This place is "okay". I think the initial goal was to become a "URI home bar", but I definitely think it serves a better purpose of being a place for families and their kids. Which is great, because South County definitely needed something like that. That being said, the food just is not that good. I've had a few of the sandwiches, and I really felt like I was eating the food from one of the national chains/cafeteria food. I also do not recommend the buffalo chicken wings. They're just not as good as they are at some other local places. I think they also have a minimum on how many wings you can get-- most other places allow you to get as little as you want. I'd say it's definitely good on a rainy afternoon if you just want to get a sandwich and a beer, but definitely is not my cup of tea.
Review Source:Came in for dinner last night and was surprised about service. Immediately was greeted by a hostess, great job to her. We proceeded to the bar area where we weren't greeted after a few minutes. After the bartender decided to stop his conversation with one of his friends to acknowledge us, we then was presented menus.
We rambled threw the menu (pretty much just a bar/pub menu) nothing really jumped out at us. I went to one of my safe choices and got the fish and chips. Good batter and was exactly what I expected. Also ordered a app and salad. All items came at once and seem to pile on top of each other at the bar. Bartender was sorry that everything came at once and manager also expressed her concern. Timing was the only issue that I could see here, with being a slow time at night, something like this should not happen. More communication between front and back should fix the small issue we had.
I came here for lunch a couple days ago for a bacon cheddar burger and coleslaw. The food was very good. Â Now you will normally never find me at a sports bar but a woman at a local shop recommended it to me and she was not wrong. This was early afternoon on a weekday so I do not know how it differs from the late night scene. My waitress was super nice and let me sample 2 beers when I was asking her the difference between them. I really liked my shock top belgian white ale. The decor in here is actually really nice for a sports bar. I dig the silver theme. They also have pool in a room off to the side. Overall this was a good visit
Review Source:I was very pleased with my experience at Rhody Joe's and their legendary sports bar food. We were showing solidarity as one of our good friends works there, and we fancied Caesar wraps. We went for lunch after spending hours on the beach for some beer and good food. We ordered some giant mugs of beer (they have a decent quality draft beer selection) and ordered some delicious food. I ordered the chicken Caesar wrap, made out of a garlic and herb seasoned tortilla stuffed with grilled chicken, romaine lettuce, and Caesar dressing. It was a delicious meal at a great price, around $9. It was served with fries and a pickle. I had a great experience here. There is a diverse group of people that go here and I think that plays into the attractiveness of the bar. Everyone's welcome!
Review Source:Sports Bar Cuisine. Â It's taken a little time for them to perfect it, but they've pretty much done that now. Â Had beer, app, special, and dessert & coffee for under $50. Â A little loud, but it's a sport's bar. Â The wait staff has always been very friendly and helpful. Â The short rib special should have been called pot roast, but it was delicious comfort food. Â The beer selection is very good. Â Always full of people, but never overwhelmed. Â I'd recommend it. Â The blueberry bread pudding was simply delish!
Review Source:I went back to Rhody Joe's yesterday for lunch, again with my brother. He had Fish and Chips, which is one of his favorite meals. He was very happy with his meal. I ordered a large garden salad with grilled chicken, raspberry vinaigrette dressing and coffee. The salad was excellent. The coffee was good. I asked for a spoon which arrived nearly 10 minutes later. The service once again was "meh" at best. There was no check back once the food was delivered. We asked for ketchup because the bottle on the table was empty. This took several minutes too. My brother got up in the meantime to try a different table's bottle, but it too, was next to empty. I joked with him that the silver lining to this experience was that we now know they don't "marry" the ketchup bottles. :) Â When I asked for a warmer on coffee, she took my cup and was gone again several minutes before returning with it. Anytime we wanted something, we had to flag down the server. It wasn't busy. There was only one other table eating in the restaurant. I may go back only because the food isn't bad and haven't been disappointed with the food in both visits.
Review Source:A horrible experience only made worse by managements attitude of uncaring .A restaurant is only as good as their leaders and this place seems to not care about customers or making things right, went their for dinner with friends had an awfull time and when i got my credit card bill they charged my card twice and when i went back to tell them of the problem the manager said sorry nothing we can do.I went to their facebook page to post about my bad experience and they deleted it twice so they have a we don't care attitude and try to hide the problems save your money and eat elsewhere
Review Source:Our server had a black hoodie on. She came across as she could careless about her job or us. She never once said, "thank you". The food was not good, we ordered sliders, roast beef sandwich, ceasar salad, & pulled pork BBQ nachos. The salad was drenched in dressing. I had to send it back. The nachos were the best thing by far because the nacho chips were crispy. The roast beef was very tough & stringy. The sliders were OK. The check was $50 + 2 sodas. We left very unhappy. We will not be returning.
