We stop by after trip to Pt Townsend for weekend trip from Seattle.
The Cafe was pretty empty yet we got a bad service and over priced for drink and dessert.
Server was never attention to customers talking with co-workers  just because we didn't have reservation and just for drink and dessert. I will never try again.

Cute little place to eat with delicious food options! There is art on the wall and its located in the back of the general store. Sit by the windows so you can look out while you eat!

I ate there breakfast and lunch and everything I ordered was delicious! Highly recommend the fry bread and their french fries were awesome!

The store itself also has candy and some souvenirs and knick knacks all around the place. If you have time, just walk around and see all the stuff they have. There's also a shell museum upstairs which is definitely worth checking out!

Well this is a local gem for the area.  We had their hash browns, home and totally fantastic.  They also had something called fry bread which was fantastic like a healthy doughnut.  Beautiful area and all the local favors of the area well mixed into this place.  No real dislikes for this place...  Give it a shot.

Great place to kill time. I honestly had no intentions of buying souvenirs or novelty candy, so this review won't be much help on the shopping end.
I'm all about the experience, Though. Fun "old fashion" candy, toys and knickknacks abound!

I've never seen so many taxidermy sea creatures in my life. Huge shell collection lines the whole wall upstairs. Giant crab corpses proudly displayed. Very interesting!

From exterior throughout the interior, this quaint "shoppe" had the true nautical feel of an "Olde time" seaside market. All of Port Gamble is adorable. I appreciate history and love victorian architecture, thus I found this place delightful.

I ordered an Americcano latte from the little cafe. Not so great. It was a bit pricey, too, for the small amount and it only had one shot. Skip the cafe :)

So, I've come here a few more times since my first review and realized my initial impression no longer stood. I think I must have come in on off day...the food has since been consistently good, includes vegetarian and gluten-free carbs (think a pancake special & English muffins), has happily fed out of town guests & when timed right, involves no wait.
Will be trying it for dinner soon-

Hands down the best meal me and my wife have had in the area since moving out here. We have been here twice for breakfast/brunch. Today we had the Ranchero Omelet and the Black Bean burger with sweet potato fries. The thing we enjoy the most here is the attention to detail. The food always comes out looking and tasting like someone put care into it. The flavor combinations, high quality local ingredients, and small town setting make the Port Gamble General Store a real gem. We waited approximately 30 minutes for a table for two on an early Saturday afternoon, but once we were seated--the service was excellent. We waited a while for the food--maybe 20-25 minutes, but this is one place where I don't mind waiting because the food actually merits waiting. We have been to a couple other "5 star"  rated places on Yelp, and found that they were a bit over hyped. This was not the case here at all. We will definitely be back.

Excellent Mac 'n Cheese.  Simply excellent.  Wife had the half chicken salad and soup which, while not bad, was underwhelming.  Prices are very high and service is non-existent.

The General Store first opened in 1916 and carries quite a large variety of items, including local beer and wine, souvenirs and candy. There are so many items on display that it takes you a few minutes just to absorb it all.

They reopened in 2010 under new ownership and added a café that opens daily for breakfast and lunch and serves dinner Thursday through Sunday. They also host wine tastings and private events.

The Sea and Shore Museum is located upstairs and features one of the largest private shell collections in the country, owned by a great-grandson of one of the town's earliest families.

The Port Gamble Historical Museum is located downstairs and has many old photographs, artifacts and other antique items from the town's history.

I completely forgot to update my review for their breakfast/brunch offerings! I have been back several times for breakfast here because it is amazing! FRY BREAD AND GRAVY...that's all you need to know! So dang good, I try to make it here for breakfast whenever I can. The portion size is huge, and could easily be shared between two people.

Fry bread is covered in homemade sausage gravy that is bursting with flavor, topped with over easy eggs, and served with a side of breakfast potatoes (which are completely amazing in their own right!). Always great service. Please do yourself a favor, and try this place!

Breakfast is absolutely wonderful - the lemon ricotta pancakes and the almond french toast are to die for!

I whole heartedly agree with the assessment of the onion rings - the worst we ever had - one thin onion layer surrounded by 1/4 inch hard and sharp crust - so sharp in fact, it injured the roofs of our mouths!  We mentioned it to the waitress, but all she said was that she'd pass it on. And the thin but tasty meatloaf sandwich finished us off - the bread was very sharply toasted - adding to the mouth misery. But the prices were the worst - $6 for a tiny cup of soup - in a Café of a tiny town with one short main street!  And if you want to "substitute" the soup for what normally comes with the sandwiches - it's $3.00. And $14+ for a (tasty) chicken salad sandwich. We paid about the same in Carmel California!

