I have been coming here for years. Â This places claim to fame is the fact it doesnt change! Â Perfect apres ski bar. Â Beer served in mason jars. Â I have had one of the best filte mignons I have ever had in my entire life here. Â Nice laid back fun loving crowd.
This bar doesnt even seem touristy even though this is really their main customer base I would assume being a ski bar. Â But it is so much more than that. Â Cozy, great food, and great service. Â I will be looking forward to my next visit in about a week!
Since my adult children were young, we have an annual tradition of dinner at the Red Parka Pub the night before Thanksgiving (after our drive north). The ribs, salad bar and ambiance of the pub is a special experience and now that they are on their own, it is so cool that the "kids" try so hard to make this dinner if they can sneak out of work early enough for the 3 hour drive north! Â The memories, the fun, the food and the new stories we write make it all so special. Family and Tradition are what Thanksgiving and the holidays are all about and for our family, the Parka is part of the tradition and joy of Thanksgiving! Â Highly recommended for great food, big gatherings (did I mention my 7 kids) and great times. We try and get there early enough to get a seat in the pub to enjoy the first set of the band playing that night.
Review Source:I have been here several times of the years and I can tell you place used to have great food. Now it simply is not the case. The ribs are still good but that is about it. Stay away from the steak tips as they say secret recipe I doubt they know where they come from, bland and way undercooked. I recently ordered the prime rib which was ordered medium and came out raw, I could barely saw through it with my knife and it really didn't have alot of taste. The twice baked potato was a dry salt lick that must just be a frozen foodservice potato they heat up and place on your plate. I also ordered the salad bar which when I tried the baked beans they tasted carbonated like they had been sitting around quite awhile.
The bar atmosphere is quite fun and they bartenders are very friendly and make good drinks hence the two star rating.
We stopped here for dinner on the way back from skiing. I was pleasantly surprised with food and service. Our waiter was very attentive. We shared two specials the Steakhouse offered, macadamia encrusted ahi tuna, and bacon wrapped venison. The raspberry sauce for tuna was the perfect compliment. My only regret was not ordering red wine with the venison. Steak House is one of the top five restaurants in the North Conway area.
Review Source:Fun ski bar with live music. Â Originally, we wanted to eat in the restaurant because we didn't realize that the bar had a separate entrance. Â Then we were given a wait time of 40 min and told to go wait in the bar. Â So we went back outside in the single digit temps and found the bar entrance. Â Unfortunately, there was a 30 min just to get into the bar! Â While waiting in the lobby, we decided to get a table in the bar so we could listen to music. Â
My friends weren't too impressed with their food. I had the 3/4 rack of ribs and I enjoyed them. Â The drinks were reasonably priced. Â I thought the staff were all friendly. Â
I think people tend to inflate the reputation establishments in old ski towns. Â Maybe it's nostalgia or pride. Â Really, I don't know why people speak so highly about the food. It was above average - I had no problem with it. Â Just trying to temper expectations! Â People on the chairlift might convince you it's a must-see and I disagree.
We ended up here after reading the reviews, and could not have been more disappointed. I would have given the food two stars, but our server made the overall experience worthy of only one. She was VERY rude and condescending. If you like your steak charred black on the outside but undercooked inside, you will like this place. If you actually like the taste of steak, I would recommend you steer clear of this overrated restaurant!
Review Source:We visited in the off-season but it was still pretty hopping in the bar area on a Friday night. The kitschy ski paraphernalia is cute, the popcorn machine is fun, and the beer is great. The food and service are....eh. My french onion soup was quite good but the special (risotto with white truffle oil and lobster) was pretty terrible. I probably should have known better than to order something like that at what is essentially a pub, but .... it was super greasy and somehow not very tasty (I had to add a lot of salt) . My husband's burger was fine. Not bad, not great. The service wasn't too hot -- our server actually seemed stoned and we had to flag him down a couple times. The host or manager (?) meanwhile stopped by to check in twice, so that was nice. On the whole, it fed us, we got some good beer, but I'm not sure it's worth waiting in line for.
Review Source:Over priced tourist trap. Food was not all that bad. Did not live up to the menu hype and portions were very small. Atmosphere is "tourist rushed" mixed with local rummies at the bar. The service was pretty good. Not like it used to be many years ago before Story Land somehow became the Mecca of Mac Mansion dwelling ticky tacky drones.
Review Source:This place is great, i stop by everytime i visit family in North Conway. Reminds me of a 1980's movie-esque ski bar. Serve me up some cold beer in a mason jar and keep them comming. ive waited up to 20 minutes before for the crowd to die down so that i could squeeze my way in, and id have waited twice that. This place is just awesome. Tip: skip the restraunt, go in the back entrance for the bar. DRINK UP!
