NO MORE PULLED BBQ BEEF!!!! NOOOO!!! Big mistake, Red's....this was our favorite thing on the menu, and now its gone....replaced with BBQ Brisket slices, which were OK, but not nearly as good as their pulled beef. Â You lost a star from me. Â
We came here last night expecting the same, good old Red's that we knew a year ago last time we came to Klamath for a visit...seems like the atmosphere has changed a bit. Â Not as many customers, service was not very attentive, not horrible, just nothing spectacular. Â Their pulled pork is still the same, thank God, great flavor, and I love their sweet coleslaw, I think I could eat a bucket of that! Â However just an overall lackluster performance compared to what they were a year ago....*sigh*....bring back the pulled BBQ beef, Red's!!!!
We live in Klamath Falls and eat out regularly. We were in the area tonight (9-29-12) and decided to stop at Red's. We've eaten there a couple of time and it is nothing special (not much is in Klamath Falls).
The food was the usual and get's 2 stars. We had the 10oz Rib Eye and Pulled pork, pulled Chicken and Brisket. She had a class of water and white Zinfandel. I had Coffee w/cream. Like I said the food was the usual 2 stars, nothing special and the chicken was nasty. Cheapest wine money can buy, at least the coffee was good. Not being from Klamath Falls originally we know good restaurants and food, this wasn't even close to it. It never is but there is VERY limited eateries here.
Our problem was with our waitress (I believe her name is Mindy).
She took almost 20 minutes to take our order.
Never refilled the water, she only brought 1 to the table.
Never refilled, or offered, the coffee.
The wine came almost 10 minutes after the meal.
Never asked anything, acted most of the time like we weren't there.
The only reason we didn't walk out while waiting was the waitress covering the tables behind us. She took care of us every time she walked by. Refilled coffee, water and asked how we were doing every time she walked by. I wish we knew her name, she is the best waitress at Red's. She is the ONLY reason we gave the place 2 stars.
Our usual tip is 20-25% depending on good-excellent service. We left no tip since Mindy would have gotten it. If we would have had cash the other waitress would have gotten 25% right in front of Mindy to show her what good service get you. This is only the 3rd time in decades we've left no tip.
Think we'll start posting a lot more on Yelp. Hopefully if can save others some time, frustration and money.
Pretty good food. I'm a little irritated about their patio seating. My husband and I came here after church with out friends who has a baby. It was just starting to get nice outside, after being so cold for so long, so we wanted to sit on the patio for lunch. The hostess said no without offering an explanation. Â We thought she was kidding but asked her why and she said there were no one underage allowed in the patio because it is considered the bar. I was irritated because it was a Sunday afternoon, no one was in the patio or bar and the bar was inside. They really need to do something different about their patio seating because that does not work. I honeslty can go other places that are willing to accommodate us more.
Review Source:I finally broke down and gotta cellphone a few months ago, so I discovered Red's Backwoods BBQ in the Yellow Pages on the nightstand of my motel room. My buddy'd been on an extremely restrictive diet as therapy for a mysterious idiopathic protein malabsorption condition, but his advisors said it was time to add meat back to the list of foods that are okay to eat. I was so stoked because it'd been so long since we'd enjoyed burgers and meaty burritos and spaghetti 'n' meatballs and pepperoni pizza together. In our college daze, it had been a daily ritual, but for the last few years, all this guy had eaten were roots and tubers dug up from the ground and vegetables from beyond the mainstream. The only rule now was that he had to avoid processed foods, so we knew that we didn't wanna eat at some chain place.
If you've never heard of it, how would you ever know that Red's is a chain? Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Klamath Falls......How did Red figure K Falls as the next market to target for expansion?
It didn't really dawn on us that Red's was a chain until after he had finished his bowl of Brunswick stew. He was so fast and frenzied as he ate that the girly-girl wait staff gawked in disbelief that even in a town like Klamath Falls which doesn't dwell much on manners, someone could grub down like it was a speed-eating contest. He apparently delighted in every bite so much that I thought he was gonna lick the bowl clean. But then nature called, so he excused himself to find the restroom.
The short hallway to the johns passed an entryway into the kitchen, and a member of the kitchen staff was coming or going just as my buddy had left the latrine.
"I'd like to pay my compliments to the chef," my friend said.