Review Source:Went for the first time today. Good vibe. Like the brushed stainless bar top. Great beer selection (courtesy of Joe) and the menu has a nice mix. I got the Gansett fish sandwich. Fried fish with rueben toppings, delicious! Â They had a cool car show out there today too. Would definitely go more often if it were closer.
Review Source:Nothing about this place was redeeming, but friends and I tried one more time and this is what happened.
It was Trivia Night, which we were not seriously playing, but enjoying. A lady came in, very clearly intoxicated and sat at the bar. To our shock, she was served. She obnoxiously began having one sided conversations with everyone that caught her eye. She insulted people, grew very loud, and fell off her chair a few times. The bartender continued to serve her. Eventually, she decided to leave and mentioned driving a car. When the bartender did nothing, we intervened and got her a glass of water and convinced her to stay. When the bartender noticed this, she immediately came over and started loudly saying she wouldn't let anyone intoxicated leave. After about ten minutes, however, she stopped paying attention. The woman took this moment to leave the bar and get in her car. That's when I went outside and called the police. The bartender ran out and convinced the woman out of her car and took her inside. When the police arrived, I met them outside and explained the situation. As soon as I walked in the bar with him, the manager all but jumped on him to explain how the restaurant was doing everything they possibly could to not let her leave, and there was no way this was their fault. The bartender started yelling loudly "WHO CALLED THE F*CKING POLICE!" It was obvious it was me, and we were aggressively treated while we finished our drinks, paid our tab, and left as soon as possible.
Also that evening, before the drunk lady arrived, we watched a woman pour an entire drink over a man's head at the bar, swear at him loudly (families were in the dining room) and storm out. He followed her, also yelling.
So, you can go I guess, but your car might be hit by drunk customers, you may be treated horribly by the staff and I don't mean just ignored, and you may get insulted several times by people you don't know.
Took my 2 yr old daughter to lunch here today - first timers. Â Hostess was cordial and we were seated right away. Â Took about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged we were there - not great with a 2 yr old but I can deal with it. Â I ordered for my daughter a bowl of ziti w butter from the kids menu. Â Asked for her food to come out as soon as it was ready. Â 7-8 minutes later, my food shows up with an apology the the kitchen didn't see the request for the past first. Â Hmmm? Â Okay, 2 minutes later the pasta came out. Â I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Â It came out very soupy and when I took the first bite, I realized that the whole thing was lukewarm. Â Lukewarm pork is not very appetizing. Â The fries were pretty much room temp. Â The place was pretty deserted - around 1:00 pm. Â I tried to eat half the sandwich but really was turned off to it. Â The waitress noticed and sent the manager over. Â He was cordial and agreed to take the sandwich off my bill - still charged me for the $2.50 - 12 oz soda!! Â Really? Â Anyway - to top it off, about 4 hours later I started feeling very ill in my stomach. Â I have vomited 4 times and have very bad diarrhea. Â Lukewarm pork huh? Â Well, until I got sick, I wasn't all that upset about it - but now I can just imagne how long that pork had been sitting at that temp. Â Never again!
Review Source:First time here and had the roast beef sandwich. It was pretty good, definitely looking forward to trying the ribeye and the burger next time. The environment is very nice with a family-Iike atmosphere. definitely a good place to go if you're looking to munch on some good affordable food.
Review Source:Tried to have dinner there, greeted by nice hostess but please teach your door staff to know what is going on, I hate the vague "well it may be about 35 minutes, blah blah blah about large parties etc. Â Decided to wait, went to the bar to get a drink, I was looking at the beer on tap, the female bartender screams we don't have any tap beers, Â who said I wanted one anyway. So she just walks away, doesnt offer a bottle selection a drink,, just walks away. Â The woman at the bar chime in you must be so sick of saying that, right, such a chore to speak the english language. To avoid having to listen the bimbos at the bar and to get someones attention I walked down the end of the bar.
