LOVE Rogue beer.  Was horribly disappointed that the beer served was room temperature.  Ordered pizza which was as good as frozen pizza bought at the grocery store.  However, that wasn't the worst.  When my wife could not decide on a drink, the waiter actually told her to hurry up.  THEN, while waiting for our food with empty glasses on our table, I sat and watched our pizza sit under heat lamp for a good 10 minutes before we could finally get out waiter's attention to get him to go get it.

Go to the store to get your Rogue and save the bad service, bad food and bad example of their very fine beer.  And if you are in Astoria, you are WAY better to go to Fort George.

The beer is great, nothing better than a Dead Guy.  The atmosphere is wonderful.  The food is an embarrassment and way over priced.  Go for the beer forget the food.

Cool building. Beers have lost a lot of what the they started out with. Please get the body and up front flavor you used to have. Just okay now not bad. Also kinda spendy.

I really really wanted to like this place.  It gets 5 stars for location on the pier, it's a great building.  It gets 5 stars for the staff - every person we encountered was cheerful.  But I can only give this place 2 stars on the review because of the food - so bland, it was awful.

We picked simple things: hot dog, salmon sandwich, side order of tater tots.  Everything tasted the same, like nothing.

I'd only come back to this place for the beer.

We've been here half a dozen times and yesterday afternoon my husband son and I had lunch. The free beer sample is awesome, the view of the water is beautiful and the building is historic which makes it all that much better. Lets talk food. I ordered the 10.95 spinich chevre salad with a warm bacon vingerette. There was NO bacon anywhere on that plate. No flavor of bacon. the dressing was room temp. Halfway through my salad when the waitress came by I mentioned it and she said she would take it off the bill and have them" re-make the dressings". My son watched her go to the kitchen and tell the cook....  shook his head and I saw him say "there was bacon all over that salad"   for 10.95 there should be some. The chevre was not "rolled in almonds" it was scooped out of a container. The bread it was served with from the day before? A  who cares quality. My husbands "pressed" ham sandwich was toasted and the cheese wasn't melted
The waitress was nice. There was one other table with customers , maybe that was a sign?? When we got the bill the salad was still on at 10.95. We paid and left a 20%tip.  Leave Rouge House to the tourists.

Day trip to Astoria ended badly when we stopped at Rogue Brewery.

Very neat approach, driving out onto an old pier has definite cool factor, but from that point on it got very un-cool. We walked in - no greeting - so I asked the bar tender if we should just seat ourselves. He said 'yep, wherever you want' so my wife and I sat outside for a nice view of the river & town.  We sat for about 10 mins without seeing any waitstaff, then, when one finally showed, they just grabbed some drink orders from the larger table, looked at us, then walked back inside.  We thought she would be returning, but another 5-10 mins went by and still no interaction what so ever.  At this point, after looking over the menu for 20 mins and not finding anything that grabbed our taste buds, we decided the cool-factor of being on a pier was not enough so we left.  As we walked out, no one even looked in our direction.

Definitely a crappy way to end a good day trip...

We had decided to go on a spontaneous road trip to learn more about our new home state of Oregon (we're originally from California - big surprise) and headed towards Astoria without doing any previous research or anything - just pointed on the map on our phones and said - we're going THERE today.  It was past 2pm when we arrived, needed to give the pups a quick outdoor break because we were starving, and finally REALLY looked that the sign off the road pointed us to Rogue -  a happy surprise!  The beers were thirst quenching and the food was delicious.  The root beer float was really good too!.  But... then again we were super starving, so I'm not sure if it was the hunger talking or the food and drinks were really that good.  We plan to return with a not-so-angry appetite so we can give Rogue a fair and realistic review for the average patron.

Outstanding outstanding outstanding. Great beer, service, and food. Tried chocolate porter and cafe frog brews. Both were wonderful   Dinner salad , mac and cheese and steamer clams were to die for. Service was absolutely outstanding. They really went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. We will definitely be back. I have been to the rogue pubs both at Newport and Portland. This is by far the best.

