I ordered the pork chop. The meat near the bone was still raw. Â The waiter neglected to check back with us halfway through dinner or I would have had them finish cooking it. Â So I just left it on my plate. Â When the busboy came by to clean up I told him to tell the cook that my pork chop was raw on the inside. Â
No one came by to apologize. Â No one offered to compensate me in anyway. Â I ordered dessert, they could have given me that in compensation. Â A small gesture that would have meant a lot. Â But they didn't think to do so.
I understand that mistakes happen, but I don't understand how they can treat it like it's not a problem. Â This is a very expensive restaurant. Â Worth the money when they prepare the food right. Â But not worth my going back knowing that if they fail, it's my problem not theirs.
OK, so I am going to try and help visitors out by suggesting this place. Â No, it's not on Whiskey Row... no, it's not a 'bar and grill' type of food place... no, it's not cheap... it's a bit more expensive and has darker lighting, more intimate ambiance, great higher-end waiter service, and an excellent beer/wine selection (considering it's Prescott and not a huge metropolitan city).
This place is a dinner destination for those looking to have food that is more thought out.. maybe a little more complex or inventive.. not necessarily a foodie place but kinda close. Â It is also a place to have a nice Sunday brunch because the champagne flows freely and your brunch is absolutely flavorful and very filling.
We went to several other places near and on Whiskey Row and we were disappointed with the commonality of them.. nothing special.. typical 'bar and grill' food which we are not fans of. Â This place, on the other hand, was a nice surprise: inventive menu (not cheap), more intimate ambiance, great import Belgian beer selection, and an equally impressive brunch menu (including champagne).
To what I had:
Meatloaf with brussel sprouts and potatoes.. let's just say the meatloaf was different.. not bad, just different and good, but definitely not as memorable as the brussel sprouts and I'm not even a fan of brussel sprouts! Â I tried a few of their brunch dishes (see our pics) and all three were outstanding... crab benedict was delicious!
So, now you know.....
They have the potential to be a really nice restaurant, but they're not there yet. The wine list is very expensive, though we found a nice Syrah that was at the low end. We ordered the prime rib medium rare. It came medium, a kind of ragged cut. But it was very tasty. The potatoes had a nice flavor but were cold. The french green beans were perfect.
If they can learn to focus on the details and get them right, this will become an excellent restaurant. Â If they don't, they aren't worth the money.
Oh my gosh!! I had read other Yelp reviews and was eager to try this restaurant. And, I was not disappointed! Just speaking for my meal-I had the special parmesan bowl covered walleye pike entree. Â Exquisite is all I can say! Service was excellent, and sitting outside was delightful. Seemed to me that if you were sitting inside, it would be a bit noisy, therefore 4 stars.
Review Source:Our group of sixteen came here this past Friday night and were blown away by the quality of the food and the overall service!
Prescott Station opened a year ago and is now celebrating their anniversary this coming week. We didn't have reservations, but as it turned out there was another large group coming in at 7:30. Since it was only 5:15, we promised to be out ahead of time so they could to set up. Â
As we came in, one of the Sous Chef's had a blow torch out making some (see photo) Creme Brûlée. So we knew we were in for a treat!
We started off by ordering some chips for the table. These had a home made taste and came with three different salsas. Each had a nice flavor, with one being a wonderful Five Alarm'er with great kick.
A couple of us order salads and were surprised on how large they were. I had to cut my "Iced Wedge" (see photo) to share because it was so large. It was a huge half cut iceberg and was lightly grilled and topped with some bleu cheese (mild Gorgonzola?) and pecans for $8.00. It was delicious.
For dinner, I ordered the stuffed Chile Relleno for $17.00. It was served with the poblano sliced down the middle, It had green chile and pork, along with some various flavorful cheeses. Yummy! It reminded me of some the best I've ever had in Santa Fe, NM. Â
It had this wonderful mole sauce on one side and a cream one on the other. It was topped with some noodles, Buckwheat I believe. It couldn't have been any better if I was in New Mexico. See my Taos/Santa Fe List: http://www.yelp.com/list…
My friends seated near me tried their small Ahi Salad Oriental for $13.00, (photo). While another had their smaller portion Hunan Short Rib for $15.00. It was slow cooked in a hoisin sauce that had a slight smokey taste which really set it off nicely.
