The Red Roost is a country restaurant and bar located along Route 22 at the south end of the Village of Cambridge, next door to Napa Auto Parts, serving lunch and dinner 6 days a week and an all you can eat brunch buffet on Sunday mornings. The atmosphere is casual with a full service dining room (rooster art on the walls) with table seating and overhanging stained glass lights and a separate lounge area.

The menu offerings at the Red Roost include hot & cold sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, salads, soups, chili, pasta dinners, steaks, chicken, seafood,  comfort foods, and more. Desserts include cheesecake from the Nuns of New Skete, apple crisp, and strawberry shortcake. Specials are offered here and the prices seem reasonable, burger & sandwich plates $4.95-$8.95, and most dinner entrees $10.95-$14.95.

I stopped in here for a Sunday night dinner very recently. The place was pretty quiet when I arrived for dinner around 7:15 PM. I could take a seat at any table. For dinner. I ordered the Open Faced Pot Roast Dinner ($10.95) served with potato and vegetable and added a Side Salad ($2.50) to my dinner. The side salad served on a glass plate was good, which had crisp romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onions, carrot, and crunchy croutons. The Pot Roast Dinner was served a big plate. The beef was very tender and soft topped with a brown beef gravy (very salty tasting!) over soft white bread. The twice baked potato was quite good, as was the steamed broccoli.

The service here was not as friendly as it could've been. The waitress did her basic job to take my order and serve my food in prompt order, but did not say much and did "drop & go" with the food and "pick-up & go" with the used dishes. The waitress did offer dessert after I requested a to go box to pack up half of my dinner. For dessert, I decided on the Strawberry Shortcake ($3.95), which had soft dense biscuits (not sweet) topped with light whipped cream and fresh strawberry slices and small bits. It was pretty decent.

The total dinner check came out to $18.62 with tax and before tip. I'd give this place a solid 3 stars.