-cool location, friendly staff. First question i asked " should I really be driving on this pier?" Very cold inside. In fact, I think everywhere in Astoria is required to be about 30 degrees

Meh...the food is really so so.  The beer is great, the atmosphere nice, but it's tough to find something truly worth raving about, or paying the prices on the menu.  I have eaten here several times, and the food ranges from really awful (heavy, heavy grease dripping off of fried fish) to so-so.
I do hope it improves, food-wise, as I love everything about the place, including the historic Hanthorn Cannery it is located in.

Great brewpub in a perfect setting on the pier.  Many varieties of Rogue beverages and very good pub food selection.

This place is amazing!!!  We had no idea how cool it was until we drove up on the peir and went in.  Super friendly people working there and the view is about as good as it gets.  They start off by giving you a free "sample taster of the day" of beer, can't go wrong with that.  They have a huge selection, something for everyone.  We ate there also and the food was great!!!  We ended up going back for our second day and would probably have gone back for a 3rd if we were in Astoria another day.  It was raining when we where there which we loved, and I can't think of a better place to hang out on a cozy, rainy day.

I love this place. The food is good but the beer is better. Its located at the end of a pier, so you're surrounded by water and you can hear the seals barking nearby. Its open seating, so after my sister and I grabbed a table near the window, the waitress brought a sample of some of the new IPA they were brewing.

We started with some steamer clams, which were tasty and I had the Chipotle Stout, which was served in a margarita glass and had a nice spicy finish. My sister got the pumpkin ale, which had a slight pumpkin taste but not overpowering. I ordered the kobe cheeseburger, which was large but a basic cheeseburger. My sister got the smoked salmon melt, which was loaded with salmon, cheese and chives. Amazing. We joined the Rouge Nation (which is free) and upgraded our lunches to a "Hoppy Meal" which came with a pint for an extra $2 and a cool bracelet. Rocking.

Fair is fair and my first review was less than positive.  As it turns out that day was not representative of the Astoria operation.  I've returned three times since then.  Each experience has been a good one.  While that first time back the place was cold, the service uneven and the food marginal that hasn't been the experience since then.  I really feel welcome.  It's my neighborhood pub now.  Today I had the award winning Hazelnut Brown beer and it is really good.  The single malt whiskey tastes like a 12 year old sherry cask aged beauty.  I tried the Ruben and it was absolutely perfect. I enjoyed reading the Rogue Nation newspaper at the bar and the place was comfortable the staff did very well during a busy lunch.  I'm a fan.

    Great imaginative food and drink.
The head bartender/manager took us under his wing with lots of suggestions, descriptions and samplings and hit the jackpot just from chatting with us.
He knows his beers, food and the ROGUE concept.  Our favorite? The double chocolate porter, which we NEVER would have ordered on our own.
    You'll enjoy their Halloween decorations.

We just kind of stumbled across this place as we were taking pictures of sea lions on the next dock over. Its such a cute place to have lunch on a coastal road trip, right out on the water. (by the way there is also a coffee shop hidden on the dock with a great view).

We were welcomed with a beer tasting of some really tasty beer.  While I've seen other reviews mention that the service was "laid back", I found our server on top of it and friendly with suggestions.

I couldn't decide what to get so we got a bunch of stuff.  While I was in the mood for seafood, the menu is packed with Kobe so I had a cup of the Kobe chili- yummy yummy and chopped full of meat. I also had the salmon sandwich- pink and fresh and just want I was hoping for.  My dining companion had the salmon melt which was not quite as good as my sandwich, but cheddar shouldn't be melted over salmon in my opinion.

The beer was good, highly recommend the chipotle beer.

After a long, long walk along the Columbia river in Astoria, we finally got to Pier 39, which houses the Rogue Ale Public House.  I was finally able to quench my thirst!!  Not the first one I've enjoyed, this one was typical, with their great selection of beers and pub food to go along.  The day we were there, they were having a "garage sale", so there were some great values to be had!!

Great place to have a few great beers and some good food.

I got the Kobe style Bacon Cheeseburger, and although it was a bit overcooked (closer to medium than medium rare), I couldn't complain. It was still delicious. They have a large menu though, so if burgers aren't your thing, there's plenty to choose from.

And plenty of beers for everyone! I had the Yellow Snow IPA, the Honey Orange Wheat, and washed it down with an Oatmeal Stout. All were great.

I came hungry, left full and slightly buzzed. All in all, a great place to go.