We also substituted what comes with the sandwich for those onion rings...for $2 each extra!  We expected to have them take it off the bill since we just took a bite and didn't finish them, but no dice. We paid over $70 (incl. tip but NO beverages at all - just water) for a 4 person lunch!  We're better off going to Poulsbo restaurants.

Dinner is hit or miss - and definitely not cheap either - almost $30 for a NY steak.  But the breakfast is excellent - especially the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes (more like crepes) and the home made corned beef hash. Probably the only meal we might go back for - just not that often any more.

The store itself is well appointed with many unique and whimsical items, but after paying way over retail (I checked the items online later), I'm not inclined to shop there any more - there are other places on the Peninsula with the same items for less.  That's a shame - we always like to support local businesses and are even willing to pay a little more, but not if we feel gouged. Bottom line - it is very overpriced for its location and amenities, no matter how quaint and scenic the area might be - it does not justify such high prices.

Found the food at lunch to be very greasy.  The onion rings are NOT worth it.  They are hard and thick with cornmeal batter. There is so much, in fact, you never taste onion.  My grilled cheese was also sort of greasy and the cheese, not being the usual cheddar or American, had an unusual mealy texture.  My husband's mac 'n cheese had the same strangely textured cheese, so he did not enjoy that very much either. The waitress was very hurried and we finally had to flag down our hostess to refill our water glasses. The only thing I can really recommend in the food category is the salted caramel vanilla ice cream.

As for this store pretending to  be a general store...Not even close.  It is simply a small portion of the restaurant attempting to sell tourists souvenirs.

We arrived on a Saturday night, with no reservations, still, they made a place for us.  During our half hour wait for a table (which is not long!) we meandered around the general store, which was amusing and distracting.

The food - very good.  We started with the housemade waffle fries which were perfectly crisp and salty, then dipped them into the caramelized onion dip. (We took the rest of that home for bagels).  We split the NW Fry, which was fantastic. Everything was perfectly fried but NOT greasy.  The shrimp had the perfect "pop" of being cooked exactly long enough.  We also shared the meatball and fusilli.  The meatball was tender and flavorful.  Sorry no picture.  We gobbled that up.

Service staff was friendly, and busy. We'll definitely be back.

The meatloaf sandwich is amazing! I drive 30 minutes to eat this. Still good heated up 3 hours later.

Eggcelent breakfast that was well worth the modest wait and reasonable price for what you are getting.  Superior food quality (real jam and maple syrup for instance), hungry man portions, and a very unique and beautiful location. I had the corned beef hash and it was heavenly.  Real cubes of tender meat (meat ratio was more than adequate) and plenty of fixings.  Everyone else in my party really enjoyed their food as well.  Fry bread and gravy is in my queue for next time.  (Or a dinner visit).

If you like Bloody Marys get the Garden Mary - a spicy bloody that has all sorts of goodies speared to it - drinks like a meal.

Attentive service and accommodating to our party with three kids.  (9,9, 6 y/o - no kids menu though as far as I know).  It's in a charming old fashioned general store that sells individual candies and all sorts of knick knacks and artifacts to look at.  Also worth going to check out the idyllic lil seaside village of Port Gamble if you have never been.  (Modeled after a Maine logging town).

Wonderful little cafe and store in an old company store from the logging days. The front of the building contains a store with food, housewares, trinkets souvenirs, and maybe most important - an extensive selection of Washington wines! It was great to peruse the store while we waited for our food to come to our table.

I had the mac and cheese which was the perfect blend of cheese and noodle. My friend had the juicy and tender Classic Burger with cheese. We really enjoyed the meal and the ambiance, and I ended up purchasing one of the beautiful pieces of local wall art. I really can't say enough about this place, it was fantastic!

Excellent food and ambiance was wonderful....busy but when were seated we were treated as though we were the first people there....the lady from Silverdale is NOT a Port Gamble local and she will belong to the AARP generation sooner than she thinks...

Had lunch here about 8-months ago and had a really good meal. It was kinda busy so we understood why it took 45 minutes after ordering to get our lunch.  Went today for Valentine's day breakfast. When we arrived there were only three tables seated and we thought GREAT, this should be quick. We both ordered the Indian fry bread & sausage gravy w/two eggs and potatoes. After 25 minutes our server brought us STEAK KNIVES(???) and said our lunch would be here soon. About 5-minutes later she brought our food. It looked great but we soon found out the gravy and the potatoes were really spicy! So spicy, my wife couldn't eat her potatoes! The sausage itself had NO taste so they tried to jazz it up with the spicy gravy. You must use fresh pork sausage to get the taste!  And then there was the "Indian fry bread" that was actually some kind of BAKED biscuit with a REALLY hard crust (hence the steak knives).
It's a 45-minute drive from home to this cafe and I won't make this trip again!  There are too many places that put out excellent breakfasts and lunches to make this journey, just to be disappointed with the wait and the food!
If you want to try this cafe, just be sure you have lots of time on your hands.

