I went to Red Fox to see a comedy show. Â This area is out of my normal hang out range, so I was excited to see what they had to offer. Â Turns out...not much.
The decor is a bit bare - lots of red and black paint, a few beer brand neon lights, thin tables and chairs resembling fold out models, and a tiny, tiny disco ball (I tried to take a photo but it wouldn't come out. Â Bummer.) Â I noticed that the tables actually had numbers taped to the top - maybe to help the wait staff? The whole place reminded me of a barbecue restaurant someone had stuck a bar and stage inside of. Â As for the bar....
The bar area is decent and seats about 15 people. Â I sat at the bar, and the bartender was really great - upbeat and with the right amount of attention. Â
The menu was basic - a few flavors of wings to choose from, a few sandwiches, a few entrees, and a few salads. Â Because my appetite was light, I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and a Grey Goose and tonic. Â The salad took a very long time to come out. Â I'm thinking they ran to the Kroger up the street and got a salad from the deli. Â They must have gotten the plastic utensils from there too - nicely wrapped as if I'd ordered a To Go meal. (Yes, plastic utensils.)
The salad was basic - iceberg lettuce, a few sliced tomatoes, generic grilled chicken (the pre-cooked kind from a bag), shredded cheese mix and croutons. I didn't take a picture of it, but I wouldn't tell you to order it anyway. Â As for my Goose & tonic, it was watery the first time I tasted it and pretty much unrecognizable by the time I was downing my last slurp. Â I know bars sometimes play tricks with their liquors and I'm sure I got played. Â
For this to be a sports bar, the TVs (while plentiful) were so high up on the wall that I'm not sure a patron would enjoy watching them. Â And I didn't notice any TVs around the bar at all, which nowadays, most sports bars have.
The only upside to this place is that there is lots of parking, but other than that, there are a lot of sports bars in town that have better food and a better atmosphere. Â Maybe I would have liked Red Fox better if their icon wasn't a red fox, but actually Redd Foxx - photos of him would have brought some much-needed coolness to the place. Â But then again, I don't think he would come here either.
