It was really, really hot... so we probably should have tried sitting outside. It was just too hot to try and enjoy your drink and food. We ended up going inside and the owner was wonderful in letting us move. The food was really good, but it was the atmosphere that was just OK for me. I found the crowd to be a lot older than what I was expecting-- mullets were back in season. Some of the crowds of people were just too much-- like placing their drinks down on our table while encroaching on our space. I'd like to try this place again as it's really beautiful and has the potential for being a really great night out.
Review Source:I had heard some good things about Rok so I wanted to check it out with a group of friends. I had to give Rok only 1 star because of the poor food quality and mediocre service. I ordered fried calamari and stuffed shells which were both not very good and very small servings sizes. For dinner we ordered a variety of pizza, burgers, entrees and everyone said their food was just ok or poor. Will not be returning.
Review Source:First impression of the Rok Bar is that it is very loud. But not saying it's bad, just be prepared to yell into the ears of your fellow friends if you want talk them. The atmosphere is very Rock and Roll. Indeed, my party was sitting in a semi private room that is Elvis themed to the 9's. They even have a projector showing vintage Elvis performances during his prime.
I had some of the appetizers and they were pretty good. They had typical chicken wings and they had something pretty good which was the Wasabi Chips. It had a tiny kick of wasabi which made it delish.
Service was decent in that it was a busy night. All in all I would go back if I want to enjoy more of the atmosphere which is definitely unique.
The Rok Bar n Grill was designed for those who love loud music, but the food was quite good.  Our quinoa and arugula salad with sun-dried tomatoes was different and delicious. We then enjoyed a tasty arugula and prosciutto pizza.  The decor is clearly well thought-out and very intriguing especially the tables which are laminated with pictures  of rock 'n roll singers. Our table displayed Elvis ( not sure if each table was different).  A great place for those who want to "rock!"
Review Source:So I went to Rok bar last night. I liked it and would definitely go back again.
The decor was rock and roll inspired. I felt like I wasn't in East Greenwich.
The place was full but there was no wait. The service was good. Very attentive and prompt.
The menu was different. My friend and I started with the Mediterraneo plate- hummus, tahini, and baba ganoush. That was very good. Then I had a wrap with scallops and some sort of slaw. It was really tasty! Never see that on a menu. My friend got a beef and pepper thing over rice.
They had a nice selection of pizzas and burgers. not too many salads, although the couple they did sound tasty. They menu was different and had some creative things on it which was a nice change of pace from the same ole bar and grill type places.
The manager said there will be live music coming soon which will also be something fun and new to check out in EG. Also has some good TVs so might be a fun place to watch games.
Well, this was definitely not "our kind of place," but that's okay - it's for much younger people than we are, Â although the music played was my generation's music and most of the rock star photographs which were everywhere (and nicely so) in this place were from my generation. The old Post Office (and former Post Office Cafe), were nicely decorated with a Hard Rock Cafe vibe - that turned out really nicely. Â The place was loud, as we figured it would be - and not a problem - we expected that. Â The fact that it's a young people's place has nothing to do with this review.
It was our first time at Rok , a rock and roll cafe which just opened three weeks ago in our 'hood.  Since we do live close by we  wanted to see if we could get a really good hamburger and fries (we are simple folks - don't really ask for a lot!). We were seated quickly and a lovely waitress took our drink order, brought the drinks and then took our dinner order (again, very simple - hamburger and fries, and a glass of wine and martini.)
The food, brought to us by a different server, didn't take too long but when it arrived we still had no napkins, knives or forks. We asked for these, (and could not begin to eat til we had them) and also asked if we might get some mayo and mustard. The waiter (not the waitress who initially waited on us) came back in almost 15 minutes, while our food got cold - with everything we had asked for. He said he had to look "all over the place" to find the things we had asked for - not sure why mustard and mayo and the silverware which should have been there to begin with would take so long. But never mind that. The restaurant pours a generous glass of wine and the pinot grigio was very good and fairly priced. Also, the burger was cooked just as we liked them - exactly as we ordered them, and delicious. The roll, too, was excellent - held up to the burger well and did not get soggy. Â But the burger was accompanied by one limp slice of wilted lettuce and three tiny slices of what might have been a large cherry tomato - almost white - well, maybe pink - not in any way resembling or tasting like a tomato. Â Really? Really? Â Is this the best you can do? Â Â If you can't provide a decent tomato, use a roasted red pepper instead. Â Or just forget the tomato. Â The fries were white and some not even cooked all the way through. It was obvious the fries came out of the freezer. They were not fresh potatoes, hand cut, which fries must be in order to taste really good. If they are frozen to begin with, then fry them til they're golden brown - that's a good second choice, if you MUST go with frozen fries.
Being unsatisfied with the fries and astounded at the tomato and lettuce garnish,  we felt we needed dessert so we shared a chocolate cake dessert called So Joe or something like that. It was supposed to be chocolate cake with added espresso, served in a mug with whipped cream. I tasted no espresso whatsoever. This was a clear  mug in which a piece of the driest chocolate cake in the world was just shoved into the mug and topped with a mini squirt of whipped cream. It was SO dry, we poured a little of our coffee over the top.
So, we weren't really happy with our first meal at Rok, and this is too bad. We often just love to go out for a burger and fries and a drink, and we could have come here often since we live almost around the corner. But because of poor service, some good food, but some not so good - and what was not good was so elementary --- it could so easily have been good with little or no extra effort, that I don't think we'll be back. I hope this is just an initial shake down period where the staff and perhaps the kitchen does not have its act together.
But I would have to say that to pay full price, including a good tip, for food, some of which was sub-par, is not right. There are tons of places to dine along Main Street in EG, and Rok could have filled a much needed slot on the street as a place to get a great burger, sandwich, salad, etc. (By the way, the owner REALLY needs to get more salads on the menu - the few there didn't provide much of a choice and women REALLY like to order salads, especially in a burger/ribs/and chili kind of restaurant) Â We are always on a diet you know! Â :-) Â I sincerely hope Rok gets its act together so that MAYBE if we do decide to give it one more try, and go back in six months, I can write a better review.
I was on Main St with some friends on the first night Rok Bar was open so we decided to go in and try it out. The atmosphere and decor are pretty cool inside. They did an awesome job of blending the features of the old post office with all of the Rock & Roll themed memorabilia and art work. There are a mixture of booths, normal and long tables, and just couches to sit on. There is a giant projection screen in the middle playing music videos while the songs are playing. They were playing club style rock music but the great thing was it wasn't deafening so you could still hold a conversation with people.
The drinks were not super expensive (I bought a draft beer and 2 mixed drinks and my tab came up to $18). I didn't try the food so I cannot give any feedback about it. Rok Bar gave me a very positive first impression. If you are in the area give it a shot, it is a different experience than many of the other places on Main St. Next time I go, I will be sure to update my review to include the food.