The same bartender turns around and looks at me and gives me the the
non verbal jerking of the head greeting, I gave it to her back, she then speaks how can I help you, you can't now. Honey you work at Rhody Joes, how dare you act like you are something, get a grip. We left right after this.
Can't beat their prime rib specials on Fridays and Saturdays, or the 25 cent wings during a game! Â
Didn't have any of the issues that previous posters described (plastic cups, problems with waitstaff, though I will admit there was some cursing at the bar but hey, everyone was there to watch Game 7 of Bruins-Lightning so that was to be expected!). But perhaps that was due to the fact that we go here during the summer months, when the URI students are not in residence and there is a different vibe.
Flat screens every place, attentive service, decent food at a decent price. Â Great place to watch a game!
Not a bad place to watch the game. However, the over the top corny decor and ridiculous drink policies (because I was eating dinner after 9 pm on a monday night, my beer was served in a plastic cup...I'm a 30 something professional eating a salad. Don't treat me like a rowdy steakhead 21 year old) left a bad taste.
The food is pretty much Chelos, with all that it implies both good and bad.
Not terrible, but  I wish Chelo's just renovated the bar area and left well enough alone. But yeah, with all the TVs in the bar and good sight lines, it's better place to watch the game than the Mews.
Wakefield - synonymous with electric guitars and surfboards? Reminds me the Simpsons episode where Moe's bar becomes Moe's Family Feedbag...
As sports bars goes this place is very, very good.
Located in what used to be Chelo's Wakefield with one of the Chelo's owners they decided to take a different route and cater to the younger crowd. Since it is located close to URI it was a good call.
Flat screen televisions abound. Sitting at the bar last night I had the NFL Network directly in front of me; the Celtics to teh left, then the Bruins, then a pre-Heisman award show. Behind me and to the sides more of the same. Everywhere I turned I saw New England sports. Damn. Sports. Nirvana. And booze. And a very nice bartender. Kristen was lovely.
$2.99 Maragaritas seemed quite popular with the college crowd that began to filter in around 9:00 or so. As were the $2.00 25 ounce drafts of Keystone (yuck), Narragansett and Natty Light.
I had meatloaf. Yes, meatloaf. Hey, whatever, I like it. And it was really, really good. I was happily surprised. It came with two sides and I opted for a salad (which was rather large) and the soup of the day (a red pepper soup resempling chili but not quite a sthick - also very tasty). The meatloaf also came with a small loaf (itty bitty loaf) of cornbread with a honey butter. DAMN! And all for $9.99. Hello? Welcome to awesome.
Decent crowd, good food, reasonable prices, rocking portions, really pleasant employees - they seem to have the right recipe for success.
Oh yeah $0.25 wings during NFL games plus a boatload of beer specials. How can you go wrong? If you are a sports fan you can't.
Iv'e been to many sports bars. Most of them are big spenders at restraunt depot, and everything "made to order" means thawed and microwaved.
Not with these guys. The food was fresh and very well made, and o-so-flavorful and came out in a timely mannor. Dessert was unbelievable, and the staff makes it to order...no frozen crap. Waiter even had kitchen staff change it up a bit for me.
If you get a chance read the story of "Rhody- Joe" off the menu cover, it's very funny and light at heart.
Service was great, atmosphere was fun, there are a lot of personal touches to the restraunt, you just have too look around.
2 people 3 course meal for under 50,w/ Â no alcohol.
ok, went  there with 3 other girls to grab some drinks and snacks.  I was trying to boycott this place and got out - voted of where to go.  I was told that they have huge draft beers in chilled mugs....more on that later.... Â
We entered, and were then charged $5 cover charge each, supposedly for a fundraiser??? Â Then saw others come in that were not charged that "cover charge". Â weird, felt like we were scammed by the 2 not so nice bouncers at the door. Â So, we sat at a table, the bar was pretty full. Â
A waitress came right over and took our drink order. Â 2 beers, 2 margaritas. Â She came back and they were in PLASTIC cups! Â Obviously we were not big enough girls to be trusted with real glasses. Â Most everyone had plastic cups, so may be the dishwasher was broken? Â Or the bartender just plain lazy??? Â That was a bit disappointing :( Â
We did order off of the $4 appetizer menu, we got queso cheese sticks, onion rings, buffalo wings, and BBQ pork sliders. Â
I will go back just for the queso cheese sticks! Â I can't even describe what it is they are coated in but pure yummy-ness would be the closest I can come! Â Served in a dish with salsa and sour cream, YUM!!!!
