I can barely express how incredible this place is.
It's a tiny hole in the wall with cheap tables and cheap chairs and even cheaper decorations -- don't expect anything anything other than a dive.
But the food! Oh, the glorious food! And the cheaper than believable prices!
Get authentic tacos, burritos, and enchiladas, for $1, $2. and $3 plus change. Fresh chips and salsa. Great rice and beans. Soft and fresh tortillas and shells. Everything is fresh and delicious.
Now the best part, besides the food, are the prices. I love a bargain; I'm a frugal bastard. I've taken three people along with me for dinner and picked up the tab for the four of us -- a measly $12!!!!!!
You can easily eat there for less than $4 per person, and you will be satisfied. The key here is to order from the a la carte menu, not the combination platters. Each person can order a couple of tacos, burritos, or enchiladas, and then get an order of rice and beans for the table to share -- it's plenty, believe me.
Every single time I am in Homestead, I stop at Rosita's. I which I still live a stone's throw away.
The food was really good, but the atmosphere was kind of blah. Also I ordered queso for my chips expecting a liquid type sauce every other Mexican restaurant has and instead got a stringy cheese that tasted ok but wasn't very easy to eat. I ordered chicken fajitas and what I got was tasty but it did not come with the usual extras such as sour cream and guacamole. The mix of Spanish and English in the menu seemed pretty random and actually made it harder to figure out. In an area with so many Mexican places I probably wouldn't go here again.
Review Source:The quesadillas there are really just fried empanadas with terrible quality meat. Very greasy. And poor customer service. When I asked for something else because I was expecting the typical Mexican quesadilla and did not want a fried meal I was told by the waitress that empanadas and quesadillas are the same thing. I have NEVER been to a Mexican restaurant before that made that claim.
Review Source:NO! No! No No nooooo! Â For those who recommended this place, you need to venture out more and experience some good quality food for some comparison. Â If tasteless steak tacos dripping with grease is authentic Mexican then yes, Rosita's is very authentic. The chips tasted like oil too. It was cheap, yes. Service was lame. Was it a language barrier? Â We speak English and Spanish fluently, but still got a blank look when we asked any questions. Overall presentation was unappetizing. Won't be returning.
Review Source:This is the BEST Mexican food I have ever had. I have never written a review on here but am down in the Keys and stopped in Homestead for a night. We were looking for a good place to grab some food and Rosita's food was tremendous! I highly recommend the chimichangas - they are light and fluffy with so much flavor. This is fast, simple, flavorful Mexican food that will please any pallet.
Review Source:I went to this restaurant becuse my friends and I really wanted to eat authentic Mexican food. What a mistake that was...
salsa and chips were good. other than that the food tasted old and over heated.
The service was ok. Â
The place did not look too clean, and you can see dead bugs on the border of the walls.
worst of all, we were charged twice!!!! the exact same amount. I had to call my bank and they had to start and ivestigation etc.
Don't get a headache or a stomach ache. Avoid going to this restaurant..
This little hole in the wall has the best Mexican food in all of Miami and I'm from California, so I know what I'm talking about. The guacamole is really yummy and is made from Hass avocados. My mom loves the chile rellenos. I love the taquitos and sopes. It's not much on ambiance but it's great food.
Review Source:This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Homestead hands down. There are no gimmicks involved with their food just straight up awesome fresh authentic Mexican cuisine. I'm a fan of Tex Mex don't get me wrong, but sometimes I want the real deal and when I do I come to Rosita's. Their Sopes with Chorizo and potatoes are to die for. The food is also very affordable. They are just a tad bit more expensive than Taco Bell and quality wise blows away the famous chain. I also love that you can order several items A la carte like burritos, chimichangas, empenadas, etc...and they even chop the lettuce and tomatoes to order which is great! Â if you live nearby, I highly recommend stopping by.