I read the reviews, but the birthday boy chose the restaurant.  All I could do was smile and go along.

Knowing from the reviews that the service is laid back helped us out.  We found a table inside and hung out until a table opened up on the deck.  We relocated on our own with no problem.  Brought our silverware and beers along with us. Found the self-serve water.  The weather was glorious that evening.

The service was really very good.  Our servers were helpful and kept the beer flowing.  Our server on the deck felt obligated to tell us a couple of times that our food would be coming soon.  It was clear he knew it was taking forever, but was powerless to help.

My issues with this restaurant can be tied to the kitchen.

The menu looks great.  So many options that are appetizing. But, the Kobe this and Kobe that gets annoying.   However, they fall down on the execution.   I knew from previous reviewers that they tended to overcook the burgers.  The person in our group that ordered a burger asked for medium rare so it would be cooked to medium.  It worked., so he was happy with his meal.  The rest of the food was ok, but nothing like one would imagine from reading the menu.  Part of the problem is that someone seems to have written the menu descriptions, but never went back and actually ate the food.  I see a huge disconnect between the menu and reality.  They need to scale back their options and focus on executing a few things really well.

Fortunately, the beer is very good.  That, along with the weather, saved the evening.

    I love Rogue.
I go quite frequently to other locations and enjoy the atmosphere, service, and sometimes a bite to eat.
A server named MAC served us, and was warm, patient, attentive.  We sat outside, and although windy as ****, it was really made quite inviting by his service.
We shared a big bottle of Rogue and ordered a 16" pizza and seafood pasta to go.
There was really no way for Mac to know that there was also a 16" long disgusting dirty blonde alcohol-hair-spray coated hair tucked neatly inside our seafood pasta order.  Really, there was no way.  And, of course, we were exhausted and were not about to drive back to Rogue in order to show anyone how I almost gagged to death on it.  Of course.
I suppose Mac's service was the only decent thing about this excursion to Rogue, if you could call it decent.  The pizza was dry and tasteless.  For $65 (with $10 tip for Mac) for a tasteless garden pie, hairy pasta, and (thankfully) delicious beer, I would be forced to give this Rogue only one star.
Really there are no excuses for this.  You are preparing/serving food.  You have long hair.  Wear a f****** hair net.
    It's a no-brainer.
And Mac did not have long hair, so please, congratulate him on a job well done for being the only thing even slightly redeeming on this chilly trip.

I've been here a couple of times.  I've only had one waitress that was good.  The rest of the people that work there are horrible servers.  I sat there watching my food sit there and wait to be delivered to my table for 5-10 mins.  When we got the food it was cold.  When I complained management and Rogue as a corporation didn't do anything.  The only thing that they are good for is the beer.  Food is nothing special and the service is not great.

Unfortunately, the Kurobuta Ham Sandwich was disappointingly mediocre. Everything else we had was great though!

I had breakfast this morning at the rogue and it was excellent! The best breakfast in town for the price. They are now open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays for breakfast 7am to 11am. We have a family of 5 a everyone ate for under $35. The food tasted great and service was the best. Those guys are doing it right out there at the Rogue in Astoria :)

My husband and I are huge fans of Rogue beer so were super excited to see their public house. We have visited their place in Newport and had a great time. This was terrible today in Astoria. We sat at the table for 15 minutes until my husband got sick of waiting for them to wipe down our table and did it himself as we'd watched someone else near us do. One waiter stopped and watched us.  Then my husband grabbed us menus. 5 minutes after that a server stopped and mumbled something about how she was going to do that.  After another 10 minutes, we walked out. She had already stopped at another table near us three time and had not even bothered to take our beer order.  Sad. Maybe we should have just walked behind the bar and got our own beer.

With only 5 days notice, we booked the meeting space at Rogue for an event we were having in Astoria. A few days later I received a confirmation call. Not only were they accommodating to our rowdy group riding in on noisy 2 stroke motorscooters, they had free beer samples waiting for us when we arrived. The service was just above and beyond anything I was expecting. The two waiters who helped us took our orders quick and the cook was even faster. I think I only had to wait 10 minutes for my food to arrive. With a group of 40 people I was surprised they were OK with us paying separately. In fact,  I don't think there is anything we could have done to annoy these guys. They were just that good!

