Maywood doesn't have much to work with so when I found out about this little dive bar I was super excited. Got the chance to visit this place a couple of times this year, great place.
The bar is not very big but they do have several stools and a pool table. They also have a patio with plenty of tables, chairs and some heaters.
The bartenders are super mellow and very friendly. I love that they are attentive and actually bond with their customers. Even the people that come to this establishment are super friendly, they make you feel very welcome, which I'm sure anyone can appreciate, at least I know I do.
I'm not sure how strong their mix drinks are but from what I hear, they are pretty strong. I'm a beer type of gal and I enjoy that they have Stellas and Guinness, my two fav! Oh and their prices are very reasonable.
The Juke box has a great selection of music. The night can vary, it can go from Rap to R&B, Spanish Rock to some Classic Rock. I love all types of music so the fact that they play everything here is a huge plus.
If you live around the area or just passing by you should totally swing by. I'm sure it wont be the first or last time that you'll visit.
I been coming to this little dive bar with so much character laughter and down to earth people for the last year. Â This is a place you can come for a quick drink or for a night full of laughter, fun and great people. Â The bartenders are down to earth and not snobs. Â Everyone should come to this unique establishment at least once and they will see they would want to keep on coming back....
Review Source:Been coming to this bar for the good part of the last 4 years and I decided to finally review it here. This place is always my go-to bar when I just want to hang out and have some drinks.
The Redwood Room is a pretty small bar with the counter, some stools, and a pool table. There is also an outdoor patio in the back that is normally opened when they have parties here (with free food!) Â A lot of the people that come here are regulars but they are nice to you if you are to them. It's like a nice little family here.
The drinks are always reasonably priced and STRONG! They have a small selection of beer with most of the common ones (Bud, Corona, Coors, etc). My only complaint is they don't have craft beer here, (Newcastle is their strongest beer). But I don't mind since I mostly go with liquor here.
I love all the bartenders here, they always make you feel welcome and if you tip them well they will always take care of you. I have been friends for years with most of the current and past bartenders here, that's how amazing and friendly they all truly are.
There's a jukebox in here with an amazing selection of music. I love coming here with friends to drink and hangout all while listening to some awesome jams. Most of the people here put rap, hip hop, R&B, and similar music. I always put on rock and metal music here and no one seems to mind.
I HIGHLY recommend coming here if you love hanging out with people while having drinks. I can see myself still coming here when I'm 40. The Redwood is just that great!
We went for a B-day get together for my husbands' co worker. Â We were pleasantly surprised it was a really nice spot. Â Great music on the jukebox and Rosie the bartender was cool school. Â She went over the top to keep up with our group which basically took over the spot. Â She maintained her cool and was great. Â Ladies room was another pearl, super clean and nicely decorated. Â My hubby and I have no apprehensions of 're-visiting the Redwood room again!
Review Source:Best little dive bar in the area
Came here the other day after work with some co-workers. Â I work nights, so it's not that easy to find a bar open at 7am. Â Thankfully for yelp, our prayers were answered. Â ;)
The establishment is not very big inside, but there is a plenty of room for a pool table with stools. Â The back patio has plenty of table/chairs and Heaters, for you outdoorsy people. Â The staff are very friendly, and the owner is sweet as can be. Â Even the bars patrons are easy to talk to. Â Not once did I feel uncomfortable. Â In fact it was the opposite. Â We were treated and felt at home. Â Fresh popcorn was even brought out to us!! Â The drinks are stiff and well priced. Â Which is great!!! Â $4 beers, $6 mixed drinks, and the juke box was playing good music. Â Which can be heard throughout the establishment. Â For all the LADIES, the women's restroom is CLEAN!!!! Â Not what you would expect from a dive bar, but a welcoming surprise.
If you like going to dive bars, Redwood Room should be at top of your list  :)
There's no denying it.
I have a problem.
I needed a drink... And was by myself... So why not have a drink alone? :))
I didn't want to drive to downtown LA, i wanted to stay local.
I pulled up my yelp and all the reviews i read, directed me to this bar.
I parked... walked to the liquor store next door and got myself a bag of spicy peanut mix. Walked into the bar... ordered a beer... it was $4 dollars (SCORE!!!!!)
The bartender was not trying to kiss ass for a tip, or being fake at all. She was actually yelling at a 'regular' for making a bet on something stupid. This is what you call a neighborhood bar. I LOVED IT.
I wanna come here every day and just drink and watch TV.
Fun. Fun. Fun.
This place def has character.
I normally don't visit Maywood (and do you blame me? ha!...I kid, I kid) but if it has more places to offer that are like Redwood, consider me a resident.
A friend was celebrating his b-day here and when I walked in I was a little dismayed 'cuz it seemed so small. However, upon further inspection, there was a big back patio (that can be rented out, apparently) where all my friends were drinking, listening to music, and having a good time.
This place is a true hole-in-the-wall bar -- don't expect fancy decor, hipster attitudes, or bells-and-whistles. What you get are good drinks (and on the cheap), a kick ass bartender (although I forgot her name), and a chill spot to celebrate your friends birthday. And the jukebox was playing the jams so that's always a plus.