The young fellow replied "Huh?" as if to say "What's a 'chef'?"
So, my buddy kindly repeated himself and added that he was very satisfied with the Brunswick stew.
"What do you guys put in it to make it taste so good?" he asked.
"I dunno", the kid said. "We just make it from this mix that comes in a big pack from Florida."
Just then, my friend's eyes bulged as big as saucers, and he was totally anxiety-stricken. Looking crushed, he wandered back to the table to tell me "I think I'm gonna die." Y'see...his doctor and his holistic guru had 'em so scared that he would die if he didn't eat everything made from scratch with all organic ingredients. Dude was sweating bullets over the thought of a ragout of high fructose corn syrup, maltodextrin, hydrogenated soybean oil, and "Liquid Smoke" breaching his rugae, leaching into his bloodstream.
Only then did the chainy-ness of Red's hit me like a ton of stacked stone veneer pieces! The fake cheeriness of the flair-bedazzled waitresses (when behind our backs, I know they were making fun of my friend)...the all-too-professional menus and multi-color cardstock-tent promos on the tables...and the very commercialized look of Red's Backwoods BBQ sauces at each table (and for sale at the cash register). Now it totally made sense why my tri-tip platter was so mediocre, and the side dishes were especially insipid. And surely my friend loved his stew so much only because his previous years of meat deprivation had lowered his bar for minimum quality down to mini-mart hot dog level.
How does this place survive in K Falls with the brilliant BBQ of Wubba's and Smokin' Joe's (and even the Creamery) now available?
I am in Klamath on Business and after a 12 hour travel day... this was the closest BBQ place to my hotel... so i went there. Â I was seated by the hostess and was not asked what i wanted to drink for at least 10 minutes. Â 15 minutes after that (without getting my drink nor asked what i wanted to eat) i finally got up and asked for the manager. Â The waitress tried to say that i had my headphones in my head so she thought i was on the phone... (what that has to do with getting my drink or food ordered.... i dunno.) The manager did give me 20% off my food that i took to go - which was A grilled chicken Pesto pasta (was okay) i went back to my hotel. Â
take yourself around the corner and down the street to Wubbas.... the service and food was excellent.
Finally I found a really good restaurant in K Falls for a nice dinner.
As I am from the Midwest originally, there is some serious BBQ back there. But I have had little success in finding a good place on the west coast.
Red's had a good selection of traditional BBQ, seafood, steaks, and other southern comfort food. I ordered the combo of beef filet and beef ribs. The meat was delicious and cooked just right. I also ordered southern greens and hush puppies (the best I've ever had). I can't believe I walked out full with less than $20 in damage.
They also have 6 different sauces you can use to supplement your meal. I liked the Memphis BBQ sauce (smokey and sweet) and the southern style mustard BBQ (great for chicken and pork).
Pretty good barbecue, and a variety of sauces to choose from, and portions are large. Â I wish there was a barbecue sauce that isn't sweet, Â but that's all folks seem to want these days. Â If you don't believe me, read the ingredients labels on sauces in the supermarket. Â I haven't found one that didn't list one kind or another of sugar or syrup, and most also have 2 or 3 other forms of sugar in the list. Â Red's has sauces ranging from sweet to spicy & not as sweet, which is about all you can find anywhere. Â Good stuff, though, and the pulled pork is really lean & tender.
Review Source:The service was great, but the food was maybe a step above mediocre. The side salad was made with iceberg lettuce, but the veggies with it were fresh. The corn bread tasted more like a piece of cake. It was way too sweet for corn bread. My stew was good though and the amount of meat was generous. This was my second time here. It seems they do some of their dishes very well, and some of them are just OK. I may try them again if I am in town and get their ribs which is supposed to be what they excel at. Their BBQ sauces are great!
Review Source:Im from the south so I'm particular about my BBQ. THis was the first meal I had in Klamath Falls and I thought it was pretty good. I would like to actually eat there for this time we got our food to go. I'll go back and check it out for sure. I have the beef brisket and It was pretty strong. Give it a go... (Wabbas is better)
Review Source:Was in town for a wedding when i ate here. This place has a southern theme. Had a cob salad and boyfriend had the pulled pork platter. Salad came with hush puppies (i am from ca i had no freaking clue what these things were). The salad did not taste very fresh. The platter  was kind of try and the sauce selection, although large, was not great. Did not offer regular BBQ sauce. However, they have a full bar and do have a special menu where you get an appetizer and 2 main dishes for $20.