Food--FANTASTIC.  i do think, though that charging $2.50 extra for a gluten free slice of bread was over the top (especially when the meal comes with toast)  The service is horrifically slow....but the wait staff is so nice I tended to be forgiving.  I hope the owner reads this and does something because I drove 40 minutes to get there and would do it again if  i had two hours to spend having breakfast.

We read about this place for breakfast, decided to give it a try.  Table for 4.  My dish, the corned beef hash was quite good. The portions were nice.  We tasted other dishes, all were good.  Our server was very attentive and thorough.  Any misunderstandings were quickly made right.  She smiled and was patient.  Really tried to cater to us.  We were served REAL maple syrup. Nice.  My eggs were poached and done right the first time. We were treated well.

The only thing we noticed that was a little disappointing, but certainly not worth black-listing them for, was that my dad is a big fan of corned beef hash and when I told him about my breakfast, he went the next day with some friends he brought with him and found that it was mostly potatoes and hardly any corned beef.  He complained to me about that.  So, there may be some lack of consistency.  His experienced differed greatly from mine.  Overall, the experience we had was good, although a tad pricey.

If you are a fan of breakfast, you'll find that this is a nice step above a greasy spoon diner. (Nothing wrong with a greasy spoon diner by the way)

I would become a regular if the prices were a bit lower though. Although it's a little out of my way, I'd come back again when in the area.

Had a delicious lunch there day before Mother's Day. Service was amazingly attentive even with a busy crowd of diners. Lovely views from the dining area. Awesome historic building with a lobby full of delightful gifts, wine, etc. My "Farmers" salad was big, fresh and delicious. WILL GO BACK! Also spotted a great selection of Quilcene's Wildwood Farms jams and jellies.

The food was delicious and the setting was pristine, but the service was AWFUL!  We had to ask for water & coffee refills, and that's only when we could get the attention of the waitstaff.  We were a party of three and my husband paid in cash.  He and I went to use the restroom and the waitress told the third member of our party that "the bill was $38 and he only left $33."  Our friend was ready to hand over another $10 when we came back and demanded the waitress count our original money in front of us.  Low and behold, there was $45 in there!  I don't know if she was just dumb or trying to swindle us on purpose, but if we go back, we will definitely be paying by credit card so that there can be zero argument!

I love unique American cafes and restaurants that aren't part of national chains.  THIS is one of those places with extraordinary food and friendly local service.  Great breakfast here - to wit:  lemon ricotta pancakes with fresh blackberry compote.  Oh my!  :-9  This place is worth the drive and worth the wait for a table.

What's better than eating a roasted tomato & chevre omelet for brunch? Looking out at the glistening Puget Sound, soaking up the Nortwestern summer sun and listening to 80s hits while eating that roasted tomato & chevre omelet, with a side of crispy herb taters, and playing footsie with someone really sweet and handsome. That's better.

Perfect morning menu: classic combos, fancy omelets, multigrain waffles, lemon ricotta pancakes, Indian "fry" bread & gravy, fresh juices, espresso drinks, and a Bloody Mary that looks like a salad in the glass (in a good way). They do a little of everything, and everything happens to be great - we know, after two group breakfasts here, and clean plates all around.

Besides being an adorable, small-town-feelin' cafe with indoor or outdoor seating with a gorgeous view, the Port Gamble General Store & Cafe is also a sprawling little grocery boutique with all the things you want (tons of hard cider, candy, faux antique housewares) and none of the things you need (milk). It's pricey, but painfully cute and worth a peek.

Wondering what's upstairs? Oh, just a crazy aquatic museum that you MUST check out while digesting your scrumptious brekkie (seriously, I never knew there were so many species of crabs, and coral and seashells - I would have paid admission to see this collection, but it's free).

I should also mention that service & food was super slow on the first morning, and super quick on the next. So, as long as you go with a relaxed weekend attitude, you'll love every minute - sun-bathing, anticipating, satiating.

I love the town it is in. Very cute! I even like the store and the musuem connected with this cafe. But, we waited over an hour for a table. The servers were way too busy to help and not very friendly. The food was not bad. I enjoyed the sweet potatoe fries! But, the food is way overpriced and there is no kids menu!!

    I love this place!
They have a great little store with all kinds of trinkets and goodies from local businesses, I love the nostalgic games, toys and candies.
The restaurant is just great. I've had the clam chowder twice and it's delish, also a crab omelette. They have  great beers and wines, mostly local, and I have to try and make it to one of the wine tastings one of these days.
There are also some nice trails near by to hike  around on and build up your appitite for a hearty meal!
I try to go a few times a month.
The upstairs museum is pretty cool too, and one of these days I'll check out the museum downstairs, or go to one of the plays in the Theater house across the street.

