Last night was our first time at the Portside and was pleasantly surprised. The host, waitress, bartender and other staff were great. Evidently, so is the chef, as our food was great and portions and prices were great. Great menu with a little of everything and every meal they brought out that I peeked at , I wanted.  I wish we had a place like this in Escanaba.
I love a good burger med. rare with a nice char on the outside and boy did they deliver. I consider myself a food snob and in-home chef, and I could not do better myself.  I will definately be back next time we're in town!!!    Thanks for a good experience!!!
    Slammer!!!

I don't understand the comments about it being difficult to find good food in Marquette. We have had wonderful luck. First time at the Portside, wife had a fantastic Reuben on dark rye with about a bag full of potato chips, husband had a juicy, tender, tasty barge burger with swiss and fresh mushrooms. Oh, did I mention the $2 pints of all tap Michigan microbrewery beers? The sandwiches were about $15 total.

Next night, fish fry night! A favorite to all those who hail from Wisconsin or Michigan. Three nice chunks of cod in a wonderful beer batter and about a kilo of very nice french fries with a little cole slaw on the side. $15 for two, $20 if you wait until dinner and get 6 chunks of cod. It was very good! Did I mention the $2 pints of Michigan microbrew tap beer?

This is a nice brew pub with pro bartenders.

I have to mention Tu Kaluthia in the public library and the Landmark hotel ($2.50 well drinks and $12.95 prime rib on Sat.) just to point out two other great food troughs in Marquette. The downtown area is full of other choices, most look very interesting. Don't give up on this lovely quaint college town!

We love this place. Great little side deck for a bite to eat or a beer while waiting for your table. Yummy breadsticks, pizza, nachos and my son loves their onion soup. Local watering hole feel  Go...you'll be happy you did.

We have been going to the Portside since the early 80's when we lived in the area.  We no longer live in Marquette but come back every year for vacation.  The Portside is the first place we go when we get here and the last before we leave.
The atmosphere is wonderful, the service is terrific ( in all these years we have never had a bad service) the food is AWESOME!
The breadsticks are amazing I don't know what they do to them but they are good!  In fact I've not had a bad meal there.  The beef nachos are made with shredded beef not ground beef.  The fish fry is one of the best. And the bar is great.  Good beers I love that they focus on local beers.   If you are in Marquette Michigan you'll want to stop in at the Portside.

Face it, everyone goes here for one thing and one thing only... the breadsticks!  Went here with my fiancee and three friends a few days ago and between the five of us I think we had three orders of breadsticks and we tore through them.  Love the cheese spread that comes with it!

Whitefish cake is the premier Menu item. Busy.

The Pizza isn't what it was when it was voted the best in town in the 80's, but the bread sticks alone are worth the trip!

Came into Portside for a fish fry on a lazy summer day, and I was not disappointed when I walked out. The food was great, the drinks were good, and the atmosphere had that old bar feel. Overall, not a bad place to get a meal with some good friends on a weekend!

Best place we tried while visiting Marquette. The atmosphere is casual and cozy with a maritime theme including a cool fish tank. They have a fireplace in back and the bar is intimate. All staff was wonderful. Our food was beyond excellent! TV's if you want to watch a game. Not really a date place, more of a hang out with friends pub place.

I'm giving Portside 4 stars for their long standing reputation around Marquette as being a nice place to dine with a great food selection and THE best breadstick spread you'll find.  I will mention that recently I went in with a party of 9 and the three pizzas we got were sub par.  Maybe it was an off night or something cause they are usually pretty good.  A fail-safe approach would be the burrito.  Outdoor dining during the summer is also pretty nice and cozy.  Not much of a hang out place unless you stay in the bar area but if you want to yoop it up, you might want to keep looking or head next door, think its Aubry's, they are supposed to be expanding.

Really good food. Make sure you get the breadsticks with the sauce. They service was really good and the prices weren't to bad.

Great pizza, take-out and dine-in.  Nice service.  Prices are not higher than most other Marquette restaurants (must be related to food transportation costs).  One of my favorite places in town.  Decent atmosphere, and a mix of locals and students.  The server recommended a piece of chocolate cake that was about eight inches tall with a dozen layers...it was ridiculously good and split between two people lasted a day or two.  Don't go here everyday or you'll need to buy new pants.  Would recommend to all!

There are few places in Marquette that everyone knows of and has such high raves about.   Yes, perhaps it is due to the nostalgia of "Wildcat" days, or perhaps it is the familiar place mat that we all still smile at seeing and quickly take out or pens to do the activity once again.

However, Portside has amazing soups (try the onion soup), pizza (pesto and pineapple) and various well priced salads and sandwiches.  BUT, you have to have the breadsticks.  They are what is worth your time and keep everyone coming back.

Side note:  they also have good local beer on tap and a great atmosphere for conversation.  You will see families to the local art students at this establishment.