Most of the entrees at Prescott Station are in the $13.00 to $21.00 range, with their steaks closer to $30.00. We found the wait staff on top of their game and felt their appearance was timely with water, drink refills and just being helpful. I have taken several photos of both the restaurant and the food. Â Our average ticket per person including taxes, but not drinks or graduities was a very fair $23.00.
We all felt after finishing our meal, that Prescott Station was a quality, Four and a half Star dining experience.. The Chef's range is very impressive and very southwest with a lot of green chiles. Needless to say, we were stuffed and didn't have any room for dessert. Â
Well, maybe next time we'll save room for the Creme Brûlée.
Enjoy!
This place is great! My husband and I have been twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times the food was delicious. For dinner, their special was filet mignon over wilted spinach with a super delicious sauce. It was amazing. My husband had the salmon in-time, which was very good but he kept eyeballing my filet. Â I did share but it was grudgingly;) we also shared the roasted beet salad as an appetizer with bite sized lemon tart and peach cobbler for dessert. All were very good... It was not cheap but if it were, the food wouldn't be as good. Definitely worth it!
Review Source:Ordered chips and salsa to start, to help take the edge off the hunger pangs. Habanero salsa and the green one were quite good, but the roasted chili salsa was over-charred tasting. Being from Texas I try bunches of salsas and know good from middling.
The ribeye was adequate, nothing special, but I have had better and worse. The side of horseradish enhanced the steak, to my taste. Wife had short ribs in hosien sauce (may have the spelling wrong on that!). The ribs, though plenty fatty, were falling apart tender and delicious. The sauce was a bit overpowering, but the wasabi mashers were on point and went well with the rib.
The chocolate covered cheesecake was over the top good, but way rich. The bite sized portion would be a better bet cuz a little of it goes a long way.
Bottom line, it was 2.5 stars, rounded up. Portions are big so splitting between 2 normal people would be a good bet.
Picked Prescott Station Grill & Bar for my Birthday Dinner (made a reservation)
I kept it simple since it was my first Dinner here (the reviews were so mixed)
I had the ribeye with mushrooms (asked for Medium and got Medium rare to Rare on the steak) it had a char on it with good flavoring so it ended up being enjoyable.
I also had the calamari strips as an appetizer .. I really enjoyed these (the dipping sauces are delish) If you want bread with dinner ask for it.
The service was good (my hubby didn't like her because she came off snooty and acted as if we were unfamiliar with a fine dining atmosphere)
There was a bussing station near our table (our table was hand selected by the Hostess) The managers and other employees were hanging out over there talking to each other through most of our dinner (very distracting when you are trying to have an intimate birthday dinner with your spouse)
My brother arranged ahead to have a flower bouquet he ordered placed on my table before I arrived and I must say the staff handled that flawlessly.
I will return to try the organic California beef that the Manager informed us they will soon be using.
This rating is based on the 4 times I have eaten at The Prescott Station since they opened. I have had 3 experiences that I would have ranked 4 or 5 stars and 1 where things were a bit off.
The food has been ok to excellent all but the last time I was there. I ordered a caesar salad and the salmon. The lettuce and salad dressing were room temp...and it was tiny. I have had the caesar in the past and it was on point. The menu salmon is described as having a brown butter sauce. When it arrived there didn't appear to be any sauce on the dish. Also, the spinach was not wilted and the gnocchi were not cooked...doughy and pasty. Back to the sauce. I requested more and received a bowl of olive oil, lemon juice and herbs. It wasn't emulsified and a far cry from the brown butter sauce that I've had in the past. I felt as though they didn't want to take the time to make the sauce(I arrived half an hour before closing).
My positive experiences were with the Filet and the Halibut. They are both incredible. The quality of beef was what I would expect for the price and their au gratin potatoes are phenomenal!
The service has always been remarkable from the bussers to the management. However, Thea was taking care of me at the bar on my most recent visit and she seemed to not want to be there :/
Hopefully things get to a more consistent level. I will be back.
As vegetarians, we were a bit reluctant to come here given the paucity of options on their menu, but a couple of people had recommended the vegetable relleno so we thought we'd give it a try for lunch. On the one hand, it was pretty delish; on the other, the server described the side dish -- a curious spaghetti item -- as something made with chicken stock. So much for caring about offering a real vegetarian option! Â (It was also pretty pricey for lunch.)
