Really terrific  food for the money.  Super nice and attentive staff -- thanks Kayla!  We stopped here for lunch on our way to visit the Round Barn winery.   I had a Greek Salad with shrimp -- honestly, some of the best fresh tasting shrimp I've had and they gave me plenty of them.  Felt like we were getting great food and an honest deal for our money.   DH had a angus burger and said it was equally really good.  Stop here again when I am in the area.   Try this place, you won't be disappointed.
Review Source:This place is consistently crowded with diners, NOT because of any schtick (like the so-so burger place down the road that proclaims itself "World Famous!"), but because the food is always great! Comfort food with a twist... We love the "Pizza Salad"--a really good chop salad served atop a cheese pizza. It is fantastic (and definitely enough for two). The menu changes all the time, so be adventurous and enjoy! If you can, save room for dessert, the house-baked pies are lovely.
Review Source:As soon as we got in town for vacation, this was the place that kept coming up for dinner. Â I understand why now! Â The food was delish (I got the Red Arrow Burger medium) and came out quickly (say what you will about a smaller space, Red Arrow is on it-we got out food within 15 minutes!). Â I liked that there was a decent amount on draft, both local and national favorites. Â It made for good diversity and gave everyone the chance to find something they liked.
Do keep in mind if you have a bigger party, it will be harder to sit together-there are about three tables that will seat six but the majority are four seaters. Â Our group didn't feel like waiting (this place seemed pretty perpetually busy), so we split up (not ideal, but we were hungry!). Â For a go-to place with good service, good food, and good ambiance, Roadhouse definitely set a great mood that we compared other places to throughout the trip.
On our way up from Chicago to Traverse City, we decided to stop for something a little more substantial than fast food. We quickly looked up some good restaurants on Yelp and settled on Red Arrow Roadhouse. We couldn't have been happier!
Atmosphere: very casual and woodsy. We were there at about 9pm on a Friday night, and there were still families with children there. The waitresses wore t-shirts and shorts, and we didn't feel strange at all that we were sort of rumpled and underdressed from our roadtrip.
Service: great! They kept our water glasses filled and got us in and out quickly, which is what we wanted.
Food: Excellent! My boyfriend and I shared a platter of quesadillas and a caesar salad that totally hit the spot. The quesadillas were crusted with parmesan, filled with a Mexican cheese blend and hot peppers, and served with a fresh tomato salsa. The caesar salad was what you would expect, but nonetheless very good. The food was simple, but everything was freshly prepared and cooked just right. You can't ask for much more!
One word - yummy!
We started with the buffalo shrimp appetizer, which was great. I had the rib dinner while my husband had the broasted chicken dinner (which might i add, was very tasty as leftovers as well!) Â We also took a slice of Baileys Cheesecake to go - it was delicious! The server was very nice and attentive too.
I went here with my husband and parents for my birthday and it was AWESOME. Â I ordered the pulled pork sandwich ($9.99), which came on a nice, thick bun and not one of those soggy hamburger buns. Â The pork also had a great flavor. Â I would certainly recommend this place and will be back myself.
Review Source:This must be the "it" spot in town because we tried to get in twice and the wait was insane. Finally just to see what the big deal was we stopped in early but just for drinks. Even still it was pretty full. As soon as you walk in the staff is all about the cheer. I mean beyond friendly, I was certain I was going to be hugged a few times. It's got that kitschy feel to it but a nice small town feel. Maybe something that should be on that Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives show. The food (from what I saw) is good ol' heart stopping, enough to feed a family from one plate, American food. The kind that is keeping Americans fat and happy about it!!