Review Source:My wife and I were not planning on trying the Red Parka, but when we drove by it was packed and based on yelp it looked like a good place to check out. We asked about it at the hotel were staying at which was a few miles up 302. We were told it was excellent and go in through the Pub.
There were plenty of open seats at dinner on a Friday night in the pub side which was a little surprising. The decor is, divey ski bar style I would call it. Some people may not like that and they should just go to the restaurant side. The food is the same either way.
I ordered the steak tips and spare ribs combo and my wife got a special which was a pesto seafood fettuccine. My steak tips were very good and were more about the quality of the meat rather than the marinade. The spare ribs had a sweet bbq type sauce which was very good. My meal also came with rice which good. My wife absolutely loved her dish. The scallops and shrimp were huge along with large chunks of lobster meat. We had the celestial cookie for dessert which was very good though kinda hoped the cookie was a little bit bigger. This is one of those warm chocolate chip cookies with ice cream and whipped cream type of desserts.
They have a good beer selection on tap and the bar tender makes stiff drinks. While in the North Conway area I stick with Tuckerman's Ale and my wife had a cape codder which was a splash of cranberry juice.
Probably the highlight of the night was the bachelorette party seated close by. I have no idea why they would come to this place, but a bunch of drunk cougars is certainly funny to watch.
We've driven by this place many times. We're up in the MWV alot, either hiking or skiing. Â Last week we finally stopped in after doing Pierce and Jackson. Â It was a beautiful afternoon so we sat outside in the back patio. Â The fence consists of many old skis. Â Very nice touch! Â The beer list looked pretty good. Â Best of all they had Guiness, on tap. Woo-woo! Â I've been looking for a place with a Guiness tap in this area for years and finally I've found it. Â Â We had other plans for dinner, so just grabbed the chips, salsa and guacamole appetizer to tied us over. Â
We took a peek at the interior and it looked like a comfortable spot. Â There was a blues band setting up for the evening. Â Some of the seating off to the side looked like ancient ski lift chairs. Â Not sure how comfortable they'd be, but looked pretty cool. Â Yup, we'll be back for more Stout, and to check out the food and the music!
This place was hoppin' when we arrived to grab a bite to eat while in NH for a ski weekend. They have a strick head count so we waited a few minutes for a table to open up before we could even get in the door. The menu had some very gourmet offerings, which was a bit surprising given the rough and tumble decor. The food was good, the waiter could have been a bit nicer, but overall we had a great time and could imagine if we stayed to hear the live band a bit longer, it would a been a fantastic night out.
Review Source:Don't fill up on the amazing salad bar! They know how to cook a steak rare. Service is 50/50. I went there two nights in a row while in North Conway - one night the woman served us well but had an iffy attitude. The next night the guy truly loved his job. The food was great and there were several things I would go back to try.
Review Source:The parka is the best! My family has been going here for ages. I still remember being "too little" to get the salad bar and feeling so very left out. I still remember ordering prime rib triumphantly --at the ripe old age of 4-- to the laughs of all. Â I'm finally visiting the Parka on my own and it was well worth the wait. Â The salad bar is awesome. Greens, veggies, potato salad, pasta salad. YUM. Â The ribs, delish. Â The steaks fabulous. Onion soup, perfect. Â The drinks are just right, the staff is amazing. Â It's just all good every time. Oh. The dessert was OMG fabulous as well.
And the pub! We have had many memorable nights in the pub. Â I grew up hearing tales of "the ski club and the Red Parka Pub". Â It has always lived up to it's legends. Â Great atmosphere, great drinks and great entertainment.
Yum!! After a long day in the woods or skiing this is the place to be. We ate in the pub part, service was a little slow but the food hit the spot!
My dad got prime rib, my mom got a cheeseburger and I got the chicken Dijon meal. I was pleasantly surprised by my meal. When I first got my meal, it was just a piece of chicken and some french fries. BUT, the taste made up for the lack of presentation. Chicken was cooked to perfection, and the coating was just the right balance of bread crumbs, honey mustard and sour cream. It made it so it wasn't dry at all.
My parents got beers and I got the Raspberry twist, very good and recommended for the full pub experience. Bands usually start at 9 pm if you're looking for some entertainment too.
Been coming around this area for almost 30 yrs, and had never made it here. Â Food and staff very good. Â Wife had the petit filet and said it was great. Â The ribs were also really good with a nice sweet sauce. The cheese stuffed breadsticks were as good as other Yelpers had said. All in all a very nice experience.
Review Source:Great food. Great beer. Great time.
as for the restaurant side:
Awesome Ribs, probably the best around the North Conway, NH.