Review Source:What a great upscale restaurant near the downtown courthouse. Â I did not know that the owners are the same as Carefree Station here in North Scottsdale. Â The atmosphere is warm and inviting and very clean. Â The service was very good too, they were super busy and we were well cared for. Â The menu is nothing short of colorful and all over the place with great selections of all types of food. Â Some people may not like this but these folks do it well. Â I ordered the BBQ ribs and my wife had the salmon. Â She and I are pretty picky with our food and we were both very pleased. Â My son helped me chow down my ribs since they were so good. Â Even the kid menu had lots of different options besides chicken fingers and pizza. Â They had pot roast and a few other options I cant recall right now. Â The cost is pricey but when you want an nice upscale place to go in Prescott, I HIGHLY recommend it.
Review Source:Update. We went back for Thanksgiving. 4 stars once again.
Service: Excellent! Friendly and very helpful. Plus they did not try and hurry the meal which we really appreciated!
Food: Good, not great.
Butternut squash soup was killer!
Not as good as the Asylum's in Jerome but still pretty darn good.
Nothing special about the salad.
Entrees: Good.
The turkey confit was a little fatty but otherwise my turkey breast was delicious!
My wife RAVED about her prime rib!
Cornbread, butternut squash, pecan stuffing: Very good!
Garlic mashed potatoes: Very good!
Sweet potato basket: Pass on this one. It was dry and unappetizing.
Desserts: Awesome! Bourbon pecan pie and pumpkin cheesecake! YUM O!
Atmosphere: Excellent!
All and all we were very thankful that we choose the Station for our thanksgiving celebration!
We went here again on Saturday night as my husband had not been before. First off, I had my hubby check out the restroom as I had read the past reviews and saw the bad bathrooms reviews. He said the bathroom had been completely updated with new plumbing and new fixtures and was very clean which was good to hear.
We had a party of 6 and made reservations. Our table was ready when we got there and the waiter was great. He took the time to answer all our questions. We got the drinks and appetizers fairly quickly but the main courses did take some time. Once the food came though everyone was happy with their food and the portions are very good. I thought it was much better this time and improved their score to a 4 instead of a 3 last time.
I had the elk fajitas this time and they were tasty, although no way to really tell if it was elk because of the spices. Others had the three seafood enchiladas which were very good and a favorite, one had the four enchiladas which were great, one had salmon which was excellent and the others had a steak and seafood stew which they both said was great.
The place is a little noisy, but it was a Saturday night and it was busy. It wasn't so loud that we couldn't talk though. The menu is varied and different from when we went before which was better because it was not so extensive. I would recommend you try this place and we look forward to going again.
I am convinced that the 4 and 5 star reviews left for this place are either because a) a friend or relative of the owner(s) wrote it, or b) a person who has had very little opportunity to eat out in their lifetime wrote it, or a combo of both. This place is beyond dreadful.
I was up to visit my mom in Prescott from Scottsdale and she suggested trying the place as it was "new" to the area. From the moment I walk in, I was thrown by the decor: reminiscent of a Holiday Inn lounge, circa 1982. Fake plants, wall decor completely unrelated in subject manner or design, and tables and booths that seemed a cheap afterthought; that thought being: 'Let's not spend too much just in case we fold'. Â I got no sense of ambience, theme, or objective of any kind from looking around--it simply felt WEIRD, and I just couldn't put my finger on it.
Once seated (no wait), we were approached in a timely manner by a waiter who asked if we would like to order drinks. I ordered wine (decent enough selection) and my mother asked if the bartender could make her a Manhatton. The waiter was smug in his response stating that "yes, of course he could." When the drinks were delivered, mom took one look at her drink and said to me, "this doesn't look right". Upon tasting it, she claimed it was "acrid" and bitter tasting. I called the waiter over and stated that the drink wasn't quite right. After sighing audibly, our snobby young waiter insisted of informing us that it was "exactly what was ordered". He went to talk to the bartender and came back again to inform us that we didn't know what we were talking about at which time I calmly stated to him that it tasted bad, that my mother didn't like it and wished to order something else. After rolling his eyes yet again, he took the drink back and replaced it with something simpler.
I was livid. I looked at my Mom and suggested we leave. Now, I am a civil, reasonable soul, but to be treated as if we were annoying idiots by a smarmy waiter the minute we sat down was crossing a very important line of mine: one does not treat the people who are PAYING your salary with complete rudeness and disrespect, AND no-one talks to my Mama like that! I don't require too many "omens" to know I'm not in for a good night, so I take my hints and get up to go.
