separately, and they were ok, but that burger was really something boy! The Eastchester, it has bacon and it's awesome.

I don't even remember the guys name, or what he looks like, but what I do remember is how juicy the burger was. I remembered so well on a Saturday afternoon I suggested it to my brunch date. We went and I had my burger, with fries and unlimited beer (or mimosa's if you're classy) for $16.95 and he had buffalo wings. Extremely tasty wings, I might add.

I may not be able to pick the guy out of a line up, but those wings, that burger... I'll always remember them.

    Ahh Piper's!

My friends and I (and pretty much the entire surrounding college community) love this place! Best burgers in the area, and the wings are great too. They also have lots of traditional Irish favorites. It's small, and dark with a great old U-shaped bar in the heart of the restaurant, but I find it to be quite charming.

The best thing about Piper's is its Brunch special on Saturdays and Sundays. For I think $17 (or something around that price), you get your choice of a breakfast or lunch item (a nice comfort-food-ish selection--eggs Benedict, omelets, burgers, grilled cheese, etc.) and ALL YOU CAN DRINK pitchers of beer, mimosas, or bloody Mary's. Beware though, it can get verryyyy crowded.

Whether you're looking for a rowdy start to your Saturday or Sunday morning, or just a delicious burger, Piper's is a great place to try.

Recent visit with a friend (who revealed his true personality as a overly eager man itching for something something long overdue) for gift wrapping his three daughters' Christmas gifts as a thank you in lunching at Piper's Kilt.  On a lazy Sunday the day after the one (1) foot Northeast blizzard snow storm of December 12th, 2009, the burgers and onion rings warm the inside of me after struggling to walk in one foot of snow the night.

For my last visit I was eyeing on their burgers and onion rings, which this visit I ordered it for lunch along with a Cosmo.  I've tasted better good quality burgers elsewhere as they're U.S.D.A. Prime.  I prefer Burgers and Cupcakes and Big Nick's Burger and Pizza Joint for a gargantuan size, very juicy burger all without the aid of ketchup!

Calling this place racist is a stupid thing to do. The burgers are some of the best, the buffalo fingers are very good and the casear salad is sneaky good. Teddy is a great bartender. I'm glad they got rid of Mike who used to bartend on Sunday nights...

Wish it were possible to give Piper's Kilt a ZERO-star rating.

Went there yesterday and had one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a restaurant. I am almost positively convinced the waiter that "served" us was a racist bigot. We were a large group of 8 and were there because the Monday night wing special is supposed to be amazing - never got to try these so-called famous wings. Ordered them at 830 and at 10pm, there was still no sign of the wings, meanwhile the rest of the locale, full of people who had gotten there after we had, had long been served.

The waiter would pass by our table all the time without so much as caring to ask how we were doing or letting us know when our food would be ready, I guess folks with melanin don't deserve equal treatment at a restaurant. It's 2009 - the service was simply ridiculous!! When we finally got fed up and confronted the waiter, another nearby waitress who seemed to deliver wings to everyone, and the manager, no one knew what the deal was. And the manager, instead of being apologetic and offering us a free dinner on the house (after being there 1.5 hours without our food) insisted we pay for some appetizers we ordered and told us to not tip if we didn't like the service. We promptly paid and walked out, never to return again.

Bottom line: this is a RACIST establishment and we shouldn't condone this type of behavior in America, not in this day and age.

Excellent Irish pub. Very serious about their sports and firefighters.
Still, as a liberal queer without much interest in 'NY's Bravest", I still feel comfortable and welcome.  The bartenders are great and very competent. The wait service is a bit sketchy but it's staffed by teens who are not brilliant but sincere. So, you have to ask the bartender to get 'the girl' or "where's that kid with my mayo?" but wasn't that what was cool about NYC once? Being able to speak up and get what you want?
When I go to a 3 star restaurant, i want impeccable service, but when I'm having a very good burger with an excellent draft and celebrating Touchdowns with reasonably priced shots of 12 yr old scotch, I'll over look a few things.
Sunday afternoon is a good time to grab a beer, a burger and watch the game. But beware the charming drunks who run long at the mouth but usually catch themselves and buy you a shot for 'listening to an old maaan garble...'. If you like the IDEA of McSorley's shithole Ale house but hate the tourists and frat boys, you will LOVE Piper's Kilt.

