Stopped for something quick and light while passing through town. Â We had slices of pizza and out of curiosity, the fried Calamari appetizer. Â The menu is identical to any other Italian eatery you've ever been in with all of the usual favorites. Â The waitress was young and inexperienced, but had a bubbly personality. Â The quality of the food was outstanding. Â Make a point of trying their food; you won't be disappointed. Â If they added a fried Calamari dinner to the menu, It would become their signature meal.
We will be making plans for a return visit to the area because of this restaurant and guess where we will be eating.
I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of my experience at this charming little restaurant in the "off the beaten path" but lovely town of Cambridge, NY. As this is its first review posted on Yelp, I'll be a little more thorough.
Collectively, we had PEI Mussels, Veal, and a Shrimp and pasta dish with crab cakes, garlic bread, and salad for appetizers. We finished the meal sharing a chocolate mousse (they were, much to our regret, out of Tirimisu).
The bottom line: good food and price point, overly generous portions (the veal was an enormous plate and the shrimp dish was substantial). I had the PEI mussel appetizer as my entree, and paired with garlic bread and a salad, it was perfectly fulfilling.
The service was excellent - a five. They recently received a liquor license, and the wine and beer selection needs a desperate makeover. I was happy to see local wines (plus a Pinot) make the list, but when Sam Adams shines on a list of Bud, Coors, and Heineken, you have some work to do. Local craft beers would give this restaurant the classy edge it needs considering the location. Port offered as a digestif would also help.
Overall, we had a great experience. This restaurant could be a destination - even worth a drive from Albany - if the owner/s would consider adding those touches that make it truly unique as fine Italian restaurant. (Also, it would have been a huge bonus had Tirimisu been available.)
For the area, this is a four star experience and worth checking out. We made a reservation for a Saturday night, so calling beforehand on a weekend might be wise.