Unfortunately, I let the owner/manager talk us into to staying and getting us another waiter. I did not want to be rude, or make a scene, so we took him up on his offer. (Believe it or not, the waiter we "fired" actually walked around alternating smirks with glares towards our table the remainder of the night--what a
The menu was printed with every font from Times to fajita to wing dings in every shape size and color imaginable--a designer's nightmare and yet another indication that the concept of this restaurant was a mystery not only to the diner, but to the owner as well. The selection of fare looked as if absolutely no-one had any idea what kind of cuisine they wanted to serve, so by-golly, let's do it all! Enchiladas, prime rib, stir fry, seafood, etc. etc. no cohesiveness and so many options it was confusing. We finally ordered; mom ordered the seafood enchiladas and me the prime rib (which I was told, was "excellent").
When the food arrived I saw two dried out and rolled corn tortillas on my mom's plate with a side of what appeared to be goopy rice a roni looking vermicelli. It was about a tablespoon serving. By golly, guess what? It WAS a mix--tasted just like over cooked rice a roni and Asian flavor to boot. Yep, a side of Asian flavored, soggy vermicelli with 2 seafood enchiladas--by George, I think I've figured this concept out! Kidding.
The enchiladas were abysmal: covered in what appeared to be a Campbell's soup type cream sauce, curled, dried up tortillas hiding a few small canned cocktail shrimp mixed with some pasty sauce inside. Horrible doesn't begin to describe it.
On to the "prime rib". Are you tired of reading this yet? Cuz I am tired of writing it--sigh--however, I feel it is my duty to warn you...
A plate arrived with a perfectly shaped and formed piece of meat (I had no doubt it was shipped in its own little vacuum packed plastic that way, as opposed to actually being CUT from an actual ROAST) that looked as if it were glazed with some sauce. Is that teriyaki sauce? I silently asked myself. Nooooooo, I told myself, can't be. As soon as my plate was in front of me, I dipped my finger into the sauce. Nooooooooo.....I mean, yeessssssss....I mean, oh NOOOOOOO! It IS teriyaki sauce! I attempted to cut a piece, then when that failed, to saw a piece off. Chew, chew, chew, chew, chew. Had to spit it out. Most horrific raping of a piece of innocent meat I have ever laid witness to.
I'm out of characters. I will leave you by saying: STAY AWAY. Worst dining experience ever. Truly.
Wow! We decided to try the Prescott Station based largely on Yelp reviews, and I am so glad we did! What an amazing place. The decor is beautiful, the service excellent. And the food...! All I can say is wow. I had the Tropical Shrimp Salad and my dining partner ordered the Warm Spinach & Chicken Salad and Clam Chowder. Both were delightful - fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented.
Next we sampled the Red Devil Sliders and Flourless Chili Brownie with Cinnamon Ice Cream. So yummy! Sweet, without being too sweet, great depth of flavor and almost too pretty to eat.
Prescott has needed a restaurant of this caliber for a long time. Welcome, Prescott Station!
We were so excited to hear good things about this restaurant, and it is a beautifully decorated space. Â I have been there twice in the past few weeks, and can imagine it will improve over time. Â However, there are a couple of things that compelled me to write this review, something I do not do very often.
First of all, the menu seems to want to cater to everybody, everywhere in the world. Â It is just not possible to offer so many different types of tastes and do it all well. Â Guess what. Â Some of them really should be taken off the menu.
Here's the good news: finally a great place in Prescott for fresh, beautifully prepared seafood. Â The halibut was perfect. Â On my second visit, I ordered the salmon, after having been told by our waiter how popular and delicious it was. Â Imagine our disappointment when he came back from the kitchen to let us know it had been sold out. Â
My dining partner loves to order Chile Relleno as his sort of "litmus test" for good Mexican food. Â So of course he ordered it here. Â Imagine his surprise when his plate of food arrived, looking like a variety of different colored mush. Â Not very attractive, but then again, sometimes food can taste much better than it looks. Â Not the case this time. Â He found it to be tasteless and confusing, with a few other unidentifiable things on the plate. Â When the waiter came around asking how things were, he was told by my partner that this dish was inedible. Â The waiter was sorry, and he left to report it to the manager/host. Â
Now comes the part where this restaurant dropped from 3 or even 4 stars to 2.
The manager came over to our table, asking what was wrong. My partner said that in fact he found the chile relleno to be awful, he wanted to return it and not be charged for it.
The manager/host really only had one option. Â That would be to say how sorry he was, that he will take that off the bill, could he bring anything else? Â That he hopes to make our dining experience a wonderful thing.