I absolutely love Port Gamble.  It is such a cute, quaint town and the General Store is a great place.  I love that they have different menu items that you usually don't see in any other restaurants.  Then you can walk off your incredible meal in the Port Gamble Museum downstairs to learn the town's history and maybe meet one of the Ghosts that "live" in the town. lol.  I'd recommend this place to anyone.

Tourist stop during the summer months, luv it during the off season, as the lines, during peak periods, for the extremely addicting huckleberry ice cream is re-donk-u-less!!

Enough parking and fairly decent restroom keeps us coming back and making this a must stop place whenever we head to "that" side of the water.

    Ice cream is yum-o!

Port Gamble is such a beautiful town. I've been driving through it for years and finally decided to get off of 101 and check out their small downtown.

I was very happy to stumble upon the PG General Store and the cozy restaurant in the back with views of the water. It was lunch time and of course my wife and I were feeling a bit peckish. Our server was super friendly and we were impressed by the menu. The fish and chips was excellent, nice big chunks of cod lightly breaded and a generous portion of crispy fries. The clam chowder was delicious, lots of fresh herbs and a wonderful flavor. When we asked about the clams we were a bit disappointed to discover they were a frozen East Coast variety. I understand this was a bad year in WA for shellfish and bivalves, but if you're this close to Hood Canal and other sources it would be great to use local seafood.

I'll be sure to stop back at the General Store next time I tour the Peninsula.

Loving the "new" owners. They finally got the restaurant right.

Just went there for breakfast (it was busy, but not crazy). I was prepared to have some scrambled eggs, no toast (I'm in the gluten-free phase of my life) but lo and behold what did I see?? Eggs Benedict with gluten-free English muffins - woohoo! There were gluten-free options throughout the menu.

My friend and I split two different Eggs Benie. I got smoked salmon and she got the mixed veggie (awesome - I'd say the better of the two with kale and spinach). Both were surprising good. A pot of tea instead of a cup (nice touch!!).

Service was fantastic - friendly and timely but not pushy.

    Thanks for a great breakfast!

Very "so so" for lunch.  Cozy place - lots of character in sleepy downtown Port Gamble, WA - cafe is at the rear of a fairly busy "general store" (that's really just a gift shop - trinkets, artwork, edibles, etc. - not really a general store in the traditional sense).

Prices are steep - I ordered the burger - $9.99 - add cheese $1.50 and if you want bacon, add $2.50 more.  I just got the cheese.  The menu implies it's a flame-broiled "home made" burger - the waitress even asks how you want it done.  Well, it's actually an utterly pre-processed, pre-cooked patty that I'm sure they just microwave.  Picture those bags of "microwavable, pre-cooked" burger patties you get at the grocery - 20 pounds for $9.99, all identical.  Utterly flavorless, tough chewy "gas station grade" burger.  And the cheese was just a pool of molten yellow goo on the meat - no resemblance to any "real" cheese - just microwaved goo.  This burger SHOULD be priced at $4.95 or less - like it would be at AM/PM.  The worst burger I've ever paid $12 for ... Burger King is even better that the dreck these guys serve.  And a faction of the price!

My wife had the spinach salad which was just ok.... nothing amazing.  The chowder she got with it was runny and cold - she left most of it behind (and she's a big chowder fan).

Overpriced, low-grade food with so-so service.  To be avoided unless you're just after "cute cafe" factor.

We go camping along Hood Canal every year and ALWAYS stop at the Port Gamble General Store. I love the quaint waterfront town and this store looks exactly the way it did 90 years ago. We pick up a few things to grill, get ice cream and check the camping inventory for anything we may have forgotten. You'll pay tourist prices, but hell, we're tourists. The cafe is cute and the kids have a collection of pressed pennies from here. Excellent stop for stretching your legs, but it's really not that far from Seattle and the Edmonds/Kingston ferry. Would be a nice day trip into history.

Upon entering the store's area, one is transported into a more simpler time. In good weather, the owners have a grill going on the patio outside the front door so customers can purchase good eats. It's fun to stop and chat with the chef.

The exterior is very appealing and welcomes you inside. It's right on the waterfront. Inside, there is plenty of room to browse. From a multitude of gift items available, some hand dipped ice cream, to a locally produced cookbook - this place is just fun. There is a cafe where you can sit down and enjoy a snack or meal.

Prices are kind of high, but that's to be expected in this area.

The owners are involved in the local community and love to share their knowledge with others.
