The food is bland, and the restaurant layout is overcrowded with tables and chairs.  My friend and I went because they offered a carboloading special of all you can eat pasta the night before the Flying Pirate Half Marathon.  We were both really disappointed.

Also, the table behind us complained about their meal, and the manager only gave them half off the entree.  Not a fan.

I'm giving the Port O Call 2 stars only because I like the light fixtures!  The food was a huge disappointment for the money.  Go to the Red Drum or Owens instead!!!!

It was fun to look around their shop before dinner; lots of historical items, but outrageous prices.  Food was decent but portions are small for the high price you pay.  Scallops were good but shrimp was not.  Godiva chocolate cake was very rich and good.  Ambiance is definitely interesting and takes you back to a different era.

    I love this place!

When looking for some nightlife, one of my friends came across this place. Upon first entering all you can think is an old saloon/Victorian mansion threw up all over this place. It's definitely kitsch and tacky but we didn't care. They had $3 rail drinks. We care!

I can't really speak for the entire establishment as we only hung out in the bar/dance area. A DJ was spinning top 40 hits and dance favorites and the bar lines the side of the dance floor. There's a few old timey couches which we happened to claim for ourselves as our "home base" aka purse stashing station. The bartenders were great, and even remembered what I was drinking every time I went up to the bar.

The clientele was nice - mostly young twentysometimes like us with a mix of locals and tourists (though technically the locals were transplants from our hometown). Somehow we managed to meet every guy in the bar that night but it could also have been that we were the only group of girls.

This place was packed for a Monday night!

There is a pole tucked away behind the bar and the DJ stage. Of course I played on it. It's a full length pole for all your inverting and tricks needs, but be careful of the random wooden acorn fixture that is on the ceiling RIGHTNEXTTO the pole. Be careful not to kick it when going upside-downsies.

I would totally come back here. I had way too much fun not to return.

Ate dinner here the other night and the food was great. Some things are a little pricey but that have good specials. The atmosphere gives somewhat of a fancy appearance but other than that I was impressed with the food and the service.

We recently grabbed dinner here during our vacation. The ribeye was mediocre at best. I would stay away from the bacon wrapped scallops appetizer as the scallops were very small and their flavor was overpowered by the bacon, plus the sauce was flavorless. The fried shrimp was good as was the she crab soup. The kids grilled cheese sandwich was borderline unedible. The cheese and crackers on the table were well received by our group and the bread was excellent. All considered, we will choose a different restaurant next time.

I cannot believe this place has stars. If you are scanning for reviews, and are on the fence because someone told you this place is pricey and has a good selection of anything. This is your wake up call. Go somewhere else. If you want the story, read on, but you can stop here.

This is quite possibly the biggest dining mistake in dining of 2010. And we made it for the Christmas day buffet, essentially because we thought this was our only option for miles.

The staff are really, genuinely nice and neither my husband and I got sick (he's allergic to shellfish, I to pork), which is amazing for a buffet with almost 100% of one or the other (or both) in something.

Food contamination concerns aside, it's a dark establishment and the buffet was full of mediocre, gelatinous, canned or frozen processed prep foods. The pies were not house made. If I'm sounding snobby here, you'll probably love it.

At $26.95 a person, this makes me want to cry.

Note to self: ALWAYS PREVIEW THE BUFFET before sitting down to commit.

    Live and learn.*
*Other places open later in the day that are far more delicious.

Costly, drearey atmosphere and the food was pretty weak. $15 for a chicken ceasar salad which was bland, small and down right pitiful.

Some fish dishes were said to be decent but not for the price.

Only a review for the bar area:  Outrageous drink prices, service was mediocre.  +1 star for carrying Sugar Free Red Bull.

I was here on vacation really close to this restaurant. We did take out and the people were nice and the food was respectable.

If you're looking to break the monotony of questionable seafood buffets and stupid "Lick My Crabs"-type joints on the Outer Banks, the Port O' Call is a great solution.

As soon as you enter, it's clear this is not your typical beach restaurant. Hundreds of interesting historical artifacts and antiques adorn the walls. You get a taste of the turn of the century as you stroll around looking at the decor.

The food is a cut above most nearby places too. I've tried the mixed grill, featuring salmon, mahi mahi, and tuna. All were perfectly cooked and very tasty.

The service at Port O' Call is a cut above too. Our server was very attentive, often anticipating what we needed before we could ask. I noticed similar service being provided to surrounding tables by other servers as well.

All in all, the Port O' Call is a great dinner out. Prices fall somewhere between the pricey buffets (which often feature sub-par food) and the beach dives with decent food and distinctly less atmosphere.

Very disappointed!  We were a party of 14 with 7 kids ages from 1 to 12 and 7 adults. We had made a reservation for 6:30 and the table was ready for us, but that was about it. The dining room was mostly empty except for about 5 small tables, all of whom seemed to be waiting for something.

We started out by waiting about 15 minutes for the waitress to even take drink orders, but this was just the tip of the iceberg.
Everything seemed to be in slow motion here. Our waitress would disappear for 10 to 15 minutes at a time, and when she did come by, was horribly inattentive.  She had no clue what it meant to have young children at the table trying to eat.
We wound up waiting most of the evening, and in the end, one couple with us with a 2 year old had to leave to get the baby into bed.  We waited for the appetizers, waited for the entrees, and even had to wait for the checks, which were all wrong!

On top of this, the food was horrible. Several of us had the "Outer Banks Combo" for $22, and it came with 3 hard, overcooked med shrimp, 3 small hard scallops, and dollop of crab meat, and some lukewarm wrinkly greenbeans. Really pathetic, especially for the money.  One person's steak was cold, and the "AUCE Crab Legs" were just so-so.

We just wanted a nice dinner on our final night in OBX, and it turned into a very frustrating experience.

On a possibly poitive note, the Gaslight Saloon (bar) area looked very nice and the decor was awesome.  There was a live band setting up, which would have been nice to hear, but after almost 3 hours at dinner, we HAD to go.  Hopefully the service in the bar was better than in the dining room!

This place is within stumbling distance of a vacation home I stayed in recently. Even though we went there 90% due to convenience factor, it proved its self worthy. We arrived for dinner, and there was a 30 minute wait, so we pulled up a seat at the bar with our party of 5 and ordered some drinks. We shortly relocated to the super cosy overstuffed sofas scattered around the car area while we waited for our turn to dine. The decor in the bar had everyone oogling around, pointing things out, it felt like being in a kitchey antique store.

Once we were seated we were treated to great service thru the entire meal. Three of us had the all-you-can-eat crab legs and shrimp special and we were never once left waiting for refills. The server must have had ESP because he would pop by to check in if we were in need of more grub constantly. I definitely ate my moneys worth in fresh, tasty crab legs. I would totally come here any time!

I went to the bar here with my brother when we were on vacation. I guess thats the Gaslight.  Its a popular night venue inside a nice hotel type thing.  Tuesday night is the bikini contest.