Pretty dark, dingy Irish pub in the Bronx.
GREAT burgers. I've had better, but this one was delicious. I got cheddar cheese and mushrooms. The cheese wasn't as melted as much as I would like, but the burger was cooked perfectly and falling out of the bun. I had to eat it with a fork and a knife, but considered it a good thing :)

Very run of the mill dive. Food is rather plain and nothing remarkable about it. What someone said about the wait staff is true. They take your order and then you have to hunt them down.

It seems to be a lot more fun at the bar with locals and presumably the owner or manager working the bar. They're big Yankee fans in this place, so watch yourself.

I like the Piper's Kilt on Bway and 207th in Inwood better. More charisma.

Best burger in the Bronx ***

The hubby and I came in on a recent Saturday night and stuffed ourselves with buffalo wings and burgers.  Both really knocked our socks off!

The place itself is pretty divey, but as others have said, it's not aspiring to be anything else.  After looking at a wall photo that had to be 10 years old, we noticed that at least three out of seven of the guys in the picture were seated at the bar that evening -- talk about regulars!

***HOWEVER, Pipers wasn't perfect by any means.  Aside from the seedy decor, our fellow patrons' loud, lowbrow conversations were off-color at best and downright offensive at times (homophobic insults / "jokes" directed at each other).  Could have definitely done without that.

Another annoying part of the experience: after enjoying our burgers, we looked at the bill and realized that I was charged an additional $1.25 for lettuce and tomato -- seriously?!  For an otherwise reasonably-priced place, this seemed like inexplicable nickel-and-diming (or should I say, dollar-and-quartering).  The fries were also nothing special, but we were almost too stuffed to notice.

For the overall quality of the bar food, I'd be inclined to give PK five stars.  But the unappealing conversations overheard that evening, paired with so-so service (and jacked-up condiment pricing) left us less than thrilled.

UPDATE:  We did come back for Sunday brunch (12-3) a few weeks ago, and enjoyed every sip and bite.  For $16, you get a huge portion of the breakfast / lunch of your choice, and UNLIMITED mimosas, champagne, bloody marys or beer.  The crowd was much more family-friendly as well.

Yes, this neighborhood bar is average and unpretentious but they do have one of the juiciest 1/2 lb burger I ever had with fries for just 6.95.  I also ordered the nachos which were overloaded and potato pancakes which are also good.  The bar can be loud with people cheering when games are on their big plasmas all over, great to watch games w/ ur buds, but on a saturday night, I was still able to have a good time chatting.  I didn't have a problem with the waitstaff, they were pretty fast and attentive if u look at them.

Order: Bronx Bomber Burger w/ fries, Eastchester Burger, nachos, potato pancakes, 1 corona, 2 cokes for 42 bucks. Not bad b/c I was stuffed.

Serious bartenders know how to serve a crowd and the burgers are spectacular. Fantastic brunch spot, great place to watch the Sunday football games and drink yourself under the table. I could sit in the bar area here all day.
If your scope is out for NYC's Finest or NYC's Bravest man candy, this spot is a veritable gold mine.

Update: Pipers Kilt Bronx would be still be 5 stars except for the lackadaisical waitstaff.

If you get a booth, avoid the tall dark and handsome waiters with big silver earrings. They take your order, bring your food and you will never, never see them again.  That is, until you find a bus boy to find them.

They don't do the two minute check back to see if there is anything else you'd like, is your food okay, can I get you another drink.  All the other booths in our section were looking for their servers also.  Mind you, there was a Yankee game on so we where there a good long time, and were pretty patient.

By the time our server gets back to the table, we were pretty much done.  That's when he thinks to  sk if we want anything else. Uh, yes, we did actually each want another beer or two, twenty minutes ago, a half hour ago and forty minutes ago. And thanks for not bothering to ask, but the food wasn't cooked the way requested.

We asked for the check, he dropped it off and walked away.  We put an Amex in the billfold and waited for his return. And waited. Mind you, this is not a big venue and there were empty tables early on a Friday night.
We only had enough cash between us to tip 12% so we waited some more. We never saw the server again.  We left what cash we had.  It covered the bill but I think we over tipped.

Note to self: Either sit at the bar or in Pipers Kilt Inwood