Onion rings were ok, Â but def. not hand made, not too greasy.
BBQ Slider, normally served with cole slaw on them, our waitress told us that we can get it on the side, so we did.
The wings, ehhh, I have sooooooooo had better! Â Skin was chewy, not crispy and meat seemed over done. Â Sauce was ok, we had to ask for more celery and blue cheese because there was only like 1 celery stick on the plate.
We did get a few drinks, waitress was very attentive. Â I do have to add this bit of nastiness, Myself and 1 of the other girls went to use the ladies room, and it REEKED of cat pee! Â Either they never clean the bathrooms, or they let cats sleep in there on the regular. Â The trash barrel in the bathroom was over flowing with paper towel (like you wouldn't be able to get 1 more in if your life depended on it!) so I am thinking the bathrooms just don't get cleaned. Â I am sure the men's room was worse.
Rhody Joe's will probably never get my business again. Â Just because the Cheese sticks were fabulous doesn't mean I Â will be going back anytime soon. Â Its too bad because I drive by this place about 4 times a day.
We went to grab some dinner last night at Rhody Joe's. The place is nicely done, with lots of big tv's everywhere and a large bar. Definitely a sports-bar vibe, which is fine. They did a nice job designing the place - aluminum table tops, nice lighting, sort of modern high tech industrial meets man-cave. There were a lot of waitstaff bustling around, cleaning glass panels that separate the dining area from the kitchens, serving, taking orders and such, so I really don't know what Bill J. was unhappy for. I had no problem with the staff.
The food was spectacularly average, though. I got a burger ( I get burgers alot, it would seem) which is sort of my baseline test for most restaurants like this. My wife shared a huge nacho platter with one of our kids, and my teen kid got fish and chips.
It took about twenty minutes for our food to arrive, which is fine. The nachos were loaded with chili, cheese, jalapenos, salsa, and sour cream. They looked OK, and they seemed to like them. I didn't try any though. I did try a bite of the fish and chips, which are the battered type that I prefer. It was fair at best. Sort of disappointing that you can't get better fish and chips than this in such a seafood rich area. Oh well.
My burger was decent. They use fresh, never frozen (they claim) beef. It was sort of on the thin side, and came on a toasted bun with pickle slices and I got the onion rings. The o-rings were too greasy, and definitely NOT house-made as the waiter told me. They were frozen, so that kind of let me down after I specifically asked and the kid told me they make them fresh. Maybe he really didn't know. Whatever.
The burger was cooked a little too much, not medium like I wanted, but it was acceptable. The beef may be fresh, but after the o-rings, I'm not so sure. It was dry, with little real flavor that a good burger should have. I've had much better.
They have some decent beers, and I enjoyed my large mug more than any of the food. This is pretty average food, served in a cool atmosphere. It would probably be a fun place to watch a game with friends and have a few beers, but I wouldn't come here just to eat.
Prices are pretty good. I didn't think anything was out of line, but they do need to improve the quality of the food.
This place serves excellent food at a good price. We've been once for lunch and once for dinner (just us two). The food is what you'd find at Applebee's or Friday's for the most part, but they do chowder and seafood as well. This place definitely goes for the local feel and pulls it off far better than most of the chain restaurants. Their burgers are huge, and their sandwiches are very good. This is a new restaurant in an old space, but I totally recommend it - a local eatery serving good, American food for cheap!
Oh: parking is plentiful and the service is attentive. Lots of TVs to occupy yourself, too, for when you don't want to interact with your dining guests. :)
Went for the first time recently as a group of four, as in two couples. Â We went for diner, so the most important part of the night was the food. Â Four entrees, one appetizer to share, 1-2 beers each, and our bill was $80. Â An entree of about $10 came with a host of side options, including a generous salad and baked potato, for instance. Â By and large, we were all happy with our meals. Â In fact, the grilled meatloaf was very good. Â Better than average selection of draught and bottled beers. Â Did not get to try the prime rib as they were temporarily out. Â We had all heard a few things about the place before we went, including such things as it is not appropriate for children, or that it is some kind of Hooters-type place. Â I am not sure what that is all about, but here is what I saw: mostly young, female staff, dressed in jeans and tees, with a tendency for some to show some cleavage. Â Take that as you will, or even better, do as we did - go find out and decide for yourselves. Â In the end, we ate and drank well and were well taken care of at a very competitive price.