Amazing BBQ sauce, a must buy.
As for the pub part:
Get here early, fills up quick and gets a huge line: 1 in 1 out. Easily the best time in the North Conway area, lots of fun, good mix of young and old. always a great people watching time. Classic ski bar. Great live music, free popcorn.
Plus the beer is served in mason jars. And they have Tuckerman's Ale fresh on tap from the brewery a few miles away.
a true nh institution.
I love you, red parka pub. I wished I lived closer to you so that we could have a closer relationship. What took me so long to find you? Let me start with your BBQ RIBs- best ever! I am a hard critic on ribs in restaurants - and yours by far were the best cooked and tasting. For dinner I moved on to your prime rib - fan-tastic!! Cooked med rare just like I ordered with great flavor. You really made me feel at home with beer served in the cutest mason jars. The atmosphere was fun - pub style, just what I was looking for after a day of skiing. Red Parka, you will be a tradition for my ski trips for years to come. xo
Review Source:Came here last weekend with a group of six for drinks and some light fare and was thoroughly disappointed. We entered through the pub, which was our first mistake. It was loud and the staff was completely rude. When we were finally acknowledged, they basically pointed to the staircase leading upstairs and told us to try the dining room because we wouldn't get a bar seat for at least an hour. Okaaay. We were seated right away in the main dining room and service was slightly better, but the food was bland and uninteresting. I had French onion soup and it was really boring and under seasoned. Other people in my group were not satisfied either (lackluster chowder, wings were dry, etc).
The only upside is that they serve their draft beers in mason jars, which is a nice touch. They also offer free sodas, coffee, and tea for the designated drivers of the group (safety first!). Bottom line: if you're a local, you're golden. If not, drive the extra few minutes down the road to the Moat Mountain Brewery. They're much friendlier and the food is a thousand times better.
went here with the family while away not too long ago. the italian breadsticks (breadsticks with mozarella cheese inside!) were absolutely delicious. All of the meals were good, our only complaint would be they charge for EVERY soda refill (minus 1 star), so our family of 5 spent well over $30 on soda alone.. kind of ridiculous so beware... next time we'll just stick with water.
Review Source:Red Parka is one of my favorites in the area, been going there for many years. Â This time was exceptionally lackluster... Â Baby back ribs were not especially fresh an tender, seemed like they had been prepared days ago. Â That goes for my twice baked potato also - the potato in the skin was dry, crumbly, actually quite bad. Â The terriyaki steak was very good, even seemed better when served on the same plate as the ribs and potato! Â The steak was tender, cooked as per my request, and flavorful. Â Not very happy with this trip, although I'm sure I will give it another shot at some point in the future. Â I hope it is better because it has always been a great place to eat after a full day in NH.
Review Source:Food was decent, but waitress was demeaning and acted put out with every request. Â Was there with my parents and sister's family and after the waitress had done the worse job possible she handed us a bill with a dearly "gratuity is already included". Â Too bad it's hard to find good food in the glen area, but t our 3 families and our friends and relatives won't be back.
Review Source:The Red Parka Pub is always a great take. We love the salad bar which is always fresh and kept clean. You also get freshly made bread. The steaks are excellent - always cooked perfectly. They also have numerous seafood selections as well as a few chicken, pork, and vegetable options.
We are usually too full for dessert but have had the Extra Terrestrial before (A Reese's pieces ice cream sandwich) which was so yummy! They also often have pies and cobblers made with fresh local fruits.
The wait can be long at prime times (they do not take reservations) but it will be well worth the wait! We've never been disappointed here!
I was a bit wary of eating at The Red Parka Pub- it honestly looks like a dive when you get inside, but my father had been recommending the place to my boyfriend and me for years. We finally gave it a shot, and found it to be a hoot. The decor is great- all sorts of license plates with messages, beer served in a mason jar, and an eclectic assortment of locals to add to the local flavor.
The food was reasonably priced for the North Conway area. I honestly don't believe you can find any place that doesn't jack up the prices more than an urban area would. If you go to a tourist area, you have to expect tourist inflated prices. That's my theory- would love to be proven wrong on that! The fare on the menu was similar to most restaurants in the area- a lot of grilled food. We both enjoyed our meal, so no complaints there.
If you stay late enough, weekends they have a band playing. I imagine that is quite a crazy scene as the pub had a very packed feel to it and that was just for dining.
It was an interesting place to eat. Nothing earth shattering. No bar brawls broke out while we were there. The upstairs Steakhouse looked a lot classier, but I can imagine it had higher prices. You were allowed to go get your own bread and/or salad in that portion of the restaurant. Good bread too, which is always a plus in my book.