The brewery itself in located in an old Bumble Bee Cannery and you get to drive across a wooden dock on to the pier. The food hit the spot and they have a beer for everybody.

    Thanks, Rogue! High five!

This place is freaking phenomenal... end of story. Not only do you get to drive out on a cool sketchy pier to get there, but once you do, you are rewarded by amazingness at every turn. OK, we all know their beer is awesome [if you don't, then sad for you and get drinking it]. The atmosphere is cozy, unique, and awesome. The service is ridiculously awesome... we seriously had more than one server taking care of us, best service I might have ever had. The food is GREAT, big portions, and reasonably priced.

Since there are so many other reviews, I have to add my one particular HELL YEAH! This place is awesomely dog friendly.... not only is there outdoor seating so your mutt can join you, and water bowls so they can drink with you [ hardeehar] but they even have a dog menu!! I love that it is not only just meat, etc, that you'd find on the actual menu.... but they also sell bully sticks and Greenies to appease your four legged. My dog was particularly excited, and was happy to lie right in the [very sweet and accommodating] waitress's path gnawing away on her bully stick. I mean, if I'm going to indulge it is only fair that she can too right?

LOVE this place... and will definitely return. Unique, fun and romantic [especially at night I bet, as they have pretty lights outside].... and dog friendly... a fabulous WIN all around!

After my visit on June 17th I've decided to return my customer card because I won't be returning. There were more children than adults, all running around without supervision. I thought I was going to a brewery not romper room.  The beer was warm, the service was terrible. I guess it's an inconvenience to the surly waitstaff to have to wait on you.  Prices are ridiculous, especially for the amount of food you are served. All around awful experience.

I really want to like this "public house" but after many tries over the past few years it has consistently left me disappointed.

The ales they serve are excellent and I like that they serve local breweries for their guest taps.  Their ale prices are bananas at 5.5-6.5$ they are at least 1$ higher then any other establishment in Astoria.

The refurbished cannery is cool at first glance but the ambiance still leaves a little to be desired.  I can't put into words what it is but it feels cold and relatively unwelcoming.

I can only think on one experience had were the service was above average and can think of many that were terrible.

The menu is extensive (and relatively expensive) and looks great but I can't recall anything memorable.

Basically it is a cool concept that lures tourists in but you would be hard pressed to find a local dining there.

I ignored the fact that this place got some sketchy reviews. DON'T.  The location is cool, and could make this place a real hot spot. I am pretty easy to please and usually give places the benefit of the doubt if things are borderline.  Not even close.  My 'Kobe Beef' philly cheesesteak sandwich was barely mediocre even for a brewhouse/pub.  The meat was grey like they microwaved it, and tough.  Service was poor, considering there were only about 10 people in there when we went.  Ordered chowder with my sandwich and it never came.  Wait staff made you feel like you were more of an inconvenience than a welcome patron.  And got a beer sampler, but it almost room temperature beer.  So if you like your food hot and beer cold. pass on this.  Try the Wet Dog brew house down the road. Not the worst ever but not worth the time or money.

Dear Rogue Brewery; There is no such thing as Kobe Beef in the United States. Sincerely, Me.

So, out of curiosity, just where is your beef coming from since it can't from Japan (the only place you can get true Kobe beef)?  Anyway, ordered my burger with some pink (medium) and got it grey all the way through. What a shameful thing to do if it were truly authentic Kobe beef. It's wrong anyway but I went ahead and ate it. Like just about every place that serves a burger, there didn't seem to be any seasoning to the meat itself.

The beer is good and plentiful (duh).

I had to drive 5 mph over a sketchy wooden pier to get to Rogue, but it was totally worth it.

For $6, you can get a flight of four beers.  I got to try the Dead Guy, Chipotle Ale, Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout, and the Mocha Porter.  They also offer a sample of the day which happened to be Mom's Hefeweizen.

I highly recommend their Irish Nachos -- deep fried potato coins, horseradish, corned beef, and cheese.  It's a good greasy pair to the beer sampling you will be doing.   I've recommended this dish to a friend and then I had to convince them it was not really from Ireland.

Oh Rogue, how I love thee so.