Review Source:This is my first review on yelp. Rosita's is hands-down the best Mexican in Miami-Dade! The prices are extremely reasonable, and while the decor is nothing special at all (if even existent), the food more than makes up for it! Living in South Miami and traveling to Homestead very frequently, I go to Rosita's at least once a week for a good, fast, inexpensive lunch. My kids love it as well. They have combination meals, as well as a la carte menu. Their pico de gallo is made to order, and amazing.
Try the chicken tostadas, you will not be disappointed :-)
This is one of those hidden hole in the wall Mexican joints with it's unassuming decor. We go here for the food and price! It's so authentic that I always order a coke in a bottle like in Mexico, lol. Don't worry, you can drink the water! It's a regular on our list for good authentic Mexican. Our favorite is the tacos al carbon! Homemade food at its best. Even tried the menudo & it was awesome! If you like authentic good Mexican food on the cheap, you have to try Rositas!
Review Source:I think we came in before they were about 30 min to close and the workers (or was it a friend of the workers? She was at the bar and was staring us down) looked PISSED. Sorry! Â We decided just to take the food to go b/c this staring made me quite uncomfortable. Â The lady who helped us was nice though. Â We were craving seafood so ordered this seafood rice special (forgot the name) and it was EXTREMELY DELICIOUS! Â It literally blew my taste-buds away.. it was soooo good. Â It was fresh, tasty and just everything we wanted. Â The food is rated 4*... docked to 3, just because it was pretty awkward when we walked in.
Review Source:Rosita's is nothing special. It's your typical hole-in-the-wall Mexican "restaurant". I have eaten at Rosita's about 3 times just because my father-in-law likes the low prices; every time I went there was always something wrong, I first ordered the chicken chimichanga...and it was HORRIBLE! I ordered the chicken tostadas twice, and both times  there were bones in it. There are broken light fixtures, and the place just looks down right filthy.
We now go to Casita Tejas, which serves the best chimichangas. Although there is a one to two dollar difference, the food and the atmosphere are far superior. I can actually call Casita Tejas a restaurant! If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and just eat at Casita Tejas.:)
This very old building hides an authentic Mexican gem inside.... the food here is very good and fresh - full of flavor and well seasoned.
The outdated decor and small, sometimes unkempt restroom leaves a lot to be desired, but overall it has always been clean and welcoming when I've been here - and I've been coming to this place for years. The food is always consistently good, plates are huge and ridiculously cheap. The staff is sometimes aloof and not into explaining what all the different things are to the unsuspecting tourist that ends up in here... but the food makes up for all that. Truly homemade, authentic Mexican food.
My personal favorite is the tacos al carbon, served on their house made corn tortillas and the tamales are awesome. The Enchiladas in green sauce are out of this world,- not too spicy but very flavorful, and the beans and rice that come on your plate are actually sometimes the best part of the entree.
I've never had a bad meal here, I truly recommend this spot.
We love a good Mexican joint. We read the reviews and said if we get a chance, gotta try Rosita's. I use guacamole as a pretty reliable barometer of how good the place and the rest of the food is. We had a hard time finishing the guac. It had lots of lime taste and frankly tasted as if it were a  frozen mix, not freshly mashed guac. The beans were very good. The rice-blah, but even top notch tasty Mexican joints usually have dissapointing orange colored rice, which is why sometimes we go "double beans" and skip the rice. I got chicken tacos. No lettuce or tomatoes in the tacos, nor did I detect any cheese. I'm good without cheese. Instead, there were tomatoes and lettuce in very large chunks, but out on the plate, not in the tacos. Better than nothing, I guess. I have had tacos with just meat mixtures before, and they can be OK, but always seem a little lacking. Our  waitress was very dour, but she brought everything out OK. Prices were very reasonable, but without good guacamole, I wouldn't recommend unless you don't like guac.
Review Source:Beef Chimichanga FTW!!
This is a small hole in the wall type Resturant.
This place is hands down the best Mexican food in Homestead. Don't be fooled by the place where u need to bring ur own booze. This place is waaaay more authentic.
