Strolled down to Gulfport the other night and couldn't decided what we wanted to eat. Â I've walked by this restaurant numerous times and have never stopped in, so figured we should try it out. Â
They place always looks dead, I'm not sure why no one really hangs out here. Â Inside has limited seating, but they have a pretty good size deck outside that overlooks the water (well the sidewalk, road, parking, volleyball courts.. and then the water)
Being the only people there at 8pm on Sunday was a pleasant surprise. Â Our server was very nice but seemed to disappear for long periods of time. Â I could assume doing the closing up duties and what not, but I do appreciate when my water gets refilled without having to ask (which did not happen here).
Food: as everyone else states, the menu is a range. Â They have the traditional British food, but they also have some Mexican, Italian, Asian and American. Â The menu lists all the beers and the prices- this was a nice surprise.
I got the taco salad, my friend got there special of $.50 wings on game days. Â
She said the wings were really good and tasted fresh. Â
The taco salad I got with chicken was actually really good. Â My only complaint is I made the assumption the salad would come with shredded lettuce, and after thinking about it I went back to the bar to ask if it was going to be shredded lettuce and she told me I had a choice of shredded or spinach.... I guess I would imagine that's something she should have asked me when I made the order. Â Aside from that the salad is very good, the chicken is amazing and it's a good size portion.
The place always looks dead, but if you want a tasty meal and not a lot of people sitting around you.... this is a good place to try out!
Stopped in for dinner at this "British" style pub on a quiet Sunday night- I think we were the only customers in the place! Our server was very pleasant, British accent and all, friendly, and the service was good, though she was folding up umbrellas and chairs at the sidewalk tables while we ate.
Sat on their pleasant patio on a warmish night, with a decent breeze off Boca Ciega Bay and some slightly odd dog-walkers strolling by. Â We had a spinach & artichoke dip, served with warm (but slightly stale) Naan and diced tomatoes on top, and it was alright, but there was no evidence of artichoke. Â Lots of spinach and cheese though. Also had their misnamed Shepherd's Pie (theirs is made with beef, not lamb, which makes it Cottage Pie), which was hearty and filling.
They have lots of other eclectic choices on the menu, from fish & chips, bangers and mash, to penne alfredo, grilled salmon, burgers, and maybe some curry. Â The food was decent, filling and tasty. but nothing to write home about. Visualizing this place full of chatty customers quaffing UK beers and pub grub, it could be a good time. Our server was certainly accomodating and didn't rush us. I will probably go back and try the fish & chips or maybe the liver & onions, and a pint or two.
I went to eat here on Sunday night with some friends that eat here a couple of times a month. From the outside it looks like a little beach restaurant and not what I expected from the name. Inside we were greeted by the owners Maggie and Dave. They are a super friendly couple that made me feel welcomed and at home right away. There are only a few tables inside, a few outside and a small bar but the place has that English feel that I miss slightly from back home in London. The menu is a little eclectic, ranging from traditional British fare like a roast dinner and fish n chips to several curries and some Asian dishes. I wanted the feel of home so I had the steak and ale pie with mash potatoes and veggies and it was delicious!! One of my friends had the roast pork dinner and the other the fish n chips and both were equally excellent. They do not rush you, the staff is very attentive and Maggie the owner stopped by our table for a chat and to check on us several times. All in all it was a wonderful night, with wonderful people and even more wonderful food!!
You must check this little place out while in Gulfport!!