Only down side? Cash only! This isn't a big deal for some, but for Mr. I-Never-Carry-Cold-Hard-Cash, it was a little annoying.....but I got over it after my first drink.
Came here for a friend's birthday, had the patio reserved, jukebox was playing all the jams, dranks are cheap (think $4 for a beer & $6 for a mixed drink), parking available between bar & gas station, and the bar ain't packed. All in all, it was good times. This place is THE epitome of a dive bar, fyi.
P.S. It's a CASH ONLY bar!!!! But there's an ATM on site in case you forget.
Don't ask how I ended up drinking here, but I did and I'll never regret it. Â Drinks were cheap, other drinkers were friendly, and when the bartender overheard my friend describing his pathetic dating attempts, she leaned in and said, "Around here, we call people like you a dumbass."
Dreamy.
I needed a drink. Â Naturally I looked to yelp to help me find that place that would fulfill my drinking needs and once again yelp did not let me down.
The Redwood Room was, as everyone on here has stated, chill with some cool, diverse, peeps. Â It was small but I never felt claustrophobic. Â The drinks were stiff and cheap, just like I like 'em. Â It did seem like everyone knew each other but my fiance and I never felt out of place. Â Very friendly peeps. Â They also had a pool table and a back area for parties. Â There was a birthday party going on back there last night.
There was also a juke box. Â That sucker took all my money. Â I spent more money on the juke box than on my drinks. Â So many bomb jams that I just couldn't help myself. Â I had that place poppin'.
I can't wait to go back.
What could i say this bar was home when i was 20.
I lived walking distance so that was always great. I worked nights with a crew and found that this bar opens at 6am so it became the Saturday morning chill spot. As time went on we came to know the owners, great people. Our morning bartender, who has sadly passed away, would call us Friday night and ask, (in an old lady voice) " Are you babies coming in tomorrow?" To our surprise we would come into a simple scrambled egg with small side breakfast. This isnt a bar with a kitchen so she would go out of her way to make us feel welcomed. With 6 young men there she never had to stock her bar.
Over the past ten years this has turned into the last call bar. No matter where I party I still manage to make my way back for the last beer of the night, as much as I can. Its still a great place to hang and watch a game or show in the early morning and hang with the owner and old timers and just chill.
During the World Cup bar may open at 6 for the game but it was great to sit at a bar with people that have been doing it for years.
FYI after hours park in the gas station parking lot near the brick wall.
Cool chill place, mellow cool crowd... the bartenders rock! after a few times you become family and know everyone on first name basis.
the drinks are great, you get your moneys worth. everyone is really friendly too. good vibes all around.
Love this little Dive!
PS - in the evening you can park at the gas station near the wall so you dont affect the gas station business next door.
for starters...VERY chill place...
first time i came here was great...bartender was friendly...
tv's are at a good angle so rarely any neck pain...
one of the many good places to come hangout after work...
everyone else in there was pretty friendly too...good conversations...good vibes...
the redwoods been yelped?!?!
wow. Â for those that dont know... Its a local bar. Â a dive. Â but mostly a neighborhood bar. Â
a good spot to have a drink and catch a game. Â good priced drinks. Â friendly tenders. Â its chill.
you get to mix with the locals. Â young brown cats and old white men (whow sometimes have a slight racist lean). Â but its ok, we all need old timers to remind us of how times have changed.
amidst these changes, the redwood has stayed the same. its rolled with the punches and im glad its been satisfying my thirst for years.
oh, ya the music (jukebox) is dope.
There is not much more to say about this place than:
Wow.
My man's coworker bartends at the Redwood Room at night, and she invited us to stop by last night. As we exited the freeway and were driving through the city streets I was struck at how this part if city is so NOT L.A. If you know what I mean. It's just a city. With people, and businesses, and normalcy. No barely twenty year olds dressed in high heels and street walker dresses (I can say that myself because I did my fair share of sluttin' it up in Hollywood when I was barely 20). No valet parking. No traffic. That's right, I said it. Just a normal place, with normal people.
We located the little dive bar (what else could it be with a '1/2' in it's address), found some illegal parking and walked into a time warp. This place is basically the size of a large living room, with a bar running down half the length of it, and one lone pool table at the end of the room.
This building has been around since the 20's and I'm pretty sure the bar is just as old. It is carved, and worn and beautiful. So much character. Just walking in you have to wonder how many buns have warmed those bar stools on a cool California evening. The cash register - I don't even think it plugs in. It's the kind that dings when you open the drawer, and you have to punch the numbers in and the display flips through actual number cards to show the total. And all the beer was $2.75.
When we arrived, our friend introduced us to literally almost EVERYONE in the bar. They are all regulars, and friends, and very chill. I think they all know each other, or at least they all know the bartender. It was evident that people come here to seriously relax, and just hang out. Don't bother trying to impress anyone, cause no one cares.
The jukebox was the main source of entertainment. So we threw some cash in to play along with all the regulars. It is one of those newer ones, with the ability to search for songs online, but she said up until very recently they had one of the old school ones with actual records.
There is not much to the Redwood Room, and you shouldn't expect much if you go to check it out. But you can be guaranteed the opportunity to relax and let your mind rest for at least a few minutes - that in and of itself is priceless.