Review Source:The food is pretty good...nothing particularly memorable but given the lack of options in the area, it's a decent option. Â And the atmosphere is country and usually pretty full. Â My big complaint is the customer service. Â They did not come across as wanting to please the customer. Â When I was ordering, I asked if I could get the grilled whitefish sandwich on a pretzel roll instead of a soft roll. Â The waitress emphatically said "no." Â She said the pretzel rolls are for the grilled chicken sandwich. Â I was very surprised they wouldn't do this, and she said that they count the pretzel rolls and only have the exact quantity for the grilled chicken sandwiches. Â It didn't matter that we were one of the last tables ordering that night before closing. Â The only way I could get a pretzel roll would be to order the chicken sandwich (which is also a cheaper sandwich). Â Under no exception would they switch the rolls, and the management even had a meeting with the staff explaining this. Â Really?!? Â A meeting about not allowing a customer to order a pretzel roll with the fish sandwich? Â If the pretzel roll is so popular, perhaps they should start ordering a couple extra rolls and/or (gasp) allow the customer a choice of rolls. Â B for the food, B+ for the ambiance, and F for customer service...apparently due to the owner's/manager's unwillingness to put the customer first.
Review Source:After a little Yelp search, we found this place on Labor Day and stopped in, good thing we did.
Nice change of pace from the usual fare found along 94. Â
I had the beef and cheddar, very good came with horseradish sauce. Â DH had the prime rib burger, both were fantastic. Â Actually, his was better, so I know what I'm getting next time.
Service was prompt and friendly. Â Plenty of parking, plenty of seating..
The bar has a log cabin feel to it and is very unique. Â I decided to sit at the bar to eat and have a few drinks. Â The bartender was very friendly and the service was great. Â I started out with a half order of the buffalo wings. Â The wings had outstanding flavor but they were really tiny. Â Probably the smallest wings you can get. Â Â Next I had the Chicken Pita Sandwich. Â The sandwich was good, not great. Â It came with a side of fries that were good and some coleslaw. Â The slaw wasn't bad either. Â Overall I enjoyed the meal. Â The couple next to me had the Mahi Mahi sandwich and the grouper. Â The split up their meal and both said the Grouper was better although they still enjoyed the Mahi. Â Â The couple of my other side was eating desert. Â It was some kind of blueberry desert with Ice Cream on top. Â It looked outstanding.
Review Source:A nice American Food joint in a resort town!
Our friends got married at the Gintaras Resort (find my review somewhere on Yelp). After a night of wild partying, drinking, and dancing we had to find a place to satisfy our hunger and the hangover the next day. Red Arrow Roadhouse offered a variety of burgers and sandwiches that did just that.
Thumbs up:
1. Food: Both salmon and beef burger/sandwiches were awesome :D
2. Service: Friendly servers who were nice and helpful :D
3. Ambiance: Liked the moosehead pinned on the wall staring at me while I was eating :D
Thumbs down: Nothing really : )
Charming roadhouse with a retro log cabin appeal. Was a little hesitant to stop after one review spoke of a $100 tab for dinner for two. Â Not sure how they did that, must have included copious amounts of alcohol, appetizers and desserts. Â The most expensive item on the menu that I saw, was a fish entree at $22. Â Many salads and sandwiches can be had in the 9-11 range. Â Most full entrees are in the 12-17 range with a few outliers like the fish and some steaks. Â We had dinner for 4 with a total tab of 54 and change, though no booze or aps.
Review Source:I really enjoy this place. I've been coming here for many years and highly recommend it to anyone staying in the Union Pier vicinity.
The service is exceptional and the food is consistently of good quality. Nothing revolutionary here. Â It's purely American cuisine done well. The beers on tap feature local brands such as Bell's and even more locally, Greenbush. The wine list is sparse but rounded. Â
The main menu features a great Whitefish, tasty ribs, and  delicious chicken enchiladas.  Today I chose the  peppery New York strip with Romaine wedges topped with bacon, blue cheese and cherry tomatoes from the Specials Menu.  I washed it down with a Coppola Zinfandel.  A warm blackberry bread pudding with ice cream  was shared for dessert.
You can't go wrong in this menu and there's something for everyone.
The food was good and I would recommend to go here of you are looking for some decently priced and fair. Â The food wasn't anything over the top but was enjoyable. Â I had the fish tacos and my wife had the Italian beef. Â The tacos were pretty good. Â The sides that came with, I could have done without. Â My wife didn't rave about the Italian beef but she said that it was alright.
Review Source:One of our favorite places to dine in Harbor Country. Â Great food and staff!!! Â We have been going there at least once a week since they opened over 20 years ago!! Â Weekend nights in the summer can be really crazy--- Â a lot of wild, out of control children.