But no, he did not do that. Â Instead, he lectured my partner on why this was such a popular item on the menu; that the recipe came from someone's grandmother in Mexico; that if they took it off the menu there would be a revolt in Prescott. As if he knew better, and had to teach my partner something.
My partner calmly looked at the table and did not create a scene, something he might have done at a younger age. Â You do not lecture a customer on why they should like the food. Â You don't use various excuses and reasons for why other people like it. Â You apologize and offer an alternative, and hope you keep these people as returning customers.
We will not be going back to this restaurant, which is too bad, as I really had high hopes, and I love fresh seafood. Â If the manager/host wants to please his customers, he needs an attitude adjustment, and some lessons in customer service. Â If he reads this and remembers this incident, I hope he tries a little harder next time someone wants to send back his food.
This place is AWESOME!! We went there with a large group the 1st night. We had many bottles of wine and tried the voodoo shrimp and other appetizers. The bread they bring us was fresh and all items are made in house. Between the 11 of us EVERYONE was raving about their entree and we all tasted everything. Delicious! The waiter was great too. I had the habenero shrimp it was good just not very spicy. My husband ordered the halibut and it was sooooo good! I don't even like fish.
It was such a good meal my husband and I went back the next night. We decided to sit at the bar where we met Thia the bartender. She was so awesome and made her own infused liquor and we tried several of her specialties and they were all amazing. I ordered the halibut with black coconut rice and asparagus chopstix, they are asparagus wrapped in filo dough and fried. The sauce around it was sooo good. After eating we had some creme brûlée and it was also fantastic. The owners sat at the bar and talked with us. The entire night was great! I will be trying their other restaurant in Carefree. This place rocked!
Yelp needs to have half stars...this review is a 3 1/2 star review. We visited on 9/18/12 for lunch. Requested patio seating which was lovely in spite of the traffic noise. Ordered the Red Wine Sangria which was very good..very refreshing and not too sweet. I ordered the Chips and (3) Salsas since I wasn't that hungry. Salsas were all very good. I even tried the Habanero Salsa which was spicy but had a nice flavor. Red and Green Salsas mild and flavorful. Hubby had the Breakfast Burger. He said the patty was tasty but the onion and tomato were way too thick...he removed them from the burger. The bun was delicious (it looked so good I had to taste a piece) but hubby said it wasn't "sturdy" enough to hold the burger, bacon, egg and all the toppings...it actually started falling apart! Now the desserts...WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! We shared a Vanilla/Lavender Creme Brûlée. AMAZING!! Wonderful flavor with just a hint of lavender...very lovely! We also had a "small bite" of the 24-Karat Cheesecake!!! An extremely light cheesecake covered in a chocolate ganache dusted with edible gold dust with a berry sauce and champagne sauce...MARVELOUS!!! Really like that you can get a small bite of the desserts so you can try them all. Great idea!! Our server, Cantenn, was attentive and happy to answer all our questions. Will definitely request him as our server! We will be making reservations for our anniversary on Christmas Eve so we can try the dinner menu.
On the negative side, the Ladies Room wasn't very clean and had an unpleasant odor. The area around the sinks was very, very wet. Apparently, people don't wipe down the counters after washing their hands when they're at a restaurant. Management needs to pay closer attention to the bathrooms. If a bathroom is unkempt it presents a bad image. I also noticed that the prices for wine are VERY steep!! I am a wine drinker and felt the prices were way too high for wines offered and for the Prescott location. As it stands now I would not order a bottle of wine due to the overly high prices.
My husband and I picked up a copy of Cuisine of Arizona and found Prescott Station. Â After viewing their menu, we made a stop there. Â Every aspect of our late lunch was immensely enjoyable. Â We were seated in a very roomy comfortable booth. Â Our waitress greeted us promptly and asked if we wanted beverages. Â The wine and drink menu is extensive. Â I ordered the white sangria which was delicious. Â While some restaurants offer red sangria, finding white as a regular item on the menu was pleasantly surprising. Â The serving was large.
The menu had many offerings that appealed to us. Â We started with the chicken nachitos. Â This appetizer turned out to be composed, stacked homemade nacho chips. Â The flavor burst in our mouths. Â Excellent. Â For main entree we selected the relleno offerings. Â My husband's included meat and I had the veggy version. Â To find a vegetarian entree on the menu was a delight. Â Both versions were large with properly cooked pepper shells and abundant stuffing in each. Â We were full but once we saw the dessert menu, we couldn't resist. Â We split a lemon tart which was out of this world!