I highly recommend the green enchiladas or the beef chimichangas.
Look. There is a reason this is my first review on Yelp. That is because the food here is as good as it gets for Mexican in Miami-Dade. Having tried nearly two dozen other Mexican restaurants in the county (yes, there are that many, believe me), I have always found them wanting compared to Rosita's. I drive 15 miles one way to get here, and am never disappointed. Outstanding salsa, guacamole and entrees.
My personal favorite are the chicken enchilada's in green sauce. Can't go wrong!
After an epic pub crawl and a day of helping animals in the hot sun, we were desperate for some nourishment. Since we happened to be in Homestead, I knew we had to take advantage of our location and indulge in some Mexican deliciousness, a nearly impossible feat in Miami.
A friend who lives nearby recommended Rosita's, and we rolled in to this little hole in the wall, stomachs rumbling. The menu was extensive, although there weren't a lot of vegetarian options ... no surprise there.
I asked if they could do fajitas with just vegetables, and they said no ... not sure how that's possible, but whatever. I'm betting they don't get a lot of veggie requests.
We both went with combos - burrito, quesadilla, sopa (meat free for me), and chips/guac.
I have to say, everything was OUTSTANDING. That guacamole was flavorful and fresh, and hit my rumbling tummy in just the right spot. The quesadilla was more like an empanada, as Gus mentioned, but it was FABULOUS, with just a hint of sweetness and lots of melty cheese. The bean and cheese burrito was rich and delicious.
I only wish they could deliver to the Grove ....
Huevos rancheros were not missing a mariachi! they were yummy! the place is not "pretty" dont expect to sit on a chair that doesnt make noise. For food is a must, ambiance...well not so much, but wanna try something "different" this is it. Leave your sombreros at home and bring an empty belly cause you will need it. YUM-Breakfast.
Review Source:This is not your mother's Mexican restaurant, unless your mother is Mexican. This place is in fact a must go dive. It put's to shame El Toro Taco, about a mile away. and it crushes the Denny's of so called Mexican food "Chipolte" and "Lime Fresh Grill", truly making these culinary eating establishment vomitoriums to even the common ilk.
Rosita's is true Mexican, lovely, delicious Mexican, the beauty is in the food not the building. The taco's are little corn patties laced with smokey pork, and Mexican chilies. There salsa isn't out of a jar, it was made at the hands of the employee's there, under the watchful eye Maria (actually I didn't meet the owner, but I just named her).
The Guacamole was chunky, creamy and mouth watering, with everything I ate I wasn't overcome by spices, but I knew they were there, So with the Taco's El Pastor, Guacamole, and a Diet Coke it set me back $8.99. You'll pay more in gas driving down there.
Good and authentic Mexican restaurant in Florida city. No frills, but good service and god prices to match.
Don't come looking for fancy or ambiance, but you will definitely be pleased with simply good authentic Mexican food.
We had Quesadillas which are a bit different in that they look and feel more like cheese empanadas but they are quite good. The Torta milanesa is as good as it gets and the Chilaquiles are flavorful and delicious. Most dishes come with beans and rice and maybe a small salad.
Definitely go for the guacamole and be brave, add the jalapeno peppers.
All this with a dos equis beer ! Good stuff.
Triple bonus !!! it is at the end of the Busway at right at the entrance to the South Dade bike trail, so you can ride you bike there all the way from Miami! It doesn't get any better than this.
I so very much enjoy true Mexican. Â In our area we don't have much real Mexican food, places like "Lime Fresh" are only too predominant and completely leave me disheartened. Â
On occasion we can make it out to get some of the real thing. Â This trip to Homestead we decided to try a new place and found Rosita's through Yelp. Â
The decor on the inside and out reminded me so much of the little Mom and Pop Mexican places in Chicago, and the food did as well. Â It was hearty honest to goodness delicious home made Mexican. Â Its small, quaint and well worth the visit.