Has always been one of our favorite restaurants in Harbor Country!!
I took my girlfriend to New Buffalo for her birthday. I was told to check this out from my dentist who happens to be from New Michigan. So I checked it out.
Can't say too much about this place, since I've only been here once for lunch.
I say 3 stars, A-Ok, cause I would come back for the House-Made Blue Cheese Potato Chips!!!
Chips are made in house and are not greasy at all. They top it with melted blue cheese, sour cream, and scallions. We ate the whole plate!
I had the Mahi Fish Tacos(grilled). Not the best fish tacos, but they were tasty. They serve them on a gordita shell, similar to taco bells gordita shell. Basically fried pita bread. I did like it though.
My girlfirend had the enchiladas. She seemed to like them It was a huge plate. She didnt finish, but enjoyed them.
Had a desert, it was a baked fruit pie with ice cream. It was homemade and good.
If I ever make it back to New Buffalo, I would for sure hit this spot up again.
Stopped for a quick dinner with 2 families enroute and loved it. Â Service was great---she could tell we wanted to keep our stop quick and she did everything she could. Â The Jambalaya was fantastic and everything else was solid to above average. Â Good beer selection, casual, busy atmosphere...
Review Source:Red Arrow Roadhouse didn't turn out to be what I thought it would be. Â I wasn't expecting Swayze, Roy from Emergency, Sam Elliot or Kelly Lynch, but still. Â I thought it was going to be a bit fancier than it was. Â For whatever reason, I thought it would be like the roadhouse not far from Indiana Beach where I went with my parents once or twice years ago. Â It wasn't. Â
The Roadhouse is a bit of a drive outside of New Buffalo down the eponymous highway. Â The decor is cabin chic, with old signs and stuffed animals hanging on the walls. Â The grub is comfort chic. Â
I opted for the pork tenderloin. Â She opted for the burger. Â I made a bad call. Â I just wasn't thrilled by the tenderloin. Â I just wasn't thrilled by the whole experience. Â Maybe it was because it was off season and nobody was there on a Saturday afternoon? Â I don't know. Â Still, it's better than Redamak's. Â What isn't?
I suppose if you're staying in Union Pier, this is a decent place to go. Â If you're staying in New Buffalo, there are better options that are closer.
Three stars.
Much to my surprise, they put some effort into the food here. (*Some* effort, that is. Putting a thick layer of Parmesan on a delicate whitefish was a bit puzzling.)
But $100 (incl. tip) for an appetizer, two mains, and a few beer is absurd. It's a roadhouse in rural Michigan for chrissakes, not a Michelin-rated bistro.
The food is good and it's always busy.
We stop in here when we road trip to GR or to eastern Michigan to see the partner's family.
I've had several different things from broasted chicken to fish and chips and occasionally whatever is on special. Â Food is always good, fresh and the specials show some imagination.
Drinks are good and the beer selection is great.
Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area
I dont like to wait, so I tend to be here at crazy times. Â Be sure your party is altogether when you get to the door. Â Wait outside and let someone check it out before you all rush the door. Â
We love Red Arrow Roadhouse. Â Ribs, yum, coffee is normal restaurant coffee so my parents like it. Â Specials are always fantastic, and the deserts are really reliable.
Its just a regular restaurant, people, please dont expect fancy michigan artsy cafe food. Â Its a bar.
One of my old standby's for dinner. Who doesn't love a roadhouse? And there's all sorts of stuffed animals(like moose and big cats, not teddy bears) hanging on the walls. I've had the whitefish, fish tacos, and walleye and loved them all(especially the tacos). Decent beers on tap. And it's kid friendly.
Review Source:Been going here for 15+ years. Used to be a family favorite for years. Recently went there on a Sunday night, with no wait, and were rudely pushed out by an awful manager. After spending $100+ and staying at our table for no more than 40 minutes, a very immature manager (maybe even owner?) came over and told us he was "desperate for the table and needed us to hurry up." Meanwhile, we had yet to even finish our margaritas that we ordered! On the way out, we let him know that we would not be returning due to his extremely rude comments and he was far from polite in his response.
Awful experience after years of frequenting this establishment. We will never return again.