If you're looking for an early evening spot to have a meal, I think this is a good place to try. Any later and you may be in for some alcohol-fueled rowdiness!
This is a really fun ski bar, decorated with ski paraphernalia and with live music on weekends. Â It's the perfect place to hit after a day at Attitash or Wildcat (or I suppose after the outlets in North Conway). Â Lots of local skiers and people up for the weekend. Â The selection of local beers is good, and the steak is surprisingly excellent. Â It's a sirloin, not some crazy Morton's type thing. Â
The people are friendly and it's a low-key vibe. Â Gets crowded at the bar on busy weekends.
We went here after a day of skiing after driving around and seeing very few places open on a Monday night. Â The salad bar a pretty good - the homemade blue cheese dressing and chili bacon dressing were outstanding. Â Some of my lettuce was sandy, but it was fresh and not brown or full of the core. Â My burger was just okay, not as good as the menu led me to believe, the fries were generic. Â My friend's steak was sent back three times to be cooked properly and then it was delicious. Â The very nice waitress then knocked the $20+ entree off the bill. Â Plus three stars for her being cool. Â Monday night is open mike night at 9pm. Â Other people were eating nachos and enjoying them. Â We try to only support small places and the owner just got an award for community involvement, so that is good for another star. Â Maybe ribs or nachos another time.
Review Source:After a day hike to the top of Mt. Washington, my girlfriend and I were wiped out and starving. Â We went to the Red Parka on a recommendation from a guy I work with.
We loved it. Â We sat in the downstairs bar portion of the establishment. Â The towny vibe plus the ski-kitch on the walls was amazing. Â The prime rib was outstanding and hit the spot. Â I drained several local brews served in frosty mason jars, which sealed my belief that the Red Parka is one of the best places in New England. Â A live band came on and really took the night over the top.
Haven't been during the height of ski season, so I bet it would get pretty crowded. Â Bottom line, this place gets a strong and heartfelt recommendation from me.
Came here for dinner during "peak season" in the mountains. The wait for a table was an hour plus. We were seated next to the salad bar which really grossed me out, but all salad bars really gross me out, so I digress...
We were told to get our own bread (wtf?) from the sneeze bar - I mean salad bar - so naturally I passed on that after watching countless people drool and slobber all over that nasty shit. Â Trying to avoid swine flu, thanks.
Seafood stuffed shrooms were decent, but unmemorable, as was the rest of my experience here.
I ordered the cajun filet mignon tips with sauteed mushrooms and onions with fries from the specials menu and a pumpkin ale. The steak tips (there were only 4 or 5 of them) were cooked perfectly, and the quality of meat was superb, which one would expect from a filet. However, I could not detect any hint of cajun spice whatsoever, and the sauteed mushrooms and onions listed on the menu were noticeably missing from my plate, as well as the the plates of my boyfriend and sister who ordered the same thing. Also, there were only like 10 french fries, but they were pretty good fries I guess...
Good food overall, but a completely forgettable experience and not worth the wait. The only memorable part was the pumpkin ale.
Not knowing what to do for the night, we stopped in here. Â There was no cover to get in & the band that was playing got the patrons (some as young as 20 & some as old as 60) dancing. Â Beers here come in mason jars & run about $3-4. Â They have a decent selection on tap & are quick to serve you even on a busy night. Â There are license plates all over the walls, which makes for an interesting read while you enjoy your beer...though the reflection from them makes taking photos a bit difficult.
Review Source:Stopped here on a whim. Â
I got the full rack of ribs and salad bar, ribs were pretty good, salad bar was not bad either. typical salad bar, mac salad, potato salad, bread.
The gf had terraiki chicken and salad which she enjoyed. Â
Cool atmosphere, we sat in the part that was an old train car. Â Very good service as well (we were there early though, 4pm)
This restaurant is located deep in the White Mountain tourist trap, and the restaurant is good for tourists that like mediocre food.
We were all very excited about the salad bar, which was kinda silly. It was a very small salad bar (there wasn't even cheese, except Parmesan). But, it had one very good dressing: creamy bacon chili (I think).
I had the steak, which was fine. It was a good piece of meat and it was well cooked. It could have used salt. The baked potato was also fine, but I don't know many people that screw up a baked potato. Everything else was just fine, too. There wasn't anything that stuck out for me at this restaurant. The ambiance was pretty cool, with exposed beams and ski posters everywhere. But, otherwise, it was just alright, and too expensive for just alright.
Restaurant: blah, awesome for bland and uninventive stuff - i have to say my prime rib was pretty awful
Pub: very towny, but good service and awesome ski videos playing not to mention fresh local beers
I would like to check this spot out again sometime when I am not hungry and already have a buzz on.
