PJs is a really cool looking busy restaurant. Even though I went for take out the service and food was great. We got a less expensive lunch combos: jack daniels salmon with fries. You'd expect the portions to be small since it's cheaper but they were just enough. Tuesday, middle of the day on and they were busy-a good sign of fresh seafood. Next time I'll definitely visit for dinner.

OUTSTANDING! My fiance and I ate here Saturday night and we had a great experience. Our waiter, Phil, was spot on throughout our entire visit. We sat outside and really enjoyed it. Though the place was quite busy, we were seated immediately and then quickly greeted by Phil who handled our drink order within seconds. He was tremendous.

The food was delicious. We had the gator bites and oysters chicago as our appetizers and both were amazing. I would recommend both of them and will definitely get them again. We shared a pick three combo as our entree and chose shrimp and oysters (grilled) and blackened grouper. Soooo yummy! I will likely try everything blackened on my next visit because of how awesome the grouper was. Loved it!

Indeed we will definitely return in the future. I recommend the place to anyone looking for casual, as well as families. We noticed several families with children that were enjoying themselves as well. Thanks PJ's!!! See you again soon!!!

Decent food. Weird service that wasn't really slow but sorta missing.  Oysters were not the best (wouldn't go there for just that).  Prices are decent and not overpriced.  Food is typical but nothing special.  Place is hugh so getting a seat is very quick.  I would come back again.

Came here to get some crabs with my aunt and uncle, and they were pretty delicious, but pretty dang pricey.  The portions were pretty small, for example to soup and salad were pretty small, but they looked pretty good.

The crabs were realllllyyyy good, and the dijon sauce was yummy!  Plus, the side of broccoli was also delicious!  Like I said though, the portions are pretty small for what you are paying

Eh... It was ok. Not very memorable. Fried gator, coconut shrimps, oysters on the half shell, clam chowder.

I felt horrible after eating all the fried food. But the clam chowder were yummy. Only thing the kids would eat.

Four Stars for the bar staff and the service and friendliness....we are locals, but everyone is treated with the same smile, great service, and menu suggestions. There is a reason they have been in business for so many years.....

    You would not be disappointed.

PJ's is a solid seafood option on the beach. The large seating area means wait times usually are not too bad. I had a fried group sandwich and it was decent. Not as good as my favorite place on the beach, but OK. The prices are reasonable and service is typically quite good. Very kid friendly place as it's usually quite noisy in here.

I really should not be allowed to review seafood places because I don't eat seafood. It's like a vegetarian rating a steak joint. You may take my review with a grain of salt. (haha so apt because its seafood! I'm hilarious!).

This place was crazy packed on a Tuesday and it was close to the holidays so that may be good evidence that people enjoy it here. The happy hour deals are pretty good. My family liked the oysters VERY much and they were at the right price. I like the live parrot near the door; I like the silly novelty signs and paper towels hanging from plastic chains on coat hangers.

I think our server was pretty busy and would flutter in and out like a humming bird, only touching down long enough to hear one request and then he was off again. I had to yell after him a couple times, only once successfully, to come back cause I needed a drink. That being said, he did comply with all requests when he stayed long enough to hear them and he was really nice.

I did enjoy the fried green beans a lot. I liked that I could get a good serving of vegetables but I did have to pay to substitute them with my burger instead of french fries. My burger was a regular diner burger. Portions were large; everybody was content at the end. Try it out if you're looking for an oyster deal while visiting St. Pete beach.

Great stone crab (the jumbo is just right for one determined crab eater) and Chicago oysters. Skip the steamed mussels though.

First of all, when we got inside, despite the fact that there were nice sittings by the windows we've got seats by kitchen, and I hate it!
After we've being sitting there for about 5 minutes and nobody even stopped by our table, I asked staying nearby waiter if somebody going to take care of us, and he pointed at guy, who was happily chatting at next table with somebody else! I guess it was friends or relatives, cause our waiter has spent most of his time by that table cheering people up.

Now, about the food. Appetizers were good - coconut shrimps and fried calamari. For main course I've ordered burger, my wife - key west grupper. The burger was absolutely mediocre, I guess you can't really expect excellent burger plate in oyster bar, so we've held our expectations high for a fish.  And, as we found later, with no avail. The grupper filet was hardly discoverable under pile of mayonnaise, that was suppose to be a garlic sauce.

So, please forgive us for thinking for a minute that we should leave no tips to our dismissive waiter (at some point I saw him rolling eyes on us, while we where deciding about our order!). We did leave tips, but we never coming back, sorry!

PJ's oyster bar is a waste of good seafood... or rather bad seafood.  In a place with so many seafood restaurants, I have not figured out how this place stays busy.  Now let me qualify that with, I do not like oysters so maybe they have amazing oysters but I love fish.  I grew up with off the docks fresh fish.  This was not fresh fish.

