Strange as it may seem, SF sucks for BBQ these days. Especially in comparison to Martin. I just noticed another failed BBQ place in my neighborhood being closed and thought about how much i wish he would move his operation up here.

What do we have to do, to make this happen? I'm tired of dreaming of that tri-tip sandwich I get on the rare stop over on my way to my mothers for the holidays, it just isn't cutting it anymore.
Terrific tender tritip sandwich with perfect soft but sturdy roll. Delicious chili on Monday. Friendly Martin the owner who is a jewel of Prunedale, is a delightful character getting ready to serve all those Caltrans workers at lunch who are so wonderfully upgrading our local infrastructure. Go if you're able!
Review Source:I have only been inspired to review one "restaurant". Apparently I loved this the Prunedale Market too much. I raved  about the food and the owner so much that Yelp suspected that the owner had asked me to review it. Let me make it clear,
that no one asked me to review it. i noticed that 13 glowing reviews have been filtered. I guess if a place is so well loved by it's patrons that Yelp just can't believe it. BELIEVE IT! Why don't you go there and check it out for yourselves then unfilter all the 5 star reviews!
Thanks Yelpers for leading me to the Prunedale Market! I was roadtripping with a friend, we were ravenous and Martin knocked it out of the park. We had the tri-tip sandwich and the BBQ plate. Both were excellent--the BBQ ribs, sausage and potatoes were all perfectly cooked, smoky and just delicious. This is not a restaurant, more like a convenience store with food. No frills at all, just yummy food and friendly service.
Review Source:Driven by this place over 100 times and recently noticed it on Yelp so decided to try this past September.
The first time I came here I kept it simple, ordered a Tri-Tip Sandwich and had a cup of soup. Â Since then....I have been once a week since - this is my Go To lunch spot.
The Tri-Tip not dry/overcooked but perfect and with all the fixins. Â Also this sandwhich is HHHHUGE!! Â No way I can ever eat in one sitting. Â
So, a cup a soup & a half sandwich is a hefty lunch. Â Then I will take the other half to go! Â
I highly recommend anyone driving North outta Salinas to stop by and try this place out - you will not be disappointed!! Â As a matter of fact it is worth the drive from South Monterey County or the Penninsula. Â
Thanks Martin (The Owner/Cook) keep up the great work!
My husband has been stopping by this market and raving about the soups and sandwiches. Hole in the wall looks like no big deal..... but he makes up for it in his food. Chili Verde soup was soo good. Today we stopped for a sandwich and I am not a Ham person, I had a hot ham sandwich, the bread was good the ham was so moist and the soup was great. I think he has the best soups in town. Loved it!
Review Source:I adore this place. If you want true smoked BBQ and not the fake grilled or crockpot stuff then you want to come here to Martin's. If I have to get one point across it's that you NEED TO TRY THE SOUPS!!!
Besides the food being delicious it is always consistent.
I've had the corn chowder about ten times and it has never once let me down. It is always better than the last time I've had it. Â
Since last summer my father has renewed his love for true BBQ and after watching Pitmasters on TLC, I was into as well. We go out to eat at different place all over Salinas and Monterey  and this place is by far our favorite. This is real BBQ.
Martin is the man when it comes to BBQ. Â I usually stop in on thursdays (thats soup day) and get the Mushroom meatball soup drizzled over pasta, with short ribs. Â This is some of the most delicious BBQ ever, and he'll just keep stacking the ribs on there, until you say otherwise.
The orchard market is my personal favorite eatery in Prunedale. Â It IS my favorite BBQ eatery period, and I AM a BBQ snob.
He also has chicken, and does tri-tip a couple of times a week. Â Great place, and friendly, old fashioned service. Â Also I understand he's a former sous-chef from Original Joe's in San Jose.
Tell him you heard about it on yelp, and he'll have no idea what you're talking about. :)
