A nice spot to stop by while on the North Cascades, Que Car BBQ is one of the few places for food.  But it's a nice spot with tables outside and decent BBQ.  The brisket was a little dry and tough but the pulled pork was definitely a better choice.  Sandwich and chips will run you about $9, so it's a little expensive.  But it's also a nice spot to enjoy a break.  Note there is no restroom here but you can run over to the Shell Station next door.

Really enjoyed this bbq place in a traincar. The puffing black smoker out front smells great. There was perfect outdoor seating in the shade, with no bugs and it was clean. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Love that spicy orange bbq sauce. Great little pork sandwich with no coleslaw - it doesn't need it. The bbq sauce has just enough sweet and enough zip. Husband says "most excellent pulled pork and brisket". The meatloaf sandwich is massive and has good flavor.

I do want to note that we were there on a quiet afternoon. The inside of this place is tiny. In peak season or a busy weekend there must be lines out the door. The great experience made it a 5.

Ok value. Tried both the pork and the brisket. Sauces were ok (both the smoky and sweet were too sweet) but the meat comes already sauced (pork gets sweet brisket gets smoky) and there's too much of it. Coleslaw was good. Service was fast and friendly. Outdoor seating was nice. Military discount -- 5% -- was much appreciated!

We came here after a long day of motorcycle riding. Most of the other places in town were closed or were closing (it was 8ish in the evening). Their sign said open until 7 or so and they definitely meant the "or so" part because they were super friendly and greeted us like we were the first customers of the day and not the very last straggling in (which we probably were)! They only had two choices at that point in the day: the brisket or the pork sandwich. My husband got the pork sandwich and I got the brisket. The sandwiches were HUGE and filled with delicious smokey saucy meat. We both loved our meals and left happy and full. They also have a nice little craft beer and cider selection that went perfectly with the sandwiches. I will definitely return this spot during next year's trip and recommend that you check out this little BBQ gem nestled in the North Cascades!

We had the big (5 in bun or something like that) pulled pork sandwiches from here. I thought my sandwich was good but overpriced at $9/10. My wife thought that because the sandwich was big it was a little too much BBQ and would have preferred a smaller sandwich with a side instead. But all the same we enjoyed our sandwiches, we liked the person that served us, and we thought the outside seating area was cute and nice. We were also happy that we did not have to eat at the Buffalo Run Restaurant again.

This is a great find on the Cascade Loop.  You don't expect to find BBQ of this quality in this part of the country.

This is the first time I've had bbq since moving to Seattle. I've lived in 2 areas that take bbq very seriously, so I harbor some doubts about the PNW BBQ scene.

If Que Car is any indication, I will readjust my expectations with out regret.

Fist, I haven't had orange spiced BBQ since I was kid. To think that I had to come all the way to Washington to have it again is slightly amusing. I loved it.

Second, I love the pulled pork wrap. I know some purists probably hate it, but screw em.

If you are in the area and needs some food, you definitely can't go wrong here.

Im not a big fan of old train car food but while on my motorcycle ride my legs started to hurt and my stomic started to growl. I stopped and gave it a try and it was so good. I recommend for anyone to stop here and try some good family bbq.

stopped here while camping in the area.

Loved the Pork sandwich. Pork was well cooked and the sauce was outstanding.

I've tried many BBQ places in Seattle and this place beat them all. The owner was great, very helpful and friendly. open air seating out back, with pick nick tables on the lawn.

I would have like to see a combo plate on the menu, so we could have tried all the offerings. I didn't ask if he was willing to put this together, maybe next time.

the pork sandwich was extremely big. my wife and I shared it and it was just right for us.

We'll be back, next time we're in the area.

This is how this went down. 2 hours into my four hour drive, The Wife and I stop for gas next to a BBQ joint that is situated in an old train car- I want to keep moving and get some miles behind us, but I am convinced by my wife that this could be one of those little gem places in which memories are built.

I'm hot, I'm cranky, but she's really cute so I agree to get a sandwich.

All I want is a brisket sandwich, some macaroni salad and an iced tea.

My wife goes in and orders a brisket sandwich for me and a pulled pork sandwich for herself and is told that the beef brisket is just coming out of the smoker now and that it would be around 25 minutes before it would be ready for sandwiching- she tells me, I tell her I expect to be 10 miles away from here in 25 minutes and swap to a meatloaf sandwich.

The waitress says she'll bring the food out to us.

We sit in the backyard of the place and wait- we share a picnic table with a buzzed motorcycle guy that was nicer than you'd think, but I wasn't feeling very talkative.

And we wait- and we force conversation...and we wait.

Finally after 25 minutes I ask my wife if she thinks they forgot about us. She goes to check on the order and was gone for another 15 minutes.

When she comes outside I am ready to give her a hard time for abandoning me with our new pal- but she's pissed- and that's pretty rare with her.

The people inside said that my meatloaf sandwich was taking so long because they had to fill all the brisket orders first- then they told her that, by the way, we're out of pork- she says, what can I get instead?

    Brisket.

    Insert rim shot here.