Review Source:My first time at a BBQ place in the states so I was quite excited to see what all the fuss was about and it was recommended to us my the people at running Y ranch. Anyways decor is basic and service was just right, there were only two servers, and they were busy, but once our order was taken it was fine. A selection of different types if BBQ sauces I can't wait to try!
Ok pulled pork sandwich comes and I make strips of different flavored sauces and hands down Red's Hot wins followed by "Texas style" then Memphis! My side of Southern greens is like a vinegary cooked veg with bacon... Interesting. I liked my sandwich and the sauces. The pulled pork was tender and the bun was nicely toasted and warm and chewy on the inside, so carb watchers, take a day off! Food was good for the value, $5 special and its basic but good.
Driving through town, craving a good steak, looked up the local venues on my phone.... Hey, what's this, "Best Prime Rib in Oregon," they claim. Ok, sold, gotta try it!
Meh. The flavor was about like the presentation... Didn't look like it was going to be anything special... Au jus and horseradish came in little plastic containers with lids on them. Not that I really care about that, but first impression didn't look like "best" anything. I was still optimistic about the prime rib, until I tasted it. Ok, but nothing special.
Saying it was the best in the state got me in the door, so I guess their tagline worked. But only once, I won't be back. If an out-of-state traveler believed that line, they wouldn't go home with the best impression of OR steakhouses.
Girlfriend got mixed veggies with her meal. She said they were cooked like grandma used to do.... Boiled to death until mushy. Granny might approve, but that's sure not the way we like them.
I had high hopes, because frankly I've never had BBQ that I didn't like, but there's a first time for everything. We sampled all the sauces at the table before ordering, and not one of them tasted like BBQ. Most tasted like vinegar. We decided to stick to non-BBQ items to be safe, because it still seemed like a nice place even if the BBQ wasn't up to par. Bummer. Waited at least 30 minutes for our food after ordering, and there were only a handful of folks in the restaurant. My friends' meals were more or less fine, but I struck out. When my BLT sandwich arrived, the bacon was cold. She brought me a side salad with ranch instead of the ranch taters I had ordered. The waitress came by to give me a refill, unfortunately she added sweet tea to my diet soda. When the bill arrived, I was overcharged 2 bucks for my sandwich, which the waitress did immediately correct. Unfortunately, due to the slow/poor service and lack of tasty options, we'll need to pass on this restaurant in the future.
Review Source:The sides were a little soggy. The salad was wilted. I honestly did not expect the meats to be so dry. Food arrived cold. Sauce was poured onto boiled ribs. This is not bbq.
The worst thing about the place was the staff. I have heard in passing that they are weird. They women working out front were annoying. I had heard they bitch and moan. And they did. It was about customers that just left too. Made me wonder if they do this about  all customers. It made us want to leave.
It was embarrassing, we were there for a birthday and they ruined it.
Skip it and go to Wubba's drive thru.
Red's has a distinctive menu with a southern accent. The hush puppies were as good as those I've eaten in Charleston. The Petite Filet's were excellent - pink in the center and very tasty. The side salad was ample and they have a good draft beer selection. My friend had the ribs. The corn bread was excellent (for a change). In other restaurants I have often found it dry and without much flavor. The service was satisfactory and we both enjoyed our dining experience. We would definitely go back.
Review Source:My wife, my three young daughters and I just finished dinner about thirty minutes ago and I wanted to write a review. I had the all you can eat beef ribs dinner which was excellent. The kids had selections from the kiddie menu and they enjoyed their meals as well. Unfortunately, my wife ordered the Red's center cut sirloin steak because she just wanted a plain steak without any bells and whistles. It was single handily the worst steak she has ever had. She bent her fork just trying to cut a piece off of it to eat. She described the taste as "hard liver"! To top off her experience, our waitress (who was very sweet) proceeded to explain to my wife that she ordered the wrong cut of meat. Our waitress knew this because she worked at a steak place in Branson, MO for many years.
This information would have been useful BEFORE she ordered.
Based on this experience I can rate Red's as a three.
Good luck if you go there.
