We stopped here after a great dinner at The Maple Tree Inn.  This place was awesome.  The bartenders know there stuff.  I told them what I was looking for and they gave me a brew that was terrific.  I had the Oskar Blues Mama's Little Yellow Pils.  I wish we could have stayed longer.  I thought the prices were in line with other brew houses.    I felt like a 20 something hipster at The Rock Island Public House.  Then I looked at my watch and realized it was 10 pm and we had to be headed home to take care of the babysitter.  Back to the reality of a 45 year old married father of 3.

This place is absolutely amazing. The inside is gorgeous from the beautifully designed bar to the original brick walls and wood floors to the ceiling and cool nik naks.  Looks like stuff that would be picked up on an episode of American pickers.  Awesome selection of craft beers and the owners are truly wonderful and genuine people.  You need to come!!! Oh by the way the juke box is the cats meow

Worth the trek from the city! I'd say the coolest part about this bar is the feeling that you are welcome. Fantastic beer list that is ever evolving. The jukebox is as evolving as the beer list too! Good hang out, good folks!

I must admit I was a bit skeptical because of the businesses that have tried ( & failed ) to survive here in the past. The Hubs stopped in one night with one of his friends and told me it was worth a shot. When we walked in I was immediately relieved. The place had an open floor plan and it was very clean! You could tell (& smell) some major renovation took place in there. Brand new wood floors added an amazingly clean feeling in the place.

Plenty of beer on tap for you to choose from along with some interesting whiskey. Friendly, informative staff on hand adds to the coolness. My favorite part? Well, other than the beer of course, there were pictures (which of course I uploaded )  in the women's bathroom that cracked me up & made my whole night. Priceless!

So. If you are in the neighborhood, give it a shot.

First visit left us wanting more. Sampled a few crafts on tap, pretty impressive. Too bad some solid kegs had run dry, was looking forward to a few libations on their menu. Dim lighting, punk rock music, an eclectic feel with patrons who enjoy quality craft beer. We will certainly be back to this fan favorite...

Had the pleasure to accompany a friend of ours to the soft opening and was SO impressed!  I LOVE the renovation, beer list, wonderful owners, proximity to the Maple Tree Inn, and the BYOF policy.  I can't wait to make this place a regular and essential stop after dinner at Maple.  Hell, I'd even make the trip here alone just because this place is so great.  Simple decor with wonderful dim lighting.  Hip, but not in a cheesy hipster way.  These people love beer, love music, and clearly have the same adoration for Blue Island that I do.  I have nothing but high hopes for this place.  Stop in and support local businesses and Blue Island!

A co-worker and I had a meeting in the area and happend upon this place and we both would highly recommend this bar to others.  Great vibe and a large selection of craft beers on tap and the owner is very friendly and knows a lot about what he is serving.  Had nice conversations with a couple of the locals in the bar who were very nice also.  This place definitely exceeded our expecations.
We live in the western burbs but will be back some time when in the area again.

Simply put, this is the best bar in Blue Island. First, the decor. It is a large space, perfectly lit for a bar, and all of the pictures, posters and plaques tie in with old western ave. it is supremely classy without putting a single toe into pretention.

Now the booze. Life is too short to drink crap beer. Dave and Jen have gone out of their way to curate the best of th craft brews. They have made getting a great beer easy as pie. It's fantastic! And their liquor section ain't bad either! Hendricks? Templeton? Hell yeah!

And most importantly, lets talk about the staff: welcoming, knowledgable, friendly, fantastic! Even their door man is a classy young man. Jen and Dave are the best hosts on the south side.

Im sold on this place, and I'll be doing what I can for at least a monthly beer tasting

I'm very proud to be able to recommend the Rock Island Public House to as many people who will listen.  I don't think craft beer is a fad... Drink Better is their motto here and I think they've hit a vein with their visitors.
The bartenders are knowledgeable and helpful and will take the time to offer a few samples even on a really busy night.  As a proud Blue Islander, I'm grateful to have a business show off a little of our town's history in way of blown up posters of turn of the century Blue Island postcards.
I hope people stop by after a night at neighboring restaurants (Mario's or Maple Tree Inn) or our shopping district.  It's a gem.

Wow....Seriously! This bar exceeds my expectations. Once you set foot in this place you'll know why...
The bar is gorgeous!! Exposed brick and ceiling beams, historical art work, an outstanding juke box,  delicious wine and local booze, and the beer on tap is excellent. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. There's a warm comfortable feel, plenty of seating, purse hooks on the bar... I can go on and on.
I'm thrilled to have such a gem of an establishment in Blue Island.
There is a parking lot and a beer garden too.
Definitely good times to be had here!
    Cheers.

Kick ass bar. They have a knowledgable staff that can talk you through your beer choice without the condescending attitude. Beer snobs can revel in small production brews. Vintage vibe fits the neighborhood (my personal favorite accessory in the place is Justin Beaver). The jukebox is eclectic but suits the vibe of the place. I don't travel out of city limits for bars very often, but this will be my new spot on the southside.

These folks are clearly passionate about what they do. The beer selection is excellent, they did a great job sprucing the place up and I felt very welcome there. I look forward to going back... which I intend to do soon and often.

The place just opened but my hubby and I are already fans.  A fun vintage feel enhances the enjoyment of a truly spectacular spread of craft beers.  Tuesday night the offerings ranged from a Belgian sour to saison, ambers and IPAs,  to an 'English old' style of beer.

Best yet, a rocking good (and weird) mix of music on the jukebox opens the opportunity for many interesting conversations.  Motörhead, Louis Sullivan, Warren Zevon, Devo, Regina Spektor, Reagan Youth and Blondie are but a few of the representative offerings.

Nothing else like it on the South Side.