I had Chilaquiles with Chicken, and I have to say it was outstanding. Â I usually don't eat the re-fried beans and rice because they usually taste generic but here they were the real deal.
They are very nice in this restaurant and work very hard to make you happy. Â I found it to be dirty but aside from that, yes I can get past that, the food was very mediocre. Â We are Mexican food experts after 6 years in ATX. Â This place would have been pushed out of Austin years ago. Â HOWEVER, you do not have a lot to choose from in this area, so compared to fast food or bad drive thru, this is a good healthy choice. Â We ordered the guacamole and the chips. Â The pico was fresh as the carne for the meat tacos. Â It just lacked punch all the way around. Â Great if you are in the area but no need to make a special trip out there.
Review Source:Just off the main drag as you come into Homestead you will find Rosita's. Â Program this place into your GPS, your brain or what ever it takes. Â If you are a refugee from California this place will be right up your alley. Â We were coming back from the Keys and stopped here for lunch. Â I actually found it on Yelp as we were getting close and the reviews mentioning it reminded them of places in California convinced me we had to stop here for lunch. Â
It is a little dark inside and basic almost cafeteria style tables and chairs, but that little dish of picked peppers and carrots was there on the table staying me in the face and I had a good feeling this was going to be yummy. Â
It was a hard choice, but I hadn't had a good tamale in a long time, so I got the pork ones and the wife got the sopas, but I convinced her to get the chorizo and potato ones. Â Boy was that a smart move. Â The sopas were amazing! Â The potatoes were a little crispy and the chorizo was something special. Â I really hope they make it themselves because it tasted like someones grandmother made it. Â I'll be dreaming about that chorizo for long time. Â The tamales were good as well. Â The Masa was so tender and yummy and the pork filling at a nice flavor, but not very spicy. Â Did I mention that the lunch was very reasonable and the amount of food you get is a smoking deal?
Almost makes me want to go on a road trip to Homestead this weekend.
Rosita's is one of my standby Mexican places. Â The people working there are always nice and efficient and the food is always consistent. Â I especially like the Tacos al carbon. Â Prices are reasonable and the beer is always cold.
I have also been here a couple of times for breakfast. Â It is really good! Â Their juevos rancheros are as good as any I have ever had. Â It is a nice break from my normal routine of bacon and eggs.
Ok, let me start off by saying that I am a Mexican born and raised in Los Angeles, so I have very high standards for Mexican food. I have been incredibly dissapointed by the "Mexican" food in Miami, where I now live, so much so that I will not go to Mexican restaurants in the city anymore (and no, Lime is not Mexican!). So this weekend, I needed to make the trip down the Homestead to see if the hype was true. Needless to say, I was very hesitant and did not want to get my hopes up too high.
I have to say, this place was pretty good! Was it the best Mexican food I've ever had? No. Was it good? Absolutely! Especially considering the lack of Mexican food in South Florida.
I had a taco de barbacoa, a tamal de puerco, and a green enchilada de pollo. All three were delicious, next time I make it out there I might ask if I could just get an order of barbacoa, it was very flavorful.
The rice and beans were both good, I am pretty sure the beans were refried in manteca (lard), which was a huge bonus, because it doesn't get much more authentic than that.
In terms of ambience, I loved that they were playing La Raza, the Mexican station down here. Nothing like some banda, nortenas, mariachi, and cumbia to help the food go down.
I was really satisfied. It was definitely worth the one hour drive :)
I look forward to coming here any time I am down in that area. Â Say what you want about this place, it's a dive, and one helluva dive if you ask me. Â If you order the chicken chimichangas, you will not be disappointed. Â One order includes three deliciously fried chimis drenched in a pool of sauce and cheese and comes on a plate of beans and rice. Â Try this and I'd be surprised if you're not pleased.
Don't be expecting the most amazing food in the world, it's a dive. Â But. the prices are reasonable and it's a charming little place that reminds me of places I visited in the Yucatan.