Our only comment on a negative note would be the placement of the computer for staff use. Â Rather than placing it out of the way, it is located in the main dining room in close proximity to a number of the tables and our booth. Â Because attention has been paid to the beautiful interior of the restaurant (including a copper ceiling) placement of this utilitarian item would be better relocated to a more discreet location of the restaurant..
This restaurant is a wonderful addition to the Prescott restaurant scene. Â Our lunch was so good that we asked to see the dinner and brunch menus and we plan to return. Â Beautiful ambiance both inside the dining room and the patio, an attentive friendly staff and manager, and delicious food are a winning combination. Â Thanks to the owners for locating their restaurant in Prescott!
So happy Prescott Station has come to town! Â I am tired of mediocre food & they have definately delivered with some of the best food served in Prescott! Â I love sitting on the patio enjoying the beautiful summer weather.
I have been there about 17x and have tried most things on the menu. Â My favorite entree' is the halibut w/coconut black rice & asparagus "chop sticks" (i think they are called) this dish is always cooked to perfection & the flavor combination is tasty! Â I also love the scallops, & seafood pasta (can't remember what it is called) and if sitting in the bar I never pass up the beef machaca nachitos - YUMMY! Â Speaking of the bar... they have great bartenders that are attentive & innovative coming up with new drinks & suggestions if you aren't sure what you are in the mood for :) Â I love wine & their selection is extensive w/ all price ranges to choose from. My favorite dessert is usually the creme brulee' of the day.
My husband's favorite entree's would be the buffalo meatloaf he says it could be the "best meatloaf he's EVER had" Â also likes the lamb chops or the ribeye which is a huge entree' with au'gratin potatoes & sauteed mushrooms. Â Don't forget the grilled iced wedge salad & VooDoo shrimp appetizer!
I consider myself a bit of a foodie, I love dining out & having GREAT food (i have driven to the Valley for the evening just for a nice dinner) & I don't mind paying for it! Â I think alot of people in Prescott have gotten so used to being served previously frozen food for cheap prices that they don't realize that FRESH food cooked to order by a chef not a cook... costs money. Â How much you ask? Â 2 of us for salad, entree', dessert & drinks & tip is about $110. Â Brunch for 3 w/bottomless champagne w/tip $65. Â If your looking for cheap go to CoCO's or Denny's which is where I am sure most people in this town go. Â But if you want GREAT food & GREAT service try Prescott Station.
This is a beautiful restaurant...except, our server smelled badly of B.O which was pretty gross. The restrooms were pretty dirty. I always judge a restaurant by the restrooms, hopefully the dirtiness stayed in there.
They think very highly of their wine list. Very expensive for cheap wines.
To start, we got the calamari, it was very tender and the sauces were delicious! I wish I knew what they were, our server did not know either..
I got the prime rib med-rare but it came out mooing, I still ate it because I don't mind although I would have preferred MR.
My boyfriend got the lamb, it was really tasty and not too gamey. He also orderd med-rare and came out basically raw which made it really chewy. I guess it is better under cooked than over cooked though.
The price was pretty good for a "fancy" Prescott meal.
Loved this place. Â We got to sit outside which I highly recommend. We were here in the middle of summer and the weather was amazing, unlike Phoenix. Â The food was decent. Â I had the Moroccan chicken which was great. Â Very light on a bed of roasted vegetables and hummus. Â My wife had the scallops which were good. Â I was impressed that they made their sangria from scratch which has been hard to find for me. Â Most places make it from a mix. Â When they brought it out it was a bit too sweet so I didn't order another. Â Portions were good and prices were decent. Â When visiting Prescott (if I could rate the city I would give it 5 stars right away) and you want a decent dinner this is the place to go.
Review Source:This place is pretty good. I have been there twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. The soups are great. So far my favorite item they have is the halibut. The desserts are pretty good too. I like that you can get mini portions of the desserts so you can try a couple of things at one time. The prices are a little on the higher side, but I think the quality of the food warrants that. The menu is creative and not your average fare.
The only thing I had that I didn't care for was the huitlacoche tortillas. They are made from huitlacoche, which is a naturally occurring fungus that grows inside of corn. I heard of it several years ago and I was excited to try it, but the taste was a little funky for me.
The also have a great selection of beer and wine and a full bar. If you go for dinner just be aware that it does take a bit of time. They are usually pretty busy. But if you have the time and patience it is definitely worth a shot.