OK this place is an oyster bar with a bar feel and bar food plus fish at not so bar like prices.  In fact it is at almost bonefish grill sort of prices.  Guess where I would rather go?  Well not bonefish since I prefer local flavor but you get my point.  I ordered Mahi and it was either frozen or old.  Our fried mozzarella spit the cheese out of the wrapper which means that the fryer is at the wrong temperature.  Our drinks were weak and expensive.  All in all, I could think of a million and one ways to waste $40 a person.  PJ's is not anywhere near the top of the list.

Go to Dockside Daves for much better fish.

The grouper sandwich was fresh and tasty served on a cornmeal dusted bun.  The baked oysters were good but nothing like the grilled oysters at Drago's in Kenner.  I'd eat here again.

Do not let the strip center throw you off! This is where the locals eat. Only the best oysters, Ahi, and drinks are very reasonable. If you are looking for a quit, quaint place.. this is not it. Familes and regulares everywhere! Full selection of all types of crab, lobster and shellfish!

Seafood, glorious seafood! The lobster tail, Alaskan King crab legs, peel-n-eat shrimp and stone crab were delicious. The outdoor patio is quaint, shaded and more my speed than the crowed, maybe a little too family-oriented indoors. The oysters, ironically, were the least tasty item we ordered. There was nothing *wrong* with them, and to be totally fair it is off-season, just saying, if we're putting things in order, they were at the bottom of the list. Overall, a really great experience with a wonderfully friendly staff.

It's been ages since we visited PJs, but I still remember it quite well.  We ordered whitefish sandwiches, a dozen oysters, and a couple beers and it was a great meal.  We're dying to get back here as soon as possible.

we love this place and go at least once a month. Chicago Oysters are great and they have grilled scallops down to a science. Don't miss this place!

We went here on the recommendation of the bell man at our hotel.  It was our first meal in town after getting off the plane and checking in, and probably the worst meal of the trip.  It defintely wasn't BAD, but it didn't knock our socks off like some of the other places.  The service was average, seemed like we were more of a pain even though there were maybe only 5-6 tables total there (mid afternoon). The food was OK.  It's not that I wouldn't each there again, but there are many other places in St. Pete Beach where we received better service and better food.

First a vent: Crabs creep me the hell out. I still feel 1/2 serving of snow crab bears an uncanny likeness to Freddy Kruger's hand.

Nevertheless, opting for the rare Tuna steak over my girlfriend's order of horror film on a plate (see profile pic, no bueno), i found it to be very rich in flavor. The selection was vast and abundant. Prices were not outlandish and on par with the quality of fare served.
Perhaps more notable was the wonderful selection of adult beverages which complemented the menu.

Outdoor seating was preferred over the ire and chaos of the inside dinning availability.

    Not terrible at all.

We are so glad we chose PJ's and couldn't have asked for better seafood.  We ordered raw oysters, steamed shrimp, gumbo and hush puppies.  All were fantastic.  Oysters were large and fresh, shrimp was very tasty and the rest was worth ordering again too.  We are staying the night in St. Pete from out of town and didn't have any idea where to go.  We searched yelp for seafood in St. Pete Beach and found a few restaurants.  We debated since the prices were less expensive at PJ's vs. other restaurants.  Oysters are half the price compared to other places!  Say Whaaat!?!  We thought that might be a bad sign.  Not true - they're great and large!

We're back at the hotel and we both feel like we found a great seafood place and are looking forward to visiting again.

I have been going to the other PJ's (in Indian Rocks) since it opened in the 80's. This one I haven't visited as much, but it is still just as good. If you try anything here (besides a dozen raw) try the fried grouper. Always an excellent choice. The seafood has always been fresh and tasty and well portioned. I have a bit of concern that recently the two PJ's came under separate management. Hopefully both will continue to excel as THE local fish joints to visit. Oh and leave a dollar on the wall for charity.

The service was good. The food was not... Ordered the coconut Shrimp,Way over cooked and chewy. My husbands shrimp alfredo had hardly any shrimp. Too much sauce. The mixed drinks were much to small for the price. I would not recoomend this place.

This is the place for oysters out on the St. Pete Beach side.

$6.99 for a dozen raw on the half shell.  Great quality...decent sized oysters (see pic)...nicely blended cocktail sauce...with plenty of extra horseradish on the side...all served up well.  Crabby Bill's used to be my fave for oysters on SPB, but PJs does a better job time after time.

Big selection of beers on display at the bar with a half dozen or so drafts too.

As far as atmosphere:  More of a restaurant with a big dining area.  You will likely see your grandmother & her friends having lunch there.  They have a couple small TVs, so it's not a sports bar.  And not beach shack as they are not on the water.

But...PJs is great for oysters and an excellent starting point for a Pub Crawl around Sunset Way over to Woody's.

    Great service too.