This place came highly recommended by a local, and it did not disappoint. Â There was enough variety to please 4 adults and 5 kids. Â From tasty apps to whitefish, ribs, and chicken enchilada entrees, to kick-butt deserts, this place is a keeper. Â The coconut cream and keylime pies were top notch, the food was timely, and the service solid. Â Parking is tight, and watch out for cars on us 12!
Review Source:Our hosts for the weekend said we had to eat here and we weren't disappointed. The food is tops! Order the chips w/blue cheese for the table so that you can try them (no one should eat the whole serving alone.) Same goes for the dessert. We split the bread pudding w/ice cream 4 ways, well, if we weren't stuffed from dinner, we could have split it 2 ways. As for the main course, I went w/the pasta, chicken, peas, prosciutto ham (I can never remember the names of dishes.) Was great hot - and cold the next day for lunch. Plenty of parking - lots of seating, but the place was packed by the time we left. Great service.
Review Source:If you find yourself cruising through southwest Michigan and you're looking for a good meal at a reasonable price, stop by the Red Arrow Roadhouse. Their menu isn't fancy, sporting seasonal items with country cooking technique, but I've never been disappointed! My last visit I sampled the baby back ribs and broasted chicken. Both were great and the casual dining environment provided a comfortable home-style feel. You'll also notice if you're passing through or visiting during the winter months that this is one of very few restaurants in the area that doesn't close for the season. Â A reliable place for a satisfying meal and a drink (or two).
Review Source:Came here for a late Saturday night dinner. We got here around 8:00 on a Saturday night. The place was packed and almost all the tables were taken. The inside reminds me of a log cabin up north. Â We started out with zucchini fries with marinara and blue cheese potato chips. Both appetizers were very good.
For my meal I had the chicken Parmesan. This dish was served different than the standard chicken Parmesan. It was breaded in panko crumbs and Parmesan cheese served on mixed greens, tomatoes, kalamata olives and artichokes. It was a very large portion and I was glad it didn't come with pasta! I loved my chicken Parmesan salad, very tasty and different from the norm.
Great place to grab dinner with a big group. They had pretty big tables to accommodate large parties. Our waitress was very helpful and attentive. Â When we left around 10:00 the place was still hopping!
Decent and convenient. The food is good. Kid friendly atmosphere. They have a kiddie menu and provide crayons and a coloring kiddie place mat. They also have kiddie cups. Â As you can tell, "kiddie" stuff is a requirement for us and the Road House serves its "kiddie visitors" well. Â Prices are a bit on the high side. Â I look at the menu and compare it to restaurants/bars in Chicago, but then again, I am from Chicago. Â Don't let that stop you from coming here. You really can't go wrong at the Road House. It gets very busy during the tourist months (June/July/August). Â Parking fills up fast.
Review Source:I admit that I never met a roadhouse I didn't like, having grown up in the northwoods of Michigan, and having a life-long love affair with things knotty pine, but this is a great place to stop for lunch or dinner if you are in the Southwest Michigan area, and specifically near Union Pier.
My friend Doug and I actually started out here for delicious drafts of Bell's Ale and Anchor Steam, while contemplating where to have dinner after an afternoon of checking out the local antique shops. Â The have 5-6 good beers and ales on tap, and an extensive choice of domestic and imported beers. Their by-the-glass wines are all high quality California choices. The Chardonnay was one of my personal faves, Columbia Crest Grand Estates.
After an aborted attempt to have Mexican down the road (read my review of Rancho Grande), we ended up back here at the Roadhouse, and despite its full capacity, we managed to get a couple spots at the bar. I had fish tacos with an incredible chipotle cream sauce, and Doug had enchiladas suizas. Both meals were incredibly fresh and flavorful, and prepared quicklhy, considering that the place was packed with families having dinner and others anxiously watching a Cubs divisional championship game.
The staff at the roadhouse is very friendly, efficient, personable and knowledgeable. Â They really saved that evening for us dinner-wise. So come for dinner or at lunch for their burgers and sandwiches, which I've had before at lunchtime when the place was quiet and not as packed. It's obvious from the chef on down, they all know what they're doing and they like what they're doing. Combine that with excellent food and knotty pine, and you can't go wrong!