I went here for lunch today with a friend and was very dissapointed. I had a chicken chimichanga and the chicken was very dry. The refried beans were runny and the rice had no flavor. It was all just plain, dull and not very good. My friend had an enchilada and she did not like the corn tortillas. I was very dissapointed since several people had told me that this was the best mexican food in this area. I probably won't go back. Nothing was horrible, it just was nothing that I said "I can't wait to have that again." It was also very difficult to comminicate, neither of us speak spanish and the one server did not speak any english. We used our few words that we knew, but were not able to ask questions, etc.
Review Source:Every so often, we get a yearning for both a long drive and good Mexican food. Â Off to Homestead we go! Â This time we went to Rosita's based on reviews that we read on Yelp from fellow visitors.
The first impression is underwhelming, a small building with a side entrance (plenty of free parking!). Â The interior is backwards, as the kitchen is in the front of the building facing the street, and you have to walk past it to the dining room. Â There is no real charm in the sparsely decorated place. Â I came with four other people, so they had to turn on the lights in the back room where the larger tables are (now THAT'S kinda charming in its own way).
The food was great. Â I had chicken in mole sauce, which came with rice, beans, a side salad and some really nice, soft, warm tortillas. Â Everyone else had one combo meal or another, but everyone liked their food. Â It was fresh, it was tasty and it was plentiful enough.
The service was fine, the food came quickly, but we would have ordered dessert if the waitress bothered to come back to our table when we were finished. Â We just got up, went to the cash register and payed our bill after about 15 minutes of waiting. Â Minor complaint.
This little place is hereby recommended for its fresh, tasty and plentiful Mexican food. Â Just don't go with expectations of a festive Mexican restaurant experience.
I'm sorry, no. Â After hearing all about the allegedly amazing Mexican food in Homestead, we took Yelp's recommendation and stopped here on a recent trip. Â The food was adequate. Â Tacos al carbon were competently prepared but not that flavorful, ditto the enchiladas verde. Â The other fixings (rice, beans, etc.) were similarly underwhelming. Â Guacamole was large in quantity but low in avocado flavor-- I don't know whether they used lackluster avocados or stretched it with sour cream. Â And my horchata tasted like it had come from a powder (and *looked* as if that powder had been talcum).
The one bright point was the red salsa, which was zippy, spicy, and fresh. Â Otherwise, this is worse than the Mexican food I've had in DC, which I regard as a pretty low bar.
My wife and I were visiting Florida and heading out to see Alligators in the Everglades.  Being form California where Mexican food is available on every block and having been in Florida for about 10 days we were craving  Mexican food...Yelp to the rescue!  Thank you to the people who Yelped about Rosita's it was great.
Review Source:I've always heard that in order to find good Mexican food in Miami, you have to go down to Homestead. Â So on a recent trip down to the Keys, complete with a stop at the Everglades Alligator Farm, I decided to put this idea to the test. Â On the single stretch of road, from US-1 to SW 192nd Ave, there are no less that 4 Mexican restaurants. Â Why I chose Rosita's, I have no idea. Â But nevertheless, I'm glad I did.
The food was excellent! Â The chips and salsa were very yummy. Â I could taste the fresh cilantro in the salsa, which was slightly spicy - but very tasty. Â It was so hard to choose from all the amazing selections on the menu. Â I ended up opting for a combination platter with a taco, a chimichanga, and a tamale - all chicken, which comes with rice & beans, and a "side salad" (little more than chopped tomato & lettuce that you can use to put on your taco). Â Every single item was very good. Â It was all served piping hot, so I burned by mouth a couple times in my eagerness to chow down on the delicious Mexican food. Â But it was worth it. Â Unfortunately, I had eaten so much of the chips and salsa, that I was stuffed half-way into my meal.
As I've said time & again, I'm not anything close to a Mexican food connoiseur. Â But that caveat aside, this was some very good Mexican. Â I just wish I didn't have to drive an hour south to get it!