Great food, but very little bedside manner when seating customers. Â We had reservations for outside, several tables were available, but were told they were reserved, but not for us. Â The hostess didn't know what to do and the stocky guy just mumbled under his breath and set us at a less attractive table. Â Contrast this with a couple that came in a bit later.....the lady set them at the table that was reserved and went to see what she could do, but to no avail. Â When she came back she graciously set them at another table that was being cleared. Â A total different bedside manner. Â First impression are everthing, fortunately the food was good.
Review Source:Just awesome! Â Finally we have a REAL restaurant. Don't have to travel to Phoenix for great food.
I had ribeye. My wife had the salmon and my mother-in-law had the blue cheese stuffed steak. It was all great. Salmon not over cooked. Tasted very fresh. My ribeye was amazing and the sautéed mushrooms were out of this world. The martinis were great. Two of us had the margaritas martini style. You can pick whatever tequila you want. Of course I had Partida Tequila. Wife had a sidecar. Over all this is great.
A little concerned at the amazing variety if they can deliver on everything at the same quality. But just amazing.
Overall:
Great selection of overpriced wine and beer. Unexceptional food. VERY poor service all around.
My wife and I went there for our anniversary and were disappointed from the time our host attempted to sit us at a very sunny table to the time we got our incorrect check on our way out.
It took way too long to get served considering it was not crowded. Following a longer than reasonable amount of time after ordering, our server came to our table and sat our food on a tray next to our table. Then he left without saying anything. My wife and I were a bit confused that our food did not make it to our table. We watched it for a few mins until a different server came by, looked at our food, and took it to a different table, then he left without a word to us. I tried to say something to him about it looking like our food, but he totally ignored me. We assumed it was someone else's order. Nope. It took some time for that table to flag down that server who came back, picked up the food and then took the tray to the bar to inspect the receipt. Then he took the food to our table without saying much at all. Gross. The food was already sitting in front of other people and should have been thrown out, re-ordered and at a minimum a decent apology.
My wife and I were a bit dumbfounded but were starving. The food deserves a big fail as well. The southwestern fondue was so hard it broke the veggies and the fire was not lit. The meat from the other dish was supposed to be cooked medium-well. It was rare to medium rare.
About that time, a manager came by to ask how everything was. I informed her of the above events, the whole time she was nodding her head so I thought she understood. She took the fondue somewhere out of sight and returned with it lit with fresh veggies. Then she said she would give us a desert. Â A fair compensation, but she certainly missed the fact that there was much more wrong with our visit so far.
We finished our beers and asked for the bill. Then twenty minutes later we asked for the bill again.
When the bill did arrive, we found that 2 beers and the desert were compensated for the poor service. The bill also however reflected beers that we did not order.
At that point we just decided that nobody there knew what the heck they were doing so we paid and left.
I think this is supposed to be a classy restaurant, but high prices and long waits are not what makes classy restaurant. The best part of the event was on my way out to use the restroom. The urinal in the men's room was filled with ice. I expect that crude method of flushing at Moctezuma's on the row, but not at a place where my entree costs about $25. That made me laugh hard at the entire joke of a restaurant. I kept waiting for someone to tell me I was on a hidden camera show.
We will not return and I will be sure to steer my friends and family away from this overpriced disaster of a restaurant.
Beautiful new restaurant near the Courthouse Square. Excellent food, very good service. Love the amazing selection of beers and wines. They have a great Southwest menu in addition to the typical stuff you'd find in something that's almost fine dining. Try the Enchiladas Fruta de Mar if you like seafood; loved them!
They also have an enclosed dining porch, with a great view of downtown if you get the right table. We really enjoyed our visit, and we're looking forward to going again.
The food was tasty. Our server was not the greatest; slow and inattentive. B hated his soup bowl, but the soup was tasty. The chicken tortilla soup was Amazing! I had the ahi salad (petite size) and it was pretty good, but I was expecting more of a soy flavor to the dressing. The prices were steep! We had two diets, soup for each, the salad for me, and B had a sandwich, and with tip our bill was over $50.
Review Source:They seem to be trying hard to be a nice, more upscale restaurant but it was disappointing. Â The food sounded promising from the menu discription but I found it to be bland. Â My pasta sauce was far to watery so it would not stick to the noodles at all. Â My father-in-law ordered the Ahi steak rare and it came cooked medium/well. Â My mother said the Pollo Fundido was tasty. Â They offered free desert to make up for the Ahi. Â The deserts were very good and it was great that they cared enough about their mistake with the Ahi to give them to us for free. Â The service was fine. Â They have not been open very long so I would give them a try again in a few months to see if they got the menu nailed down more.