So after almost an hour, I had a dry meatloaf sandwich, my wife had the beef brisket that, in my opinion, wasn't very good- the BBQ sauce had a pretty heavy whiskey taste to it and was a little too tangy for my taste.

But hey, when all is said and done, my Nestea in a can was cold, and we did make some memories...roll by this spot next time you're on your way home from Winthrop.

I finally stopped in to try this place out after a long day of trekking in the North Cascades (American Alps). I went with the 'Big Daddy' brisket sandwich & a beer to wash it down with.  The sandwich was as the name implies (BIG) so I was glad I opted for no sides.  The meat was tender with a nice smoked flavor (definitely the star of the dish). When it comes to the sauce it was a bit to thick & sweet for my taste.  However, I should say my preference is a thinner spicy / black-peppery sauce (read your typical Texas style table sauce [ex: Rudy's, Stubb's, etc]).  I'll pass this as a 'personal preference'.  Would love to see 'em offer sauce options however!  All in all Que Car BBQ exceeded my expectations (and the experiences I've had at most small quaint town food joints of the nature). I will definitely make another stop when ever I'm in the area again.

Delicious. It appears that everything is done freshly and with attention. I had the big bbq beef sandwich. It was waaaay big. More importantly, it was a very mellow and robust smokey flavor of quality meat. Fairly expensive....i think two meals with beans and one shared slaw to go was close to $30.  But for this neck of the woods, really good ingredients done with care, worth the price.

My wife and I had passed by the Que Car many times before we finally stopped in for lunch. We had been meaning to go there for a while, but usually wound up eating before we got to Marblemount.

The Que Car is in a great location with nice atmosphere, at least when the weather cooperates. There is a big lawn in the back with a lot of picnic tables for folks to eat at.

The folks who run the place were really friendly and helpful. The problem with the Que Car is the barbecue sauce. Our pulled pork sammiches were huge, and as far as I can tell the pork was very good, but it was hard to tell for sure because they were swimming in cheap, too-sweet barbecue sauce. Don't get me wrong - I love sweet barbecue sauce, but this was too much. It tasted like it came from the cheapest bottle at the Walmart and they used way too much of it.

That said, the sammiches were huge, pretty good, and the price was right considering the location.

We pass by the Que Car a couple of times a month during the summer and fall when heading over to the east side. We'll probably give them another chance and ask for them to take it easy on the sauce, maybe go for it entirely on the side.

I have to come clean about my bias.

As a raft guide, I'd come to the area to guide the Skagit once the Wenatchee died in late summer, and I had been spoiled--so deliciously spoiled--by Country Boys BBQ in Cashmere, WA.  Hours and hours away, but I like to think that BBQ aficionados like myself make it a hobby of sniffing out the tastiest of smoked meats in any locale.

So naturally after a day out on the river I decided to patronize the smoker-running caboose I had seen on my drive through Marblemount.

Firstly, I have to say that the help was great; the folks are friendly and helpful, and while the ordering area is small, I found it cozy and relaxed.  The outside seating area (there is a chair or two inside) is very nice, with picnic tables (covered and uncovered), though restroom facilities are next door at the gas station.

The food itself was pretty good.  It wasn't the greatest I'd had (I found the pork a bit gristle-y), but that was made up for by the fact that they had smoked it earlier this morning and I took comfort in the knowledge that this wasn't some pre-packaged faux-BBQ.  Win some, lose some.  This was largely a draw for me.  The food was good, and I'd go again, just not of the knock-your-socks-off caliber.

This is very unique, a caboose turned into a restaurant. Very small, 2 inside tables so go on a dry day and sit outside. We had the Big Daddy Brisket Wrap, very yummy. The BBQ sauce was very tasty. We got 2 freebies, potato salad and coleslaw, both very good. How did we get them? Treating the staff of two the way we were treated. He asked if we had an iPhone charger, I said yep in the car. Apparently someone left an iPhone 4 behind and it was dead, he wanted to call someone on the owners contact list to return it to them. We charged it long enough to access the contact list and gave him the numbers. This is what down home hospitality is all about folks, be kind to others and they will be kind to you!! Definitely worth a stop!!

This place is great! Who doesn't love a great bbq sandwich!? I got the brisket with a side of carrot slaw (it sounded interesting), and the guy mentioned that they have a combo meal, add a drink for $12.45...sweeeeet... my friends got the pulled pork with a side of potato salad.  So naturally we all tried each others food, and they were all quite delish.

The brisket was super tender and had a blast of smokey flavor, the carrot slaw was pretty tasty as well, it had raisins in it which complemented it well, but i thought it was a little too wet.  The pulled pork was the same as the brisket, awesome, if not a little better :) and the potato salad was on bar with the stuff you get at qfc, so i like it

I've only been to Marblemount once, and I doubt I'll be back any time soon, but if I do go back, I think I'd make it back to Que Car BBQ :)

YUM!  Southern slow smoked meats!  The PIG-WICH was yummy and the chicken wrap very good.  They could use some side items to go with the meats.