This was my first experience with the Astoria public house, I love that they are actually on the pier.  As an aside, for those of you who have never driven on wood slats suspended above water before (as apparently the people in the "smart car" ahead of me had not), there is no need to lean out your drivers window looking at wood below you.  Not only will you drive about 1/2 MPH, you will also almost take out the oncoming traffic. At least they went to the SCUBA store so I didn't have to educate them how we drive in America.

Back to the pub, I posted up at the bar and had a taster of the Dirtoir within 20 seconds, which I was totally in need of after dealing with the not-so-smart car. I am a bit of a Rogue vetran, usually the Newport brewery, so I order the standby Dead Guy ale (an old college favorite) Kobe blue balls and fish and chips.  The food was out in about 10 mins and everything was great as always.

I noticed a row of pink bottles next to the bar and asked about it.  It was the Voodoo Donut Maple Bacon Ale.  I bought 6, because of course I was going to spread the word of this around.  If you haven't tried a bacon beer before, let me warn you, it tastes like bacon.

Like usual, another great Rogue experience.  I love me some Dead Guy, too bad it isn't on draft in more Seattle bars.

The food is not great (meh, maybe 3.5 stars).

But damn is this a cool place. Located right on the dock on the bay, you feel like such an Oregonian as you watch the sea lions swim by and you eat your clam chowder.

The service is fantastic, too- I thought our waitress was super friendly and attentive, and made sure our group had a good time.

Tip- bundle up and bring a coat! Even though we went on a very sunny day, we were freezing while sitting outside. It was still a great experience though!

Like walking into a theme restaurant.  Sort of like the Hard Rock but even worse food and service.

You walk in, get ignored.  Peruse T shirts and numerous cases on sale.  Still get ignored.  Finally (after 10 minutes) figure it's every man for himself and grab menus and seat yourself.

We were there during Memorial Weekend, it wasn't busy in the least.  Once the server caught on that our party of 6 was starving and had some out-of-staters that were keen on tasting some beer we finally got some service.

That's where the extra star comes in.  I got some super green cider and all the boys (I travel with a boy posse, it's just how I roll) dug their beer.

But oh, sweet baby jesus, the food was awful.  I ordered a grilled chicken wrap.  That chicken had never been licked by a grill's flame, it was poached - or more likely defrosted from some food service bag.  Other entrees ordered included a mediocre reuben (with Ruffles - wtf are we in a grade school cafeteria here?), a spinach salad so positively drowning in dressing I wanted to float a life ring in it, icky crab melt, semi-decent quinoa salad, and meh fish and chips.

The service went from bad to worse.  You now the kind where you have to beg for your check?  Then beg them to take the card?  We even did the decent thing and gave one person cash so there was only one card to run.  And still....20 minutes from drop off of check to delivery of statement.  Let me reiterate - not busy at all.

Oh, and I went to use the ladies room during the check debacle.  Server managed to not bring the check but bus my half-finished cider.  Men at the table weren't observant enough to stop her.  But this isn't a review of men, now is it?

In all likelihood, the salty sea air had increased my appetite, but it didn't dull my taste buds!  I thoroughly enjoyed my gardenburger, fries and rootbeer float from Rogue's Public House.  The seasoning on the burger made me forget there was no meat ... the tomato, lettuce and pickles were fresh and crispy ... the bun was lightly grilled.  The fries ... mmmm.  And that rootbeer float could only have been improved if they used Tillamook ice cream.

The location and view are superb, too.  It's on Pier 39, so you actually walk or drive across the wooden dock to get to the restaurant.  Then, the open windows ... no screens or glass ... allow for fresh air and a picturesque view of the Columbia River, disturbed only occasionally by squawking seagulls.

Then why did I give only four stars, you ask?  Because in comparison to all else, the service left something to be desired.  The waitress was friendly enough, but the wait for food was much longer than I'd expect compared to the number of other diners.  And the time it took to get the bill once we'd finished?  Longer than it took us to eat, and we took our time to savor the meal.

Oh well ... if I make it to Astoria again anytime soon, I think I'll put up with the wait.

Not only does Rogue brew some of the best beer around, but their pub in Astoria also has great food. The Reuben was wonderful, not greasy at all. The corned beef was to die for. Linda Richman to die for.
    Now I'm getting all verklempt.
I'll give you a topic to discuss. Pubs are neither houses nor public.  Talk amongst yourselves.