Review Source:It was very busy so they offered us seats at the "chef's bar" for a "culinary chef experience" AKA watching the salads being made. Â
Salad chef gave us a complimentary tiny taster of blue cheese from Point Reyes "Oregon."
The menu was designed by a kid who just got a Mac and thought using every cheesy font available for each dish title and 2 point font for each description is cool. Â Prices were out of New York or San Fran. Â Wine menu listed most expensive bottles first, "ya I'll take the $270 bottle of Merlot". .
Drawback of sitting at the culinary chef experience is watching salad "chef" grab lettuce with bare hands to turn in bowl and then wipe on a really dirty bar towel. Â Soggy over-buttered French bread slice search with worlds smallest salad served on an app plate.
I ordered the Jambalaya and was disappointed to get overdone, chewy mussels and a lukewarm dish of runny rice. Shrimp were smallest size available from Sysco. Â Flavor was a little bland, but to be fair, I like a spicy Jambalaya. Â
My girlfriend liked her swordfish over angel hair, but pasta was lukewarm and fish was overcooked.
For desert we tried the Flourless Chili Brownies and Apple Cobbler which were both tasty and comped due to my mention of my lukewarm food. Â
Our waitress was attentive and quick and an 8 year veteran from Murphy's. Â
They may put all the pieces together but with their price points it may be tough to cater to our famously cheap retiree population.
P.S. Had the misfortune of visiting the men's room with its kids size urinal and sticky urine covered floor and overflowing black plastic trash can. Â Women's room had an exposed black plunger garnishing the stall (according to my other half) and a Renuzit on the counter.
The place has only been open a week, so I give it the benefit of the doubt and award four stars despite poor service. If they had been open for 2 or 3 months and the service was the same as I experienced, the review would be 3 stars.
As I've hinted, the service was not good. For the detail in the menu and the prices they charge, you would expect a server to know it backwards and forwards. They don't, and not ony that, the response we got from multiple servers was a curt "I don't know" rather than "I'll find out for you." They also try to use a server/runner system, but it needs some work as well--we saw our food take a few laps around the restaurant due to a confused runner, and then the runner asked us who had what dish. If this is supposed to be a fine dining, foodie spot with prices at the top end of the Prescott dining scene, the staff needs the requisite training to respond to guest inquiries, be a little more welcoming to such inquiries, and the runner system needs to be perfected.
The food, however, was much better than the service, even though the prices were a little surprising for Prescott. Entrees are typically between 18 and 30+ dollars, which you only see at a few places in town. We had the filet and the halibut steak, both of which were delicious, with the filet cooked perfectly to the requested temperature. The filet came topped with a slice of herb butter that was ice cold and didn't melt, but I was fine with tossing it aside as I prefer the beef flavor to be unadulterated. The ingredients are high quality, and there's a wide variety of options from southwestern to chops to seafood (though the wide variety runs a risk of being almost too ambitious). The side vegetables were ok, but too much salt and pepper on the asparagus and squash tended to dominate the flavor. Overall, if they work out the kinks on the service and find the right price point it could grow into a Prescott favorite.
Some notes:
Whomever designed the menus LOVES all the different wacky fonts on Microsoft Word. Each item uses a font that relates somewhat to the food it describes. This creates a busy menu that is not visually appealing at all and is hard to read. The "themed" menu is reminiscent of a hotel diner, not a standalone place where you're paying $40-60 per person. For a place charging these prices the menu is very cheesy.
We had a drink in the lounge area after dinner, and felt like we were sitting at a busboy's station. The staff had spread out at the tables and was rolling silverware sets and polishing glasses, creating a racket like we were in the kitchen. If this place is trying to be at the upper end of the Prescott dining scene, it shouldn't make the guests feel like they're washing dishes. Do these tasks before or after service, or in the back of the house.
UPDATE, 7/9/12: Several very negative reviews for this restaurant were filtered from Yelp, while mostly positive reviews remain. Â I guess that Yelp uses some metrics to determine when a review should be filtered (like first time or one time users, indicating someone is submitting multiple reviews or fake reviews) but this seems a little odd to me. Â Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and people come to sites like Yelp to get those unfiltered reviews--positive and negative--that help them make their choice. So, read the filtered reviews with a grain of salt and make your choice. Â (link is at the bottom of the page)