On vacation and was looking for a good local place to get some fresh seafood - we found it!   PJ's is nothing special to look at (Paper towels hang from the ceiling, dollar bills stapled to the walls and water is served in plastic cups) but the food was fresh and good, staff was attentive, service quick, prices reasonable...would recommend!

PJ is one of those place you are sure going to encounter from people talking,  Guide book ad, colleaque recommendation, etc etc.  About 10 miles from the office I was visiting, I decided to check it out.  It was sort of a bar/dinner type of setting with lots of neon outside.   Main deco inside were $1 note staple to the wall, with neon, stuff birds and funny signs all over.  Almost bring back my college days memories.   Menu has lots of stuffs from fish to oyster to croc bites.   I ordered a doezn gulf oyster 1/2 shell, oyster rockerfella and grouper.   The raw oyster was a total disappointement, it's not much of their fault, the oyster are just poor.  It has no taste, no flavor, no ocean smell (nor oil spill), it's even a little rubbery, it almost down right gross.  Other then dead stinky oyster, this is probably 2nd worst I ever had.  I know they are fresh so I wasn't worry about getting sick, it's just poor tasting oyster.  Too bad !   The rockerfella is better because I am eating cheese and spinach and bacon bite.  I tell you there is no better oyster rockerfella then New Orleans' Anothny, have not find one better elsewhere yet !   The grouper however is fantastic, cook just right, fall apart and juicy (not over done to a dry white color in the middle that I hate).  In addition, beer (YingLing or something like that) was $2.5 each.  3 beers cost less than some other places charge for 1 beer.  Definitely a spring break or happy hours joint.

Long John Silvers has better seafood than this place. A salad consists of large wet pieces of iceberg with a few rotten bits. The grilled shrimp were not properly deveined and had no sign of being grilled. The grouper was a piece of flavorless white fried fish. So disappointing.

Fun atmosphere and your basic seafood menu.  The crab cakes and Jakc Daniels salmon are tasty.  There are several options for sides with your meal.

Service was good & the waitstaff was very knowledgeable about the menu items.  They also offer both indoor and outdoor seating, but the outdoor seating does not offer a great view - just of a busy intersection on the main thoroughfare through St. Pete.

My family always makes it a point to eat at PJ's at least once during our annual vacation to St. Pete Beach.

Tonight was my sixth time at PJs, and went back specifically for some raw oysters.  They were amazing.  Kids and my wife had grouper, burgers, scallops and a cheesesteak.  All were very good, with the cheesesteak perhaps the best, believe it or not.  We had calamari as an appetizer, which was not my favorite (of other area restaurants), but the others liked it because it was so tender.  I also had some gumbo, which I would skip next time.  It was very loud and crowded, so if that bothers you, you might want to skip PJs.  However, it was just what we were looking for.

Our three kids, Teresa and I went here on a Saturday evening.  It was about 15 minutes to get in, it was so packed.  For good reason: the oysters were delicious and fairly priced.  I had seared tuna and Teresa had grilled amberjack.  Both were great.

The kids menu has lots of options that our kids liked.  $60 all in.  A great deal.  Service was a little better than I expected for the price and for how busy they were.  Great deal.

Best and cheapest seafood on the beach. Service is usually great, but bear in mind that even in the off season they can have a wait for dinner. I've been going there for years- love the crab (all of it), mussels, shrimp, and clams.

They also have a mighty selection of bottled beers, more than most beach seafood places. If you don't like shellfish, try their salmon. Veggies are also almost always just right- they don't taste like they've sat in a steamer tray for hours.

Gumbo is made on site and it- what's the word? Oh, yeah. Rocks. It rocks. Scallops, shrimp and other seafood bits, and they don't scrimp on it. It's also not at all salty, which can be a problem with soups.

Anyone who says this food is just average is probably getting their seafood fried, or not getting the seafood at all. That's fine, but don't expect great things when you take a fine piece of fish, roll it in batter and fry the hell out of it.

PJ's is an average seafood restaurant similar to Crabby Bill's like another reviewer mentioned.  They have all the regular fried foods...shrimp very lightly breaded which were good, clams, flounder (that was very nice) grouper etc.  They oysters they were serving were surprisingly from Galviston and not Appalacicola but I really liked them.  They were good.

We sat at the bar and service was average.  They weren't busy and the bartender said the kitchen was backed up so not sure was happening there.

Would I go back?  Probably not.  I'm from Orlando so next time I go to St. Pete I would rather try out a different place.

It's a local chain with unmemorable food, similar but better than Crabby Bill's.  It's probably bad thing if i couldn't remember at first what I had ordered there 2 days ago.  The clam chowder was pretty good w/ chunks of clam.  The blackened salmon was tasty and tender; not overcooked which is key.

    Food: 3 stars
    Service: 3 stars
    Ambiance: 3.5 stars, festive beachy
    Overall: 3 stars
